ICloud and selective downloads (iCloud for a Family 2!)
I haven't yet updated to iOS 5 because I don't know how to manage our account for a Family, and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Presently, we have a single iTunes account linked to my desktop Apple. On it are my wife and I and 2 children. We all download what we want (kid's ipads are age restricted and they have to ask before buying anything! Our account is linked only to iTunes cards, not a credit card!) and I manually synch all devices with the desktop about once a week or so.
This is working fine, as you can choose what content goes onto each device when you sync.... we don't all want the same apps, books, music etc., obviously.
But... is that how it works for iCloud? I am worried that if something is downloaded on one device, it automatically appears on the others. That wouldn't work for us....I don't want what the kids download, and I don't want some of what I download on the kids devices.
I realise that one way around it is to have 4 separate accounts... but then I'd end up paying 4 times for anything that we do want to share ( a song, an app, etc.)
Have I misunderstood iCloud? Can i configure it as I do now? Or can I upgrade to iOS 5 and simply choose not to use iCloud? I'd try it out but won't be able to revert to iOS 4 if it goes wrong!

PS... I did post a similar topic a while ago, and got some help, but I've hopefully now clarified my issue.
I cloud is for Mail, contacts, calendars, ect. It reall has nothing to do with I tunes. In the settings, you can turn off syncing apps, music, and books, for each device. That will keep all apps, music, and books to syncing to each device. You will have to manually check what apps your want synced or not in iTunes.

No. The problem is that when you changed Apple IDs you did not update your Apple ID to reflect the change, so your phone is still associated with the old ID. You will need to un-associate it. The process is the same as what you would do if you sold the phone. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661

Platform is iMac OS X 10.8.5 and iPhoto 9.4.3, signed in to iCloud and selected Photo Stream. Got an invite via email to subscribe to a Photo Stream and when I click on Subscribe to this Photostream, it tells me that I need specs that I already have.

I was trying to get my personal computer contacts and calendar in outlook on my iphone and ipad. I was told to use icloud. I went to control panel and then icloud and selected my contacts and calendar. Now ALL MY DATA IS DELETED FROM OUTLOOK. Help!!
I was just on the line with Apple Tech support. First of all, I learned that when you link contacts to iCloud, it moves all your contacts to another/new address book...look for aother address books and you will see it. But I found the new address book dies weird things and changes the "Display Names" format. Evidently (per Apple support tech) there is no way to avoid this problem...so I just delinked the iCloud from my contacts. The contacts stayed in the iCloud address book...so I exported them to a CSV (comma separated value) file and saved it on my desktop and then imported that list into my original contacts folder. Now everything is back the way it was...being able to use my contact address book the way I did before. I was surprised that they never considered or realized this problem...but then the tech guy admitted that they really don't have A LOT of experience using Windows PC's.

osx lion: available space on my HD has increased significantly (doubled!) since the iCloud and recovery disc updates for Mac. I am guessing OSX Lion now recalculates what is 'available' as I have not deleted anything major. I have two MacBook Air's (1 core 2 duo and 1 i5), both with 256 drives. I am also running win 7 on Parallels 7. Any thoughts?
you can't necessarily download the Mountain Lion installer via the App Store since it came already installed on your computer.

To redownload the installer on a computer running OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion, press and hold the Option key while you click the Purchases tab. If the button to the right of the Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion item doesn't change to "Install" and allow you to download OS X, use Spotlight to search for "Install OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion" on your computer. -
How do I unlock mac? Someone hacked my account and I wiped my device from iCloud, and now I ask for a four digit code ignition Mac. How do they proceed in that way to unlock my Mac?
Settings>general>resets>erase all content and settings.
That will put it back to its out of the box state. Set it up with your own apple Id. -
Every time I right click on an image and select Download image Firefox crashes . I have reinstalled; uninstalled and deleted folders and then reinstalled; added no plugins; checked I can DL the same images in IE-works good.I use Win7 pro and it works in other profiles in Windows 7. I created a new profile in Windows and that worked for about 2 months and now that has gone the same way as my admin profile has done. I deleted the sqlite download file-still same prob..Please help. I use Firefox 13.0.1
That sounds very frustrating.
By the way, does it say "Download image" or "Save Image As"? Just checking whether you have an add-on downloader in the mix that might be relevant. If you do have an add-on, try using the built-in command.
Do you also crash if you save from here:
right-click page > View Page Info > Media tab > (select image) > Save As

Have you tried the new Reset feature in Firefox 13? This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your plugins will still be active, but could be disabled manually if you like.

If the new settings folder has the same problem, you can switch back if you like using Firefox's Profile Manager.

"Work in iCloud" and "Home in iCloud" Tabs...

I have a 4S that that has been working flawlessly with iCloud since I got it. Recently, I finally updated to 6.0.1, The same day I updated my 4S, my wife got a 4 that we also set up with the same iCloud account so we could share calendar and contacts. Since that day, whenever I open my Outlook 2007 calendar, I have 3 calendar tabs; "Calendar in iCloud", "Home in iCloud", and "Wrok in iCloud". Home and Work are new, and I can not figure where they came from, or what their purpose is. I DELETE both, and they just reappear when I close and reopn Outlook.
Can anybody shed some light on what these are and what they are for?

If this for folder the you have created yourself then you can consider to organize the bookmarks in sub folders that do not require scrolling.
I personally use code in userChrome.css to add scroll bars to make it easy to reach content like live feeds that require scrolling.

My iPhone 4S will charge on a laptop but not from a wall plug. I have tried different boxes and different USB cords from the wall but none work. These boxes and USB cords work for other family members with iPhones and a USB cord that works from the laptop won't work from 3 or 4 different wall boxes that work for others. I'm stumped :/
Update: It seems as though the phone will charge if I plug it in and then turn it off. It will not charge while the phone is on. Also iTunes will not recognize it, so I can't sync or anything. I read somewhere that it could be a fuse somewhere?? Or maybe the dock connector. Where is the best place to get this repaired?

I've been working with documents in Pages and recently downloaded Word for Mac. Upon opening Pages documents with Pages, the documents appear corrupt. Much of the font has been replaced with boxed little pictures - yet they are identified as times new roman. What do I do?
You got the new iphone????? I have same problem. I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was). Have you found a solution????? I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.

Which exact model iPad? It would almost certainly state system requirements on the packaging.

I think it wants to see a previous version in my pc because my serial is for an upgrade, but when it put in a serial# for version cs5 it still wont except. Do you think i have to install cs5 first (which is also an upgrade).. which will require that I put in version cs4 etc,.etc., etc.

What do I do when I'm half way through a movie on Apple TV. The movie then quits. We go back on to the movie home page and it says you have already rented this movie, please go to settings, then downloads and select downloads but we can't find downloads

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
