ICloud as Mail Server - Contacts

I have the iCloud client installed on my Windows PC and enabled on my iPhone 4 and iPad.  I am using Outlook 2007...no Exchange server...although I previously had an Exchange account. I have an iCloud account, a Gmail email account , and a Yahoo email account.  I want my Gmail to be my default email account. I would like to have only one master contact list. I suppose that needs to be the iCloud contact list ???  Currently each device seems to have a differnet contact list and many contacts are duplicated.  Where should I start?  How do I create one master contact list that will be pushed out to all devices?

Thank you for your prompt answer.  One more quick question, does ICloud have anything to do with IMAC’s mail?  Are they joined in any way.   My iCloud contacts are the same as my Address Book.

what is the iCloud incoming mail server setting?

imap.mail.me.com - but you shoudn't need to enter this manually. If you are having problems, sign out in System Preferences>iCloud, then sign back in again and enable Mail in the checklist. Your data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out but will return when you sign back in.

Re: Messages Menu Commands Greyed Out
    A simple solution...
After much troubleshooting, I have isolated the issue with the greyed out "Messages" app menu. The problem is due to the truetype font Apple Gothic missing which is required for the AppleID login window when you first launch Messages. You can just hit skip when the dialog box comes up, but until you do so the full messages menus are not available. So to fix, just drop AppleGothic.ttf in <bootdrive>/Library/Fonts and Messages 8.x should launch correctly. Apple should have really included this font in <bootdrive>/System/Library/Fonts since it is required for one of their Apps
Many people in the prepress or graphics arts fields will likely run into this issue when they customize fonts.

You don't have to type any server info for your iCloud account.
System prefs > Mail, Contacts & Calendars - New account and select iCloud.
Unfortunately, that was step 1 in the process of not being able to use my mail in iCloud. Also, I have tried changing my password to 8 numbers/letter, etc. in accordance with the new AppleID rules, but that did not work. I have also tried deleting and recreating my account multiple times. I am definitely willing to try any more suggestions.

  • Is iCloud @me mail server down?

Is icloud "@me" mail accounts down today? I tried to sign on and got this message...
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for the account "iCloud" and try again. The server returned the error: The connection to the server "p01-imap.mail.me.com" on port 993 timed out."   And then it gave me the option to report it to Apple, which i did.
My icloud settings are correct because I can access all other content
on icloud (contacts, calander, etc)....  It's just mail that won't load.
    anyone else having this issue?

My outgoing email sever isn't connecting when I try to send email on an Android phone.
Is this a case of Apple presuming that their customers only use iOS devices?
It's such a pain in the butt!

  • ICloud incoming mail server

    Good day all,
For most of the day yesterday I and many others were having difficulty authenticating iOS mail and OS X mail clients to the Apple "appleid.apple.com" servers.  It may have been a load issue or a configuration issue on the servers (which are used for both mobileme and icloud.  By mid-evening on the east oast of the USA the occurences of password reject were diminishing and now seem to have stabilized.
Today I am having problems with the incoming server bank at "p02-imap.mail.me.com".  It either does not connect or does not respond in adequate time to satisfy the Apple mail clients.
I have 4 ex-family MobileMe accounts converted to iCloud.  Three of them were assigned "p99-imap.mail.me.com" for incoming mail.  The fourth was assigned "p02-imap.mail.me.com".  In all instances the incoming mail server was populated during account migration and is not editable.
As an issue of curiousity, does anyone know how the incoming mail server was assigned?  Did the first 250,000 of us get one server and the next another, etc.?
I suspect  "pXX-imap.mail.me.com" is a server bank with load balancing implemented across multiple servers.  Or maybe (shudder) we are hard assigned one physical server (p99, p02, etc.).
It would be interesting to know how Apple's new improved data center(s) have been logically configured for redundancy, load balancing and fail over.
Sorry - it's the geek in me wondering why I can't get my email from a specific Apple resource ("p02-imap.mail.me.com").
    Alex

You shouldn't need to set Mail up yourself - if you are already signed into iCloud in System Preferences, sign out then sign back in again and enable Mail in the checklist there (and any other data types you want to sync). This will set Mail up for you. Your data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out but will reappear when you sign back in.

  • Icloud on Mail

So, I am no expert, but since "upgrading" to icloud, it is working on my iphone but not my MacBook using Mail. Has Mail been mothballed for icloud now? If so, icloud is useless to me. I get the same error saying that my password/user id is invalid. Really stupid. I deleted the account and re-set it all again as per Apple instructions, but same error. "Logging in to the MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages"

According to your signature you have 10.5.8, which is not compliant with iCloud.
You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:
