ICloud backs up movies but doesn't sync them?

May be just a fundamental misunderstanding, but both photos and movies are saved to Camera Roll, and both are included in the iCloud backups (determined by size of backup), so why do the photos sync to the PC but not the movies?  Obviously they are in iCloud so I don't see the reason those aren't pulled down to the desktop.

There's lots of data and settings that are stored in the backup that are not acccessible outside of restoring your phone to the backup.  I suspect they aren't accessible via iCloud data syncing because that would require that they be saved twice, once in the backup and again as synced data in your account; and they didn't want users to have to used that much iCloud storage to do so.
You are supposed to import your photos and videos to your computer via usb as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  Given the number of people who report that their photos and/or videos are missing after restoring their backup I recommend that you do this on a regular basis and not rely on the backup for these.

This is the Mac OS X Technologies > iSync forum - you are a Windows user.
iSync is a Mac-only application for syncing Contacts and Calendars to mobile phones and PDAs. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Windows, iPods or iTunes.

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen. not working, music plays but doesn't sync\

    Hello,
I have an iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen since a long time and it always worked perfectly. But now it has stopped working well. It has music stored inside and it plays it, it evencharges from the pc, but doesn't sync in iTunes, nor it shows up on Desktop. On iTunes the message in Italian says idt couldn't be identified and to reconnect the iPod and retry. I tried the Reset Utility but it says my iPod isn' supported even if it is a 2nd Gen iPod. The only positive thing is it shows up on System Profiler.
I tried also turning off the iPod for 5 seconds and turning it again on, but the issue is still there.
    Have you got any suggestions?
    Thankyou

Actually it turns out I can't even add to it. It claims it's synced to another library (which apparently is true, being as it was last used with my Macbook Pro). Somewhat new question, How do I combine the two libraries, as it's all mine, just on two different computers, one of which doesn't work unless it's in Hard Disk Mode.

Have you contacted app support or maybe view this video from the website? Are you trying to play them within the app itself? Did you double tap on the video that you want to watch?

Thanks for your reply, but you might have misunderstood it a bit. I'm NOT trying to buy a movie. ****, I'm not even in the actual Apple Store, when this happens I'm in the library not the Store part of iTunes.
To clarify - I have purchased a physical copy of a movie which came with another physical copy which contains the digital copy. The digital copy is on the DVD, all I need is just to transfer this file to my iPod Touch, for example, I'm not trying to download it from the store or repurchase it and it's not any gift code that I've received, the digital copy is on the disc. This is the first time ever that I've purchased something on a disc and I'm not allowed to access it because the disc hasn't been purchased within my country.
So again - I'm not attempting any purchase or download any purchased digital copy - it's on a DVD I own physically so... why is even the region of my Store relevant, the code I enter is (as I assume) just supposed to check if it's a legal genuine copy (which it is, as I've said - there are 6 discs in the pack: 3 movies on 3 Blu-rays and 3 DVD containing these digital copies of them). If I own it, I think that's proof enough that I have the right to use it. I just don't get it. I fully agree with you and understand your point if there was any purchase going on here, but it's not, it's just - I put a disc into my computer and I can't access it

I have no idea what may have caused your MacBook to stop working, but from your description it kind of sounds like it may have started before you ran Software Update and installed the new Apps. Just the general slow feeling and bugginess is what tips me off. You said that you weren't sure if you had closed all open windows, that doesn't matter if the computer restarts itself. It automatically closes all other open applications when restarting.
As to your data being retrievable, if when you take it in they do a fresh install of the OS, then no, it will not be unless you want to pay several thousand dollars to a software retrieval company.
I am glad to hear that you have taken into the Apple Store to get it fixed, and that you have all of your purchased music backed up to your iPod. You should be able to just transfer it all back to iTunes once you get your computer back should it be necessary.
As a side note, the proper place for this topic would probably in the MacBook forums, not iTunes since there is no evidence that iTunes started the issue.

Since downloading ios8 to my I pad mini I am unable to sync movies, however I can sync them on my I phone 5s with same update? How can I change this?

Thanks - that helped. But when I tried to sync all my photo folders to the I pad 2, I tunes would add some but not all of the ones that were marked to sync, end the sync, then the I pad 2 would hang with the wheel turning, saying it was still syncing photos, and it would not end and the remaining folders of photos never appeared. I finally had to sync and re-sync over and over by adding one folder of photos at a time, then another and another.

  • My iCalendar syncs between my iPad and my iPhone, but doesn't sync every entry with iCloud on my PC.  Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I live by my iCalendar and when I pulled it up on my PC this evening, I've noticed that only certain entries are syncing with my iCalendar (on my PC).  For example, my work schedule is present on my PC, iPhone, and iPad, but my class schedule is only present on my iPad and iPhone.  I have my settings adjusted so that every event/entry is to sync, and I just plugged my iPhone into my computer to sync it as well but to no avail.
Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
        1.    First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
        2.    Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
        3.    If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • I have Icloud through Itunes and Purchased Icloud on my Ipad but when I Sync my my Ipad with my Itunes account it downlods my music directly to my Ipad Hard drive and it's taken up all my available memory storage. How can I load my ituse in Icloud

I have an Iclouds account through Itunes and also I paid to have and an Icloud account on my Ipad but when I sync my Itunes music it's not being stored in the Icloud but directly on my Ipad haard drive. I like to know what do I have to do to correct this problem.

    Hey jousley33,
I see that you wish to have your music stored remotely and be able to access it via streaming on your iPad. This is a feature of the service called iTunes Match:
Apple - iTunes - iTunes Match
    https://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
You may also be able to access the music that you have purchased through the iTunes Store remotely:

  • Bought movie but can't sync it to iPod

Trying to help a friend who is new to iPods and came across a problem I've never had.
She normally uses iTunes at home and has never bought anything from it, just used it to transfer CD's onto her iPod Nano. She brought her iPod to work yesterday, authorized the work computer, and used a code to download a free movie.
When she tries to sync the movie to the iPod, it does not work.
She goes into Movies, checks 'Sync Movies', checks 'Selected', and checks the title of the movie she wants to sync. Then clicks on Apply.
She then gets a pop-up that says:
The iPod is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this library? An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library.
She does not want to lose all the CD music that she has on her iPod so she does not choose to 'Erase and Sync'. How can she get the movie in this library synced to her iPod? I never have any problems using two libraries- one on my home computer and one on my work computer. I don't know if it's because I purchased all my music directly from iTunes, or what.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

I just did this and we are now getting a pop up that says:
Are you sure you want to sync movies? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the IPOD will be removed and replaced with movies from your ITUNES library.
Im afraid we will lose the music that she already has uploaded on her IPOD even though the option is to sync movies the warning states songs will be lost.

  • My new computer recognizes my ipod, but I cannot sync them.

I transferred my itunes library from my old computer to my new, but cannot sync my ipod to the music library.  Instead of getting the message that my new computer does not recognise the device, the computer does recognize my ipod, but won't sync with it.  Is there a way to get the ipod to sync with the new computer or at least to move things from the itunes library to my ipod?

iPod Classic are high drain USB devices, I hope you are not trying to connnect them simultaneously to iTunes, which will definitely hang your USB Host controller, thereby freeze iTunes.
But here is an Apple Support Article on using multiple iPods for iTunes.

  • I do have an external HD with at least 3T of movies but can not play them at all  play them at all they are AVI movies what should i to to play them please help me out

    To all my Mac friends
I have an external hard drive with 3T of movies but i tried to play them i always get this message
:: To see if additional software is available that will enable Quick Time player to open the movie click for more:::
The listr of the movie is showing AVI Movies so i can not open any movie so pleaset help me help me find a way to transfer or to download any program such as VLC in order for me to watch that many movies and i thank you so much for your help and attention

Your intuition is correct. Download a free download of VLC player, and you may end up using it as your default video player. (It's faster and more versatile than QTPlayer.)
When you install it on your MacBook, it willl allow you to view media on your external HD.

  • I have songs in my library, but can't sync them to my nano

    Hey all!
I really hope that somebody can help me. To be honest I am not sure what I did, but I now do not have any songs on my nano. I do however have A LOT of songs in my library, but it won't let me sync them to my ipod.
"This is the message that I keep getting:
Songs on the Ipod 'my Ipod' cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist."
This isnt true tho because I do have playlists with songs in them and I can see ALL of my songs in my library.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
      Windows XP

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection

  • Apple TV movie purchase doesn't sync back to iTunes

I'd recently purchased a movie directly from within Apple TV but it is not synchronizing back to iTunes. The content on my computer synchronizes correctly to the Apple TV but my purchases and rentals are not synchronizing back the other way.
I've tried removing the synchronization settings from both the computer and the Apple TV and then setting it back up again. My music synchronizes over but -- again -- my movie sits happily on the Apple TV but not in iTunes.
When I look at the movie on the Apple TV, it has the little trash can indicator next to it.
I'm using Apple TV 2.1 and iTunes 7.7.1 (on a MacBook Pro).
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I have a similar issue. Just got an Apple TV and synced it to iTunes on MacBook Pro and everything worked fine - got about 7gb of photo and music content synced to ATV without any issues.
However, when I purchased a TV episode on ATV, the whole setup is stuck. Every time I start a sync on iTunes, it tries to sync the purchased file (about 500mb) from ATV to iTunes first, before getting to the photos and music sync in the other direction. The problem is that iTunes completely hangs in about 20-30% into the copy process, with the coloured wheel mouse cursor running infinitely.
I've now upgraded the software components (ATV to 2.2, iTunes to 8.0.1), tried removing the ATV relationship to computer and adding it back again, restarting both ATV and MBP in the process, also removed com.apple.itunes.plist as some forum suggested. Nothing, it ends still in the same place. I am yet to do a full reset to ATV, as I'd prefer not to loose the purchased file, which I do not have any copies of outside the ATV.
Through the attempts the ATV now is empty of any photos/music that were synced to there before, there is just the one sad little purchased episode. And I can not add anything back, as iTunes always starts with the purchase sync... which fails.
One thing some sites are hinting to but I haven't quite understood is the notion of primary and secondary iTunes Store authorizations. The iTunes account I use was created on a separate PC version of iTunes. However, the MBP is authorized too and I've used it to add credit, etc.
    Any thoughts?

  • My ipod starts to sync but doesn't sync all songs error 53 comes up

each time  i try to sync my ipod it puts on any number of amounts onto it 43, 28, 65 songs. i've tried to do the 5 r's but that doesn't do much i can . i can still listen to all the albums on the itunes page so it's got to be the ipod and if i play say ,, vortex next time i go to play it doesn't save it for next time you use it

Jack, thanks for the update, you got the latest software.
Syncing issues can be cause by many situations
Use the USB 2.0 port at the back of your PC and not those at the front and dont use any USB Hub, as they share the data bus transfer resource.
Disconnect all other USB devices while syncing, except the mouse or keyboard.
Winsock has confilcts with iTunes, most of these are in Antivirus and plugins, so stop them, but please disconnect from the Internet.
iPod Hard disk has bad clusters - causing read/write delays - no fix, only recommend replacement.
Good luck on 1-3, if it doesn't work let me know.
