Hello, my iMessage randomly took up 1 GB in my storage and I was searching how to fix it and they said to go on iCloud and turn on iCloud backup and restore your device and I was thinking will it save your process on apps when they re-install?

What do you mean by saving process on apps? Do you mean progress in games? If that is what you mean, then yes, backing up should save game progress.

Thanks fromsouth. It would be nice if there was an item for iMessages in the list of things to be backed up (on the iPhone, where it shows how much space each item takes up). I ended up deleting all of my iMessages, then deleting the iPhone backup on the account, re-enabling the backup, and now my backups are 670MB. Quite a big difference from 2.7GB.
I can't imagine my iMessages were really taking up that much space, but they must have been. At least now I know where the other 2GB or so was that I couldn't account for.

Removing icloud backup and restoring backup to ipad

My dad has an ipad air. He has been using icloud backup. For some reason he has decided that he doesn't want to use the icloud backup, but of course he doesn't know how to get out of it or how to just use a backup from his computer. He has asked me to help him, lucky me, I have to ask everyone for help.
I believe he can manually back-up to his computer from his ipad using itunes. First of all, does that in fact back up everything from his ipad?
If I understand correctly, if he deletes the icloud backup, then everything that icloud has backed up is also deleted from his ipad? Is that correct?
If so how should he proceed: Should he first make sure he has a correct backup of his ipad through itunes to his computer, assuming that this backup automatically backs up everything. Then, does he delete everything that icloud has backed up on his ipad under "managing storage". If he turns off Photos and Documents and Data under the icloud account then a message comes up saying that all documents and data stored in icloud will be deleted from this ipad. So, he wants to be sure that if he restores through itunes that everything gets put back on his ipad.
This is confusing to me. I just want to be sure that he doesn't end up losing anything in the process.
Any easy procedures to help me do this for him without causing headaches or loss of data would be appreciated. I have tried searching on help topics and ipad and itunes help, but it gets rather overwhelming. I know I can just turn off icloud backups so that it doesn't do that anymore, the problem is that my dad doesn't want the stuff in icloud that is already there to stay there.

Are you sure it's done restoring? Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage and Backup and scroll to the very bottom. It will say Restoring iPhone if it isn't finished.

I have this exact same issue. Replaced my iPhone 4s with the new iPhone 5s, setting up my new iPhone 5s to restore from iCloud. This completed and now I am unable to delete my old iPhone 4s iCloud backup (consuming 15.1 GB of my 20GB allocation). How can I delete it, so that I get my 15 GB back? I am not going to invest in additional iCloud storage, because I will be 15 GB down from the off.

Until and unless you remember the password to your old email address, you will not be able to access the eBooks as those eBooks are only authorized with your old email address only.
The only workaround or alternative to access your eBooks will be to contact the eBook vendor and ask them to migrate the eBook from your old email to the new one.

How can you restore from both an iCloud backup AND an iTunes backup?

In article HT5262 (linked below) iOS backups are covered. There is a section "When to use iCloud and iTunes Backup together". I understand how to do this and the reasons why. What I haven't been able to find is an explanation of how you would actually restore from both? I know how to restore from each, however, if I first restore from iCloud, how can I then proceed to restore from iTunes without overwriting my iCloud restore?

Demo, thanks for the reply. What you wrote is exactly what I thought. I'm trying to figure out why Apple is putting out this article (see partial contents below). The implication is that you can restore from both or why back up some data to one and different data to the other:
"When to use iCloud and iTunes Backup together
For an extra level of backup for your data, you can use iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup together."
Tip: If you are using iCloud and iTunes Backup together, and you simply want to speed up your iCloud Backup & Restore functions, you can save iCloud storage by turning off iCloud Backup for very large data types. For example, if you have a 15 GB Camera Roll on your iPhone, you may not wish to back it up to iCloud because it is already being manually backed up to iTunes. You can disable back up of any iCloud Backup item in Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Backups > Backup Options. After doing so, these items will only be backed up when you manually back up to iTunes.

How can I restore a document/file to my iPad from the iCloud backup without restoring the whole device from the iCloud backup?

My iPad has a number of documents, including pdf, xls, doc, ppt files. Some are associated with Documents to Go - Premium, which froze on the device attempting to download an update and had to be deleted (which also deleted the files that only were on the iPad and associated witht the app). How do I restore only that app and/or the related files from the iCloud. Ans I've found so far were not clear/specific enough or seemed to indicate the entire iPad had to be restored. iOS 5.1.1

Step by step

11. Selected Restore from iCloud Backup
12. You'll be required to enter Apple ID and Password
13. Agree to Terms and Conditions
14. Select Backup file
15. You'll see progress bar
16. Red slider will appear; slide to unlock; step #1 to #16 is fast
17. Pre-installed apps will be restored first
18. Message: Purchased apps and media will now be automatically downloaded
19. You'll see a pageful of apps with Waiting/Loading/Installing

I found a way to get to my data. So do not need remedy at this time.
fwiw, I changed my ios7.04 setup answer of restore from itunes to new iphone. Eventually that allowed me to set up icloud, then turn off find iphone, restore. Very strange ios update.

I do not wish to go to ios 7 at this time.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues, contact the carrier to troubleshoot the network connectivity issues.

My Blackberry Messenger and Blackberry World is working fine so I am sure its not an ID issue on the phone. I can sign into Link, Blackberry.com and Protect. I see my device in Protect but cannot send messages or view it on a map. Times out with cannot reach device message. BB Protect on Device has a swirling circle beside the on/of switch. Cannot turn off.
I have deleted Link and re-installed.

I managed to figure this out myself. I had to delete the device from the Blackberry Protect website. protect.blackberry.com. I wiped my device again and signed in with my Blackberry ID. I dont know if the step of wiping was necessary as I did not try my backup with the current configuration on the device following the delete. Restore is in progress for me!

When I go to my backup and Restore and check the job status it tells me there is a backup in progress:

How do I reset this as there is no backup that I have run for some time?

According to your post, my understanding is that the job status still shown “A
backup or restore is currently in progress”.
Did you delete a old search application and recreate a new one before?
If so, maybe the old object is still existing in SQL, you can used the following stsadm command:
Stsadm -o deleteconfigurationobject -id “object GUID”
To find the object GUID, simply go into Central Admin - Manage Service Applications and highlight the offending legacy service application (Search Service
Application in the case). You should now be able to see the GUID in the IE address bar. Run the command above, and try your backups again and all should be well.
