ICloud backup; can I back up contacts without email and calendar?

Hi,
I have ported my iPhone from my old work to my new workplace. I've backed up all my contacts to iCloud. When work added my new email account, I lost all my contacts. When I restored them from the cloud, I lost my new work email. How do I restore my old contacts, and keep my new email and calendar?

Hi Brendan. Thanks for your clue but unfortunately that did not solve the problem. Prior to posting my query I had already checked out the article you're referring me to (whose URL is http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3605). It may well be that I'm not being crystal clear owing to my far from perfect English but the whole point is precisely that I'm not able to import contacts which ALREADY appear on my iPad - being the outcome of syncing my remote MS Exchange account with the device - into iCloud. The procedure described in the quoted article simply doesn't work (for that matter, no such Setting sign pops up under ICloud contacts). In fact, it appears that the only contacts which I'm able to keep under iCloud are those which I directly create from scratch within iCloud Group itself. Since I'm likely to have my MS outlook account ( which is mirrored into a MS Exchange one for remote usage) forcibly deleted in one month time or so, I started worrying about how to keep my contacts alive/ intact after that deletion. If you are using iCloud, you don't need to back up these items because they are synced with your iCloud account.

Internally, all calendar items are based on GMT... That's how you can send an invitation to someone in a different time zone, for a conference call, for example, and end up on the phone at the same time even though you may be many hours apart by the clock...

The iPhone doesn't save contacts to the SIM card so I don't know what good knowing the SIM card number would do you. If you have no back up of the contacts, they are lost.

Apparently Google keeping a "copy of everything" isn't deterrent enough for you to get another device. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you've posted in the Android forum, indicating you have a Google product.
Frankly, I could care less about them copying everything. I don't post or type anything online that's incriminating or private anyway. Technically, your ISP has access to anything and everything you transmit or receive through their network, anyway.

MobileMe was discontinued in 2012 and all the data stored on it was deleted, and iCloud can't make backups of Macs.
What I recommend you to make backups is to get an external drive and use Time Machine or an application like Carbon Copy Cloner. With this, you can access to your data everywhere and safely, and then, if you want, use a cloud storage service like CrashPlan. You can keep on using iCloud without backups

You will need to set it up as a new phone, not from a backup, first. Then, after setup is complete, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi and have at least 50% battery power. After then update downloads and installs, you can go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
This will let you go through the setup again, and this time you can choose your backup.

Can you clarify your problem? Are you having trouble restoring your new iPhone from a previous phone's backup? Or are you having trouble logging into iMessage?

On the iPad tap Settings > iCloud. Switch Calendars off then back on then reset the iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
On the iMac, open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the box next to Calendars then reselect that box then restart your iMac.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
