ICloud Backup failed.  Turn off Airplane Mode or use Wi-fi.

iCloud Backup Failed.  Turn off Airplane Mode or use Wi-fi.  Airplane mode is turned off and I am connected to wi-fi but still I can't backup.  What do I do now?

Hi Barbara,
I just had the same issue.
resolution:
get to your network settings - disable wifi, then enable 3G and cellular connection
Now get back to icloud backup menu and try to enable. of course it wont work. back again to network settings switch wifi back on, and got to icloud again. This time it will allow you to set your backup
cheers :-)

  • My iPhone 3gs backed up to the iCloud just fine, but my new iPhone 5 gives me an error and says to turn off airplane mode or use wi-fi.  It is connected to my wi-fi and airplane mode is off.  It can see the internet just fine.  What gives?

I backed up my iPhone 3GS to iCloud.  Activated my iPhone 5 and restored it from iCloud.  But iPhone 5 will not backup to iCloud, only to my MacBook.  When I try to turn it on on the phone it gives me an error that I must turn on Wi-Fi or turn off Airplane mode.  Wi-Fi is on an the phone is talking to the internet just fine and airplane mode is off, but I still get the error. Is this a known problem?

You mean take the cover off of the iPhone, to look inside?  I'd recommend against it.  Even with warranty expired, you might qualify for an out-of-warranty service, which for 3GS is $149.
Other than that, any repair/service options are going to cost money.  You might want to see if a wireless carrier will let you get a new contract & phone.
Out of curiousity, you're just using at as, basically, an iPod Touch, if there's no cell provider?  Did I understand that correctly?

  • TS3992 Altho' my 4S iPhone is connected to Wi-fi & I have a correct Apple/icloud ID and password, I keep getting the message "icloud backup Failed. Turn off airplane mode, or use Wi-Fi to enable iCloud backup." Should I delete my account, setting up a new

I cannot activate my iCloud backup of my 4S iPhone, even though I have definitely deactivated Airplane mode, and am connected to Wi-Fi.  I also have a correct Apple/iCloud ID and password.
Should I delete my iCloud account and set up a new one??
Please give me some assistance with this problem!
    Sincerely, Brianrit

To unfreeze it, reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.
To troubleshoot your problem with backing up to iCloud, this may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your iPad that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • What happens if I turn off airplane mode while I am in a foreign country?

What happens if I turn off airplane mode briefly while in a foreign country? I need to delete video voice mails to get that red dot off and hopefully get my FaceTime to work again.

To delete visual voicemails requires data or internet access via a carrier's cellular network. Visual voicemail access with the iPhone is not done via wi-fi. It is done via the cellular data or internet network only.
Turning Airplane mode off will not turn wi-fi off.

  • ICloud backup fails, What to do?

I got this message: iCloud Backup Failed. Turn off Airplane Mode or use Wi-Fi to enable iCloud Backup. May Airplane Mode is off and I am on the Wi-Fi net. The total storage and available says "loading". Storage: Total Storage and Available says: Loading. When I start Backup I got this message: iCloud storage details ar cyrrently unavailable. Try again later. I cant come in to the Manage Storage.

And check the console logs for the backupd process to see if any clues are given.
Regarding that, I recently noticed that Console now offers a form of smart search called a "Log Database Query." Two "canned" ones are provided, "All Messages" & "Console Messages," but you can make your own.
To do this for TM, try selecting "New "Log Database Query" from Console's File menu, give it a suitable name, & enter the criterion 'Sender ... Contains ... backupd'
What's really cool about this is you get the same display as with the canned queries, including the "Level" column that helps separate errors, notices, & warnings from one another. Put the singular form of any of these words in the Console window search box, select "Highlight Results" from the drop down menu attached to the little arrow in the search box, & entries of that type really stands out.

  • How to turn off flight mode on my iphone 4s?

my iphone 4s is automatically turn on to flight mode and even i turn it off it does not turn off. can any body help me to change this mode?

Go to your settings and make sure that you have turned off "airplane mode" and I'm not too sure what "restrictions" has to do with turrning off airplane mode because I cannot find a button on restrictions for airplane mode in "enable restrictions." If you are having problems making phone calls or turning on bluetooth or wifi, then check to see if you have turned off the services in your settings section under bluetooth and wifi and then go to go to settings to see if your cellular setting is on. Also make sure that you are not in "do not disturb" that may cause nothing to work.

  • Everytime I go to turn on my iCloud backup I get "iCloud Backup Failed" any ideas as to what to do

Everytime I go to turn on my iCloud backup I get "iCloud Backup Failed"  what to do

    Gail from Maine,
Thank you so much in your continued efforts to help me out. Much appreciated.
    Here is what I see..
Can't select the backup =  I go to Settings>iCloud>Backup (shows off).  I select > Backup(off)> and see iCloud Backup grayed out (not selectable).
I have plenty of storage available: Settings>iCloud>Storage shows 195GB Available
When I select: Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage>  My iPhone does not show up under the backup list. I use this iPhone with iTunes (if that matters).
When I select: Settings>iCloud>Photos(On)> iCloud Photo Library (Beta) is selected on and shows "Uploading 1,131 items".  But does not start upload and the message always remains the same.  Tried shutting the Photo Library (Beta) on an off and no change. Also tried it after the reset and sow no difference.
On that same Settings>iCloud>Photos page there is a selection Upload to My Photo Stream.  Prior to installing iOS 8, pictures I took with my phone would automatically copy over to the photo stream on the other 3 devices on my account when in the presence of WiFi.  The other 3 still do it and are all running iOS 8.  This iPhone stopped doing it after the iOS 8 Update and installation of iCloud. It was working before on iOS 7.
The only different app that this iPhone has is a WirWatch, which is used to receive pushed e-mails from work onto my computer. This App was there when I was running iOS 7.  Don't know if it could be the reason. But none of the other devises have this feature.
    Thanks,
    Dan R.

  • My iphone 4s loses the signal and to recover it I have to turn on and off airplane mode, can anyone help me??

my iphone 4s loses the signal and to recover it I have to turn on and off airplane mode, can anyone help me??

Generally speaking, the iPad backup process is a disaster recovery process, not an archive process.  Typically, when creating a new backup, the old one is erased.
If you go to iTunes' Preferences (under the leftmost heading in iTunes' menu on your computer) and then choose "Devices", do you see the specific backup you want to restore listed there?  If so, you can restore it.  If not, I don't believe you can.

Not sure what else to do, and don't want to take it in!

  • Icloud backup fails on ipad

ICloud takes hours and hours only to end with a failure notice. I'm plugged in, locked and on wi-fi. Any ideas? Oct 30 was my last auto backup.

Try deleting your last backup by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on again. • HT4859 After updating my iPhone 4s to iOS 6.1.2, the iCloud backups fails

After updating my iPhone 4s to iOS 6.1.2, the iCloud backups fails. It appears it is trying to backup the entire 3.1 GB not just new data, thereby exceeding the 5.0Gb limit. I have checked the phone contents on my iMac and there is very little new data so the backup should be successful. I have tried rebooting the phone, which did not help. Phone is not jailbroken. Any suggestions? Thanks....

I have a similar problem, but after following your suggestion of deleting my iphone backup and then turning backup back on again, I needed to plug my phone into my computer to sync the backup.  I re-tried to do an icloud backup and it again told me that  "the last backup could not be completed"... since I had deleted the backup, it says the "Last backup:  never".  Ugh. I reconnected my iPhone 4S to my computer and iTunes so I could sync my phone and do a backup... it's still "waiting for sync to start"...
For your iCloud backup, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding. If you turned iCloud backup off and try to sync to create a backup on your computer and got a "waiting for sync to start" error, it may be caused by a corrupt backup on your computer.  You could try deleting your last backup by opeing iTunes and going to Preferences>Devices, clicking on your last backup and clicking Delete Backup.  Then try again.
