Icloud backup slow

it gets longer and longer. what is the fastest way to backup

If you can, try backing up locally to your computer rather than iCloud.  This is typically much faster, and more comprehensive than an iCloud backup.  I actually do both, where my local backup is my main one and iCloud backup is only done once per month in case I'm ever out and about and needed to restore my iPhone (or replace it :-O )  If you prefer to backup to iCloud, you might periodically try to backup to your computer, a little redundancy doesn't hurt.
As for the speed issue I suppose it could be an internet or Wi-Fi speed issue that pops up periodically, or something is tweaked with your backup.  Maybe try a local backup for safekeeping, delete the iCloud backup entirely, then initiate a new iCloud backup.  See if that speed things up with your next iCloud backup?  Post back if you need help backing up to iTunes and/or deleting an iCloud backup.

  • Slow iCloud backup

Lately I have been experiencing very slow iphone backups to iCloud. The message normally reads that the back up is expected to take forty something minutes. This happens every day, as I normally back it up every day. This started recently, before it used to be a breeze. I do it while the phone is connected and while connected to my home wi-fi network, so I do not understand what has happened as of late. Is anyone else experiencing this issue and if so, do you know the reason for this?

I had a new handset delivered today due to my old one being damaged. As I went to restore from iCloud backup it is telling me I can't due to the handset not having iOS 7.1. How can I resolve this issue?
Could I select 'Set up as New IPhone' and then update to iOS 7.1 and then proceed to restore the phone from my most recent iCloud  backup ?
Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

    Hi again razmee209!
It has been updating since your last message and it says there's another 6 hours to go, does this sound right or is there a possibility I've been sent a re-con and the update will slow down my new handset considerably?!

  • Icloud backup taking too long

my iphone 4 has been on "icloud backup" for the past 24 hours. I can't use my phone nor interrupt the back up. How can I get out of this?

How long it takes to restore from an iCloud backup will depend on how much "stuff" you have to restore and how fast (or slow) your Internet connection is.
If you still have the 4S and it hasn't been wiped, it might be more effective to back it up to your computer using iTunes and restore the 5s from that instead.

  • ICloud Backup crashes and will not complete on iPad 3rd Gen

iCloud Backup has not been able to complete a backup on my 3rd Gen iPad since I upgraded to iOS 7.1. The backup starts, but about half-way through the iPad spontaneously reboots. This happens both when I manually start the backup from the Settings app and also when it attempts an automatic backup while the screen is off. I am also syncing with iTunes on my Mac, so I have occasional backups that way, but I would like to get iCloud backup to work again.
    Is anybody else experiencing this?
In general, I find iOS 7.1 slow and still very buggy on a 3rd Gen iPad. I don't think the hardware can really keep up with it.
    Thanks,
    Drew

FYI iOS 7.1 runs fine on my iPad 3. I haven't encountered any bugs.
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
    No data will be lost.
If this doesn't solve your problem and, accounting for your mention of other bugs, consider doing a complete restore to Factory using iTunes on your computer.

  • There was a problem enabling icloud backup (settings crashes)

I have an iPhone 4S with IOS 7.1.2 and i've been able to backup my phone prior to updating to IOS8.
After installing IOS 8 my phone became really slow and unusable and I went back to iTunes and did a full restore.
I've been able to get everything working again except the iCloud backup.
It was enabled after a fresh install but never actually backed anything up:
"there was a problem with icloud backup" and a daily backup is never performed.
    The phone is fully charged
    Connected to wifi
Whenever I try to backup manually it also fails.
I tried to disable icloud backup and enable it again but that didn't work either as now SETTINGS crashes everytime I enable the icloud backup setting.
    any suggestions?

Make sure to change your backup selection in iTunes to icloud...you can't backup your phone to icloud unless iTunes is set to icloud.

  • ICloud backup takes forever and failed systematically on iPad 2 OS 5

    Hello
iCloud backup hasn't work on my iPad 2 OS 5 since early January. It doesn't seem to try to backup automatically, mormif it does it probably fails, and when I launch the backup manually it starts correctly and estimates backup time will be 3 hours. But even if my iPad is connected to WiFi, locked and plugged in during 8 hours or more, the backup still seems to be in progress but when the bar is almost full like if it was about to end the backup it suddenly stops and I got the message Backup Failed..it's very frustrating..
I've setup correctly my iPad and iTunes to backup with iCloud, the estimated storage volume is 3 GB, is it the reason why it fails?
Back up works on my iPhone 4 but if I can't back up and sync with iPad it's not cool...
    Thanks for your help!
    Fred

    Hi,
I had the exact same problem. Ipad2, IOS5, 15GB on iCloud, very slow backup which fails after a long time, last backup december 1st. The same with manual backup starts.
What I did: made the backup content as small as possible. I had several GBs of books and magazine in FileApp, iBooks and apps like these. I chose not to be backed up these. The backup size was much more smaller than the remaining space on my iCloud account. I didn't sart the backup manually, instead I waited for the automatic backup. Checked after 3 hours and the backup was finally made succesfully.
One more thing, it's important for automatic backup to start to load the battery, lock the screen (and be on wifi).
I suspect that this issue is connected to too big backup size BEFORE buying the 10+ GBs. The iCloud account or the iPad itself doesn't recognize all the space you have in iCloud if you - at some point in the past - tried to upload too much data.

  • Set up iPhone from iCloud backup

    Advice needed please.
My current iPhone 5s on ios8.1 is backed up to iCloud and I will soon need to set up a second 5s but will be in a country with very slow internet and intermittent connection and no access to my iTunes.
What I would like to do is to activate the second phone over wifi but only set it up using the native Apple apps and my contacts from my iCloud backup so as to save time in downloading.
Is it possible when choosing to set the phone up using an existing iCloud backup to select what apps / content is downloaded or  the only option to download the full backup? I have set up phones before using iCloud backups but cannot recall whether there was an option to be selective as to what was downloaded.

    That is great, many thanks
It is only the unreliability as to to long it will be before the internet connection drops that I want to do it this way.
    Again, my thanks.

  • IPad use for both work and personal by leveraging multiple iCloud backups

I have an original iPad 1 that's my personal iPad.  Since I got an iPhone 5S over a year ago, I almost never use the iPad as it's so frustratingly slow compared to the 5S, and most of the most recent apps don't work on iOS 5.1.1.
I work for a small consulting firm where a large part of my responsibilities is business development.  2-2.5 years ago, I started occasionally needing an iPad for doing sales presentations of enterprise software.  So, I purchased and expensed a then cutting edge 4th Gen iPad.  For work purposes, I've always kept this iPad nearly completely empty except for essential software. In the past 6 months, I've needed this iPad less and less for said presentations.  I'm down to not even turning it on once a month, and have gone 3 months at a time without touching it.  That said, there's always a chance I'll find out that a week from now I'll need to fly somewhere and do a demo using it.
I was really hoping iOS 8 was going to enable multi-user support, but obviously it did not.  I'm now pondering the use of iCloud backups as an effective means of multiple user functionality when you don't have to switch user accounts very often.
My thinking is that I can make sure my personal iPad 1 is fully backed up to my personal 20GB iCloud account, and that the work iPad is fully backed up to the work iCloud account.  I'd then wipe the work iPad, log in to it using my personal iCloud account and let it restore from there.  At that point I'd be using the work iPad for personal use and would completely stop using the iPad 1.
If I found out I needed to demo using the iPad a week later, I would wipe the iPad 4 clean again, after which I'd log in to the work iCloud account, let it restore, and be good to go.  Once done the presentation, I could then wipe it, log back in to my personal iCloud and let it restore.
Every time I found myself needing to use the iPad for work purposes I would simply go through the above process.
    My questions are:
Are there are any holes in my logic?
Am I risking data loss on either the work or personal account?
I assume iCloud accounts can exist with backups intact even if no device is currently utilizing them?Is there any time limit to this?
Besides the time it takes to wipe and restore the iPad, are there any downsides to the above process?
Is there any reason I cannot wipe my iPad 1 and sell it/donate it?
    Thank you in advance.

Ah, MBA makes more sense.  Unfortunately, the point of demoing on the iPad is to explicitly show that the enterprise software is iPad compatible and what it looks like on it.  Everyone's a skeptic, so I definitely have to use the actual iPad and not emulation software.
As far as overwriting a backup, I would think that the only backups ever visible would be those for the account i'm currently logged in as.  I don't see how it's plausible then to overwrite any in the wrong account.  Again, these are 100% separate accounts that have nothing at all connecting them.  If it were possible, wouldn't the people who sell their iDevices on ebay be complaining about how the recipients deleted their iCloud backups.  I'm effectively transferring the device in the same way...just between by own 2 disconnected accounts instead of 2 humans with 2 disconnected accounts.
I don't really view it as a time drain, as when switching accounts I'd just "Reset all settings," and walk away.  I'd later log in as the other user, and would walk away again while the iPad just automatically starts loading everything up.  I'm not sitting there waiting for it, as this is merely a luxury device that I've never once had an immediate need for.  It's just a "nice to have."
Again, this transfer would likely only be happening once every 6 weeks anyway.  The majority of the time it would be set up on my personal account.
WiFi is no issue, as I'd only do this while at home on my 50/50 FiOS.  Again, I never "need" the iPad on my personal account such that waiting until I return home from a trip would be an issue.

  • What happens if I click "delete backup" in order to delete the iCloud backups from my sisters phone off my device. Will it delete everything on her phone?

So a while ago when I got my phone I started a new Apple ID account/ iCloud.. Then when my sister got a new iphone I gave her my id to use too. In settings-general-usage it says that my storage is almost full. I then click on manage storage and it shows my phone and my sisters phone and how many gb or whatever. Also it says "last backup failed" and other stuff that's Irrelevant. Now when I click on my sisters phone I have an option to "delete backup" MY QUESTION is if I click the delete backup button will it just delete the iCloud backup off my phone OR will it totally delete everything involving the backup off my sisters phone forever??? Please help! Thank you so much!!!!!

Deleting a backup deletes the backup only from the iCloud storage, not anything on the iPhone.
The iPhone's iCloud backup will be updated at some point - automatically when the iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network while connected to a power source unless the iCloud backup is turned off on the iPhone.

  • Why is my iCloud backup for photos 3.3 Gbs but I only have 12 photos in my camera roll?

After purchasing my iPhone 4S I performed a restore from backup that I had from my iPhone 4 (running iOS 4.3.5). Prior to doing this restore, I did not realize that my photos were not being synchronized from my iOS device and saved in that backup. So, the hundreds of photos I had on my iPhone 4 were lost in the transfer to my 4S; but then I noticed something odd. Upon closer inspection of my iCloud backup, my storage usage says my camera roll is taking up 3.3 Gbs of my backup! When I did the backup, I had only taken about 12 pictures on my 4S, there was absolutely no way those photos were taking up 3.3 Gbs of space. I was hoping that after synchronizing with iCloud that I would see all my old photos slowly pour in from the Photo Stream; but to no avail.
Is it possible that my iPhone 4 photos were in fact carried with that restore from backup, but are not showing up in my camera roll? If so, how do I retrieve my photos? So many lost memories!

That's odd. I can't imagine what else would take up so much space.
Have you any other Apps that have downloaded data
..  appdata and settings of apps, "preferences", saved games "levels reached" , and downlaoded stuff that are stored within an app ", for example videodownloading app that has stored content in the iOS are uploaded ..
Apps themself /Books/Music/etc are not uploaded to your personal cloud, they are held back by Apple in the store for future re-downloading options. So this can't also be the culprit.

  • Why did a game app use my iCloud storage when I have iCloud backup turned off?

I have a game app that I just bought but when I looked in my settings under iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage then under Documents & Data I noticed that game had used some iCloud space. I have iCloud backup off but in settings>iCloud Documents & Data is on along with few other ones like Contacts, Calendars, Reminders...etc. I'm curios if this game app is using the 5 gigabytes of free space I have that's not even on for backup?  What documents & data actually get stored when Documents & Data are turned on?  I totally understand the Contacts, Reminders, Bookmarks, Notes, Photostream...etc but somebody explain please what Documents & Data stores. Thanks.
    Tommy V.

The weather app that came with my iPhone 4s will sync with my iPod touch 4th generation weather app that it came with also.  For example, if I add a city like Las Vegas on my iPhone then when I go to my iPod Touch, Las Vegas will be there as well.  Also for example if i restore my iPhone or iPod touch clean, the weather data all appears there.  All the cities that I've added for weather are there.

  • I currently have an iPhone 5, 16gb. I Do Not want to Loose any photos or albums by deleting them from my phone and not backing them up correctly. My iCloud backup is only storing my "Photo Stream" and I can not locate them in iTunes after I sync/Back up.

I currently have an iPhone 5, 16gb. My storage is almost full on my phone. There are only 80 mg available. I am new to icloud and also have always had trouble navigating around iTunes. (Even after endlessly reading through support and help topics as well as calling)   My concern is about Not Losing any of my photos if I delete them from my phone. I have to delete a large portion of my camera roll as well as the Album Folders I have created. Although it would be great if there was a way to just keep my albums still. I have already backed them up to an external hard-drive, my computer and a geek stick. I'm not trying to be too paranoid about these photos, but, they are all of my 3 children. There are over 4000 pictures stored on my phone. Some photos go back as far as 2009.   Can you offer any information about backing up my Camera Roll, not just "Photo Stream", and albums I've created On my phone? I read that it's good to back photos up on both iTunes as well as icloud. I even purchased extra icloud storage to back them all up.   I do regularly back up/sync, my phone to my computers.   However, I cannot even locate where they are stored on iTunes, let alone look at them. And as far as my iCloud backup, it only stores the new pictures from "Photo Stream".   Please offer any advice you may have. I do not use up a lot of storage on my phone other than Photos and Contacts (it's a work phone).   I would definitely be able to sleep better knowing my children can one day see these pictures of themselves. I appreciate your time. Thank you,

First of all, you should always save you photos on computer like any other digital camera.
Backup on iCloud or iTunes only backup your Camera Roll. The other photos should be already on the computer.
Note: Photos are not saved in iTunes, it's only a conduit between your iPhone and your photo managing software on computer.
    What computer do you have?

  • I lost my iPhone device, how can I get my data back on another one without using an iCloud backup just back up on i Tunes, Please Help.

I lost my iPhone device, how can I get my data back on another one without using an iCloud backup just back up on i Tunes, Please Help.??

You can find the backup files and then copy them to a safe place if you are worrying about this.
iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.

  • Unable to restore from my icloud backup

I backed up my 3gs via iCloud and purchased a new 4s. I was expecting to be able to restore from my iCloud backup, but when i tried, it said there was no backup information. I did reset the 3gs before attempting to get the restore started on the 4s. Could that have deleted my backup? I don't think it should have, but I'm not sure why else my iCloud backup is gone. It's screwed me pretty bad. I lost a lot of information!
    Help!

I had  the same problem, too (but when switching from 4 to 4S).
Reason: The iPhone 4S had firmware 5.0.1, whereas the older iPhone 4 was updated to 5.1 already. The backups are incompatible and hence not shown!!
Solution: First update the 4S to the same (or newer) software version, then restore from the backup.
The update is possible without using iTunes, just update "OTA" ("over the air") from within the iPhone (General -> Settings -> Software update)
