ICloud Backup to take 30 hours???

Ok, so I've even deactivated the Photo Stream and Documents & Data settings and it is telling me anywhere from 22 to 30 hours to back up.  Does this seem logical?  Anyone else having these kinds of results?

The Backup time depends on how fast your upload speed for your internet is.
The fastest home networks have hardly 500KB of upload speed, so do expect the first backup to be slow.
Your future backups i believe should be faster but the thumb rule is the upload internet speed is the factor that drives your backup speed.

you could always try turning the phone off and starting the backup over again. If it's still happening, it's possible that it's related to the network you're in

When I try to use my iCloud backup it takes forever to backup and then sometimes it says unable to backup what do I do

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

  • Icloud backup taking 30-50 hours? 7.9 gb of storage. why so long, just me?

Since updating yesterday i havent been able to backup to icloud. every time i try it just takes forever and never seems to get anywhere. it starts saying around 30 hours and ive seen it go up past 50 hours remaining. this cant possibly be normal. i purchased the extra 10gb for $20 and cant figure out how to get it to work. any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks

i transferred most videos and a bunch of pics to my computer and deleted them from the phone. After shrinking the backup size considerably i actually got it to work. now when i try and backup it works much much faster because its not trying to do all of it at once. idk if im right in why it works now, but it does. try clearing some of your media to get the initial backup done, then you can always add back anything u want.

  • ICloud backup questions?

Quick question- I see a message that says my phone needs to be locked for iCloud to back up all my stuff? Is that true? or will it back up if I'm using it? I will be going to get a new iPhone very soon so I want to make sure all my data is backed up. Also, approx how long will this take if i only have mail, contacts, photos and music being backed up?

To back up your phone manually:
Connect the device to a power source and make sure that you are also connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup and tap Back Up Now.
Depending on the speed of your connection, & the amount of data, an initial iCloud backup can take several hours or more.
Automatic backups to iCloud require your phone be connected to a power source, wifi, & the screen locked.

  • TS3992 Why did it say " Backup could not be completed"? Was it because it estimated it would take 3 hours to do the backup and it was timed out?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • ICloud backup is going to take 20 hours!!

    Hi folks,
Hope you can help with two iCloud problems.
    1) iTunes was happily running on a Vista laptop.  Everything worked fine.  I removed the hard drive and installed a bigger hard drive running Windows 7.  Installed iTunes (ver 11.1.5.5) on the new hard drive.  I was able to swap the old and new hard drives to get the laptop to boot into Vista (old HDD) or Win 7 (new HDD).
I now get a message using the new HDD that if I want to synch my iPhone, it will delete the content on the phone and it will synch with the new iTunes on the new hard drive.
I don't want to do that.  What I want to do is backup the phone to iTunes on the new hard disk and add another album which I am trying to rip and import from CD (subject of another question in the iTunes forum).
    2) the last iCloud backup was in January (using the old hard disk).  When I try to do an iCloud backup on the new hard disk, it is telling me it will take 20 hours !!!
I have backed up the phone to my pc using the iTunes installation on the new hard drive.
For both questions, the old hard drive is non-bootable - Windows Vista has scr*wed up and although I can browse the files and folders on the drive when I use it as an external HDD, when I swap it into my laptop, Windows boots to a black screen with an arrow cursor and won't do anything else (and no, it won't boot into Safe Mode either, nor will Windows Recovery Centre sort it out) - sad times!
Any help gratefully received. Treat me as a 'noob' and please give any instructions in clear, step-by-step manner (assuming complete ignorance on my part).
    Thanks in advance,
    RB

  • TS3992 I started an icloud backup and it said it was going to take 65 hours... are you kidding me?

I started my first iCloud back up this weekend and it said estimated time is 65 hours. I don't have that amount of time to keep it in one place connected to the same WiFi. I do have to leave my house at some point. I need help!

You'll have to wait till it downloads much further than. If your download says it will take 14 hours to download, you have a very slow connection. You would never be able to watch the movie until it downloads completly.

  • How long is icloud backup restore supposed to take?

I backed up my stuff to icloud and restored backup to get everything back on my iPod again. Well that was yesterday afternoon and now it's Christmas in the morning and still nothing is on my iPod except my contacts. My over 1,000 photos and 4 apps plus messages and small are not there. Is this normal? Says my iPod 4g is 3.6 GB

It can take many hours. It depends upon your network speed and server load. The server load may be high because many new Apple devices are being setup today.
Thanks for not using all caps this time

  • HT1766 I started a iCloud backup of my iPhone last night before I went to bed and when I woke up it said 15 hours remaining and stayed that way for over an hour and has not changed

I started a icloud backup of my iphone last night before I went to bed as I was told at the apple store yesterday that it could take up to 3 hours to backup.  When I woke up this morning it was still going and said 15 hours remaining.  After an additional hour or so the screen still read 15 hours remaining.  I need to understand how I am suppose to backup the device to icloud without having to take this long as I cannot be without my phone for an entire day or longer due to work requirements.

If you're in recovery mode, all data is ALREADY lost.  You've no choice but to restore.

  • HT1438 About how long should an ICloud backup take?

About how long should an ICloud backup take?

Well, it went from 8 to 10 to 12 to 18 to 22 hours...then it stopped and said can't restore from icloud. I guess I'll give itunes a shot.

  • HT201317 I have over 300 photos and 87 videos on my iphone 5.  each time I plug in for battery I get a message saying not enough space, need to buy more, so I did yesterday.  While attempting to do icloud storage again it said would take 83 hours.

I have over 300 photos and 87 videos. When I recharge the battery I am geting the message to buy more storage to because not enough icloud space.  So I did yesterday.  That went ok, but the new message tells me it will take 83 hours.  Perplexed I went thru the settings and turned off apps and their data that I didn't realize where on.  Now I'm not sure if I needed to purchase more storage but it is still taking forever to complete the task.  Am I on the right track with this, meaning will take forever to store all my photos or what ?  The only other item I have on to store is contacts.  Can you assist me ?  Thanks - emoslim

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first back up to iCloud may take some considerable time. Just how long isn't really possible to say without knowing how much is in your back up and your connection speed.
What many people don't realise is that upload speeds are often significantly less than download speeds, so for example a user may have a download speed of 40 Mbps, but only 1 Mbps for uploading. As a rough guide it will take around 2 ¼ hours to upload 1 GB of data at 1 Mbps.

You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)

  • ICloud backup takes forever and failed systematically on iPad 2 OS 5

    Hello
iCloud backup hasn't work on my iPad 2 OS 5 since early January. It doesn't seem to try to backup automatically, mormif it does it probably fails, and when I launch the backup manually it starts correctly and estimates backup time will be 3 hours. But even if my iPad is connected to WiFi, locked and plugged in during 8 hours or more, the backup still seems to be in progress but when the bar is almost full like if it was about to end the backup it suddenly stops and I got the message Backup Failed..it's very frustrating..
I've setup correctly my iPad and iTunes to backup with iCloud, the estimated storage volume is 3 GB, is it the reason why it fails?
Back up works on my iPhone 4 but if I can't back up and sync with iPad it's not cool...
    Thanks for your help!
    Fred

    Hi,
I had the exact same problem. Ipad2, IOS5, 15GB on iCloud, very slow backup which fails after a long time, last backup december 1st. The same with manual backup starts.
What I did: made the backup content as small as possible. I had several GBs of books and magazine in FileApp, iBooks and apps like these. I chose not to be backed up these. The backup size was much more smaller than the remaining space on my iCloud account. I didn't sart the backup manually, instead I waited for the automatic backup. Checked after 3 hours and the backup was finally made succesfully.
One more thing, it's important for automatic backup to start to load the battery, lock the screen (and be on wifi).
I suspect that this issue is connected to too big backup size BEFORE buying the 10+ GBs. The iCloud account or the iPad itself doesn't recognize all the space you have in iCloud if you - at some point in the past - tried to upload too much data.
