ICloud backups much smaller than usual

I've had an iphone of every generation since the 4. I've been using icloud backups ever since the option was available and the cloud went online. All phones have always been 32gig models. Every iPhone backup over icloud since I can remember has taken up  between 3.6 and the allowable free 5 gigs, depending on how full I keep my texts and how often I delete them. Cam roll is not included in backups. I've had to use restore from icloud many times and always with success, including what I'm getting at: A few weeks ago, I had my 5s replaced on a warranty issue, and the backup resored over wifi at the apple store without issue. It was much faster than it used to be, but continued throughout the day with me being able to use the phone. The apple tech who replaced my phone said the restoration process if much faster now and everything was normal. When I got home, I synced all my music and pics from itunes on my imac as usual after a backup restore, then deleted my old icloud backup and set my new phone to backup auto overnight as usual.
Well... all this backstory just to say that my new backup file is only 1.2 gigs. It was originally 800 megs but has grown from text convos. Why is it so small? I haven't changed anything in settings. Is this normal and are everyones iphone data backups smaller now because they changed their way or backing up the data or compressing it a different way? I'm certainly not complaining.. I love it.. but i am concerned that all my usual data is not being backed up.
Thanks for any input I receive and sorry for the long winded explanation.

  • Printed type much smaller than screen type

I'm working on a Sawtooth G4 running OS 9.2.2. When I print (SimpleText, Word, Excel) the printed type is much smaller than the designated screen size. For instance, if I print 24-point type, it comes out about 14 or 12. If I print 12, it's about six- or seven-point.
The only application not affected is QuarkXPress 4.0.
    I'm running ATM Deluxe 4.6.1.
    Ideas?

That suggets the wrong driver, or wrong configuration in the right driver.
    What printer is this, please?
Has it ever worked properly and does it have the maker's latest drivers for OS 9?
Does it make ny difference what font is used?
Does the same text still shrink in Word and not in XPress if it's typed in one then pasted into the other?

  • Why are the backups to iCloud much smaller than those to my PC?  I subscribed to extra iCloud space expecting for the backups to be the same size.  Now I have more unused iCloud space I don't need, can I get a refund?

Backups to my PC were almost 30 G bytes each time,  backup to the Icloud is only 1.4 G bytes.  Expecting the backups to be about the same size I subscribed to extra Icloud space.  Can I stop my Icloud pace subscription amd get a refund?  I have all this extra space and have no use for it.  It does not appear there is a way to use this space for other storage purposes.

You can't merge iCloud backups.  You could create a current backup of your phone, then restore the backup of your old phone to it and save any data you want to keep, the restore it again to the current backup.  Some of your old recovered data could then be synced back to your new phone (such as photos), but other data cannot (such as text message conversations).  You may not want to save any of your old data but restoring the backup would be the only way to see what's there.

  • Why is my iCloud camera roll backup much larger than my camera roll?

    Hi,
I recently reached my iCloud backup limit and was looking for things to get rid of to improve this, after deleting a load of photos I had a bit more space, but checking the backup of my camera roll compared to the actual camera roll size on my iPhone the two are massively different - on the phone it says 4.8GB, whereas on the backup it says 7.8GB! Is there a reason for this? I have backed up since deleting the photos by the way, so that's not the issue.
    Thanks in advance.

Never mind, I found another discussion with the answer, I just turned camera roll off in my backup and then backed up before turning it back on and backing up again - it seems the backup was keeping the old photos for some reason.

  • Why is the sparse bundle so much smaller than the backed up computer...can I be confident all files are backed up?

    Hey gang,
iphoto folder became big so I have moved it to an external drive. I made sure the external disk is not excluded from timemachine backup in tm preferences. Backup seemed to take forever (it actually said "preparing for backup" the whole time with a spinning progress bar) ie 24 hours and still the same pogress bar.
i stopped the process as i had no confidence anything was actually happening
When i open up time machine, an earlier version of my imac is there, but the external drive is kind of greyed and i cannot access it.
When  I check the sparse bundle size, it is under 200 gb, when my imac is around 600 gb, 900 with the external drive.
Why is the sparse bundle so small relative to the imac? are there hidden data files outside of the sparse bundle? when checking the preferences, it states total included is 921 gb...yet that is not reflected in the sparse bundle size.
I want to be sure iphoto is actually backed up before deleting it from my imac.
    thanks anyone!

I am wondering whether the "processing" progress bar was due to the time capsule freeing up space for the additional data on the new external drive. When I cancelled it, available space on the tc incresed from 200 to 500 gb.
Yes, quite possibly.  Especially on Leopard and Snow Leopard, that process on network backups is excruciatingly repetitive and slow.    It's improved greatly in Lion and later, but still isn't exactly quick.
The backup complete, i checked the contents of the backed up version of the external drive, and the iphoto folder was the same size as original, so I have confidence that iphoto is backed up. Now I could delete the iphoto from the imac, freeing up tons of space.
    Yay!
Still curious why the imac sparsebundle is only 160gb, while my macbook pro sparsebundle is about 700 gb...as though they are inversely named from the computers they back up.
Oh, I didn't realize you had two Macs backing-up to the TC.  Which one is the external HD connected to?
Unless you've specifically excluded things, after the initial backup, the sparse bundle should be nearly the size of the data it's backing-up (TM does exclude some things like system work files, most caches and logs, and trash, so the backups are a few GBs smaller).  As you do more backups, of course, it will grow.
So please clarify how much data is on each drive, Mac, and sparse bundle.
Also, the 2tb time capsule has 258 gb of 1.8 tb available....am I to suppose that there is hidden backup data not in the sparse bundles?
Sparse bundles are odd critters.  They don't automatically shrink when things are deleted from them.  Instead, the vacated space is used for new files until it's full, then it begins to grow again.  Time Machine will "compact" them when necessary, to reclaim the empty space, but doesn't take the time to do it unless it's out of room.
You can do that manually if you want, per the pink box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #12.

  • Why is the Log Area size much smaller than the log volume

I have been following up on an Early Watch report that has been generated for our production SCM 5.0 system running liveCache 7.6.02 Build 14.  The alert says "The LOG volumes size in your system is too small. Recommendation: Configure LOG Volumes to at least 2 GB".  There are two interesting things about this.
    1) I have spent the last couple of days reading all the OSS Notes, and MaxDB documentation I could find, and this does not seem to be documented as a recommendation anywhere.  Does this seem like a realistic recommendation without taking into account the level of change actifity?
    2)  There is a single log volume allocated with size 2,097,160 KB.  In production LC10 and DBMGUI report this to be correct size under volume details, but only list the total log area size as 1,706,328 (81% of the volume size).  We have a non-production environment with exactly the same size log volume, but it reports that the log area size is 2,032,008 KB (97% of the volume).  What leads to these different amounts of wasted space, and is there any way of getting the database to start using it?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Thanks for the explaination of the reserved space for the Log Queue pages.  This does explain why there is the difference between the two.  I think we probably have our log segment size too large.  As you can see we do get occasional log queue overflows.  Do you suggest we increase the size of our log IO queue higher, and allocate more log volume space to compensate?

  • My macbook is much slower than usual

About 2 weeks ago I noticed the MacBook was running slower.  Slower starting up, and slower to start applications.  The beachball comes up more often & it will temporarily hang up mid-word, while typing an email or a web address sometimes.
2 GB RAM, Still more than 60% harddrive space open, The problem exists even when only one application is open, MacBook is 1 1/2 years old.
So...I'm wondering, could I have applications open in the background upon start-up without knowing it?
Was there a recent update that could have caused this?
And most importantly, is there a cure?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Andrew,
I did as you suggested, and I don't see any program that is using double digit percentages of the processor.  The history shows almost nothing and then huge spikes when it does anything (like go to the previous webpage, or scroll down in the document).
When I ask the computer to do pretty much anything (like update a saved a file that has one more word typed in), the spinning beach ball pops up for a minute or two.  Then other times, it will act fine for 30 minutes and then very sluggish again.
Start-up times are anywhere from 7 minutes to 30 minutes.  It used to be 1-2 minutes.  Start up hangs up most on the apple with the little circle below.
I tried rebooting the PRAM (command, option, P, R).
Thanks for any help you can offer,
    Jennifer

  • Why is installation file for Exchange Server CU7 much smaller than SP1.iso?

I was wondering why is the ISO-Image for Exchange Server 2013 with SP1 4.5 GB in size and the CU7.EXE only 1.6 GB? I thought CU7 contains everything SP1 contains. Is it because one is a disk image and an other an executable?

The EXE is compressed.  When you extract it, it should be close to the same size (probably bigger) than the SP1 iso.

  • AdobeAcrobatPro: Downloaded pdf's are much smaller than scanned ones. How to get scanned ones to be fewer px and not lose quality?

I have several accounts which post .pdf's to be downloaded. These are good quality and are small (kb) files.
I find when I scan paper documents, they have huge pixelation... and as I make them smaller, they lose readability.
I've tried to scan at 72px-300px. I've tried to save as .jpg which was then added to a .docx. I've tried to simply save as .pdf all from photoshop.
Is there a way to get the quality of a downloaded .pdf document and it's low pixelation when starting from a paper document which must be scanned?
I have a Canon CanoScan Lide 100. and I'm using Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Generally, if you want best quality you don't start with a scan. It's just a HUGE picture.
But you can try the "text recognition" feature of Acrobat ("OCR"). Be sure to experiment with the settings, they have huge effects on the result.
For OCR to work you need good quality scans of good quality originals using common fonts in an expected way (e.g. a page from a magazine).

I am currently uninstalling and reinstalling all hp software. I will clean out temp files and registry with ccleaner then reboot before reinstalling. Just thought I'd ask to see if anyone has a solution for this problem.

    Hi there david623,
If that did not work for you lets try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03275041&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.
    Best of Luck!
