ICloud Calendar Groups

Since the arrival of iCloud, iCal only allows me to create Calendar Groups on "My Mac". This feature is currently unavailable on the iCloud calendars. As a teacher, I need to create groups to manage all my different classes (just like a folder of different calendars). Before, I could uncheck my one Calendar group and everything included was removed from the calendar view. This is helpful to manage personal vs. professional life in the same app. When I now sync iCal with iCloud, my Calendar Groups are undone and all the different classes are shown as different calendars. I wish apple would look into that matter more seriously.

i see i can create a Calendar Group On My Mac only. I wonder what the trade off is between having a Calendar On My Mac vs. iCloud? i was going to move them all to iCloud, but maybe it's not necessary nor work loosing the Calendar Groups functionality.

Local calendars group disappeared - problem with saving in the local calendars group

Hello, I have been working with calendars. I wanted to add a new calendar to the iCloud calendars group or to local calendars ("On my iPhone").
I found that when I am switching off the iCloud for calendars, the iCloud calendar group disappears and don't create the local storage ("On my iPhone"). I did exactly the same on the iPhone 4S, and it created the local group. I don't know why it is different on iPhone 5, especially as I was using iOS 7.1 on both.
Has anyone else had this problem before? Do you know how to restore my calendar to the local storage?

Solved this:
Turns out that we now require at least "List" permissions for "Everyone" for the root of the partition where the User profiles reside.
This was not the case on our previous images.

Can I make a calendar group for my iCloud calendars?

I have several calendars in my iCloud account - one of which I use to keep track of my time card information at work and I have to print it out every payday. When I print that calendar I need to de-select all of the other calendars. I wanted to make a "New Calendar Group" to house the rest of them so that I could de-select all of them at once. It seems like the only place I can create a Calendar Group is "On My Mac". Am I doing something wrong?

You can do this using a meta refresh but the problem is you have to add it to the html file for the page very time you publish changes.
A better way is to create a splash page and upload it to the server outside of the folder produced by iWeb. Example HERE.
The meta refresh is added to the head section of the html file...

Tips on how to organize multiple iCloud calendars in iCal 5.0

Found some workarounds but looking for tips from others since I have not been using Lion and the new iCal very long.
Situation:
I use iCal for work and have my own calendars and manage my boss's multiple calendars. An upgrade to Lion has thrown a monkey wrench as we now have to use iCloud to have read/write access to the calendars. The new look of iCal is very cluttered with all of these entries and color coding is not enough to be easy on the eyes to differentiate what is what. The new simplified look hides the master list of calendars which acted as a legend. Now in order to figure out what calendar an entry belongs to, I have to click to reveal the list of calendars and make a guess (due to the # of calendars the colors are used more than once) or click on the item and then edit for the details. The list of calendars is not very helpful as everything is under iCloud, both mine and the boss's, with no indication as to which belongs to whom. The shared icon being visible is a clue but not that much help. A subgroup automatically created by AppleID or the ability to create an iCloud group would be very useful.
Work arounds:
Leaving the inspector open helps eliminate 1 click so now I don't have to click on edit to reveal which calendar and entry belongs to.
To make the calendar list more manageable, I manually reordered the calendars and renamed each one of my boss's calendars with their name on it.
Tips for those that have to deal with supporting someone who deletes entries without telling you:
I maintain a travel calendar for the boss and put the details of their trip (such as hotel information) into the entry but as their travel decisions are erratic, they often delete these entries when they decide not to travel for work then later notify me to cancel the hotel but the information is lost since they deleted the entry. Frustrating. I could keep a copy elsewhere, such as email, text file, etc, but I prefer the organization of a calendar. I created a duplicate calendar on my end that they do not have access to where I copy and paste each entry of their calendar into mine. This way, when they delete an entry in their calendar, I still have the trip info. I'm curious for those that deal with this sort of thing, is this the best practice? For example, is there a way to auto duplicate or create multiple entries without copy and paste? (For now, iCal does not appear to let you put the same event on multiple calendars.)
Does anyone have any other tips for organizing multiple calendars, especially in this sort of situation where you are dealing with the calendars of others? I would really like the month view or week view to be more understandable. The color coding just isn't enough. Is there a way to put the title of the calendar to appear in the entry for week/month view?

I just transfered all of my data over to iCloud today. I run a summer college program and I had all of my calendars neatly ordered on my computer under Calendar Groups - and color coded. It was a bit frustrating to see that I would not be able to organize them in this way on iCloud. I like your ideas - they were helpful. I hope they update and improve on this for us!

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

Cannot create new Calendar Group in Mountain Lion

I am using a brand new iMac. I didn't use the migration tool-- instead I exported all of my Calendars from Snow Leopard and Imported them via the File menu in the Calendar application in Mountain Lion.
Under the File menu, there is no "New Calendar Group" option. Command-Shift-N results in an error alert sound and no action.
I do not use iCloud for anything other than email-- everything is turned off in System Preferences.
In Calendar, under the Preferences -> Accounts section, I have NO accounts. It is completely blank.
My previous groups from my export/import are there under the "On My Mac" section of the Calendars panel. I can edit them. But I cannot create any new ones.
Any suggestions? Everything on the internet says I need to deactivate my iCloud account calendars... but I don't use them.

All of my calendars had been in groups. I moved one of them outside, and TA DA-- "New Calendar Group" appeared.

If the calendar is in the "On my iPhone" section of the calendar groups, then it won't sync. Only calendars in the "iCloud" section syncs to icloud. This may be your problem.

File>New Calendar to create a new calendar (Groups are for grouping calendars and I should ignore them). When you've created the calendar, control-click on it in the sidebar and choose 'Get Info' There you can select a colour. You can have as many calendars as you like. When you create a new event you can select the calendar it belongs to, and hence the colour it has.

HT4968 Change existing ical calandar group into a icloud calandar group

I am using Maverick on my mac, can I change a calendar group on my Mac to a icould group without having to individually change each event. I had been using my mac ical as my calenadar and recently added icloud. I don't want to reenter all the events just make the exisitng calandar on my mac accesible to icloud.

ICloud calendar sync problems

iCloud is setup on both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 and everything is working and syncing fine except for the calendar.
The entries i have on my iPhone are not syncing with my iPad.

I have the same problem. I would prefer to have manually synced through Itunes, but that method has corrupted my Outlook contacts groups, and added empty groups with the extension iphone_contacts. Each sync multiplies the number of these rogue groups exponentially into the hundreds. And they can oly be deleted one by one. And also causes duplicates on the phone.
I finally gave up trying to fix it and tried syncing through ICloud - great, no duplicate contacts or rogue groups, but now I have these issues in Calendar and can't accept meeting makers. When I accept them into my default Outlook Calendar, and then tried to just copy them into the ICloud calendar, it called it copy: name of meeting, and it sent a meeting maker back to the initial originator of the meeting, not just an acceptance, but actually a new meeting request. If I still had an old Palm Pilot, I'd just use that, because I do love the phone, but this is absolutely ridiculous. Any ideas?

ICal 403 Error with iCloud Family Group

Yesterday I created a Family Group using my iPhone and iOS 8. Now when we open iCal on our computers (all running OS X 10.9.4) we get the following error message:
The server responded with an error.
The server responded "403" to operation "CalDAVAccountRefreshQueableOperation
I've tried signing out of iCloud and then back in but this doesn't help. And it's happening on all our computers, one a brand new MacBook that previously had nothing on it. And it's happening across iCloud accounts.
Anyone have a solution?

I get the iCloud 403 error for some weeks now and meanwhile it is really very annoying. (both Mavericks and Yosemite, Fantastical and Apple's normal iCal)
- go to sytem pref > icloud > unchecked calendar
- remove all this files :

does NOT help. I was hoping it had something to do with iCloud drive activated in iOS and Yosemite would solve the issue, but no.
I even deleted my main iCloud calendar and the Family calendar and now I have reached a point with no further idea.
Shall I really use a Google Calendar now ? I am only dreaming this, right ?
PS: It works on iOS and the iCloud.com webpage. Creating a complete new iMAc user also does not help, the problem is the same on all my iMacs. On the same machines other users with other iCloud accounts don't have the problem.

How do I delete iCloud calendars from Outlook 2010?

I installed the iCloud control panel on my Windows 7 PC.
The results were not what I expected.
I wish to remove the iCloud calendars from Outlook. The program is not allowing me to do this.
I have already uninstalled the iCloud control panel from my PC.

I had the same problems with iCloud and this thread helped me get rid of the duplicate calendars. Thanks! Things are mostly back to normal. But even though my iCloud calendar appears to be gone, I'm now getting two reminders for every event. Any idea how to get rid of the duplicate reminders?
More info: Using Win 7 and OL 2007. The only calendar selections available are my normal calendar and my archived calendar. The events that are sending out reminders don't appear in the archived calendar. Under Other Calendars I still see a calendar group called "iCloud" but there's nothing under the title. Nothing extra shows up in Data File Management. I tried this suggestion but don't see any duplicated events:

How do i choose which icloud contact group to sync to individual iphones

There are 4 of us using my mac and we want individual icloud contact groups to our own iphones. Can we do it?

I assume you are sharing a single OSX user account and each have an individual iCloud account.
You can share different groups but it will mean that only one of you can sync photostream photos with the mac.
The way to do this is to have one of you as the primary iCloud user (with photostream) and have the remaining three users accounts added as secondary accounts in system preferences > mail, contacts and calendars.

Icloud calendar not syncing

I've added appointments to my calendar on iMac and it doesn't sync on iPhone and iPad. Same with the address book. I will change info on one of my devices and it doesn't change on the others. I checked in System Preferences under iCloud, both calendar and address book are selected. Same with devices.
Any other things I should be doing? Or where can I find more troublehshooting tips. Thanks.

Calendar Groups?

I updated to OSX 10.8.4 (from 10.6.8) and all my calendars are now under iCloud instead of "On My Mac". The calendar groups I had sorted everything are now gone and there doesn't seem to be any way to create Calendar Groups in iCloud. Is there no way to do this? If not, is it possible to move my calendars back to "On My Mac".
I'm pretty upset about this because all my well-organized scheduling information is now a huge mess. I thought iCloud was supposed to be convenient...

I know that users have complained about losing the ability to make groups in "iCloud" a year or so ago. Unless things have changed lately, I suspect that is still the case.
