ICloud Contact and Calendar Services on Snow Leopard, etc.

A solution to the problem on Snow Leopard and Leopard is Soho Organizer, support for contacts and calendars, plus a few other features ...
A word on iCloud...
October 19, 2011 We just released SOHO Organizer 9.1.8 which adds support for iCloud calendars and iCloud contacts. Simply choose SOHO Organizer > Preferences > Accounts and create a new a account for iCloud calendars and/or iCloud contacts. Your calendars and contacts will show up in SOHO Organizer and any changes you make in SOHO Organizer are instantly reflected in iCloud and other devices that sync to iCloud. You can delete any MobileMe accounts you've created in SOHO Organizer at the same time you create the iCloud accounts. If you're a MobileMe customer, then you'll first need to follow Apple's instructions for "moving" your MobileMe calendars and contacts to iCloud. There are two important things you'll want to know about BEFORE doing this. First, you'll no longer be able to use MobileMe for syncing other types of information like notes from SOHO Notes (more on this below) between computers. Second, your contacts that were previously stored locally on your computer and used by Apple's Address Book application will be moved to iCloud. Apple has chosen to implement iCloud contacts as a CardDAV server which is great news since your contacts are now stored in the cloud using CardDAV just like your calendars are stored in the cloud using CalDAV. This basically eliminates contact syncing via Apple's Sync Services technology. Now any of your applications or devices can just access and sync to the contacts in iCloud directly. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you move your MobileMe data to iCloud, you'll no longer be able to sync data between your computers using MobileMe. This presents a problem for SOHO Notes since it uses Apple's Sync Services technology which uses MobileMe to sync between multiple computers. As you've probably heard, Apple will permanently shut down MobileMe on June 30, 2012. However, if move to iCloud today, it effectively shuts down MobileMe for you today. This means you won't be able to sync SOHO Notes between multiple computers. We're currently working on an iCloud syncing solution for SOHO Notes that will support syncing notes between multiple computers and devices but we don't yet have a release date for it. We think it's still probably two to three months away.
And for those of you using Windows (XP thru 7)

    I can't get the iCloud Contacts and Calendar folders to appear in Outlook 2010 using the iCloud Control Panel.  Also the datafile share which ends in .aplzod is not created in Outlook.  The Contacts and Calendar are sent to iCloud (verified on iCloud.com) but the iCloud folders are not created in Outlook in the Contacts and Calendar navigation panes.   I get a message toward the end of the sync process indicating that there was an unspecified error.  I'm using the newest version of the iCloud Control Panel, the 32 bit version of Outlook 2010, Windows 7 64 bit, an iPhone 3GS, and the latest version of iTunes.  Any ideas how to complete the sync process to the end?

    Pretty much the same for me: Windows 7 64-bit, Outlook 2010, iCloud Control Panel 1.0.1, iPhone 3GS.  Error report at end of setup process is shown below, and has been emailed.  Any help please?

  • How can I add my icloud contacts and calendar back to my iphone?

    As of last week, my iCloud contacts and calendar disappeared from my iPhone 4S. I was trying to do something with adding Outlook to my PC to access calendars for my children's school, and now I cannot get my iCloud contacts as a group (tried turning setting off then back on in Settings) and my iCloud calendar doesn't show up (tried turning this off then back on in Settings also - won't add it back) on my iPhone (iCloud account is intact on PC). It's as if iCloud isn't even an option any longer. PLEASE HELP!!

    Hello sstoller,
    It sounds like you now have no iCloud Contacts or Calendar information on your iPhone.
    There are articles for each I'd recommend checking out.
    Get help using iCloud Contacts
    iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar
    They both have troubleshooting sections to step through.
    Best regards,
    Nubz

  • Contacts and Calendar Services Broken

    I have a new build of Mountain Lion Server 10.8.2 and am having problems with the Contacts and Calendar services.
    The server is an Open Directory Master.
    I did this build by installing Mountain Lion 10.8 on a new hard drive. I had no interest in migrating any data except for the Open Directory, so I created an Open Directory archive to restore from with the new build. I then removed the old Lion Server boot drive and installed the Mountain Lion Server drive, then installed Server app. I moved the data stores to the RAID before starting any services.
    DNS, DHCP, File Sharing, FTP, Mail, Messages, NetInstall, Profile Manager, Software Update, Time Machine, VPN, Websites and Wiki all work normally. I also use Portable Home Directories. I've only dabbled a bit with Mail, Profile Manager and Wiki, but I have not encountered any problems with them. I use the other services rather heavily. Everything is working great except Contacts and Calendar.
    sudo changeip -checkhostname returns:
    Primary address     = 10.0.0.2
    Current HostName    = myserver.mydomain.private
    DNS HostName        = myserver.mydomain.private
    The names match. There is nothing to change.
    dirserv:success = "success"
    In the Server app both Contacs and Calendars turn on and appear to be working. I have the self-signed certificate created by the sever app assigned to the services. I am unable to log in clients to either Contacts or Calendar service via browser or through iCal or Contacs apps. The apps first notify that a secure connection is not possible. Then when I proceed I get authentication failures, even though the credentials are correct. Removing the certificate from the services has no improvement.
    When I run "sudo serveradmin fullstatus calendar" I get the following output:
    calendar:setStateVersion = 1
    calendar:logPaths:LogFile = "/var/log/caldavd/access.log"
    calendar:logPaths:ErrorLog = "/var/log/caldavd/error.log"
    calendar:state = "RUNNING"
    calendar:servicePortsAreRestricted = "NO"
    calendar:servicePortsRestrictionInfo = _empty_array
    calendar:readWriteSettingsVersion = 1
    Examining /var/log/caldavd/error.log I find this interesting message:

    It seems as though upon setting the data store to the RAID that not all the necessary directories and files were created for the Contacts and Calendar services. Is there a way to create them new? Remember, there is no Contact or Calendar data to save. I am starting with a clean slate.
    Assuming the problem lies with the missing directories in my data store location, is there a way to either create the missing directories & files, or just rebuild the two servieces from scratch?

    Back up all files.
    Quit the Server application and drag it to the Trash, but don't empty. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to stop all services. You won't lose any server data.
    Put the app back where it was and launch it. Test.

    I can log into ICloud and see my contacts and my calendar.  My iPhone works with iCloud just fine.
    However, Outlook 2013 doesn't know iCloud has a calendar or contacts and I cannot access them. I have tried to add my iCloud contact file to Outlook 2013 but i must not be doing that correctly. I have tried to add my ICloud calendar file to outlook 2013 but i must not be doing that correctly either,  In Outlook 2013, when I click on either the "Calendar" or "People" at the bottom of the Outlook screen, what comes up is blank, no contacts, no calendar items.  I can long into iCloud and see the calendar and contacts just fine.
    Surely, someone must know how to get this to work. I must not be adding the contact file or calendar file correctly in the Outlook 2013 Account Settings.  I cannot find any place where it discusses these settings.  I have tried to add them as https://www.icloud.com/#contacts or #calendar.  That has not worked.  Can anyone explain to me what I have to do to get these two products to communicate with each other?
    Gary

    I have to say that I have gone through this setup several times by removing the check items on the icloud control panel and rechecking them and it accomplished nothing.  This time when I opened up the icloud control panel, the calendar item was unchecked.  Don't know why.  I checked it and it went through a process of moving a few thousand items into outlook.  When I opened outlook, my contacts and calendar items were there.
    Thank you for the guidance.  I have contacts and calendar items available now.  Great news.

    Someone may help me?. Do you need more logs?

    Back up all files.
    Quit the Server application and drag it to the Trash, but don't empty. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to stop all services. You won't lose any server data.
    Put the app back where it was and launch it. Test.

  • Taking FOREVER to sync contacts and calendar with 3G, Itunes8, Leopard

    I recently switched from the original iPhone to the 3G model. No problems. Happy with the phone. I also recently "upgraded" to iTunes 8.0. Not happy.
    I have about 500 contacts on my computer (running iCal and MS Entourage) and hundreds of appointments in my calendar. It used to take maybe 10 min to sync my phone and macbook pro. now it has been running 45 min and is STILL synching the calendar.
    what the heck is going on? anyone else having this problem? Also, I recently (yesterday) upgraded to 10.5.5 but this was happening on 10.5.4 also.
    I'm stumped, and I haven't got time to look at this stupid "synch" message all day.
    thanks
    dc

    Any way I can sync contacts and calendar between the imac and laptop on the same home network without using icloud
    Not unless you upgrade the iMac to Lion v10.7.2 first.

  • Using iCloud Contacts and Calendar as default in Outlook

    Is there any anway I could use iCloud for seamlessly syncing contacts and calendar between my IPhone and my PC's Outlook and also my Outlook.com??? I have already managed to sync seamlessly between Outook and iCloud but if I search a contact or event on my search Windows they do not look on the iCloud contacts or calendar, and if I also add a new contact or event, it will be added directly onto the Outlook default calendar and address book, which means it wont be added automatically to the iCloud folders, is there anyway this can be don automatically?????
    thank you!

    Microsoft only allows Exchange and Local calendars to be the default, you can't have what you want.

  • Creating a versatile DNS and redirection service on Snow Leopard Server

    For the few of us who use Snow Leopard Server as a main DNS for our small network, the following is a workflow that I would like to share with the board for creating redirection services to not just sites found on the locally hosted apache but also external sites.
    +IF you are adding a second domain name, the reverse domain lookup will not appear and you will need to add a Machine/A record with the fully qualified domain "domainname.com." (don't forget the . at the end) into the new zone and it will point to the "server" Machine/A record ip address.+
    *DNS Portion* : (ServerAdmin > DNS > Zones >
    Add Zone > Primary > Create a fully Qualified Domain name and dns "server" in the Machine / A Record
    Create the (add Record > Alias/ CNAME) subdomain pointing to the server.domainname.com e.g. (library)
    *Web / Apache Portion :*
    Create a new site (ServerAdmin > Web > Sites > Plus button)
    With General > host name exactly as spelled in above subdomain in full (library.domainname.com)
    Select Web Folder where the site is hosted
    If you are creating a redirection, create a folder on the server, add an index.php (with the script below)
    Add Alias with the same subdomain as number 2
    _PHP script :_
    <?php
    $location = "http://example.net";
    header("Location: ".$location, "301 Moved Permanently");
    ?>
    // Edit the "http://example.net" to which ever e.g. "http://apple.com"
    _Alternatively you can also mask the page with :_
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Same Title As Your Homepage</title><!-->incase they have javascript turned off<!-->
    <script type="text/javascript"><!-->changes title bar to match title on current page in frame<!-->
    function changeTitle()
    if (top.frames['main'].document.title)
    top.document.title=top.frames['main'].document.title;
    </script>
    </head>
    <frameset>
    <frame name="main" src="http://actual-url.anotherhost.com/page.html"scrolling="auto" target="main" ONLOAD="changeTitle();"><!-->You need the onload handler to make the javascript work<!-->
    <noframes>
    <body>
    Place a suitable message here for people with browsers that can't read frames.
    </body>
    </noframes>
    </frameset>
    </html>

    Ok, local DNS services (unicast DNS) are typically straightforward to set up, very useful to have, and can be necessary for various modern network services, so I'm unsure why this is even particularly an open question.  Which leads me to wonder what other factors might be under consideration here; of what I'm missing.
    The Bonjour mDNS stuff is certainly very nice, too.  But not everything around supports Bonjour, unfortunately.
    As for being authoritative, the self-hosted out-of-the-box DNS server is authoritative for its own zone.  That's how DNS works for this stuff.
    And as for querying other DNS servers from that local DNS server (or, if you decide to reconfigure it and deploy and start using DNS services on your LAN), then that's how DNS servers work.
    And yes, the caching of DNS responses both within the DNS clients and within the local DNS server is typical.  This also means that there is need no references to ISP or other DNS servers on your LAN for frequent translations; no other caching servers and no other forwarding servers are required.

  • What is the best practice to move from Outlook 2010 to icloud. I want to sync primarily contacts and calendars.

    I would like to move from Outlook 2010 (originally on Exchange) to icloud, however I read lots of bad experiences about this.  Has anyone developed a good practice procedure for this?  I primarily want to sync Outlook 2010 calendar and contacts with a cloud service and my iphone.  I currently use a Dell latitude PC, outlook 2010, have upgraded to iOS 5 on an iphone 3GS (soon to be an 4GS).

    I was trying to find the answer to this myself.
    I found it.
    Use iCloud Control Panel for Windows: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455
    I found that you don't need to create separate iCloud contact and calendar folders before installing this, it does that for you (in fact, you can't choose what these new folders are called, or where they go, but I guess you're unlikely to have anything else in your Outlook named "iCloud" before you start.)

  • My iCloud for windows is syncing email and notes with my MS Outlook 2013 on windows 8 but NOT contacts and calendar

    Dear, I have downloaded and installed iCloud for windows and see that a user has been auto setup in my MS Outlookvia imap. I can now sync email and notes.I cannot sync icloud contacts and calendar with my MS Outlook, can you help me with this?

    iCloud hosts the calendars on its server and your various computers read them from there. The protocol for doing this is called CalDAV.
    Outlook for Mac has not been equipped with the programming for CalDAV and therefore cannot access iCloud calendars. Outlook for Windows evidently has and can.
    This is something only Microsoft can rectify and you could send them feedback suggesting they do this with all convenient speed.
    Outlook on a Mac can only access calendars living under 'On My Mac' and these cannot sync with iCloud. iCal can sync with iCloud provided you have 1-.7.2 or higher.

  • Contacts and Calendar Server, Pointless?

    Hello!
    MLS N00B here, not really much experience with ML Server. Only had it a few weeks, and the new Profile Managaer instead of WGM thing really messed me around, seems unstable and a little too new.
    Anyway. Todays discussion comes in the shape of Contacts and Calendar server. What are they actually for?
    Profile Manager pushed a payload to all users (by default) so they know where the calendar and contacts server is. This seems to be a side effect of activating the services in the Server app. However, the client computers don't actually seem to use them in any way.
    No contacts, not even the Directory contacts (searching via directory is enabled) are visible in the Contacts app. Nothing 'network' based in calendars either.
    Group calendars are also a mystery to me.
    My question is. Where would you create a 'Group' based contact list, or a 'Group' specific calendar? and make them available automagically (using PM) to all users within that group?
    I've tried creating Wiki specific calendars and assigning the correct groups and permissions, but I can't see how I'd get them in to iCal. I've even tried adding extra iCal payloads to the groups in PM and using the URL field - still nothing.
    Any help is welcome, thanks guys

    The 'server' Contacts and Calendars services in OS X server don't work the way you would expect — like the functionality you would see on a server app like Microsoft Exchange. That is that various users can have shared resources and/or you have server owned resources that you then make available to users/groups with individual, fine-grained permissions.
    You can have 'shared' server Contacts &amp; Calendars in OS X Server but what you have to do is setup a (dedicated) user account on which you then create various calendars and address book(s). Then in the Calendar &amp; Contacts apps on OS X and iOS you make accounts on the clients and use that pseudo account on the server as the account — not each individual users' account on the server. So each (real) user 'shares' the pseudo user's account with, obviously, full read-write access.
    It ain't beautiful... but it works.

  • Yosemite OS 10.10 Broke Syncing of Contacts and Calendars

    I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10 on my Mac Book Pro and now my iCloud Contacts and Calendar do not sync between my MBP, iPhone 6, and iPad. My iPhone is on iOS 8.1 and my iPad is on 8.0.2. I updated a contact on my iPhone today and the change didn't sync to my other devices.
    My Contact and Calendars have been correctly syncing via iCloud for quite a while, now, nothing works.
    Apple - basic functions like this need to always work.

    This would be a reason for me not to upgrade.

  • Best way to move Mail, Contacts, and Calendars

    I'm adding an additional server to my network to distribute some of my services and I would like to move the mail, contacts, and calendar services to this new server. It will be a ML machine running 10.8.5 with Server 2.2.1. I have these services already running on another server also running ML 10.8.5 and server 2.2.1.
    What's the best way to move the data between these two machines? Any suggestion are greatly appreciated!

    Mail: mailboxes from /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mail can be moved using command line
    - Note the correspondence between mailbox folder name(hexadecimal) and user name, can be extracted using Directory tool)
    - Also if u want to have the same username - hexa key maybe you should export the OD. Personally I would just rename old folder to new hexa key)
    - Do not forget to also check(mimic) the folder group/owner rights
    Calendar&Contacts: Use Export and Import.
    I honestly think this are the best ways (fast&clean).
    Also I think they are safe, mail 100% is transferred and for Calendar&Contacts I am not aware of any data that can be lost during export-import.
    (of course you can also replicate your server using DiskUtility create new image, and then deactivate unwanted services)
