ICloud Contacts duplicates first name

I list my family and close friends by their first names only in my Contacts, leaving the surname field blank.
Contacts has now started to duplicate their first names into the surname field, so that my wife's entry reads "Fiona Fiona" and my daughter's entry is "Sophie Sophie".
No matter how many times I change the entry, either on my iPhone or on my Air, the first name keeps appearing in the surname field too.
Is Contacts unable to deal with entries containing only a first name?
Has anyone else experienced this?

I fixed my problem with it.  I went to my Mac and it was in the Mail app.
Open Mail
From the menu bar select Window
Select Previous Recipients
I found the culprit in there.  I don't know how the name got to be the way it was in the first place but I took it out of there and it fixed it.  It stopped messing up my contacts.
Hope this helps.

  • Contacts display first name, last name, except if there's email address then contact info is deleted (?) and email is displayed in contact list.

Confused on these procedures to post.
My contacts should list first name last name, however any contact with an email has info phone numbers and addresses deleted and the email address is displayed in contact list. I know how to change to last name first name but that doesn't help... Any suggestions? Should I delete all contacts and reacquire all through icloud? How?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Attempting 1st time sync and software duplicates first name as middle name

I am attempting my 1st sync between my Blackberry Pearl 8130 device and my Microsoft Outlook.  When I do this the software is automatically duplicating the first name of many of my contacts and then proceeding to add the same first name to the middle name as well.  Is there a way for me to synchronize my Blackberry device without adding these incorrect duplicate middle names?  If not, is there a simple way to edit anything in the synchronization process, and if so how?
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, but this script will result in the format "John Quincy"
I need a script that will result in the following format: "John Q.".
The script will need to extract the middle initial (first character) of the "EMP_MiddleName" field.

  • Sort Contacts by [First Name, Last Name] on Phone

I currently have all of my contacts in Outlook saved and "Filed As" First Name, Last Name. When I go to sync with the phone (through iTunes), the phone still shows all my contacts sorted as Last Name, First Name. I have tried deleting my contacts completely several times to no avail. I am so used to searching by first name first. Can someone please help?
BTW, I did try searching the forum first. Most threads discuss the use of Address Book, which seems to provide a solution. I have not found any solutions to this problem using Outlook though.
    Thanks,
    Brian

On the iPhone, go into settings/Mail Contacts Calendar and choose sort order under "contacts" as "first, last".

  • View of Contacts surname, first name NOT first name, surname

Required is the view of contacts with surname, first name.
This is impossible to adjust and a No-Go for business.

While that is currently not possible in the contact listing view, it could be updated in a future upgrade. I hope it will be.

  • List contacts by first name

I want my contacts to be listed by first name on my iphone but they are listed by last name. Is there a way to change this so all of my contacts are alphabetized by first name?

  • Search Contacts by First Name (Nokia 6124)

We have users with Nokia 6124 with contacts sorted in First Name order. Is there anyway of searching by first name rather than last name?

    Hi Inekar,
I've bought the phone in replacement of my Blackberry. I was gone buy another BB but then had this N97 in my hands and i must say that this phone is amazing.  When i see what this phone can do for our business. Exchange, office applications, pdf, gps, ....  So for me it is a real must to have in business.  To buy this phone as private person to play around is a waste of money.  But of course you're right also that this phone is 100% multimedia.

  • Nokia 8800 contact in first name sequence only?

I'm able to sync my Nokia 8800 with my powerbook, but is the contact order in first name sequence only? Is there any way to arrange it in Last Name basis?
Thanks in advance for your help.

i just noticed that of my 462 contacts, about 90% of them have the first name in the last name box and vice versa. i input each one of the contacts and have synced several times between my iphone, gmail and my 4 mac computers. i have seen that you can sort by first name or last name, but this is not a sorting issue. the first and last names have physically switched locations. i noticed this so i turned off mobile me and it did not sync with my iPhone. i think i will have to just reload the contacts on the one computer but i still don't understand what happened.

  • How can I sort iCloud contacts by Business Name?

I'm trying to use my phone for business. How can I sort my phone contacts in iCloud by Business Name, not First/Last or Last/First. Their needs to be selections for the business user.  More fields.  I don't want to bastardize my contact list right from the start. Did I buy the wrong phone?

The best app out there (to sort by COMPANY NAME) that nobody knows of is  called "EasyContacts". Be sure to search for it was written in the app  store. It is money well spent. Every person I show this app to decides  to buy it. I use Card Scan still to scan business cards and then export  the contacts to Outlook. I then sync my iPhone via iTunes to read my  Outlook contacts. PERFECTION!!

  • ICloud Contacts duplicates difficulty

I have a desktop, iPad and iPhone that I had working beautifully together until I got my iPhone5. In hindsight, I think that it was a mistake to synch the phone to my desktop but I was not getting everything to come through the Cloud. After I did that, the first thing that I noticed that Birthdays were duplicated in my Contacts on the desktop. When I open my desktop Contacts, there is a list "On My Mac" and another duplicated list "iCloud". It is also duplicated this way on the iPad but the phone only has one list. The groups are also outdated....I have spent a LOT of time bringing them up to date by hand because I do not know why a) they aren't right and b) what to do about it. It is a nuisance to have 2 sets of groups in my contacts on my iPad in particular, and I am not sure which one I should be using if I want to edit a contact. I understand the iCloud in general but do not have enough knowledge as far as the back up features go etc. Should I not ever synch my devices to my desktop if I use iCloud? How can I correct this so that I have one set of groups on my desktop & iPad? HELP!!!!

  • Nano 'Contacts' - Surname, First Name

Hi, I've managed to export my Windows Contacts to my Nano, using "iPodSync" after problems using the itunes prog, but they've come through as 'Bill Smith' when the way I want them displayed (and the way I have them in Outlook) is 'Smith, Bill' (the itunes prog did this also). Anyone know if it's possible to display them the way I want. Thx in anticipation

On iPod, go to Settings > Contacts menu. You'll be able to select to display and sort contacts by either First, Last or Last, First.

  • Imported contacts have last name/first name reversed

When I had my old Samsung dumb phone, I listed all my contacts by last name.  (There was a single name field in the old phone, so I listed everybody as "Smith, Bob.")  But when I had my contacts list imported into my new iphone 5c, it read all the last names as first names and vice versa.  (It put "Smith," in the first name field and "Bob" in the last name field.)  I know I can choose to sort contacts by last name or first name.  But when I choose "Last, First" it lists all my contacts by first name.  So now when I enter a new contact directly into the iphone, it's backwards from everything else.
What am I supposed to do here?  Am I just supposed to keep entering contacts backwards for as long as I have this phone?  Or is there some sort of app or setting to fix this?

  • IOS changes contact from sorted by company to first name when edit is hit

Can anyone tell me how to stop iOS from changing to sort by name when edit is hit?
Scenario:  Contact has first name, last name and company.  In OSX I hit edit and check the company box.  The contact now sorts by company name.  I then go into iOS to that same contact and hit edit and then done.  The contact now sorts by name and there is no way to undo this that I can find in iOS.  There is no company check box and iOS defaults to sort by name automatically.  Which means that any information I edit on my iphone or ipad will get miscatagorized by simply tapping the edit key.
    Help!!!

I would ask, why are you going into the same contact in iOS if you have already edited it in OS X? But then, I digress.
True, there is only two settings for sorting contacts in iOS, Last Name or First name. The same as display. When you have a name and Company, it will only sort by name.
You can provide feedback to Apple if you would like to see this feature change by going to www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

  • Birthday calendar on iCloud sort by last name first name like my contacts

birthday calendar on iCloud sort by last name first name like my contacts

Curiously, the most recently inputted entries do sort properly, as do all company entries.
Does that mean "most recently inputted" AFTER you upgraded to Snow Leopard?
If that is true, it would mean that something about your existing records before the upgrade, for the records that are people contacts (with first and last names) instead of business contacts, do not agree with Snow Leopard and/or Snow Leopard's version of Address Book.
This may not be feasible, but if you exported the records with this problems and then imported them, maybe they will be re-inputted so that are properly sorted.
If you use Time Machine, maybe you can use the +flying through space+ interface to restore one of the records with this problem to see if the restore process makes the record sort properly.
