Icloud deleted contacts?!

I just upgrade from MobileMe to Icloud. My calendar is working fine. However, almost 98% of my contacts have disappeared - both on my iPhone4 and my icloud.com contacts.
How do I get my contacts back, please?

On your iPhone tap Settings > iCloud
Toggle Contacts off then back on then restart the iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

ICloud deleted contacts from 4s

I have managed to lose all of my contacts from my 4s whilst setting up my old 3gs for my girlfriend, I inserted her sim and my contacts were still there, I began to delete my contacts from this phone, it was after I had done this I noticed that all of my contacts that were on my 4s had been deleted and replaced with her contacts. It now appers that her contacts are in the cloud as my original contacts have just been replaced on my iPad with her contacts. Is there any way of retrieving my contacts?

I had a similar problem a few times, and usually after a while they just kind of come back for no reason. I am searching for a way restore them immediately, but I just haven't figured out how yet. But definitely pugging in your phone and restoring it with the iCloud, on the computer you usually upload to, does help.

ICloud deleted 1/2 my contacts...how can I get them back?

After having an iPhone since its inception... I've never had any problems migrating contacts. Now, I turned on iCloud contact sync for the first time today to test it out... only 105 of my 2 or 300 contacts show up now, I've tried restarting the phone, turning contact sync on and off, looking at the iCloud website to see if the full list is there (it's not), restoring SIM contacts (didn't change anything), and now I'm trying to restore an iTunes backup from a month or so ago (who knows if that will work...) Why is this such a headache? Why does iCloud irreversibly delete contacts? Please help, I have no idea what the missing contacts are and I'm super OCD, all had matching email addresses, AIM names, properly labeled alternate contact info... been building this address book for 5+ years and now it's evaporated??!??? I feel your pain. I awoke this morning to check my text messages on my iPhone (I'm away working in Norway) only to notice a text my girlfriend sent over the night. The title bar over the message listed her Italian mobile number instead of her name. I thought that odd, only to realize that virtually all of my contacts have disappeared from the iCloud. Even more strange, there appears to be no order, rhyme nor reason, or any form of sense as to what has been deleted. If this (and a few other issues I have with post-Jobs Apple) is indicative of Apple's trajectory, they're not going to be around long. I'm beyond ******-off over this and I'll be thinking very hard about buying Apple products in the future.

I recently installed iOS 5.0.1 on my iPhone 4 and my wife's iPhone 4. When our contact list merged, I deleted the ones on my phone that I didn't want (all of hers). I didn't realize it was deleting them from her phone as well. We tried restoring both phones from backups created the day before but the deleted contacts did not return. My phone is backed up through iCloud and hers is backed up to our computer.

If you connect your iPhone to a computer running Linux (Ubuntu version in my case) it will become recognized as a normal USB memory pen-drive.
From there, you can use many methods to recover your lost deleted files.
TestDrive allows you to search the drive (iPhone memo) and gives you the possibility to recover deleted files. I'm not an expert, nor did it with iDevice by myself. But it worked for me with Symbian phone (Nokia)...

It will delete them from your device but not from iCloud. Also, when you turn contacts off, you will get a prompt asking you if you want to keep them on your device. If you choose Keep on My iDevice, a copy will stay on your device. It will still include your mom's contacts though so you will need to go through and delete her contacts from your device afterwards. Caution: be sure NOT to delete her contacts from your device before you turn off contact syncing with iCloud. If you do, you will delete her contacts everywhere and they will be lost.

You may have to restore to your latest sync. That's my only solution to your problem. If this didn't help, then I suggest you to visit the closest Apple store and get Genius for help.

Contacts are not saved to icloud from an iphone backup, so a restore from icloud won't help. If someone deleted from icloud, then they are truly gone.
The only other hope is if you had a computer connected to icloud's contacts, then they would still be in one of the computer's backups. If you use a mac, then look in Time Machine. Do something similar if you used a pc. If there is no computer backup, then you are out of luck, unfortunately. Sorry.

Are you trying to reduce the visual clutter on the phone, save space on the phone, or limit the security exposure if your phone is stolen?
If you are only wanting to reduce the visual clutter and make scrolling through the list faster, you could set up a group on the computer containing only the contacts you want to see on my phone (called, for example, "Show on my Phone") and enable only that group inside Contacts on the phone. You might even have one or more existing groups that you could enable that way (maybe "Family" and "Personal").

TS4009 Deleting contacts on iPhone...do they delete from iCloud too?

I am new to Apple products but have a delima...my stepson transferred contacts from his old phone to the new one then started deleting the contacts on the old one only to find that they were being deleted from his new iPhone. Is there anyway to get all that back from "iCloud"? Very lost and confused. I'm hoping there is good news for us!

Unfortunately once you have deleted contacts from your iCloud account, there is no way to recover them from the iCloud account directly. If you have a backup of the contacts on a computer somewhere you may be able to recover them.

After signing up for icloud to try out then not really caring for it I deleted my account. Icloud deleted all of my stored contacts in the process. Thank you for that. Just what I needed on a Monday evening.

I wish. What you do need is to know where those contacts come from in the first place and get those from there again. Once you got them find out if they will go to icloud if you turn icloud on. Some things do go and some don't. Example is Verizon's back up assistant keeps your contacts internally and doesn't sync with icloud.

If you log into Icloud.com, are all your contacts correct there? If the answer is Yes, I would then turn contacts OFF on your phone, and then turn them back on. Do not merge, but replace with Icloud content.
This is usually the quickest way to edit a bunch of contacts, through the web interface.
