Well yes, you can't sign into an account unless you have one.

"Exactly, once you sign in you are stuck because everyrhing from that time forward disappears if you cancel the link, and by the way it isn't a "copy," it is what you created. If a copy remained I wouldn't be ticked off
It does not disappear, it is right where you put it, in iCloud.
I suggest that you read the documentation for iCloud, you seem not to know how it works.
"That is fer shure. Way to go, blame the customer, no-one ever reads the documentation until it is too late.
You don't speak for everyone, and the documentation should be read before, not after, blind leaps don't always pan out.
Do you want to fix your problems or complain?

  • IPad Numbers 2.0.1 runs fine but now cannot open iCloud docs on Mac, Numbers version 2.3

Numbers document created on Mac, saved in iCloud. I can open the doc on the iPad but on the Mac, it tells me I need to purchase a new version of Numbers. Why? I need to access this doc on the Mac...now!

You cannot access iCloud on a Mac running Mac OSX 10.4.  Are you sure, the system version is correct?
If you are running iWork '09 (iWork 09 9.0.1) on your Mac with Numbers 2.3, you must at least have MacOS X 10.5.6 installed.
if you want iCloud support for iOS apps, you need the iWork 9.3 update, see:  About the iWork 9.3 Update
And this update requires OS X Lion v10.7.4
Is your iMac compatible with Lion or later?

  • The iCloud id on my Mac is my old mobile me id. I use a different id for purchases which is also the I'd used on my iOS devices. Is there any way to replace the iCloud apple id on the Mac to make it the same as the one that I use for purchases?

The iCloud id on the Mac is the old mobile me one. I no longer have any use for it and want to use the id that is used for purchasing and is on my iOS devices. It would enable me to make better use of I stream between the Mac and the iOS devices

Sign out of icloud in system preferences and sign in with the one you want to use.  Just be sure to backup icloud-synced data first, before signing out, if you have any data associated with that account you care about.  Then you can reimport it after.  If you only want the information that is currently syncing on your mobile devices, then it's simply sign out with the old MM one and sign in with the one on the mobile devices.

  • Can I add a 2nd iCloud account on my Mac?

Can I add a 2nd iCloud account on my Mac?

You could use one at once and keep switching between the two, but it would be rather messy. You can also add more than one @me mail address to mail. You could also use seperate user accounts for each iCloud account. If you tell us why you would want to have two iCloud accounts on one mac we might be able to give better advice.

  • Files uploaded to iCloud Drive also taking up space on local hard drive

    Hello all!
    Quick question:
Why are files uploaded to iCloud Drive also taking up space on my hard drive?  I want to use my iCloud Drive for cloud based back up of certain files.  I do not want these files to sync automatically, but to live in the cloud unless I need them.
When I upload something to iCloud Drive it also appears to be stored locally on my hard drive, as my available disk space is reduced by the size of the file I have uploaded to iCloud Drive.
    Thoughts?

In other words, there is no way to have a file live only in the cloud?
    No.
Just a short note in addition to Kappy's answer:  iCloud is not an additional external storage, it is a common storage for keeping the contents synced across all devices.
What you are moving to iCoud will be copied to all devices that are syncing with iCloud.
See this link:   iCloud Drive FAQ
With iCloud Drive, you can safely store all your presentations, spreadsheets, PDFs, images, and any other kind of document in iCloud. Documents you store in iCloud Drive will be kept up to date across all of your devices, and you can access them from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC.
Here's what you can do with iCloud Drive:
Store and access all of your documents in one place from any of your devices
Keep files and folders up to date across all your devices
Create new files and folders from iCloud-enabled apps
Work on the same file across multiple apps

  • How to kill iCloud password popup on Mac start up?

iCloud password is asked every time I reboot my mac. Can't turn it off. It makes me crazy! How to kill this popup? MacBook Pro Yosemite OS X 10.10.2 (14C109)

    Good Afternoon vonnavi,
If you are repeatedly being asked to enter your iCloud password on your Mac, try these steps to resolve the issue:
iCloud: Account troubleshooting - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203512
Go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com), click “Manage your Apple ID,” and try to sign in with your Apple ID. If you are unable to sign in, follow the steps provided there to reset your Apple ID account password.
I receive a “failed user name or password” alert when attempting to sign in at iCloud.com, in iCloud preferences (Mac), or in the iCloud Control Panel (PC).
Make sure that you're entering your entire Apple ID when you sign in (for example, if your Apple ID is [email protected], make sure that you aren't trying to sign in with just “username”).
Verify that the Caps Lock key is not enabled. All passwords are case sensitive.
Make sure that you're using the correct iCloud-associated Apple ID and not a different Apple ID used for other services. For more information about having more than one Apple ID, refer to Using your Apple ID for Apple services.
If needed, reset your Apple ID password at iforgot.apple.com.
If you use the same Apple ID for iCloud as you do for other Apple Services, (for example, Apple Online Store, iTunes Store, or Mac App Store), changing your iCloud account password also changes your password for the other Apple services. Make sure that you sign in to those services using your new password. Also, be sure to update your Apple ID password on all of your devices and computers that may use your Apple ID (such as any email applications that you use to receive iCloud email).
I can't sign in to iCloud on my Mac due to an alert stating that my email address has not been verified.
If you can't sign in due to the alert “Account not verified - Check your email for instructions for verifying your account”:
Close and reopen iCloud preferences before attempting to sign in to iCloud again.
If that does not resolve the issue, check your email folder and Junk folder for a verification email sent from Apple.
If there is no verification email in your email folder or Junk folder, click the Resend Verification Email button in iCloud preferences.
    Hope this helps ...
    - Judy

  • Having problem with iCloud contact on my mac

I'm having problem with my iCloud contact on my mac. My iCloud contact doesn't appear on my Mac.
I already backup my iPhone contacts to my iCloud account today and I also already follow any instruction on iCloud Apple Support. But my problem still exist.
For the information, i'm using the 10.9 OSX and 7.0.2 IOS. I believe there's no problem with my browser. I already try with Safari, Firefox and Chrome.
    Thanks for your kindly attention.

It's very funny, guys. Right after I post this question, my iCloud contacts succesfully appear on my Mac. LOL.

  • I need Numbers 3.0 to open icloud docs; how can I download without losing Numbers 2.3?

I need Numbers 3.0 to open icloud docs; how can I download without losing Numbers 2.3?

    VR,
Your Numbers 2 app will still be functional if you download the new Numbers 3 app. If you purchased Numbers 2 prior to the Mac App Store, your iWork '09 apps are in Applications > iWork. If you purchased your Numbers 2 app from the Mac App Store, Numbers 2 will be in Applications, no sub folder. But, if you "Upgrade" to Numbers 3, Numbers 2 will be moved into an iWork subfolder within Applications. You will be able to manually choose which one you want to use, but Numbers 3 will be the default.

  • Contacts 'is not member of' All iCloud or On my Mac

Can someone, please, explain the meaning of ‘is not member of’  in Contacts when applied to ‘iCloud’ or ’On My Mac’ ?
As an example, I got the following results on some list of contacts.
clicking on ‘All contacts’ reveals a list of 254 contacts
clicking on ‘All iCloud’    reveals a list of 254 contacts
clicking on ‘On my Mac’ reveals a list op 241 contacts
so I created the following smart groups:
‘is in iCloud’           for all cards satisfying ‘is member of ’ ‘iCloud’
‘is on HD’            for all cards satisfying ‘is member of’ ‘On My Mac’
clicking on ‘is in iCloud’           reveals a list of 245 contacts
clicking on ‘is on HD’             reveals a list of 241 contacts
So far so good. However, I also created the following 4 smart groups:
‘is not in All iCloud’           for all cards satisfying ‘is not member of ’ ‘iCloud’
‘is not in iCloud’                         for all cards satisfying ‘is not member of ’ ‘is in iCloud’
‘is not in On My Mac’ for all cards satisfying ‘is not member of’ ‘On My Mac’
‘is not on my HD’          for all cards satisfying ‘is not member of’ ‘On My Mac’
    and
clicking on ‘is not in All iCloud’           revealed a list of 241 contacts (I expected 0)
clicking on ‘is not in iCloud’                 revealed a list of     0 contacts (as expected)
clicking on ‘is not in On My Mac’ revealed a list of 254 contacts (I expected 254-241=13)
clicking on ‘is not on my HD’           revealed a list of     0 contacts (I expected 254-241=13)
finally, the smart group of card ‘is not member of’ ‘is not in All iCloud’ captained no cards.
I am puzzelled. Is this an error? It does not seem to comely with Apple’s own ‘OS X Human Interface Guidelines’.
Nevertheless I would be vere pleased with a good explanation of the ‘is not ember of’ and, prefferably, some way to reveal the cards of ‘All Cloud’ but not ‘On my Mac’  (iCloud is my default account and I want to have a copy off all cards on my Mac)

  • Move Mail.app folders from iCloud to "on my Mac"

iCloud says my 5Gb storage is almost full. The iCloud Help page Storage and Backup/Reduce email storage/Move messages to your Mac suggests moving messages manually from iCloud mailboxes to a mailbox “on my Mac.”
Why can’t I just drag mailboxes from iCloud to “on My Mac” and then delete the copied mailboxes from iCloud? Would doing this affect my ability to send and receive messages?

Thanks, Csound1! FYI,  I tried to create Smart Folders (apparently Smart Folders can only be created on “iCloud”) for each of the past 4 years, e.g. “2009”; create an Archive “On My Mac” for each of those same years, e.g., “2009 Archive” and then move all the mail from that year’s Smart Folder into its corresponding Archive, e.g. “2009” to “2009 Archive.”
Unfortunately, the Smart Folders did a poor job of assembling all mail from [date] to [date] and I ended up cleaning up every mailbox by hand. Usually, the Smart Folder would pick up everything from past years except from the year the mailbox was created (this is my deduction), so I’d have one or two items from 2014 and all the correspondence from, say, 2011 in my “Family” mailbox.
Even so, I picked up an entire Gb of iCloud storage before doing the clean-up. I exported the contents of the Smart Folders and then deleted them. I also exported the contents of the Archives for back-up purposes.
Now I have 4.97Gb of iCloud storage available.

  • HT204053 I cannot sign into my iCloud account.  My MAC has my incorrect apple id but it is correct on all other devices (ISO).  How can I get this corrected?  Thanks!

i cannot sing into my iCloud account on my mac.  IT has the wrong apple ID and my apple ID that has been verified does not work. My other devices have my correct apple id and I can sign in.  This is very frustrating.  Thanks

Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.

If you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC - when connected (and if your computer's iTunes is up-to-date) your iPad should then appear on that sidebar under a 'Devices' heading :
If you select the iPad on that sidebar you can then use the Movies tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and sync that film to your iPad's Videos app.
Has your iPad been synced to the computer before ? If not then you might find this page for syncing to a new computer useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

  • HT204053 I changed my apple ID. What can I do to change the icloud ID also so that they are the same.

I changed my Apple ID. What can I do to change my icloud ID also so that they are the same.

If you used the "Manage your Apple ID" login at https://appleid.apple.com to simply change your primary email address of your existing AppleID, then all you need do is log out of iCloud and then log back in with the new email.  If on an iOS device, go to settings, delete the iCloud account, and then log back into it with the new email address.
If you actually created a wholly new AppleID, then you cannot change that for your existing iCloud address.  You can make a new iCloud account with the new AppleID.  But your current iCloud login would continue to use the same AppleID as its login.
