ICloud does not appear in system preferences?

Just bought a used macbook with OSX Lion already installed on it. The issue is that iCloud is not in the System Preferences
and I would like to find out what I have to do to get this application to appear? Please help...

If you have Lion, check to see the version.
You are most likely running version 10.7.1 in which you will need to run Software Update and update your computer to version 10.7.2 to get iCloud in System Preferences.

  • I have OSX v. 10.6.8. ICloud does not appear in my preference. How do I control Icloud on my IMac?

I have an IMac with OSX v. 10.6.8 installed.  ICloud does no appear in preferences. I already have it turned on in my IPhone; but cannot turn it on on my IMac.  I ca only acess it via ICloud.com and that does no show all ICloud options, such as photo, etc.

iCloud needs OS X Mountain Lion or Lion. Make a backup, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. Check if your programs are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
Photo Stream needs iPhoto '11 or Aperture 3 with the most recent update, so if you don't have one of these versions, you have to purchase it in the App Store

I have loaded the time capsual software and it appears to be working ok - the green light is solid, I have wireless internet and access to my external hard drive which is also connected to the capsual base station. However, I am trying to do my first system backup but cannot find TC is system preferences as per instructions - am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks

Time Capsule is a device. Time Machine is the app built into Leopard (10.5.x). TM is found under Applications -> Utilities. However, my TM icon is right on my Dock and on the upper menu bar. Have you used TM before?

  • TM does not appear in system preferences

I've recently set up a TM for backing up wirelessly, this works fine with my mac book, but it does not show up in my system preferences on my I Mac with OS X 10.5.1, it is only visible on the desk top as data.
I'm using the TM as a primary network device and all is ok in the network utility as far as the network is concerned.
Any help would be gratefully accepted

Upgrade to 10.5.6. At a minimum, I think you need at least 10.5.2 to use time machine with time capsule.

  • Cdrom sharing does not appear in system preference

When I click sharing in system preference, there is no "CDROM" to activate sharing.

Presumably your MacBook Air is the borrower, not the computer offering the CD ROM to share.
Anyway, here's a good tutorial guide to CD sharing for the MacBook Air:

  • HT204053 Activating iCloud on OS X 10.6.8 - iCloud does not show in System Preferences, and upgrading to more recent OS will slow computer. Can I activate iCloud on this device? It's the 2008 MacBook aluminum model.

I was told that upgrading the OS would slow down my machine significantly. I don't plan on using iCloud for anything other than setting up Find My iPhone. Any suggestions on how to activate iCloud with my current OS?

You would need to upgrade OS X to 10.7.5 (Lion) or later to sync your Mac with iCloud.  If you have 2GB of memory and 8GB of available hard drive space, you could upgrade to OS X Mavericks for free from the Mac App Store.  After upgrading, you can sign into your iCloud account in System Preferences>iCloud.
However, you don't need to do anything if you only need to use Find My iPhone.  To use Find My iPhone to track your iOS devices from a computer you go to icloud.com from your browser, sign into the iCloud account the device you want to track is using and click Find My iPhone.

  • Quicktime does not appear in System Preferences

Following the instructions for OS 10.7.2:
To install QuickTime Player 7 on OS X Lion
Download QuickTime Player 7 from here.
Double-click "QuickTimePlayer7.6.6_SnowLeopard".  Note: This download is compatible with Mac OS X v10.6 and OS X Lion
QuickTime Player 7 will be installed in your Utilities folder.
    I did this.
Entered the code I purchased. Got Invalid Registration.
    What to do??

Name and number must exactly match that found in the email confirmation. Use copy/paste to enter it.
There is no QuickTime system Preference pane in Snow Leopard or Lion.

I cloud does not appear in system preferences ....after transition.
    Mobile me still there...
    All other devices working fine.
Also ICal asking repeatedly for password...we enter it and error reappears

Please always post your operating system when you have a question since in many cases the answer depends on it.
Lioin 10.7.2 is required for iCloud - if you have anything earlier you can't use it directly.
You will be able to access email, calendar and contacts on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).

    Hi Ybee,
