ICloud does not store deleted mail

I have my Mail preferences set to move deleted mail to trash but the trash to empty Never.  In spite of this, iCloud only stores 2 weeks worth of my deleted emails.  Why is this?

I've just spent 45 minutes talking to Apple Support and their suggestion is to use iCloud prefs to change where deleted messages are sent as per this support note:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2651
I'm sceptical about this as the new folder becomes the trash folder and the message is still there in prefs that mail will be deleted after 30 days. My mail is only being retained for about a week.
I dug a bit further and found this which gives some clues to what might be happening:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3887973?start=0&tstart=0
My deleted mail was being retained indefinitely until I updated my iPhone to iOS6 recently. So something must have changed as a result of this update. The other thing I noticed which wasn't there before is an archive icon, as well as the trash icon. I wondered what it was there for and now think I've worked it out. In the iPhone mail preferences for my iCloud email account, there is a setting under Advanced > Outgoing Mail Server called Archive Messages. There is some small point text immediately under this setting which says 'Save deleted messages in your Archive folder'. This defaults to being OFF. I've now turned it to ON. With this on it seems that deleted messages will now be able to be found in the Archive folder which appears after the Sent or Trash folders depending on which device you're on.

Sending messages with Apple Mail fails to store them on server. I have the preferences checked to store them on server but this does not happen. I am using hostgator.com and I can log into my webmail account with Squirrel mail and sent mail is not stored or seen in the sent mail box.

    Hello John:
I have no clue what those things you mention are….
If, however, your mail platform is POP, the sent messages will not be stored on the server.

  • Icloud does not sync my mail correctly

I am having problems with icloud syncing my mail immediatly.  It used to do this, but no longer does.  For example, as soon as I deleted an email on my phone, it would delete off my notebook.  Now, I have to delete it from both locations.  Same for receiving mail and replies/forwards.  Anybody know of a fix?

Frequently there is a lag in time.  Try giving it more time for the changes (deletes/moves) to take hold.

  • I changed my AppleID/Password and now am locked out of iCloud. iCloud says maximum number of free accounts have been activated. tried Settings, Mail etc but iCloud does not appear. I was going to delete it and start again.

Had to change Apple ID/Password recently now cannot access iCloud. In settings when tapping iC, log in screen appears with old ID and request for (old) password.
In Settings  Mail, Contacts etc iCloud does not appear. I was going to delete account.
Trying new ID/Password message appears "maximum no. of free accounts have been activated".
Using old ID/Password message apperas "you can,t sign in because account was disabled for security reasons ......reset password at iforgot.apple.com which i did.
    Can anybody help please??

    Hi,
I tried to log in to iCloud but a message appears telling me I "can't sign in because my account was disabled for security reasons....reset password at iforgot.apple.com". I don't know why this happened.
I reset both my Apple ID and password.
When I tap Settings iCloud is listed on the left side between General and Mail, Contacts etc.
Tapping iCloud brings up a log in screen for iCloud which shows my old Apple ID and requests the password. If I put the password in I get the message as above.
If I use the new Apple ID/Password I get the message "the maximum number of free accounts have been activated....
In settings there is no option to "Delete Account"
    Any suggestions??

Under what circumstances does mail "not leave the mails on the server"?
If you mean that you delete them (or move them out of the inbox) on one device and then find them not in the inbox on the server when you look from another device, that's how IMAP is supposed to work. (Note that the deletion or moving might be the result of rules you have set up in Mail.)
If you mean something else, please explain your issue in more detail.

    help me please

You can't. Return the phone for a refund, if you can, because without the previous owner's Apple ID/Password, you will not be able to re-activate the phone. It will be useless to you.
Apple can't/won't help you with this.

  • ICloud mail does not reconnect in Mail application on MacBook Pro after disconnecting and reconnecting iPhone or after sleep

iCloud mail does not reconnect in Mail on my MacBook Pro after sleep or after disconnecting and reconnecting my iPhone. This only happens when I use my iPhone as a 3G-modem and not when I am on Wi-Fi. The only solution seems to be to quit the Mail-application and restart it again. Then Mail reconnects to iCloud.

    Hi horstp,
Given your description of the issue (works on other Macs), it may be worth trying to set up that account by itself in a new test user on the iMac to see if it can be isolated to a user-specific file. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Safari does not store history or sync my iCloud bookmarks

    Hi,
I am using MacBook Pro with OSX Mavericks. My safari does not store any of the history or does not sync the bookmarks of icloud. However, when I logged in from a guest user, the history was stored.
I tried some of the troubleshooting methods mentioned in other similar posts. But i could not find history.plist. My Library/safari folder contained only extension folder. The icloud keychain and icloud tab features work like a charm.
Can anybody help me resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
Then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

I have a mac 10.5 and need help figuring out how to change my email settings so it does not automatically delete my inbox every 30 days.  How to I adjust the mail settings?

I think it must be an IMAP account then, & in Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Advanced>Keep copies for Offline viewing:>Don't keep copies, then on the Server, or maybe it's just this one itself, but on the Server you have a setting to remove eMails after 30 days.
If it's a POP account we'd have to investigate that... but you didn't say so I'm guessing here.

Under Window in the Menu bar select Connection doctor. You will see green to indicate a connection and red to show there is a problem. Except for iCloud account you'll see two entries for each account 1) receiving and 2 SMTP for sending.
If it's red, this usually means it's missing the password.
For Incoming messages, set in the account window, under Account Information tab.
For Outgoing (SMTP) messages, follow these steps:
    EDIT SMTP SETTINGS
In Accounts window > Outgoing Mail Server SMTP:  select to Edit SMTP Server list... from popup.
Select account in the list.(It's not uncommon to find extra SMTP servers listed. When you remove account, Mail does not delete the smtp info. You might need to do some clean up in the list to remove the extras.)
    Under Advanced Tab:
Apple defaults to the default ports (25,465, 587) but some servers prefer a custom port. Check to see what port they recommend. Gmail for example likes 465, Outlook.com 587.
Verify if your server require SSL.
User Name. Enter full email address  eg.  [email protected]
Add password if it is blank.(If you have two step authentication setup, you'll need to get an app specific password  more info)
Open Connection Doctor under Window in the Menu bar.
Do you see green light now for your account SMTP?

  • ICloud does not backup 4S

iCloud does not backup. On my iPhone 4S it states "There was a problem completing the backup. Please try again later." after attempting to Back Up Now. I've spent far too much time trying to discover a work around to this issue, and I've been on this forum and others in search of answers, to no avail.
Before receiving my iPhone 4S in the mail on October 17th, I upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5 on the morning of the 15th. In using iCloud on that device, everything "just worked" as we're told that it should. As this problem has become apparent with my 4S, I have gone back and disabled iCloud on my old 3GS, but this has not solved my problem.
I've found many other customers in my searches that have had this same, or similar, issue. Some users claimed that turning off and on iCloud solved their problem. Some claimed that restoring their iPhone to factory settings and then reclaiming backed up data solved their peoblem. Some claimed that creating a new Apple account, using it to backup through iCloud, and then logging into their original Apple account solved their problem. None of these solutions worked for me.
Some users have speculated that this is some kind of corrupt account issue. I'm beginning to feel this way as well.
I'm not really interested in going to the Genius Bar, because frankly I've been more effective on my own and I haven't been impressed with their knowledge in the past. I am willing to call AppleCare to try to get some flag raised in Apple's Engineering department as a last resort, but I'm curious how widespread this issue is and if anybody has had any luck with this route yet.

I don't want version and I want to go back to iOS 7.1.2 please tell me how to do it.
You can't.  There's no going back to a previous iOS on an iPhone. Apple doesn't support it.  Have you taken the phone into an Apple store Genius bar to have them take a look at it?  Be sure to make an appointment before going in.

  • Changed my Apple ID email, but ICloud does not recognize my new login, only my old one (which is now non-existent) HELP!

Changed my Apple ID email, but ICloud does not recognize my new login, only my old one (which is now non-existent) and requires the password to do anything. Everytime I go onto the ICloud  page it shows my old email and requires the password, but I can't exactly type in a password because that won't work. I can't find a way to change my email or delete ICloud.

If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

I am using the 32-bit version of Outlook 2010 on my Win7 64-bit system. I had no problems with MobileMe and I thought (that is what I get for thinking) the migration would be somewhat painless.  Not the case.  I see the adin for iCloud in Outlook and it is enabled, however, iCloud does not see Outlook 2010.  Trying to follow HELP at Apple, is like a dog chasing it's tail.  Round and round with no answers.
