ICloud Drive makes internet unusable.

Whenever I have iCloud Drive enabled a process called 'nsurlsessiond' just starts downloading furiously. This screenshot is a 10 minute period and as you can see it downloaded 828.6MB in that small time frame. It almost makes my Internet unusable.

I have seen other threads regarding this issue but is there a fix?

I ran some tests comparing iCloud Drive to Dropbox to see how fast each uploaded a file and to see how it effected my internet.  This is what I found:
I closed all apps to have a minimal effect on the network.  I uploaded the file to each service separately.  The file was the same 211.3 MB file.
iCloud Drive: 2 minutes 32 seconds
ping statistics ---
154 packets transmitted, 148 packets received, 3.9% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 34.619/7593.152/20905.769/6540.356 ms
Dropbox: 2 minutes 51 seconds
ping statistics ---
181 packets transmitted, 180 packets received, 0.6% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 35.381/212.434/3718.613/412.643 ms
So, iCloud drive was faster, however if you look at the ping statistics, the network is much worse off when iCloud drive is uploading a file.  Much more packet loss and significantly worse response times.

  • ICloud Drive on Mac not displaying folders like on internet

    Hi,
I seem to be having a problem as the iCloud Drive in the Finder is not displaying the folders that are present on the iCloud on the internet.
Would really benefit from some help about this.
    Thanks!

Locally only folders that have files in them are displayed.  In my iCloud Drive folder I have the following:
If you haven't saved a Numbers file to the iCloud Drive the Numbers folder will not show on your Mac. You need to save from the application to the iCloud Drive and it will create a folder and save the file to it.

  • How can I make iCloud Drive sync?

    Hi everyone,
I would very much like to use iCloud Drive but I can't get it to sync reliably. Last night I deleted 34 presentations from my iCloud Keynote folder on my MacBook Pro. This morning I booted up my iMac and the files were still there after an hour. Why were they not deleted when I started up my iMac? A few weeks ago I did a bigger experiment where I moved a number of project folders from the Documents folder of my home iMac to my iCloud Drive. Hours later on my iMac at work, most of the files were still not there (my work iMac is on all the time). I worked on one of the files, and when I got back home, it was not updated.
Any advice on how I can get iCloud Drive to work properly? I can't use it if it is this unreliable.
    Gregory

That is not supported. iCloud Drive is not meant as a "remote only" storage or backup, its main purpose is to give you access to all your documents across all devices and to update the documents across all devices. The local shadow copies will ensure that you have access to your document, even if you are not connected to the internet.

  • Icloud drive on ios .. How to make it a perfect experience ?? Here is a simple suggestion

Dear apple if you want to make the Ios a perfect experience and shut the comptitors noise about difficculty in  transfering files in and out of an ios device it is so simple now after the icloud drive is here .. Just one simple thing
create an icloud drive icon in the ios system allowing users to access files on the icloud drive in the same  way it is accessed on yosmite  or icloud.com...  it will be very user friendly and easy to use and will end the fear of ios closed source policy some people have
another option in safari called download to icloud drive would really take the ios into another level believe me nobody would not think this is perfect

The answer seems obvious, unless copies are also stored on my Macbook for situations where Internet is not available.

Set the Finder Sidebar preferences so that the iCloud drive is included in the Favorites section of the Finder sidebar:

  • Access iCloud Drive files without internet connection? Backups?

So, if I want to put files in iCloud Drive, the process is simple, but the process MOVES the files out of my Documents folder to a hidden location in my local device's file system? (~/Library/Mobile Documents). I really can't access MY documents shared with iCloud any more unless I'm online? Plus, even if I can figure out how to see my documents in the Mobile Documents folder, they're now arranged by application, and not by the folder system I've set up over 20 years of use? Can I backup my files hosted on iCloud? Is iCloud Drive a serious cloud document host solution or just a trap for noobs?

  • Retrieving a lost file from iCloud drive

I was saving files from documents folder onto iCloud drive and deleted other files in iCloud drive in the process, which i need to get back. Is there a way to retrieve the file i had saved in iCloud drive which is now gone.  I don't have time machine set up, New laptop.

If you did not make a backup the files and you deleted them from iCloud Drive, they are gone, unless you did not yet empty the Tras on your Mac. Have you checked the Trash in the Dock?
If you deleted them completely, you can only try data recovery software like Disk Drill, but that will be expensive.
If you are syncing another Mac with iCloud, they documents may still be on this Mac, if it has not been connected to the Internet and the changes had not yet been synced to that Mac.

  • My iCloud Drive doesn't work

    I have the following problems:
    1) Some files are shown in iCloud.com, but they are not shown in my iCloud Drive folder on my Macbook;
    2) I can't delete folders from iCloud.com: I get an error (as the image shows);
    3) Sometimes when I drop folder to my iCloud Drive, I get errors (such as: "xxx folder already exists") and the sync stops;
    4) There's no feedback, and it consumes all of my CPU. I don't even know if it's really uploading files.
I want to downgrade to free 5 GB storage, but I'm currently using 9 GB and 5 GB were fine if I were able to delete folders.
PS: Yes, I have enabled iCloud Drive.

I don't know exactly how, but I got it working. I will try to explain, what I did.
    1. I used the easybox as DHCP-Server an set the TC to Bridge Mode.
    2. Then I gave the TC a fixed IP in the easbybox menu by using it's MAC-address (It seems that the address range has to be either 192.168.X.Y or 10.0.X.Y to make the TC accessable later).
    3. I made the TC a DHCP-Server (DHCP only, not also NAT). The IP addess range of the TC starts after it's own IP adress (10.0.0.111) and ends at (10.0.0.250). The IP range of the easybox starts with 10.0.0.1 (it's own) and end with the TC's (10.0.0.111).
    4. Then the Airport Utility told me that if I want to share an DHCP range the TC has to be set to a fixed IP setting, which I set up, leaving the IP-address 10.0.0.111 and the Router IP 10.0.0.1 (the easyboxs').
    5. Then it worked in my case. Since I don't even know what I did, I'm not shure if it workes under other circumstances.
There are of course many variables. Such as the type of the router and the TC or the kind of the internet connection.

  • ICloud drive duplicated folders

I have a few folders with personal files and research data in iCloud Drive, a total of ~7GB.
Sometimes in the morning, as I connect to internet, a few moments later I see a bunch of subfolders duplicated as 'Name' to 'Name 2'. Furthermore, all the subfolders inside 'Name' are also present in 'Name 2', then the actual files are all moved to 'Name 2' and disappeared from 'Name'.
I do daily backups with time machine, but this make it impossible to work as everyday I need to re-map folders locations with a bunch of software and virtual machines.
    I am gonna loose data?
Is there a solution for this problem

Sorry I can't help but I have the exact same thing and it's so frustrating! I would like to add more iCloud storage and start moving more files to the cloud but with iCloud how it is at the moment this would be a very bad idea!
Sometimes you change files, only to find them in different folders with the same name but numbered sequentially. I have had three folders before! Name 1, name 2 and name 3. And then its very unsettling as you don't know which folder has your correct or updated files in and you spend time having to check them all. Its ridiculous!

  • How do I manage multiple iCloud accounts for personal iCloud Drive & personal calling?

Yosemite has the ability now to make and receive phone calls as well as to use an iCloud Drive to share documents across devices (similar to DropBox, but as you will see with one major customization flaw).  These are wonderful featurew, however, unless I am following the directions incorrectly my computer with Yosemite has to have the same iCloud account as is used on my iPhone for iMessage (for calling) and for virtually everything else for iCloud Drive (ie there is no way to set-up a separate iCloud account for iCloud Drive).
Now for iMessage I use a private iCloud account, but for the iPhone itself I actually use an iCloud account shared with my family.  Why?  Because when we use a shared iCloud account we can share a number of things here such as:
Location  on Find iPhone.  This works way better than find my friends and also makes it easy for us to lock a device if it's stolen since all of us know how to do this.
Calendar not critical, but allows us to put some family events here
Notes, Very cool as we can share shopping lists which is very helpful when you show up at the grocery and want to know what to get or to Costco etc
Reminders Also very cool as we can create reminders for each other for when we get home or whatever
Files on iCloud Drive Yes there are some files that it would be nice to share and we can do this (ideally there would be multiple accounts for this)
Now I haven't really used iCloud Drive much but you can easily imagine how some documents I might want to share with the family on iCloud while other's I might not.
Now when you switch your Facetime iCloud account to the same as the iPhone that is one private iCloud account shared with an application on another device that uses the same iCloud account.  That is NO PROBLEM.  However, the minute you activate the ability to call phones it requires that you now have the SAME iCloud account in the main computer.  Now BINGO I have a problem as noted above I want to be able to share certain things with other devices.
Does anyone have a solution or workaround?
Otherwise it seems the only thing to suggest is that Apple consider a feature enhancement that allows you to make cell calls from your computer WITHOUT switching the iCloud account to the main account.  For that matter it would be very useful if they could figure out how to partition the iCloud features so that I can decide which iCloud account does what or like DropBox give permissions for certain things and allow the individual users to decide what they want and don't want.
    Thanks.

    Gail,
No you are not being dense, you are just trying to be helpful.  I may not have explained the problem very well.  Setting up a Family iCloud account works great!  However, if that account name is also used for your iMessage, Facetime, and now cellular calls you have an issue with your calls going to the entire family (or worse the thing just not working), your iMessages if multiple phone numbers are trying to use the same icloud account usually get messed up, and their Facetime accounts might end up showing up as you instead of them.  In fact, I think you can't call your family members in this situation and I'm not sure iMessage works very well either.  So what everyone does is create a personal iCloud account for personal features such as iMessage, FaceTime, etc.
Now in theory I could co-opt the Family iCloud account for my calls, but then no one else would be able to use the call feature, because unless I'm mistaken you can't have multiple phone numbers attached to the call Forward and still have them recognize which calls to forward to which phones.    If they don't care for this feature it might work (I'm experimenting now), but I don't think that's what Apple intended.
It is possible to do a switch, which may be what you are suggesting.  This would involve creating a separate profile on the computer that is used for making phone calls.  I would, however, still need to co-opt the iCloud account for just my number and worse I wouldn't be able to make any calls unless I was in that profile.  One of the great advantages of calling from your computer is that you make the call while you are working on something else which is inevitably your work or your personal stuff which is NOT likely to be in the newly created family profile.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I hope this helps you understand either how little I understand of your suggestion or why it doesn't quite meet my needs.

  • How do I consolidate all this at this point: Icloud Drive, Itunes Match, Local iTunes Library, Local iPhoto, Local Aperture, Photo stream, Familly sharing, sharing on iOS, music sharing on iOS, music sharing on mac etc.

I am trying to grasp all the possibilities for consolidating my stuff and my family's stuff from multiple devices and multiple accounts from multiple sources  but I cant.
I have been reading many instructions and FAQ regarding iCloud Drive, iCloud Sharing, iTunes Match, Familly Sharing, file size limitations on iCloud Drive, app sharing on iOS, Backup vs Sync vs cloud sharing,  storing iWork documents on iCloud drive, storing iTunes library on iCloud Drive, storing iPhoto library on iCloud Drive, storing Aperture library on the iCloud, the Photos app on iOS with iCloud and many others.... but I feel like I need a systems admin course from apple to manage all of it.
This is what I and my family currently have:
Hardware: Multiple iPhones, Multiple Macs, Apple TV (with hard drive), Multiple iPads.
Operating systems: Everything is upgraded to the latest iOS and Yosemite.
    Libraries:
    1)  Multiple iTunes Libraries locally stored on Macs and IPhones with lossless CD music and iTunes purchased music. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared iTunes library across ALL devices that contains our Lossless music and purchased music. so that it can be played across ALL   devices. With the ability to have private music for each individual (Not shared).
    b) Purchase new music and add it to the family share or purchase music and make it private (Not shared).
    2)  Multiple iPhoto Libraries macs (With photo stream from iPhones) and ONE Aperture Library on my mac. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared photo library that every one can deposit to and view.
    b) Store individual iPhoto libraries on iCloud Drive(s)? So that everyone can have their own library and edit it across THEIR devices.
    c) Store and use my Aperture Library on iCloud Drive?
    Other documents:
iWork files, PDFs etc. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared area (on iCloud Drive i suppose) where we can share documents.
    b) Sync private documents across ALL individuals devices (Available locally and on iCloud).
    c) Store private documents (One instance)  on iCloud drive and make them available on ALL individuals devices.
    d) Backup of local documents?
    Apps:
    iOS apps:
    a) Share purchased apps?
    b) Not share private apps.
    Storage:
What do I purchase to accomplish the above:
    a) iCloud storage for everyone?
    b) iTunes Match for everyone?
    c) All of the above?
    Conclusion:
It would be great for Apple to explain all this with all the options in one concise document instead of hunting down individual documents and sections all over the place.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hey there!
You and I are data soulmates. I have been having this trouble for a while and have yet to get my head around it. Our problem is that we've cycled through multiple macs and the "home" or "host" for all the stuff that's now been moved or moving to the Cloud is very scattered. It drives me crazy... almost to the point where I'm thinking about starting a brand-new iCloud account and beginning from scratch.
If you have any experiences or recommendations you could share about your strategy, I would love to hear it.

  • ICloud Drive causing timeouts and disconnects when uploading

It seems that iCloud Drive is set to use the maximum upload bandwidth possible when adding files to it.  I have a home internet connection with fairly limited upload bandwidth (1Mbps - Time Warner Cable apparently doesn't think there is any need for more than that). When I add files to iCloud Drive and they begin to upload, everything else I am doing online quickly times out and eventually disconnects.  As far as I can tell, there isn't any manual control for how much upload bandwidth iCloud Drive can use.  Dropbox and other cloud services have such a setting but it seems that Apple has left this out of their offering.  Has anyone else experienced this?
It is probably also worth noting that this is the same thing that happens to me when I upload to iTunes Match.  It seems that Apple needs to better handle users with limited bandwidth.
