ICloud duplicated itself in my accounts listing in the preference pane

When I viewed my accounts this evening to prohibit the notes from showing up in my mail, another icloud account showed up with the same settings. Will not allow me to change anything as I get this invalid directory notification
s

Same here.
This was a big problem when switching from 10.7 to 10.8 and now it seems te be back, bigger than ever when going to 10.9.
All icloud related programs are effected: ical, icloud, adressbook, mail.
Systemprefereces goes easily to 100% cpu load and things like com.apple.icloud or com.apple.internetaccounts turn not responding.
At this moment it does not crash on my imac 2012. It still crashes om the imac 2009 and macbook 2009.
Someone mentioned to use keychain repair but that must be done in English mode!. It crashed in dutch mode.
I have not found a overall solution yet.
Will keep on looking or go back to good old 10.8.5.

  • How to get a list in the album pane

Down loaded the new version, now my albums show in big album pictures instead of a easily read list
cannot find how to change back to a list in the "album" pane
Funny, notice the new format online, more really big pictures that mean a lot of scrolling to find anything
    itunes moving away from efficiency?
it is still unable to locate over 9,000 (was 4,000 when I last looked, at this rate itunes is losing files faster than I am converting them) missing files.
the earlier versions would locate the one missing file and use it to replace other missing files
now it seems I will have to re do them all, one album or audio book at a time
maybe easier to get an mp3 for my next device.

Ah yes! I see the screenshot you mean.
That field depends upon information in the Sort Album field for a song (found by highlighting a song and selecting File/Get Info/Sorting>Sort Album), but in my Library, very few songs have anything in there (even though most information came from Gracenote) and those that do, appear greyed out when I have that column showing (as you do) - and - the songs don't sort on that column, even when I ask iTunes to do so. To be honest, I can't see the point of that column.
******** Yours does not have items in it either? ***********************************
Anyway, more to the point, in your view, if you want to sort by album name, why not use the column in your view currently named Album by Artist? If you click on the top of that column (not the arrow), it toggles between
    Album by Artist ▲
    Album by Artist/Year ▲
    Album ▲
However - if once, it's on the one you want, click on the arrow itself to reverse the sort order. So if you have Album ▲ showing, simply click on that arrow to have Album ▼.
(I think this may be new in iTunes 11. Prior to this, simply clicking in the bar would toggle between every option.)
*************************I'm not sure what you are talking of, selecting from the browser colums to show the list? I don't want a list of artists, I want the album names, only the album names, not the tracks*********************
I cannot understand why the Show Column Browser should be greyed out in your iTunes. But as the browser is showing in your screenshot, that confirms that your iTunes can show the columns. I've already mentioned how to remove the two columns you don't want. If you manage to get that view back (and I don't see why you can't), then you would then have the choice of displaying only the artists in the column browser (I can do this in my iTunes, I've tried again just now), or using the Album ▲ option, see below.
I often need to check an album and I will use the the following view (but with the Artist and Genre in the Column Browser). For this example, I have removed Artists and Genre, to show the view you might use:
*****************I did get the Show Column browser back, and after reading so much on so many discussion sites, I don't remember how*****************************************************************

  • HT204150 Mail and contacts keep hanging.  As I check the iCloud settings there are multiple iCloud accounts listed in the contacts but I did not place them there.  Does anyone else have this problem... I've tried to find information within the support art

I'm having a tough time working within mail... it slows as I type in contacts...The letters appear as if I am typing really slowly!  When I look at the accounts listed in iCloud it appears the accounts are perserverating (listing additional accounts without my involvement!!) The iMac I am using has Mountain Lion with the most recent updates.  I welcome any suggestions!  Thanks

Thanks so very much... it took a while to delete all of the iCloud account duplicates.  And I had to go through the process a couple of times but it seems to be working much better.  One of the problems was while I was connected to the WiFi it kept trying to process all of the data for all of the accounts.  So I disconnected the WiFi and deleted many that way!  Thanks again!

  • Pdf files not listed in the preferences/application list, pdf won't load

I am using Mountain Lion and have Adobe reader 10.1.4 installed. When I click on a site to download a pdf file, I get a blank screen and no download (worked fine before mountain lion) I went to the preferences/applications screen and pdf isn't listed in the app list. How can I get to appear there so that I can assign an action to use reader to open it.

I disabled Acrobat as you suggested and it immediately corrected the problem. Then I changed from preview to Reader in the open with dialogue.

  • User account not highlighted in preference pane, can't delete

After using Migration Assistant to populate a new PB, I now have 2 admin accounts. After consolodating files, I am unable to delete the one that I don't need, but as it's not highlighted in the System Users/Groups Preference pane, a simple deletion doesn't work. I dragged its User folder to the trash and restarted, but the account won't go away. What am I missing?

As Zlig already said, make sure:
    A). You're not logged into the account you're wanting to delete;
B). You have the padlock unlocked at the bottom left of System Preferences

  • Alphabetized variables list in the debug pane

How come in Director 11 it is no longer possible to sort
variables listed in the debug window alphabetically. In previous
versions, you could click on the tab to have the globals and
properties sorted from a to z. This no longer works. It is really
difficult to visually scan a long list for a particular variable
name. Is this a bug, or is there some other way to do it?

Put a breakpoint in the listener function for the event,
because until, the event is dispatched, the variables do not exist.

  • 2 "blank" accounts in File Sharing Preference Pane

    See screenshot here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2213114/Screen%20Shot%202011-08-31%20at%2023.07.33.png
How do I get rid if them?
    Thanks

    BDAqua,
Interesting App, I will try it but before doing so, and potentially making life more complicated, I'd like to understand why these two Macs' sharing doesn't work like all the other Macs I know. I know Tiger provides this facility out-of-the-box, so it's got to be a configuration issue. I'm just damned if I can find the setting.
    thanks for your reply

  • Duplicate users in accounts list

I've just migrated my account and all it's data to a new machine using Apples Migration Assistant and everythings working fine, however, I have multiple instances of my account in the Accounts preference pane (22 duplicates).
In the Login window I just see the one account, but on the preference pane, in 'get info' on files, and in 'swith users' on Butler, I see multiple instances of the same account. I cannot delete them in the Accounts pane as the '-' button is greyed out.
It's not causing me problems, but it is annoying to see 20+ accounts in lists, because I'm not sure which one is the real me (cue Twilight Zone music).
    Any suggestions?

Open the Terminal and NetInfo Manager applications in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following from the Terminal:
    id -u
This command will give you a number. In the NetInfo Manager, click the padlock, type in your administrator password, and delete all the user accounts which are listed under your name and where the account's numeric UID doesn't match the output of the Terminal command. Don't delete an account if its name isn't the same as your account's name, and don't delete the only account with a numeric UID matching the output of the command; if multiple accounts have that UID, delete all but one of them.

  • HT204150 I have 2 iphones registered under same account, but both phones had different contacts in them, somehow icloud duplicated, exchanged them. and deleted could not restore the contacts, how do I restore it? plz help

I have 2 iphones registered under same account, but both phones had different contacts in them, somehow icloud duplicated, exchanged them, and I turned off the icloud on one of them, while doing that it asked me if I want to keep them on my phone or not. I pressed the one saying not to keep them. I deleted all of them and could not restore the contacts, how do I restore it? when I sign in to my icloud account online it only shows the contacts that were on the other phone. plz help

I access a personal iPhone and iPad, and a business iPhone with the same Apple ID.
The iPhone's passcode lock feature is completely separate from another iPhone or iOS device.
All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the Apple ID that was used to download the apps. If some apps were downloaded with one Apple ID and then a new Apple ID is created, in order to download an app update that was installed with the original Apple ID requires using that Apple ID and password.

  • Double account listing with differing authentication

    Greetings!
For a few weeks I have been having problems sending my mail. Finally had the time sit sit down and check out what was going on. I had an old account for mobile me which could (obviously) not connect and deleted it. But that was not the problem.
My mail connection doctor lists 2 account with the name iCloud...
Double clicking on the first gives me the account tab of the preference of mail. Authentication is set to "password"
Double clicking on the second gives me the account tab of the preference of mail with a dropdown menu showing "description" "Server Name" "in use by account" and under that, Account Information / Advanced.
AND authentication. If I set authentication to password (with the proper entries), I get no connection. If I set this second listing to authentication = none, I can send mail...
    Why is this so?
    1) is it ok to leave authentication = none?
    2) do I have to remove one of the account listings?
    3) Am I worrying about nothing important...?
    Thanks,
    JB

    Hi JB,
    Try this...
Mail Preferences>Accounts>Account Information>Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):click on that & choose Edit Server List, highlight the old one & click Remove Server.
Did you setup the new iCloud account like this?
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.
    Thanks to dpepper...

  • Duplicate accounts listed in System prefs

Ever since I transferred my admin account from my old Mac to the new machine (MPro 2.66) I've had duplicate accounts listed in the Users tab of the System Prefs. I have two legitimate accounts, my main account and another admin account; the main account is listed again 3 times under "Other Accounts", with the same photo and login info as the original account. They do NOT have folders in the Users folder however, so it's not like they're complete duplicates; they only appear in this panel. It's not affecting anything adversely, just wondering if I can delete them without affecting my account since all the name/login info is identical.
    Thanks,
    JK

Be careful about deleting those duplicates. You might end up deleting your home directory. Make a backup of your machine just in case. If you are wiling to take some risk then proceed.
I played around with this and found that if you have more then one account pointing to the same home directory, then deleting any of the duplicate accounts will not impact the home directory.
However, one of those accounts must be the *Primary Owner* of that home directory and deleting that user will delete the *Home Directory*. Not quite what you want to have happen.
If you try to delete the Primary account you should get a prompt asking you what to do with the *Home Folder*.
Choose *"Do not change the home folder"*
That should preserve it incase you need to get that directory back.
The first think I would do is see if all the duplicates are using the same *Home Folder*
    Open up Preferences
    Open up Accounts
Ctrl-Click on one of the Duplicate Accounts and select *Advanced Options*.
Record the *Home Directory* for each of the accounts.
If they are the same, then you should be able to delete the duplicates without a problem. Again, if and when prompted, choose *"Do not change the home folder"*.
If the duplicate *Home Folder* point to a different location, then you just have to figure out which is your primary account and delete the duplicates. Again, I'd play it safe and save those home folders until I knew everything was working and there wasn't anything in those folders that I wanted. Once they are gone they are gone.
    Good luck!

  • How can I delete old (non-active) email accounts that don't show in the Accounts Preferences pane?

Since I (reluctantly) abandoned MobileMe and switched to iCloud, when I use Mail Connection Doctor because a problem is indicated with one or more of my email acocunts, it shows both iCloud IMAP and Me.com SMTP accounts. The iCloud account is fine but the SMTP acount has a red button against it.
So Connection Doctor shows the old SMTP account always failing to connect (of course - as it's been abandoned). However, this account does not show up in the Accounts Preferences pane so I am not able to delete it. This also happens with another account which I deleted in the Preferences pane some time ago.
How can I stop these phantom accounts appearing in Connection Doctor? It's very irritating to constantly have faults indicated which apply to abandoned accounts.
    Thanks people!

Go to your iCloud account in Preferences>Accounts. Set the 'Outgoing mail server (SMTP)' drop-down menu to 'Edit SMTP server list'. Then:
Set the server name as shown here. Then click the Advanced tab and check the settings.
If you are still having problems, you could start the setup again from scratch. Assuming that your signature is correct and you are running Leopard, delete any iCloud or MobileMe accounts in the list and then follow the instructions here:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard

  • How can I control the order of accounts and folders in the folder pane?

I have many email accounts, and most of them share the same message store in Local Folders and I routinely download mail from all of this group. Additionally, I have a number of miscellaneous email accounts from which I do not regularly download email, so I have kept them showing as distinct accounts. However, since they are not important, I would rather that they come at the end of the list in the folder pane, as it does not matter much if they scroll off the bottom. Nevertheless, the folders for these accounts seem to insist on appearing before those for Local Accounts. I'd like to change that.
The explicit folders that I have created under Local Folders seem to insist on appearing in alphabetic order. Is there any way to override that?

Perfect! Thanks. It does exactly what I wanted and more.
Odd that it failed to turn up as a result of the search based on my initial question. My query had all the right words to get a hit. Hmmm ...
Now I am embarrassed. I just googled "thunderbird" followed by an exact quote of the question that is the subject of this thread, and guess what turned up at the top of the list! It should have occurred to me to try Google before I tried the question here. I guess I just never expected that there would be such a clean solution. Perhaps with my question now in the Mozilla database, others can benefit if they ask a similar question here.

  • Preferences pane and Mail crash when I access accounts in Mavericks

Mail won't work on my iMac all of a sudden. Initially it just failed to launch and had to be force quit. I managed to reset Mail and it launches but doesn't do anything - no accounts showing up. (Before this happened, smart mailboxes stopped working).
If I try to delete my iCloud accounts the preferences pane freezes when I click on iCloud (and, bizarrely, my bluetooth keyboard stops working - has to be disconnected and reconnected)
Messages also needs to be force quit - so it seems like an iCloud issue.
I'm trying to delete my iCloud account from the iMac to start again, after reading somewhere that this might be the solution, or it was something to do with iCloud keychain.
I restarted my Mac in safe mode, but the problem still occurs: spinning beach ball when I go to the preference pane.
I can access email on my Macbook Air (also running Mavericks) and on iOS devices.
Resetting Mail did not work. Removing extensions did not work.
    Any suggestions gratefully received!

I have a similar problem. Although, for me, Mail doesn't crash. I have two email accounts; Yahoo and Gmail. My experience is that Mail will pick up my new emails from Gmail, but not Yahoo.
