ICloud email accounts necessary on all my apple devices?
I have an iMac, a MacBook Pro, an iPod 2, and an iPhone 4s. When setting up iCloud, I ended up with an iCloud email account on the MacBook, the iPhone, and the iPad, but not on the iMac. Is this normal? Are the iCloud email accounts required on the ios devices and the MacBook?
I'm not sure if I am referring to Apple ID. In the iCloud setup routine on my iPad and iPhone, all of my devices my normal, i.e., [email protected], email address being used as my Apple ID, with a me.com address for email shown on the IOS devices. It would appear then that the cox email account answers the Apple ID requirement. My question, then, is, do I need the iCloud email address (@me.com) as well? Since my iMac doesn't have the iCloud email account in either mail or iCloud, it would appear that I do not. So I guess my bottom line question is, can I safely delete the iCloud email account ([email protected]) from those devices that have it?

I should give more information. I was on my iPad (original) in Mail. I was going through the message and it only displays so many. At the bottom of the inbox list there was a notice that there were 67 more messages and an option to display.
I tapped this several times and it did not display - just bounced me up to an eralier message. Eventually the notice disappeared and there were no additonal message to display. I thought the problem was with the iPad, but when I went to my main computer the messages were goen as well, so I went inot iCloud on the Web and the messages were gone there as well.
If worst comes to worst I can use Time Machien to retrieve some of these, but I rarely use the MacBook that has time machine - so I may not be able to get them all. -
i did not delete it myself as i was just posting entries into the calendar as this happened.
to me the question arises was i being hacked or did some it-guy delete it by accident.
is there a way to determine the fault?
as i did not turn on the iCloud backup and the last full i phone sync is a month back (too far to consider it worthy) i guess my data is lost?
any other ideas. are there different icloud mirrors to access and compare the data even just to find out why it was deleted?Hi horstp,
Given your description of the issue (works on other Macs), it may be worth trying to set up that account by itself in a new test user on the iMac to see if it can be isolated to a user-specific file. You may find the following article helpful:

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan. -
Email accts hacked into on my apple devices
I recently received messages from several people in my Comcast contacts saying they received bogus messages from my comcast email address (I never use that email account). I only have Apple devices. I know enough to be dangerous, and I don't understand how all this works. I thought I wouldn't have problems like that with Apple devices. I have since closed my Comcast email account that I never used anyway. Does this sound like something the Heartbleed worm caused? I just don't get it.

They aren't listed on any of the sites that track such things, so I can't say definitively that your problem is due to Heartbleed, nor is there any way that we will ever know that to have been the case. It is something that Comcast would have to fix and if they did they won't know if they were attacked while vulnerable or not.
In any case, babowa is almost certainly correct that there is nothing more you need to do now that the account has been closed, unless you use that same password for multiple accounts. If that's the case, you need to start using unique passwords for every site you use. -
I just got an iphone recently and I started my apple id using my gmail email address. I decided to change email from gmail to icloud so I setup an icloud email account and now I have two apple id accounts. All my primary information is in the gmail apple id account and i just want to merge the two together. I've tried changing the apple id on the main account to the icloud email, but it says it already exists. How can I merge these two accounts without deleting one or the other?

You could move all your calendars contacts etc over from the account you don't want to the one you do, it's not simple but about all I can suggest. -
How do I delete my existing iCloud account (across ALL my apple devices), and start over from scratch??
(cant seem to get calendars to ever sync right, on my devices, and across to my wifes'....so want to start with a "clean installation")Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account (this disconnects the device from icloud but doesn't delete any data on icloud or on other devices).
If you then want to sign back in using a different ID, do so on the same screen.
I also strongly suggest that you and your wife use different icloud accounts, otherwise all your devices will have the same data on them, same emails, reminders, etc. Most likely not what you want. -
I Downloaded an app that keeps all address' in one place. I went to add my iCloud email and when asked for my password, nothing I tried worked. It is obviously not the same password that I use to login to my Apple or iTunes account. How do I find out my password?

The password for your iCloud account and your Apple ID are one in the same, as the iCloud email account is an alias for your Apple ID as well.
After you set up your @icloud.com email address, you can use it to sign in to iCloud. You can also sign in using the Apple ID you used to create your iCloud account.

I just got my daughter a new macbook pro. She currently shares my wifes apple id for iTunes on her iTouch. I need to set up an email account for her. Is there any way to set up a new iCloud email account but still use my wifes apple id for iTunes?
No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that. -
I have deleted all emails from my ICloud email account but my manage storage still shows that the mail is using 9.7GB. Why isn't the number decreasing if all emails have been deleted?
It might be caused by storage "buffering". If so, the space will adjust automatically when another iCloud feature uses the space previously allocated to your deleted email. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4873.

Is it possible to use a iCloud email account to receive emails from Apple/iTunes/AppStore?
I an wondering if it's possible somehow to receive all the emails from Apple, iTunes Store or App Store (that normally go to the Apple ID email address) to the iCloud email account (@me.com, @icloud.com) instead.

Create a new exisitng mail account for the existing gmail email address.
File > New > Exisitng Mail account
or
Menu icon > New Messages > Exisitng Mail account.
The Thunderbird Mail account wizard window will appear.
Enter your name
Enter full email address
Enter password - the same one you use to logon to see your gmail emails in your webmail account.
Select to remember password.
Click on Continue.
Thunderbird will look up the configuration files.
Usually, it auto checks for IMAP, so you should not need to alter anything.
When it has located server settings, click on 'Done'.
this will create the imap mail account in Thunderbird.
Once this has been done, check settings.
You can locate them either;
Tools > Account Settings for the mail account
or
Menu icon > Options > Account Settings
or
right click on mail accoutn in FolderPane and select 'Settings'.
This link tells you what the settings should be. You will need to select the 'Thunderbird' option to see full info.

Suggest you do not subscribe to see 'All Mail' folder.
It is only gmails archive of all your emails, so subscribing to see this folder will double the size of your profile and may cause some slowdown in performance. -

Is it possible to get a new icloud email account without changing my apple ID?
Not an account, no: you would have to create a new Apple ID and use it to create a new iCloud account. But it depends on what it is you are trying to do: if all you want is a different @icloud.com email address this is easy. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.

I want to use the same account for all my apple devices (macbook air, imac and iphone). I can't see how I can amend the iphone account because it is in grey? I also can't remember the password for this account so i can't even delete it and start again?

ThanksDeleting an iCloud account only deletes it from the Device, not from iCloud. In iOS 8, the name of this setting changed to "Sign Out" as that is a better reflection of what actually happens. Your iCloud data remains on the server, available to devices still signed into the account, but the device you sign out of the account on is disconnected from the account, and as a result, the iCloud data from that account is removed from the device. It will redownload to the device should you sign back into the account.
The only issue you'll run into when you switch between accounts is with my photo stream photos older than 30 days. When you delete (or sign out of) and account, your photo stream photos are deleted along with the other data from the account in question. However, unlike other data which remains on the server and can redownload to your device when you sign back in, my photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days. When you sign back in, you will only get back my photo stream photos added in the last 30 days (as older photos are no longer in iCloud to redownload). Like other account data, any my photo stream photos on your other devices signed into the account are unaffected by this. If you want to keep older my photo stream photos on your device as you change iCloud accounts, save them to your camera roll before deleting (signing out of) the account. -

Am a new user - iPad3. As my Apple ID I used my Yahoo!Mail address and but used adifferent password to that which I use on Yahoo. In my icloud email account Account shows as my Yahoo mail address but neither my Apple password nor my Yahoo pasword work. I am also unable to open any other mail accounts such as gmail. Can anyone help please?
