ICloud email rejects 1.3MB attachment - message size violation

what's going on? Someone is trying to send me a pages document - 1.3MB file size - to my iCloud email, and it bounces back with "Message size violation". I have plenty of space left on iCloud account and this has never happened before.. **** poor Apple!!

Seems to me that I'm getting same error when I'm sending a zipped file containing many folders and files inside...
It's only 2.8MB .ZIP.
No problems if I send an even bigger jpeg image.

I'm trying to send an email with a 4.7MB attachment (zip file, with a single file within) which is getting bounced by iCloud.com (554 5.7.0 Message Size Violation).
Looking at the limits, I should be able to send/receive email with attachments up to 20MB? Why is this email being bounced because of its size?

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.
Quit then relaunch Safari, login to iCloud.com.
See if you can open an attachment.
If that didn't help, go to Safari / Preferences then select the General tab.
At the bottom of that pane select: Open "safe" files after downloadiing
Quit then relaunch Safari. Try again.

ICloud email - Message Size Violation

Emails are rejected by the iCloud email server, apparently for the following reason: "5.7.0 Message Size Violation", however this happens at random, irrespective of the actual message size.

5.7.0 Message Size Violation

I've used mobile me for a few years now. I moved to iCloud when it was recently released. All has been working fine, but today it suddenly starts rejecting attachements in emails sent to me. Someone has been trying to send me a zip file that is under 500kb, but the me server keeps rejecting it with the error message 5.7.0 Message Size Violation.
Not sure why or how to fix it. Can anyone help?

TS4002 my icloud email address will not send messages to my work email. it has before, help please?!

the icloud email address was working before, ive never had any problems with this before. ive sent messages to myself from the email to myself
and it sends, but not to my work email.

make sure it's turned on in settings
and make sure you are using the correct appleID in settings->store

If it is being emailed, then it exceeding the maximum size allowed by your ISP. It is probably even larger than your mailbox. Or is she using some other method such as dropbox?

Email rejected as an attachment

I just recently switched to Verizon and having been trying to send an email to a listserv list using my Verizon email. It keeps being rejected with the message:
Your posting to the _____ list has been rejected because it only contains
attachments which are disallowed by the list configuration. Even though the list is configured to remove unwanted attachments and process the remaining text, in this case there would be nothing left after removing the unwanted data.
I haven't been sending any attachments, only a typed email. I've checked all of the issues the site recommends, but the message is still rejected. I know I can create a free email account for this listing, but I already have one (that doesn't work with this particular list) and since this list is the only thing I use my Verizon email for, it would kind of defeat the purpose of my Verizon email account. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated,. I'm not the most computer literate and cannot figure out what is wrong!!

Well, finally I found a fix...not sure if it's the best or correct, but it worked.  In case someone needs it one day:
I read the change HTML to plain text thread and clicked on the last link that was to the "old" verizon mail. Then switched to plain text, , re-typed my message, and sent it. I received an acknowledgement it was received, so it definitely went through.
I do not have the verizon web page shown in the thread allowing you to switching back and forth between "old" and "new" verizon mail (but do have a classic setting which did not help me).   My email now seems set on the "old" with a button to try the "new" on top.  I'm guessing you still cannot type in plain text with the "new" mail?
For those who asking about who/where has the page you can switch between and who/where doesn't, I live in the Pittsburgh area and switched to FIOS Feb 28.
Not sure if there is a better resolution or not (maybe someone else does?), but this seems to be working for now.

When responding to an email it hangs with Attaching message

I really like Thunderbird, except at various times when I respond to a message there will be a popup that says Attaching. I've waited as long as 20 minutes and it just hangs there. The email I'm responding to can be long or short, that doesn't seem to make a difference. It can be one email or a number in email I'm responding to. There is never an attachment on these emails. I have not found a way to get around this problem. To respond, I have to send a separate email which, of course, loses the chain of correspondence that is needed. Has anyone had this problem and found a way around it? Thanks for your help.

I use Avast for my anti-virus and have for years. It is set to NOT scan outgoing emails. I only have this problem with outgoing emails. The problem does not occur with every outgoing email. It only happens 5 or 6 times per week but it is still very aggravating.

How do I fix that my preferred@icloud email is attached to the wrong Apple ID?

I have two Apple IDs. I use one of them for iTunes and the AppStore to purchase music and aps. The other is my main Apple ID for my iPhone and iPad, and I have purchased extra iCloud storage for that Apple ID.
My problem is that I have an @iCloud.com email address attached to my "main" Apple ID that I no longer want. Unfortunately, my preferred @iCloud.com email address somehow got attached to the Apple ID I use for iTunes - where I don't want it!!
Is there any way to 1) get rid of the @iCloud email I don't want? I think the answer to that is No - from what I've read, I have to create an alias email on my main Apple ID and then designate that as my mail @iCloud email. Problem I'm running into dong that is that my preferred iCloud email address has gotten attached to the other (iTunes) Apple ID, so I can't use it as an alias on the main Apple ID. It seems the solution is to delete one of the Apple ID's - my preference would be the iTunes one. But if I do that, am I correct in assuming I will lose all my purchased music and apps?
Anybody have a solution/suggestion for me? Seems everything I try to do would only dig me in deeper.

This is a somewhat recent change, but frankly there is no reason to constantly be logging out of one Apple ID and logging in with a different Apple ID.
If multiple people with different Apple ID's are regularly using the same computer, either authorize the computer for each of the Apple IDs or created unique logins on the computer for each user and have each sign in with their appropriate Apple ID.

ICloud email--help needed!

When I try to use my iCloud email, i get an error message saying, "server has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem." The contacts, notes, and calendar all work fine on my Mac as well as my iPad and iPhone. My gmail account works fine.
I am connected to another Mac in my home, so maybe there is a network problem? if so, any ideas what to do about it?
Any other suggestions?

UPDATE (25/3/12)
The issue resolved itself after about 8 hours, so evidently this was a server-side problem at Apple which only affected one of my iCloud addresses. Throughout the issue the Status report for the iCloud Server reported no problems: Apple needs to provide more accurate information on its server status.

Email rejected by size even though the attachment is under the limit

External emails coming in are being rejected with attachments over 6 megabytes even though the size limit is set to 10 megabytes.

1. Please check if other users in your organization can receive messages including 6 megabytes attachments from external.
2. There are some types of message size limits and several scope of limits. Please check the message size limits and attachment size limits in your organization, connector, server and user.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
There isn't an attachment size limit as such, the limit applies to the entire message including all attachments, which is 20 MB.
if you are using a mail application to send emails (ie not via a web browser) you may be subject to smaller limits imposed by your own ISP.

Viewing a video message through iCloud email

I Have just recently started using iCloud and I have a new situation. I received an email that says "you have received a video/photo message from xxx-xxx-xxxx." (Real ph number is listed in the email) There is no attachment in the actual email, yet it shows an attachment when listed in my inbox. Any ideas on how to extract the original attachment?

Assuming by a little box you mean an icon and not a moving picture? If so, main menu of iPod, Video, Video Settings, TV Out then set that last one to OFF.
