ICloud EMAIL specification?

Is there an iCloud EMAIL specification ...anywhere??
This seems very strange to me. I have searched the Apple knowledge base for answers to some basic questions about what can/cannot be done with iCloud Mail, but there is next to nothing available. I am talking about the SERVER SPECIFICATION here, not what any individual mail client can/can't handle.
My specific questions are (when I say "folders", Apple tend to call them "mailboxes" often):
1) What is the maximum amount of folders?
2) What is the maximum amount of characters in folder names?
3) Apart from forward-slash ("/") are there any other characters that cannot be used in folder names? (are they 'unicode' chars perhaps, or something?)
4) What is the maximum depth of nested folders?
I want to move all my email archives to iCloud IMAP (many folders)** – so they can be accessed from any of my devices and/or any computer via webmail, when wanted, instead of separate folders per email account spread across different email providers' servers.
(** I can just drag them into my iCloud account using Mail.app, and let them sync.)
Thanks in advance if you can find Apple's official word on this stuff (as an idea, it might even only be in the Dev centre Help section somewhere...perhaps?).
It just seems ludicrous that other mass email providers give such info, but Apple keep such basic stuff seemingly "hidden" away from users all the time, making decisions on possible usage thus being impossible.

...In fact this was Irish Applecare man's unhelpful email response (after over 10 days of me waiting patiently):
"Engineering have told me there are no public or developer documents explaining these limitations in iCloud.
I suggest you send a direct feedback to Apple via the feedback site
or a channel you have as a developer: http://www.apple.com/feedback "
I told you, Apple haven't a clue on the kind of info customers might need to know... same old same old, yawn.
The "support" side of Applecare usage is useless, as they tend to know nothing these days, unless it's a completely trivially easy type of question you happen to be asking them. It's just a laughable "add-on" to your product purchase if that's what you buy it for, so really if it wasn't for hardware failure cover, I really wouldn't bother.

  • Specific Gmail email address not getting through to iCloud email address

    Hi,
As of this morning I am not receiving emails sent from my wife's Gmail account to my iCloud email address. However, I can receive Gmail sent from my account to my iCloud email.  I can also receive email sent from my wife's gmx email address to my iCloud email address. So the problem seems to be with one specific Gmail address (as far as I am aware).
Any thoughts/help/advice would be much appreciated.

It seems to be a problem between Apple and Gmail mail servers. This issue is reported in many threads here and on google product forums.
Are you getting other emails from Gmail accounts? If not, then call Apple and report this: 800-275-2273
The more people that call, the more they become aware this is a widespread issue. They don't read these boards.

  • Can Multiple email accounts on Galaxy S4 sync with iCloud & non-iCloud email?

Hello… has anyone successfully set up multiple email accounts (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T/etc.) on their Samsung Galaxy S4 Jelly Bean 4.2? I searched the forums and it has been said that configuration settings depend on the combination of wireless service provider + device model + email providers + Android version.
My S4 is from AT&T and if this scenario can't work, I have to cancel my contract in a few days (although that would be the last resort). From checking the forums, not everyone has been able to get the S4 to work with iCloud. In my case, I hope to sync up with iCloud and non-iCloud email which might be trickier.
Here is one thread that helps with settings, but doesn't seem to address multiple or non-iCloud accounts: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22435596#22435596
    Some background info…
Although Gmail just works on Android devices, I plan to primarily use Apple/Yahoo/AT&T email (at least initially).
I don’t yet have Apple mail/iCloud, but plan to. I am partially switched to the Mac (Mtn Lion), but haven’t completed the jump from Windows.
I don’t have an iPhone (so hopefully that makes the setup less complicated.)
I mostly care about email on the S4 (I’m not concerned about syncing up contacts, calendar, music, etc.).
Apologies for the long post, but hopefully I’ve included the necessary background info for the questions below:
Is it possible to setup multiple (iCloud/Yahoo/AT&T) emails on the Samsung Galaxy S4 from AT&T so that they sync nicely?
From the S4, if I reply to an email, will the Sender in the email reply be the same account which received the email? Or, (as I’ve read in the excerpt below) will the Sender for all email replies from the S4 be set from a fixed/primary account?
Although the first two questions above are the most urgent for now, I'd appreciate pointers if you see something that should be changed in the configuration settings below.
    Thanks in advance!

After spending quite some time trying to get my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II setup with iCloud mail, this is what finally worked. Thanks to everyone for the various bits that helped lead me in the right direction. For those who need lots of detail, I hope the below helps. Please don't ask me about any other specific Android phones as I'm not expert but thought someone out there could benefit from my experience.
    INCOMING SERVER SETTINGS
User Name: username (do not enter @me,com or @mac.com)
    Password: (enter your password)
    IMAP server: imap.mail.me.com
    Security type: SSL
    Port: 993
IMAP path prefix: p##- (you can find this by checking your account settings on your Mac. Mine was p03- so that's what I entered here)
    Press NEXT
    OUTGOING SERVER SETTINGS
    SMTP server: smtp.mail.me.com
    Security type: TLS
    Port: 587
check the box next to "Require sign-in" if it's not already checked
User name: username  (do not enter @me.com or @mac.com)
    Password (enter your password)
    Press NEXT
Your phone will check the server settings and you should be able to see your email now.
And another poster provided these additional tips…
Definitely select SSL/TLS and accept all certificates
Now here's the zinger: Authentication should be LOGIN
After figuring this out, I finally (after many hours of searching and testing) got to my outgoing server settings, which are: smtp.me.com
    NONE for security type
    Tic "Require Sign-in"
    Authentication is PLAIN
And another poster's question about the Sender's email address for multiple accounts…
Managed to get this all set up however, Android only seems to allow you to send from your primary address and only reply from your primary address even if a mail was sent to one of the other addresses.
Any ideas how to get around this as I have three addresses beneath my primary which I need to both send from and reply from.

You're unlikely to find many people with experience of configuring multiple email accounts on a specific Samsung device, here on the Apple forum for an Apple service. Try the Samsung forums for help setting up your Samsung phone.
There are a few posts with general info relating to setting up an iCloud email account on Android here if you search though.

  • How can I use an iCloud email alias in Mailbox or other third party mail apps?

I have an iCloud email address, but prefer to use one of my aliases for sending messages. Third-party email clients like Mailbox don't seem to recognize these aliases. Has anyone had luck here, or are iCloud aliases Mail.app-only animals?

Mailboxes will handle aliases in Gmail, but not iCloud (no idea if that is in the works or not). Boxer makes no mention of aliases specifically for iCloud, but does support them in general.  I prefer Mailbox, but Boxer is a decent app.

    Hi sparkie,
You cannot change your iCloud email address. It is an @me.com address, and is associated specifically with that iCloud account. If you want a different @me address assigned, you have to delete the current iCloud account and set up a new one.

  • Using search in iCloud email (Doesn't work well)

    Hi everyone,
I'm having problems with the search feature in iCloud email.  I rely on searching for dates and other topics for my work.  I get so many emails the search feature is critical to my work.  It's gotten to the point that I forward every email that goes to my iCloud email address and have it also sent to my gmail account just so that I have a more reliable means of searching(big inconvenience!).  I'm wondering if anyone else is going through the same thing.
An example search that I would do is search for "2012-10-21."  This is a specific date format that my work uses when they email me.  In the beginning of iCloud, the search would easily work and return the proper search results.  Now, the search/results are pretty useless because it does not work at all.
It's very frustrating.  As of now, iCloud isn't really good for the business professional if it can't perform simple searches and return proper results.
It's Gmail for me right now until iCloud get's fixed.

All my other iCloud services work just fine. Mail settings show the iCloud incoming server as p01-imap.mail.me.com and is not editable. So it may be related to MobileMe migrators, but it still seems that the problem is server side?
I specifically aimed my last post at people who had migrated on a pre-Lion Mac. The fact that jeffreyfromwa was attempting to connect with the MobileMe server setting is a strong indication that he fell into this class and that this was a probable cause.
People like yourself with Lion are in a different boat (he may find himself in it when he amends his server settings): there have been numerous complaints along these lines, though it's not applicable globally. It may well be a server problem in which case there's not much you can do except wait.
People who don't post their system (that's everyone in this thread except you) make it difficult to answer since the behaviour on Lion is different from earlier systems, and the problem specific to earlier systems needs to be addressed first.

  • Changing icloud email adress in icloud profile

Hi, I know there is much on this subject on this forum but i can't find an answer to this specifically.
I want to keep my original iCloud profile
Originally I created an iCloud email adress and associated it with my iCloud account as an Alternative Email Adress
Then realised my full name was available as an email address in iCloud so I wanted that email instead
I tried to create the availble email address as a secondary address in my primary iCloud account but could't find a way.
Then I simpy created a new iCloud profile creating the preferred new email address e.g. [email protected]
The new iCloud profile is empty of course, as my real profile is another account
So I figure I can  merge the iCLoud profiles - is there a way?
Or I could simply associate the new address as an Alternate Email Address with my primary iCloud account
And here's the problem with suggestion in point 8!
As you can see below the new email address, which I own, is seen as someone else's email address.
How can I associate this new email address [email protected] with my primary icloud account???

I'm afraid you've boxed yourself into a corner by creating a new iCloud account with the address you wanted. That address is now permanently tied as the main address in the new account and there is nothing you can do to change it. You could have created an alias using that address in the older account, as suggested above, but now that option isn't available to you.
What you can do is to move over to using the new iCloud account, manually transferring your data to it. If you are also using the original address as the login for iTunes you will have to stick with that as purchases can't be moved from one account to another, but there's no problem about having different logins for iCloud and iTunes.

  • HT4865 Does iCloud email use 1024 bit or 2048 SSL encryption?

In Security Now! Podcast #441, http://twit.tv/show/security-now/411 they discuss the need for SSL encryption to move to 2048 bit to be more secure. What level of encryption is iCloud email using?

Sorry I didn't make my question specific enough. I'm referring to the encryption used in the browser while using the mail app on iCloud. I believe gmail currently uses 1024 SSL but will be changing to 2048 in several months. The reason being that a 1024 bit key can theoretically be broken my dedicated hardware (costing millions of dollars, I might add) in around one year. Listen to the link above for more details. This takes an extreme effort to crack, but given that it is possible I wanted to know what Apple does.

  • Can't send iCloud email

I've been having trouble with iCloud email. All of my devices can receive email but I can't send any messages. Tried it on Mac, iPad, iPhone and my pc... None of these work. According to the services site all mail services should be working just fine. I haven't changed any settings, except for creating an app specific password for using iCloud mail with outlook on my pc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

So after some time spent on google looking at older posts I solved the problem. Apparently its an issue with the Deutsche Telekom router W724V. I haven't found any posts regarding this problem on Apple Support though. If the "prevent email fraud" feature is enabled in the settings for W724V, it blocks connections to all SMTP servers not listed on the trusted servers list. While the icloud SMTP server is on the list for some reason it will still not allow a connection. The only viable option as of August 2013 is uncheck the "prevent email fraud" option altogether. Telekom promised a firmware update, however since this was a year ago, chances are that won't happen... I just didn't think it was the router, because connections to other SMTP servers on the trusted list, like gmail or hotmail, seem to work fine when the feature is enabled.

First, don't unsubscribe.  This only tells the spammer that your email address is valid and they will send even more.
If this is only being sent from a few specific email addresses, you can set up a rules on icloud.com similar to the image below to send them to the trash.  This describes how to set up a rule: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a3f8a.

  • New iPhone 5 not receiving (some) iCloud email

    Hi all,
I know there have been other related issues with iCloud mail, but mine is very specific.  I have a brand new iPhone 5 (my very first iPhone!).  I'm having problems with the phone receiving any iCloud based emails when sent from other than my own Macbook Pro or the iPhone itself.  Here's the specifics:
My iPhone5 will not receive any iCloud based e-mails coming from any computer or phone EXCEPT my Macbook Pro and the iPhone5 itself.
I can send e-mails to my 3 iCloud related e-mail accounts from my Macbook Pro, and the iPhone will receive these e-mails.  The Macbook Pro computer itself also receives these e-mails.  Also, e-mails sent FROM the iPhone5 using those addresses are received by the iPhone5 itself AND the Macbook Pro.
If e-mails to any of these 3 e-mail addresses are sent, apparently, from ANY OTHER computer or phone (i.e. a computer or phone other than my Macbook Pro or my iPhone5), the iPhone5 just doesn’t get those e-mails.  E-mails sent to the above 3 addresses from other computers/phones ARE received by the Macbook Pro.
Oops, I have an update.  I appear to now be getting emails to the .mac account (which is one of the iCloud emails), but those are coming from outside locally. The emails that my wife sends to me from her phone (not an iPhone, but we are both on Verizon) don't show up on my iPhone.  Neither are emails from my son, who also has an iPhone on Verizon showing up on my phone.  It was beginning to sound like a possible Verizon problem, except that my wife's computer has nothing to do with Verizon...we are connected to the Internet by Cox Communications.  This is getting more bizarre all the time!
Can anyone help me?  I have an appointment at the Genius Bar this coming weekend, but I'd like to fix this before then...

Hi there.  When I send emails form my Macbook, yes, all the emails are in my Sent folder.  I asked my wife to send me an email from her phone again this afternoon, and again, it dod not show up on my iPhone.  I logged into my iCloud account, and in this case, the emial she sent just happedn to end up in the JUnk folder on the iCloud.  I think this was just a freak, though, as she was using nonsense in the subject line, just to send me something, so the iCloud thought it was junk.  However, when I moved the mail to the inbox on iCloud, the mail showed up on my Macbook, but still did not show up on the my iPhone.  So, problem still exists.
As far as removing nad adding account, I triued that several times yesterday with Apple support on the phone.  No benefit to this, unfortunately.

An iCloud account is an iCloud account. It is not computer or iPad or iPhone specific.
    Go here -> https://iforgot.apple.com
Also, you can keep that account and simply set up an alias for email.
