Icloud emails bcc to unknown party

When I email using iCloud and people reply to my iCloud emails, a bcc goes to a person unknown to me.  I cannot blame him when he says that he is tired of being a party to my conversations.  He is not in my contacts and does not show up in the bcc line on my emails, but, yet, he is able to reply to emails I have sent and received.  Does anyone know how to find and eliminate this bcc link?

If you're saying that emails sent to YOU from a user include a bcc that includes a third party, then that address is being added at the user's end, not yours.  It doesn't matter whether this is a reply email or just an ordinary one sent from the user, the bcc field is filled in at their end.

  • How can I use an iCloud email alias in Mailbox or other third party mail apps?

I have an iCloud email address, but prefer to use one of my aliases for sending messages. Third-party email clients like Mailbox don't seem to recognize these aliases. Has anyone had luck here, or are iCloud aliases Mail.app-only animals?

Mailboxes will handle aliases in Gmail, but not iCloud (no idea if that is in the works or not). Boxer makes no mention of aliases specifically for iCloud, but does support them in general.  I prefer Mailbox, but Boxer is a decent app.

  • My iCloud email is being used by an unknown device for Facetime

I just created my iCloud email today because I wanted to sync my notes with my different devices.
Shortly after creating the account I get a notification that said something like "Your email [email protected] is being used by LenovoG460's iPad for Facetime."
I do not own a Lenovo and as far as I know, our household does not own such a machine.
I quickly changed my Apple Id's password. My question is, should I be worried? Is there anything more I can do to ensure my security? How can I find out what other devices are using my account?

They've probably mistyped their address and given yours instead (or possibly they are an idiot who thinks they own your address - sounds bizarre, but it does happen). Consequently they are not receiving the messages but you are.
There's not much you can do about it. You can't delete the address unless it's an alias. You could answer to one of the people who are trying to contact him and point out the error, but as they probably only have the erroneous address as well they won't be able to do anything unless they also have his physical address and are prepared to write to him.
Alternatively you could just set up a Rule on the iCloud website (click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose Rules) to move all messages to that address to the Trash so you won't be bothered by them, and leave him to stew in his own juice.

Thanks - its 1 month old (max), the OSX version is 10.8.4 we already have iCloud set up on my iPhone 4S & this iMac.
I try to tick mail in the cloud menu but get an error message telling me "iCloud mail couldn't be enabled from the iCloud Preference Pane. Open mail and add iCloud account from Mail preferences"
when I do that i get the message " the icloud IMAP server p15-imap.mail.me.com is not responding. Try checking the network conection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server may be temorarily unavailable.  If you continue you may not be able to recieve messgaes.

  • My iCloud email seems to link to both my account and someone else's. Has anyone else had this?

I wanted to start using my icloud email but when i opened it I had the email from apple saying @icloud was reserved for me and another email which from what I can see was sent to someone elses email account ending in @me.com.
Drove myself mad with the apple support pages as they dont just let you submit an issues unless its one thats covered in the support forms so I have to post it here instead. Has anyone else had this happen?
It could be that I have been bcc'd into the email but its not a source I know and I can only see a "to" address and no evidence that I have been cc'd or bcc'd.
    Please Help Apple

When you are Bccd there is never any access to the Bcc list - that's the point of it (so that for example you can run a mailing list without everyone seeing everyone else's addresses) - so you won't see anthing of this sort other than your address showing up in the long header (command-shift-H to view), e.g.:

  • Already registered iCloud email address

    Hello,
When I try to create an iCloud email address on my iPhone, it says it's already being used. But If I send an email to that address, I get a "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" with the message "The error that the other server returned was: 550 5.1.1 Recipient address rejected: User unknown". I think nobody is using that username and the thing is I registered a trial .mac address a few years ago with the same username. How do I take control of that username to use it with a new iCloud address?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Support Communities!

Frequently asked questions about Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5622
An Apple ID is a user name you use for everything you do with Apple. Creating an account for an Apple service, such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, creates an Apple ID. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services. You don't have to create a new account for each service—just use your Apple ID.
How do I change my Apple ID Name or personal information?
You can change your Apple ID Name at My Apple ID. Click on Manage your Apple ID and sign in with your Apple ID name and password. Click Edit and enter the new information, then click Save Changes. Changes take effect immediately. You can also use My Apple ID to change your personal information, such as your mailing address or email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.

  • ICloud email generating error SMTP has rejected address

A very strange thing just started happening this weekend.  I have been an iCloud user since it was .Mac and it's been my primary email client for years.  I receive about one new email every five minutes.  I can send and receive email from my MacBook Pro, my iphone, my iPad, and via icloud.com.  I all these platforms constantly and I've had zero issues... until yesterday.
The main email address I use is technically an alias.  It's a @me address, since that's the shortest to type.  Yesterday a co-worker informed me she had gotten this error message when trying to send me email (yet I've been receiving daily emails from her for months):
Reason: Remote SMTP server has rejected address
Diagnostic code: smtp;550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias
Sure enough, I looked and realized I had not received any email all day, and I have still not received any today.  Normally I receive several emails per hour.  I checked my mail via icloud.com and there was nothing there either.  I let it go for the rest of the day, figuring it was a server problem that Apple was working on.
This morning, however, the problem was continuing.  So I tried generating a test message from icloud.com and sent it to my main alias (my primary email address, because it's easier to remember) and also to my main icloud email, which is also a @me address.  The test email went through to my main icloud address with no problem but was rejected by the main alias with the same error message as above.
Next, I tried investigating my aliases.  I have made no changes to any settings in quite some time,  but this is what I found.  When I checked my email aliases (I have 3 @me alliases beyond my main icloud id) on icloud.com, they had all vanished.  Then I looked at the icloud advanced settings on my iphone.  I saw that all the @me aliases remained, however my main @me alias was grayed out.
And that's where I'm at now.  I thought for sure this was an Apple server problem, but I haven't seen any other messages reporting the problem, so I'm not sure how to proceed.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help!

    Hi Fly Line,
My world has gone eerily quiet too.
I am in exactly the same situation but mine is an old @mac address
So like you, the main email address I use is an @mac.com alias. I get lots of emails every day for work.  They all stopped coming to this alias yesterday (June 6th)
Mail was behaving oddly, but I was too busy to work out what was happening.
I've just discovered that all my original @mac alliases have disappeared from Mail on my iMac and also have disappeared when I log into iCloud via Safari
The aliases are showing up on my iPhone, but as you have said, the primary email address (mine is an @mac adddress) is greyed out. I'm not sure if that's just because it's the primary address.
The aliases ARE showing up on my Macbook Pro.
I tried sending an email from both the iMac and the Macbook. Both returned the message "The server response was: unknown or illegal alias: alias"
I havent changed any settings either.  I can't help you as I am at a complete loss. I may try calling Apple on Monday. I'll let you know if I come up with anything. It would be great to hear from you if you have found a solution

  • Merging Mailboxes / Changing iCloud email

    Hi,
Basically all I want is to access my @verizon.net email on iCloud.com. I have an iPhone 4 (7.1.2), so I went to Settings --> iCloud and turned everything on. It asked for my Apple ID and password so then I went to iCloud.com and signed into Mail to find everything empty as though I set up a brand new account. I did Reset Data on iCloud.com and turned everything off then back on, still nothing was merged. I did Delete this account twice and added it back twice, still the same.
Logged in to my iCloud.com mail, if I go to Settings --> Preferences --> Accounts, my email is listed as @icloud.com instead of @verizon.net.
Also, on my iPhone if I go to Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> under accounts, iCloud and Verizon are listed --> iCloud --> Account --> on the bottom under Advanced it says the @iCloud email and it's grayed out.
Hopefully someone can help or point me in the right direction. Thanks!

You can't access 3rd party email accounts via iCloud.com.  Only iCloud email accounts can be accessed there.  If you want to access your Verizon account online go to Verizon's email website: https://webmail.verizon.com/signin/

How do I setup my iCloud email account to also receive email going to my window pc outlook email account and also my gmail account?

You can't do that within your iCloud Mail settings, you'd need to forward the mail from the individual 3rd party accounts.

  • HT4899 I have NEVER used my icloud email address and am now getting spam mail to services I have NEVER signed up to.  Should I conclude from this that Apple have sold my details on?

I have NEVER used my icloud email address and am now getting spam mail to services I have NEVER signed up to.  Should I conclude from this that Apple have sold my details on?
To tell me to mark it as spam is just not good enough.  I do not want this rubbish cluttering my inbox.

Nobody want to receive spam, but it's a fact of life. Apple is certainly not selling your address on to spammers, and it's possible that the spammer has been guessing at possible addresses and has hit on yours.
A good third-party program for dealing with spam is SpamSieve - after a training period it's very good at identifying spam and shunting it to a Spam folder where you can check it and delete at your leisure. It works with iCloud.

  • HT4864 Samsung S3 won't display/sync icloud emails

I just got a Samsung S3, and when I set up email to sync with my iCloud accounts it loaded in fine.  After a day or so I noticed that only my primary email address was synching to the S3 - the other alias account folders had disappeared.
I manually synched it and they returned, only to all disappear a day or so later.  Since then I've not been able to get them to re-sync.
I checked the MAIL settings and duplicated them on the S3, but nothing works.  Now the original email isn't synching either.  What must I do to make this work?  My main emails are all under me.com.
Note: I also have a gmail account that syncs fine, and now the only way I can see my me.com emails on my phone is to bcc them to gmail.
    Thanks in advance

Scratch that.  I still need help.
After setting up the new iCloud email account on Mac Mail, I could see my iCloud emails and notes for about five minutes.  Now I'm back to only seeing them in the listing column-- sender, subject and first couple lines of text.  When I click or double click on them to view the entire message, I get the never-ending spinner and "Loading""
Can anyone help?  I want to be able to use Mac's own mail program to view and use Mac's own email service.

  • ICloud email alias' not receiving email

i have two email alias' brought over from mobileme.com into icloud
they are imported and showing in my icloud email alias' list. however, when i email to those addresses (@me.com) the emails end up in the mailer-daemon world.
    any thoughts?

OK I think I have this figured out here. Looks like a case of operator error on this end in the beginning. Sorry for all the detail below, but if it helps anyone I hope it is worth it.
    1. Per suggestion of Carolyn Samit elsewhere, I went into Apple>System Preferences>Internet and Wireless>iCloud and deselected Mail and Notes. I then repeated the above, but toggled the Mail and Notes back on.
    2. I sent another test message to my iCloud alias address, per the routine set out in the first post above, with a BCC back to me, which immediately appeared in the MacBook Pro Mail Inbox.
    3. I left the Sent message in the Sent folder, and the BCC in the Inbox.
    4. I then signed into iCloud and opened Mail.
    5. Lo and Behold, my test message was in both the Sent folder and the Inbox in iCloud Mail.
Lesson to be learned from the different process I had used earlier -- iCloud mimics exactly what I had previously done on my MacBook Pro (which was not detailed above because it did not seem important at the time). Previously, after sending a test email, I immediately moved the Sent message into a special folder on the MacBook Pro, and also immediately moved the BCC copy in the Inbox into the same special folder in Mac Mail.
iCloud mimic'd these moves, so when I went there in the early stages of this  process (after having already moved two emails into special folders on the laptop), there were no emails to be seen at iCloud.
This last time just now, I left the emails in my Inbox and Sent folders at the laptop, and they WERE in the corresponding folders at iCloud.
Now, to toggle off Mail and Notes in Apple System Preferences and see what happens?
    Good night . .

  • Does icloud email support the DMARC standard?

    Hello,
Does icloud email support the DMARC standard?  Some of the emails that come into my icloud.com should an unknown dmarc status in the headers.  For example:
    pass=?; dmarc-policy=(noPolicy); s=; d=
is contained in the header of some emails.   I send the same email to a gmail account and it shows dmarc setup properly.  Are their special rules for icloud for DMARC?

If I'm not mistaken, GMail is more robust in allowing you control over whether you automatically reply using the address to which a message was sent, to avoid inadvertently revealing your real or main address when dealing with mail from aliases, unless iCloud does that by default (I've only used this type of feature through GMail but was tending to my old Mac.com address and ran across your post...).

I am unable to set up any 3rd Party email client with iCloud email. I have looked at the instructions at Apple with no success. I just spent an hour on the phone with support and they tell me this in not their problem. Yet Outlook, thunderbird all say it is their problem so flustering.

  • HT204053 how can i move an icloud email address from one ipod to another?

    Hi
My kids have ipods and wanted icloud activated.  Foolishly I set up an icloud email account but used my son's name on my daughter's ipod.  How can I switch the icloud email account to my son's ipod?
    Thanks,

I don't really understand iCloud, but I have an Apple ID since both my kids are underage (8 and 11).  They share my Apple ID, but have different Ipods.  Can/Should I have separate iCloud emails for them?  To recap, I have 1 Apple account, but have 2 kids, a boy and a girl.  How do I have separate id's for their individual ipods using icloud when I have one Apple ID?
