ICloud. Even worse than MobileMe.

Picked up a new iPhone 4S and moved my MobileMe account to iCloud. Push email notifications no longer work. All attempts to configure my desktop email client to connect over IMAP fail with username/password error messages. Trying to view iCloud in a browser the site just sits there, perpetually loading with the same old familiar spinner.
Apple, I thought iCloud was supposed to *fix* the problems with MobileMe, not add to them.

"Sorry but the analyst is in the US and won't be available for another 6 hours".
Not good enough, I asked for it to be treated by someone in Europe.
Why not propose that someone in Europe looks at it instead of saying that the analyst isn't available? Plus, she said that she'd look and see if they had enough resources to deal with the SR. Sorry but this bs didn't happen 3 or 4 years ago. I can't say to MY clients that Oracle haven't got the resources to fix a problem.
Good product, bad support.

  • Support getting even worse than before

3 days, and support haven't even acknowledged my SR. Does anyone else feel that its getting even worse than it already was?

  • 1.2 for OSX even worse than 1.1

What's wrong with 1.2? I've just installed this on OSX and it's showing the wrong tables in my schemas, including an entry <null> as a table. In one schema it's showing no tables at all, yet I know there are about 30 tables... I reverted to 1.1 (trying all 3 patches) - they're showing incorrect information too - (this time too many tables in the schemas - I think it's treating some synonyms as if they were tables) - and the <null> table entries still showing.
I've gone right back to 1.0 which is what I had running originally. That's working fine.
I can't believe this code got through QA - or maybe it's just a reflection of how much Oracle cares about Apple (let's hope not - I'm still hoping a version of XE for OSX might eventually arrive).

    Hello,
I'm running 1.2.1 on Mac OS X 10.4.10 on G5 1.8Ghz 1Gb RAM, fully patched. JRE reports the following version:
    java version "1.5.0_07"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_07-164)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_07-87, mixed mode)
After downloading 1.2.1, deleting ~/.sqldeveloper and deleting 1.2 install, it behaves the same way as 1.2. It takes 20 seconds for the query window to show up after connecting to 'Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit' listed in 'Version Banner' report.
Tables are cut off by a <NULL> table after listing 10 tables, as are views. Interestingly, Indexes are not affected and all are listed.
After quitting 1.2.1 I've noticed a few things happen on my system. In my home directory a new file was created called java0.log with the following contents:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="MacRoman" standalone="no"?>
    <!DOCTYPE log SYSTEM "logger.dtd">

    <thread>11</thread>
    <message>_getTableData</message>

    </record>
    </log>
Further examination of the system logs revealed these stack traces:

  • MOVED: New card returned from RMA process, even worse than the first

This topic has been moved to MSI Video Cards.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=160823.0

that looks like neerly every faulty GTX 570 ive ever seen, looks like you have got a faulty unit all together! its not limited to MSI its with all 570 units.
seems like Nvidia have made some very defective gpu's in the gtx 570 series of graphics cards that fail very easily! i would rma the card again as that looks so bad!
i know you PSU is perfectly good as its a TX750m and that has more then enougth!
you have been very unlucky with the graphics card. if the next rma comes back as just as bad i would get another gpu thats not a GTX 570

  • IPhone 3GS with fw 3.1 – battery life gets even worse

I've made the so long attended upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1 and strangely battery life has got even worse than before. The phone is using 10-12% of the battery every hour of standby; usage counter grows by 35-40 minutes for every hour of standby. This happens with a clean install and just email setup (mobileme with push), with restore or partial restore. Turning push off only makes it slightly better.
I was wondring if I were the only one experiencing this...

This is not even funny Jason... Really.
I now have a completely clean phone, installed anew through DFU. Now backups restored. Just setup my mobileme email on it and installed 2 (two) applications. iSip and DevInfo. Having push notifications and push email enabled, I'm loosing power at a rate of *8%/hour while in standby*.
Restoring my backup (which, by the way, is not an "option" but a rather important continuity pre-requisite) lets me have the same horrible battery performance. Turning push notifications and mail push off and booting the phone after that makes battery drain disappear (~1% every 1.5 hours).
Apple declares that using "Push" drains the battery 20% more. Even if this is an approximation, we're not even close to approximately 20% or 30% or even 40% increase. We're talking about battery drain growing 12-fold!
So pray try to help us – poor users – instead of repeating the link we've all seen thousands of times and that, frankly, has very little to do with how our iPhones perform in real life.
    Thank you.

  • The quality of built-in camera on macbook pro with retina display is far worse than any other mac. Why?

I just got the new macbook pro with retina display like a week ago and I've been noticing that the quality of the built-in camera on it is so bad.
It's even worse than my 2009 iMac or my sister's 2012 13" macbook pro. I don't get why this is a facetime HD built-in camera when i can obviously see that is not even near HD. Or is it just my computer. Do i have to bring it to the apple store??

it's advertised 720p so yes it is the same as all the other MBP.  it may just be the resolution of your monitor is stretching the pixels.  Don't worry about bringing it to the apple store.

  • Replaced display even WORSE !!!

*I am so frustrated with Apple and its policy to repair and replace their defective products.*
Ok, my iMac G5 is almost three years, I bought AppleCare, which is about to expire... that's my main concern as my iMac display started to go bad these last months. Screen became lighter and lighter in the bottom, to the point of:
In Photoshop, if I select a solid color in a document that is at the top side of my screen, then I drag the same document and select the same color at the bottom side of my screen, Photoshop will identify it as two distinct colors, even being the same document... the same solid color!!! And I work as a graphic and web designer... unacceptable!!!!!!
*My screen was going really bad...* not just the gradually lighter screen at the bottom, but it started to show ghost images, as those images we used to see in older CRT monitors. I took a couple pictures of those ghost images where the little apple logo was seen on the top left hand side of my screen, and presented it to Apple when I brought my computer.
*Ok... AppleCare, Apple agreed to replace my LCD ... that should be it! But it wasn't!*
Yesterday I stopped by at the North Michigan Av store in Chicago to pick up my iMac and I got surprised my iMac display was replaced by one that had more problems than the previous already defective display I brought in!!! This time the display had dark spots on both lower corners of the screen as if the lights were weaker, and there was also a small darker spot on the center of the screen, as if the pixels or the lights underneath it were getting weaker as well.
I said I wouldn't take it home... no chances, that's my work tool and the reason *I bought AppleCare was exactly to make sure at least for three years I'd be covered for any issue.*
The Genius guy even told me I wouldn't have to expect things to be 100%, and that there are things that can escape their control... that's ridiculous! *I told him NOTHING can escape Apple's control if I have AppleCare*... the computer has a problem and I expect the problem to be either fixed or have my iMac replaced. Not my fault Apple doesn't produce the iMac 17 inches any more. It really seems that Apple is fixing these iMacs using possibly returned LCDs from old iMacs. Oh! I forgot to say that the LCD was kind of warped and it didn't fit perfectly inside the unit, leaving some gaps on the corners. The Genius guy called it "cosmetic" details and that he wouldn't guarantee that the new LCD would be perfectly fitting inside the iMac but his concern was the brightness.
I just bought a really CHEAP LCD monitor for my Mac mini ... 150 bucks and the screen brightness is solid and consistent... the same I would expect from an Apple product.
I told the Genius guy I WOULDN'T accept a display that's brighter at the bottom with the excuse my computer is 3 years old and can't be perfect. That's why Apple sells AppleCare ... and I don't care if it's almost three years! My iMac is still under the warrant for another month!
*I am really frustrated and mad I don't have my work tool* and I see Apple trying to fix my computer with parts that are even worse than the original defective one.
There is even an iMac G5 Repair Extension Programme for Video and Power Issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
...and it's applicable in my case.
Forgot to say when I bought my iMac 3 years ago I had my Super Drive replaced the first week because it couldn't read DVDs.
    <Edited by Moderator>
    *Really disappointed!*
    Anyone experiencing the same?
    *Thanks for any response!*

    RESOLVED!!!!!!!!
    NEW iMAC!!!
I was so frustrated... I went to pick up my iMac and the third screen was even worse than the second... that was worse than the first...
The Genius guy tried to push me the defective screen again... saying she couldn't see any problem ... that the screen seemed to be fine!
I didn't want to waste my time again and asked for the store manager... a very polite young guy... he listened to my story and offered to have the screen replaced again... it'd be the fourth screen! plus the SuperDrive issue that wasn't even reported by the person who talked to me on the phone last time... She assured me she had entered this extra information on the repair ticket...
After (I believe) he saw my sincere frustration on having to work with a screen that isn't close to Apple's standards... *he decided to give me a new machine*!
I was SO FRUSTRATED! I told him I don't have ANY GAME on my machine! I use it only to create my artwork... *it is my work tool*... and I went with Apple the first time because of the *quality of the products*!
And with my warrant almost expiring I was afraid I would end up with a bad computer in a couple months!
Apple didn't lose a machine by doing that but just kept a *happy customer* who will be back in a couple years for a *higher end product* and will talk well about the company!
Really happy but much more... *FEELING RESPECTED*!
    Thanks Miriam... you were right...
    *POLITE but FIRM*

  • 10.5.3: Server Mail gets even worse, kills incoming SMTP

I did an update to 10.5.3 using the stand-alone installer and, after the delay and restarts Apple warned about, I was presented with the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD). After an hour and confirmation of no hard drive head movement for at least two minutes, I forced a shut down with the power button. Restarted fine and web back on line. Not a confidence-inspiring update. Actually, it's the first time I've seen Server updates do this.
Then there's Mail. It's now even worse than in 10.5.2. It did not work in 10.5.0, or 10.5.1, or 10.5.2. I was so hoping that Apple would finally make this service work. No such luck. 'Upgrading' turned off SMTP incoming, and there's no way to get it on. Every time I click the button and Save, the button simply unchecks itself.
In my 26 years as an exclusively Apple user (bigot, actually), I've NEVER seen Apple release software as insanely, woefully buggy as Leopard Server. I've seen a few iffy Apple software products, but never anything even approaching this. I'm told that Tiger Server is way better, but my licence is for Leopard.
The upgrade notes do not speak of ANY of the bugs I've reported in Mail since 10.5.0, and there's (naturally) no indication the the upgrade may kill Mail, which it does in my case.
Where does one go to get one's money back, and where does one send the invoice for all the time Apple has wasted by non-consensually making me a beta (alpha) tester of the (ahem) 'bullet-proof, enterprise-level' product? Does Apple not understand that our businesses are at stake, because we base our businesses on reliable, enterprise capable software? Given my experiences with Leopard Server, I just don't see how Apple can claim Server is remotely suitable for enterprise use.
    Grrrr.

If you make manual edits, then it's key to back them up prior to an update.
It turns out that this is not the problem with either of the issues I encountered.
It's also advisable, to test any update in advance using a non-production server/box
prior to installing it on a production server.
Good advice, but in the two problems I identified in master.cf, a backup would not have helped.
One claim is that the 10.5.3 update makes a change to /etc/services - however:
Not from me. 10.5.3 does cause a situation, however, where on needs to adjust that file to remove error messages in the log.
having a brief look at the contents of the Combo updater (which should include all updated items in/of any 10.5.x update thus far), I don't see anything that changes /etc/services.
This file did not change on my box. It was still dated in Sept., 2007, but the entry for port 465 had to be changed from urb to smtps to make the errors go away.
Maybe it's incredibly well-hidden or I've looked right past it many times, but it doesn't show itself.
Given that services did not change, and master.cf works (after a fashion) in 10.5.3, it seems that the change was made elsewhere during the update. There have been hints by some that they know what the problem is, but they have yet to 'share.'
but again, I'm looking at the comb updater right now.
Which is what I used, all 633 MB of it.

  • Whatever VZW installed on my SG3 today... messed it up even worse...

Not sure what happened today... but there were some updates to my phone, that I DID NOT ask for... now it is messed up even worse than when the latest version of Android was installed in January.... back to the same old messages about wi-fi not being reliable, battery drain,   Hey VZW... what did you do to my phone today?... and you did not even give me a choice..... and I cannot figure out how to back out of what you did to me....
Does anyone know what they may have downloaded and installed on our phones today?
    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Elector... you are soooo correct... but I am assuming that VZW has 'some' control over what is released over their network to the phones they support... but maybe that is a bad assumption... and I am blaming Samsung for the Android FW release they deployed in Dec/Jan... but again, all of the carriers are impacted... and each of them holds some of the blame for the new FW ... as they each did NOT fully do a good beta test on the FW or they would NOT be having all of the complaints that they are receiving now... that's all I am saying... if VZW (and the other carriers) want to maintain a solid customer base, they need to (a) be extremely careful as to what they allow to be distributed and (b) to adequately beta test the release to determine if there are side effects.. as in this case.... and finally (c) keep the users informed of any issues and estimated time for a 'fix'... not too much to ask... IMHO

  • IPad 1st gen with iOS 5 is worse than Vista - Downgrade?

I have a 1st generation 3G iPad. I updated to ios 5. iOS 5 has rendered my iPad nearly unusable. Honestly, this is upgrade is WORSE than Vista. Apple should be ashamed of releasing a major OS upgrade that renders a whole generation of machines unusable.
Yes, I have tried nearly everything. I have "restored" and I have rebooted numerous times.
The thing that is the most frustrating about this is that before the ios5 update my iPad was the highest quality computing experience I had ever had. Now it is the WORST computing experience I have ever had. Every single application crashes. Typing is dead slow. The iPad hangs. Videos will not play or will play audio only, or will crash on load.
Again, I have restored, and rebooted numerous times. APPLE should be ashamed of this!!!!

iCloud does this from time to time. It usually is a result of a corrupt contact or calendar entry. Killed the battery and performance on my 3GS, 4, 4S, iPad (first gen), and even my MacBook Pro until I found the corrupt contact and deleted it. No problems since.
Also, to the OP, just because a few people have problems, doesn't mean that it "renders a whole generation of machines unusable." I have 6 first gen iPads in my family and all are working fine... Try resetting, restoring from backup, and restoring as new. see what happens then...

  • New Channel Guide is Even Smaller Than Before

We have two TVs connected to Verizon FiOS. One TV is on a DVR and the other is simply on a set-top box. The TV on the set-top box has a channel guide that shows seven channels over 2 1/2 hours in full HD (9x16) format. It has always been superior and doesn't seem to have changed with the Feb. 4 update. The channel guide on the TV with the DVR used to show only six channels over 1/12 hours in old 3x4 format. The Feb. 4 upgrade made it even worse, now it only shows five channels over 1/12 hours in 3x4 format. All we want is for the channel guide at the DVR to be as good as the one with the set-top box. I tried and tried to change settings on the TV and DVR but cannot fix it. I phoned Verizon technical support and was told that our Motorola DVR simply cannot accommodate the guide that our Motorola set-top box does. He added that the service in our area cannot change to Cisco or other DVRs that might support better guides. We should not pay the premium for a DVR when it has a poorer channel guide than a set-top box. It is hard to understand why Motorola would produce a better set-top box than DVR, if the set-top box and DVR are really the culprits.
We like to view at least six channels at a time so we can see all the broadcast channels in our area at a time; we like to view more than 1 1/2 hours at a time so we can see later times without shifting so much; and we prefer to have a full 9x16 HD guide when we are paying for HD service.
We were told that our Motorola DVR cannot support a channel guide that shows seven channels over 2 1/2 hours in full HD format, like our Motorola set-top box does. Is this correct? What can we do about it?
Do other regions have better guides with their DVRs? Why?
If you can provide us with an effective solution, we would be appreciative. If not, then please submit this as a complaint to your closed-loop corrective and preventive action system and notify us accordingly by email.

So I just checked my STBs.
    I have a 7100P2 HD STB and a 7232 HD DVR.
    Both show 7X2.5 hours.
What model DVR do you have.
The 6416 does not support a HD guide and will show less channels that a 72XX series DVR.

  • Premiere Elements 8 is worse than useless to me

I have to admit, I can't explain why I'm still trying to make Premiere Elements 8 work.  I should have given up and moved to another software program by now.  I've been on the phone twice with the Customer Service group in India, for over half an hour at a time.  Each time they insist they've solved my problem, yet it keeps getting worse.  Now, I'm not only having uncontrolled and unexplained system crashes, but hours and hours of work are now corrupted and totally wasted.
Here is a list of the problems I'm having:
    1.  The primary problem is that Premiere Elements 8 crashes and shuts down in the middle of work with no warning or notice.  It happens after about 3-5 minutes of using the software, so I've gotten in the habit of saving my work every time I do anything, no matter how small.  Needless to say, you can chart my progress with a sundial.  Tedious does not do the process justice.
    2.  When I save the work, I will get a Project Save Error. It tells me to save to a new location.  Of course, it won't let me do that, so I have to exit the program without saving my most recent work.  Again, this happens about every 3-5 minutes.
    3.  Occasionally, when I'm working with a timeline, as I move the cursor up to the menus at the top of the screen, if I am selecting the File or Edit menu, the timeline will scroll left on its own - if I move the cursor off of the Edit or File menu, the scrolling stops.
    4.  When I am working on a timeline, I will get a "System Memory Running Very Low" warning, along with advice to save immediately and proceed with caution.  Of course, when I get that warning, it is already too late, as any attempt to save the work causes the program to crash.
    5.  Today, we've seen a new thing, and it's completely destroyed two entire projects.  When I try to open projects I've previously worked on, large sections of them appear as blood red with the words "Media Offline" in a number of languages.  These red sections appear not only on the organizer, but in the timeline as well.  It's as if Premiere Elements 8 can't find the media I copied into the timeline even though I've been working on the project for days and have not moved the media from the folder where it always sits.
Saving work after every task - no matter how small - makes doing anything painfully slow and mind-numbingly tedious, but at least it worked - until today.  Now, hours and hours of work have been rendered absolutely wasted.  I've never encountered a software program with so many fundamental problems.  It's almost as if it was created by amateurs.  I can honestly say that it does nothing well.
As I said, I've been on the phone twice now with the problem solving group in India, and while they are very nice and courteous, they've done nothing to solve the problems.  In fact, the problems have become worse, although I can't say it's because of anything they've done.  Both times, they've assured me that they've fixed the problems, and the software works fine while I am on the phone with them - for about 2 or 3 minutes.  But then, it works fine for me for the same length of time.
To be honest, I'm not sure why I would call them back.  I'll spend an hour clicking on tabs only to be assured that my problems have been solved. Then, 5 minutes later I'm dealing with the same situation - or worse.
I've tried every solution listed on-line for the crashes.  I have the 8.01 update, I have the latest video drivers, I've done all of the steps it recommends.  Every day that I use the software, it performs worse than the day before.
I'm not sure why I'm writing this - I think I've reached the end of my rope.  I doubt these problems can be fixed - maybe I just have a defective copy, who knows.  But, I am very close to demanding my money back and saying goodbye to Adobe products for the future.

  • Video output quality worse than AppleTv 1

Anyone else who owns an atv1 found video looks worse?
I'm not talking about actual video playback but the video output on 2
AppleTV1 looked great through my plasma even though it's not full HD
1080p over hdmi on 1 scaled by the plasma consistently looked best, with crisp but smooth edges to text and GUI.
Atv2 720p over hdmi looks consistently worse - it all looks oversharpened and over contrasty, with text in particular looking very jagged as well as the spinning timer wheel looking pixellated now
Watching a slideshow there seemed to be visible artefacts as some images moved or scaled whereas atv1 just looked silky smooth
Maybe the current GUI text and icons are not as smooth, maybe less antialiasing, poorer quality gpu
Maybe my plasma downscales 720p worse than 1080p - I need to check on the full HD set in another room but first impressions are not that good
Video playback seems strangely artificial too, almost as though the frame rate has been sped up slightly
Weird as the set should handle 50/60Hz without issue

So a few days in it's growing on me.
There's definitely something different about menu graphics but actual video quality for playback is excellent though I'm not sure it's not dropping/catching up frames at times.
I've watched some HD movie trailers and they look excellent.
Video navigation is considerably improved over ATV1, with FF / RW actually working reasonably well when they didn't before over the same connection. Changing chapters gives immediate starts and buffering seems considerably quicker - at least some of this must be due to newer hardware.
I don't like the top level menu much and preferred the older system but you can pretty much stay in Computers to watch own content.
Video playlists don't work properly which is poor but it took ages to get them enabled on ATV1.
There are many glitches but hopefully they'll get ironed out over time.
