ICloud for Windows Version 4.0 Photostream broken

Following the installation of iCloud for Windows Version 4.0 my photostream has stopped updating on my PC.  All shared photostreams appear to be fine.  My photostream is still working on myother apple devices and apple TV.  I have turned my photo stream on and off, uninstalled and re-installed deleted all of the files in the C:/Users/Name/AppData/Roamin/Apple Computer/MediaStream and uninstalled and re-installed. All with no improvement.
Is this a bug in version 4.0?

This workaround will work until Apple fixes the Windows software issue
You need to add at least one photo uploaded to Photo stream from a Mac first. If you don't have a Mac, login to iCloud on your PC, then either borrow a Mac for two minutes, go to an Apple Store or any other store that sells Macs
1. Make sure you are logged into iCloud on your Windows PC and Photo Steam is enabled
2. Find a Mac (Borrow from a friend or a retailer. You only need 10 minutes or less to do this).
3. Go to System Preferences (The gears icon) or you can select System Preferences... from the Apple menu at the top left of the screen
4. Click on iCloud and log into your iCloud account (uncheck the syncing options)
5. Open iPhoto
6. From the "Share" menu at the top of the screen, click iCloud
7. Click Use iCloud
8. Click on Photos in the toolbar at the left and drag a photo to iCloud under the heading "Shared" in the toolbar
9. Stop sharing and Log Out of iCloud on the Mac (see instruction that follows)
IMPORTANT: When you've copied an image to your iCloud Photo Steam, DON'T FORGET TO STOP SHARING FROM THE MAC AND LOG OUT
a. From the iPhoto menu within iPhoto, select Preferences
b. Click on the iCloud icon in System Preferences
c. Uncheck the "My Photo Stream" box
d. Now go to System Preferences (The gears icon) or you can select System Preferences... from the Apple menu at the top left of the screen
e. Click on iCloud and log out of your iCloud account
IF YOU LEAVE AND FORGET TO LOGOUT!
Change your Apple ID password ASAP
https://appleid.apple.com/
Back at your PC, you need to click on iCloud Photos in the Windows tool bar, then right-click on My Photo Stream and choose "Add photos..."
If you try to add them by dragging to the directory location, as was previously possible with the iCloud Control Panel, it does not work.
NOTE:
You cannot add photos that are already inside the "My Photo Stream" directory by using the "Add photos..." file open dialog. It will add them, but in a very inconsistent way. For example, I tried clicking "Add photos..." and selected 12 photos that were already in the "My Photo Stream" directory, but only 5 were actually added to My Photo Stream and iCloud for Windows only showed the first one, of the 12 images I added. However, when I moved the images to the desktop and then added them using "Add photos...", they all appeared in Photo Stream as expected.

  • Icloud for windows

can i install i cloud on my pc? Can i receive remeinder?

Well, the disappointment continues with the latest release of iCloud for Windows version 4.1.  Have never been able to install the previous release (4.0.2) - the installation program runs, then ultimately reports that there was a problem with the "installation package", then the install quits and backs out.  I was very optimistic that Apple would address this problem with their new release, but - Alas - the identical problem persists.
Apple ... if you are listening - please address this issue.  Either issue a release that programs the problem out, or provide step by step instructions if there is something we need to do/run on our PCs running Windows 7 64 bit in order to successfully install the new release.  Thank you!

  • Photostream not working on PC icloud for windows

Since the ios8 update and the icloud for windows update at the same time, I can not get photostream to work on my PC.  I have tried all the tips I've found so far-signing out and back in, doing a repair, completely deleting and reinstalling, turning photostream on/off on my phone, and so on.. Sometimes when I do some of these things, a photo or two will be uploaded, but never have I simply taken a picture and it uploaded to photostream on my computer. Now it seems even doing these tricks won't add any new photos. Any tips that  I am missing? Anyone else having this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Same here.
I've always struggled to get iCloud to work reliably. After removing the iCloud software over 12 months ago, I thought it might be worth another try with the latest version. But, only four pictures were downloaded before it gave up the ghost.
I'm using Windows 8.1 (32 Bit) on my desktop and Windows 7 Starter on my Netbook. Same problem on both operating systems.

  • Anyone else having an issue with TCP connections using iCloud for Windows?

    Hi,
Before I asked this question, I did wait to see if any related questions came up, but none did, so I submit it now.
On my admittedly older laptop running Windows 7 64b Home, I've run into difficulties with the iCloud for Windows app to the extent that I had to uninstall it.
It would that, as my laptop was running, in the background, iCloudServices.exe would endlessly iterate TCP connections, which, while not actively sending or receiving any data, after some hours would number over 100 instances, taking up resources, and grinding my laptop's WiFi connection to a grindingly slow pace. I ended up, within the app, turning off everything, iCloud Drive and Photos, (I never used bookmarks), but still this would continue to occur.
I contacted Apple Support, explaining what was going on, and they stated they only dealt with IOS and gave me a Microsoft Support number. When I called Microsoft support, I came more and more to the realization that the issue was specifically with the iCloud for Windows app, as that was the only software that was endlessly creating and not closing TCP connections as it was. How was Microsoft supposed to solve an issue with Apple code?
So I called Apple back, whereupon they insisted it was a Microsoft issue. I explained other cloud services installed on the same computer were not having the same issue, it was unique to ICloudServices.exe. They stated they only dealt with IOS. I stated I purchased an iPad Air less than 7 months ago, and was trying to run iCloud in support of that.  They again stated they only dealt with IOS, and suggested I again try Microsoft. I asked them if it was reasonable to expect Microsoft to solve issues with Apple code? They said regardless, there was zero support offered for anything having to do with Windows, and all I could do was uninstall the app, which I did, though that did not feel very satisfactory to me. My thinking is, if Apple writes a Windows app in support of their hardware, they should offer support for it.
Anyway, I was just wondering, is this an issue unique to me? or have others experienced a similar issue? I found this issue by opening the Windows Resource Monitor, looking under the Networking tab, and scrolling through the TCP Connections section to find 100+ concurrent iCloudServices.exe instances listed, whereas even Chrome, with multiple tabs and extensions, topped out at around 20.
My one month old Desktop, DYI, sports a solid Asus 1150 MoBo, i7-4790k cpu, 16GB Ram, and an EVGA GTX 970 video card. I list some specs only to illustrate this computer has no hardware issues in comparison to my long in tooth laptop. On this desktop, running Win 8.1 Pro 64b,  at least as many, identifiably Apple, background service TCP connections are created even compared to Chrome, regardless of many tabs being open, many extensions, and even some related apps. Adobe does not even come close, though I run the full CC subscription. On this new computer, running Windows 8.1 Pro 64b, there are currently over 50 TCP connections and loopbacks that do not identify themselves, with just a - for the Image, and PID. With the experience on my laptop, I wonder how many of these are generated by Apple software, if not specifically iCloud software?
The frustrating aspect of these connections is they seem in no way active, While the Chrome and Adobe connections can be seen to be transferring data, as long as I am not running iTunes, or so have my iPad actually plugged in, it seems 99% of the time these iCloudServices.exe connections are just taking up ports, neither sending nor receiving any data discernable to me under the Processes with Network Activity, or Network Activity lists, both displayed in the same window as the TCP Connections in the Windows Resource Monitor.
Though I am fairly ignorant as regards coding, it seems as if there is no call to close a connection, very specifically, iCloudServices.exe, when it is no longer needed, and the next time a connection is needed, a new one is opened, rather than accessing the one previously opened. The only other reason I could imagine this might be occurring is if my Norton Internet Security software might mask and/or block the port after a certain time of inactivity.
Anyone out there have any ideas or advice about this? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks jared,
I'm still dealing with this issue through Apple. Some time after I posted this, I contacted Apple again. They did start a case up for me, as I was experiencing the same behavior on two different machines, with two different versions of Windows.
So far it remains unsolved. I've logged iClouds for Windows on my desktop, which is brand new, then logged for awhile after completely uninstalling Norton Security Suite, depending on the Microsoft security for some time, and finally logged after I uninstalled iCloud for Windows, restarted, installed a clean download, and connected using a completely different test account, which Apple set up for me. None of this made any difference. Looking at the logs, it seems every 10 minutes, iCloudServices.exe creates a new TCP connection to confirm I'm using less than 5GB on iCloud, (which I am by a good margin, using less than 2GB), it seems this connection is not closed, and when the next iteration rolls around 10 minutes later, a new TCP connection is created. I come very close to having 6 TCP connections created per hour, until I restart my computer. This works out to... 6 x 24 = 144/day.
Perhaps the article you posted will shed some further light on this. I'm thinking seeing the state of the connection through netstats, at the least, could help.
For the last week, I've been putting a hold on further logging, as Apple wants me to create a new user account on one of my computers, install iCloud for Windows there, and log it running in the other account. This however basically means I cannot use my computer for a fair number of hours, and I've been busy enough with work the past week that I haven't the time or energy to afford to set this up and run it. I've had need of my computers too much for the past week.

  • HT6413 I cannot download icloud for windows 7

I am not able to update icloud for windows 7 - I get an error message every time that tells me there is something wrong with the windows installer.  I have had Apple support help me and still I have the same issue.

Having same problems as LargeMarge67. Tried everything including your advice to no avail. It gets worse, took I phone and lap top to the Apple Genius Bar at Brighton. Instead of sorting out the Itunes download on my lap top first, they updated the software on my iphone to the new IOS5 via their Pcs. they told me the itunes issue was a microsoft one and I could call apple care when I get home.
Well I did that - on the phone for hours - they told me to uninstall itunes and reinstall.  Tried this, and cannot install Itunes version 10.5.1.  Version 10.4.1 installs fine but as I have the new Iphone software on my phone which only works with Itunes version 10.5.1 I cannot sync my iphone or restore the phone from backup.  Therefore at the mo my phone is useless!!!!!
Great support Apple for letting me walk out of their store 10 times worse than when I walked in. SomeGenius eh - surely he must have known this would be the issue!!!
so guys out there - any ideas how to resolve this - as looks like to get my phone working again, I must download itunes 10.5.1.    ahhhh!
PS I am on Windows 7.

  • HT6413 I keep getting a installation pkg error when installing icloud for windows 7 on my pc.

I keep getting an windows installation error when installing icloud for windows 7.  I have tried installing manually without success.

There is a very long way which is removing anything related to Apple including stuff in the registry.
The short way is as follows. It worked for me.
I have seen that in the forum EXCEPT the registry trick which is missing and does the different.
    1. Remove the Apple account from Outlook.  In my case a me.com account.
    2. Disconnect the connection to ICloud in the control panel of version 3.1.
REBOOT and open Outlook to see that all traces of the email account and of ICloud are gone.
    3. Uninstall ICloud 3.1. I used REVO Uninstaller in Safe way mode. It removed some stuff in the registry from what I see; but not sure.
    4. Delete as much stuff as possible in the C \Program Files (x86) \Common Files \ Apple
and C\Program Files\Common Files \Apple.  My computer is 64 bits.
    5. Go to the registry by typing regedit.exe or simply type regedit in the Start Box. Search for ICloud.  I deleted TWO entries related to ICloud. Otherwise, you will still see the ICloud control panel despite the fact that you removed 3.1.
    6. then I was able to install ICloud 4 immediately.  Upon restarting it asked me my email and password and added itseft to Outlook like it was before. Be aware that you address book in Outlook could be deleted, so do an export before.

  • Help I can not install iCloud for Windows 4.0.2

Every time I try to install iCloud for Windows 4.0.2 I receive a error message. Then I try downloading the file install but still no luck. What am I missing? I am using Windows 7 Pro with all other updates installed Core i7 3770K,16 Gig memory,64 bit OS,Service pack 1.

My machine at home actually states that I must use the older version for video to work, but for other installing this version has been a useful workaround for a number of issues, not necessarily limited to the video system, but also compatibility issues with other hardware and software.

  • ICloud for Windows stopped working with recent update

I had been using iCloud for Windows (Windows 7 64 bit) version 4.0.3.56.  I received a notification that there was an update and so I accepted the update (by mistake). It updated to version 4.0.5.20.  As soon as the update ran, and I tried to use the icloud Control Panel to set up the syncing of my mail and contacts I ran into trouble. I received the dreaded "Your setup couldn't be started because of an unexpected error."
I tried to restore my pc to a previous restore point, but, that didn't work.  So, I completely deleted the icloud software, rebooted, and downloaded the new version and reinstalled it.  That didn't work either.  Now, I am completely unable to sync my outlook 2007 calendar with my icloud.
I called Apple support and was told "Tech is working in it."  I would like to know when there will be a fix... I'm sort of hosed trying to keep track of multiple calendars without being about to use my outlook that I also use for business.

i wanted to add that I had been using 4.0.3.56 for 1 1/2 years flawlessly.

  • Icloud for windows xp

I set up itunes to sync my contact, 2 x calendars, pictures, email etc with itunes to my ipad 3 & iphone but it wont sync the claendars. I have Windows XP Home Edition 2002 service pack 3 and Outlook 2007. I then tried to download icloud for Windows XP but when it finished downloading it tells me it will only work with Vista or newer. Do I need icloud to sort out this problem and if so is there a different version of icloud version for windows xp I need to download?

No, you need Vista SP2 or higher.  About all you can do is add your iCloud email account using these settings: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864, then check your other iCloud data by going to icloud.com from your browser.

  • ICloud for Windows/Windows 10 Compatibility Issue

2 days after the Windows 10 upgrade I began to get a constant refresh of the desktop and system tray (every 2-3 seconds). Also saw a pop up stating that iCloud could not access photos due to permissions (of course I am the Admin of the machine). No control over Start Menu button (non-responsive) If flashing/refresh did finally stop, or I manually stopped it (more on that in a moment) the "Edge" application (IE replacement) errored with inability to register. Reboot with WI-FI off and system came up OK. As soon as I turned on WI-FI desktop refresh resumed. sfc attempt did not clear issue. Repair of iCloud (version 4.1.1.53) did not clear issue. Completely uninstalled iCloud for Windows, and problem ceased. Laptop booting OK on Wndows 10. Apple/iCloud site not reporting what the newest version is, so not bothering to try a new install. It would appear there is a compatibility issue with Windows 10; would be interested if any other users have experienced same.

Just picked up your message via a search.  Yes - I have exactly the same problem that you describe.  Have tried changing permissions but when re-starting after close down the same message appears again and PC goes into meltdown.  As you, have now  managed to delete iCloud and all working fine.  This is on my desktop PC.  Oddly I have another machine (laptop) and this problem has not occurred and iCloud not affecting Windows 10 at all!

  • ICloud for Windows 8 doesn't sync my contacts and calendar

    Hi,
iCloud for Windows 8 doen't want to sync my contacts and calendar with the local Windows 8 programs.
    Look at the first line:
    What's wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry for my bad English!

No, it's "Calendar" from Microsoft Corporation, and "Contacts" from Microsoft Corporation.
They are Windows 8 Modern UI apps, which are installed with Windows 8.1.

  • My iCloud for windows is syncing email and notes with my MS Outlook 2013 on windows 8 but NOT contacts and calendar

Dear, I have downloaded and installed iCloud for windows and see that a user has been auto setup in my MS Outlookvia imap. I can now sync email and notes.I cannot sync icloud contacts and calendar with my MS Outlook, can you help me with this?

iCloud hosts the calendars on its server and your various computers read them from there. The protocol for doing this is called CalDAV.
Outlook for Mac has not been equipped with the programming for CalDAV and therefore cannot access iCloud calendars. Outlook for Windows evidently has and can.
This is something only Microsoft can rectify and you could send them feedback suggesting they do this with all convenient speed.
Outlook on a Mac can only access calendars living under 'On My Mac' and these cannot sync with iCloud. iCal can sync with iCloud provided you have 1-.7.2 or higher.

IS YOUR WEB BROWSER UP TO DATE?
Your web browser is up to date.
Why can't I download icloud for windows?

Because you need WIndows 7 or later
iCloud requires iOS 5 or later on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd generation or later), iPad, or iPad mini; a Mac computer with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later; or a PC with Windows 7 or Windows 8 (Outlook 2007 or later or an up-to-date browser is required for accessing email, contacts, and calendars). Some features require iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks. Some features require a Wi-Fi connection. Some features are not available in all countries. Access to some services is limited to 10 devices.
