ICloud + iCal

I had a MobileMe account that was obviously discontinued.  I was able to hold on to my email address without upgrading to Lion when MobileMe officially "closed".  I lost my ability to sync all of my devices seamlessly by not upgrading to their "free" service, so I was forced to upgrade to Lion eventually (thanks, Apple!).  Now I just have a lot of doubled info, and it isn't as "clean" as MobileMe was.  For instance, with iCal, I have two sets of calendars: one set labeled "[email protected]" and a duplicate set labeled "iCloud".  They are the same calendars, except the [email protected] ones don't get pushed to the cloud...i'm assuming they are what was on my computer already before iCloud was added. Why can't I just merge the doubled-up calendars? Why wasn't this feature added to iCal years ago? It wouldn't be that big a deal, but it's confusing when it comes to which calendars get updated and which don't. It's an extra step that defeats the purpose of this product.  I don't want to have to go through each and every event one-by-one and change which calendar they're in.  It would take hours, maybe days!
Anyone else move to iCloud from MM with this issue? I also have doubled-up email accounts on my iPhone, but that's for another topic.
Thanks.

If the set labelled [email protected] is an exact duplicate of the set labelled 'iCloud' you can simply delete it. Otherwise you could move the calendars to iCloud, but if they have even some of the same events you are going to get duplicates. I would have thought that the ones labelled [email protected] should have been moved to iCloud and this has failed to happen.
To move the calendars, please follow the first set of numbered instructions here:

  • How to stop email notifications in icloud/ical?

My coworkers and I share numerous calendars using icloud.  Recently we have began to receive a deluge of email notifcations for every change, tweak, or addition made to the shared calendars.  We have been using shared icloud ical calendars for over 8 months and have NEVER had this issue until it started earlier this week.  Help!  My email inbox has become literally overrun with ical notification emails.
    Thanks!

I started getting this same problem today.  I received hundreds of emails.  In one case, a single event on the calendar was updated, but it sent me notifications for every event on the calendar.
I've never turned on the notifications for calendar changes. I tried to disable it to no avail. I went into iCloud calender and the option for change notification was not checked.  Just to be sure, I checked it, waited, and then unchecked it hoping to reset a setting. It had no effect. Eventually, I had to unsubscribe from the calendar.
Anybody know if Apple rolled something out?

  • How to reverse iCloud/iCal sync fiasco?

I can't reverse iCal to not sync with iCloud. Installed new OS and tried (and hated) iCloud for calendar data. How do I restore old settings and keep the iCloud from messing w my iCal?  I would prefer iCal data only on my MacBook, but can't seem to go back, or to delete the iCloud/ICal sync settings.

I've been having the same issue, but I think I've figured it out.
Select a calendar from the list, go File > Export > Export... (not "iCal Archive...", just "Export..."), and save the file. Do this for all your calendars, then disable iCloud, and open each of your calendars with iCal, always selecting "New Calendar" as the destination.
I know, it's time-consuming, and maybe there's a more elegant way, but it works.

My iCloud iCal shows up a wrong time on the left side (in the Week-Mode) - but when I click on a event, the time i right!
The problem is the actual time - that shows up is 9 hours back (11 am - in fact 8 pm)
    Please help me!

The problem here is iCloud. The timezones are not correct. For example for Buenos Aires, Argentina the timezone have one our shift then the correct time. For other zones the timezone is really bad.

Since installing Lion and moving to icloud, iCal won't let me click 'SHOW NOTIFICATIONS' anymore and has 'greyyed' it out on the menu It's important I see the notifications to see who has accepted or declined the invitations I send out. Can anyone help??

I just updated to Lion and am having the same problem since moving to the cloud. iCal won't let me click on SHOW NOTIFICATIONS. It is greyyed it on the menu. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

  • After Mavericks upgrade, I disabled iCloud / iCal connection. Now I can't make any changes to my calendar

I had multiple bad experiences with my iPhone using iCloud and when I upgraded, realized too late, that my computer was now going to be tied to the Cloud. After I recovered from the stress-induced, post-tramatic syndrome from my iPhone / iCloud experience, and verifying that I would not lose all my calendar entries, I disabled the Calendar connection for iCloud in System Preferences. Checked around iCal and nothing looked amiss.
Then I went to schedule a new event. Right click, the New Event window pops up and before I have the opportunity to type, a window pops up with this message: "There was an error saving calendar data. Calendar encountered a critical error while saving to the database, and recent changes may be lost. More information may be available in the console."
And left in my calendar is an entry called "New Event" that I cannot edit (I've tried using the menu as well as clicking). I tried deleting the event with this window popping up: "You can't change events in the "Home" calendar. Only the calendar administrator and any delegates with permission can make changes to read-only calendars. To make changes to the calendar, contact the calendar administrator."
Me, I'm the calendar administrator and sole owner & user of this computer. Theoretically, "Home" should be me, not, as I suspect, some evil remnant of the Cloud sticking around to haunt me.
Question #1 ??? How do I fix this without connecting to iCloud again
Question #2 What is the console and where do I find the information referenced?
Question #3 How do I make myself the administrator, especially when I thought I already was the administrator?
    Thank you.
I'm on a MacBook Pro OSX Version 10.9.2

Nevermind. After digging around some more in the Support community, I tried restarting my computer. Problem solved. After the mess iCloud made of my iPhone, it didn't occur to me that the fix would be something so simple for my computer.

  • Icloud+ical holidays not showing on ipad 2

Hello, I am using Windows 8.1 enterprise  x64. I make my school schedule using iCloud.com  to make my calendars. I put some events that the college is not open for example, Family Day, Reading week, easter holidays. But when I check to see those "college closed" days on my iPad 2 it is not showing up those college holidays. But, when I make those holidays/events on the Ipad 2 then it automatically shows up on icloud.com. Why is it not showing up on the Ipad even though I have created those events on iCal in icloud.com ? Thank you.

  • ICloud ical Annoying Problem

    Hey guys,
I am new to this community and really bad in English but I hope you guys can bear with my writing and help me out with my problem.
I got one extreamly annoyed by iCal in iCloud. I create a repeat event RENT and set it repeat for every 2 weeks. I also create two event colors, one YELLOW (unpaid rent) and one GREEN (paid) just to make it clear which weeks I already paid and which one I haven't. I can change the colors smoothly but recently, when I try to change the color (YELLOW to GREEN) again, instead of changing only one centain event, all event color changed to GREEN. I tried so many times and couldn't figure out what the problem is. Any of you guys experenced the same problem? Any solutions?
    Thank you very much!

    Hey WInston,
    Thanks for your reply.
The problem is, I actually succeed in doing what I described above in the past but just recently it wouldn't work probably.  And I think I should describe what I did clearly.
    1. Create a event, name it Unpaid Rent, make it yellow
    2. Create another event, name it Paid Rent, make it green
    3. Create a repeat account RENT for every 2 weeks, set it to Unpaid Rent - Yellow
    4. When I paid, I set that single event to Paid Rent - Green
When I change, I also got a notification asking whether I wanna change all event or just one event, when I click on single event in the past, it works, but now, it change all my event even I select "just this event". I think might be some bugs with Apple Server, but have no idea how to deal with it. *sigh*.

  • TS3999 iCloud + iCal + ML sync issues

    Hey guys,
I recently purchased a late-2011 13" MBP and upgraded it to ML.  I did not have any prior issues with my iPhone/Mac/iPad/Black MacBook syncing together with iCloud, which is why I'm perplexed after countless Google searches and resets with no answers.  My iOS devices are still syncing properly.  I can access my updated calendar at iCloud.com.  Everything works except for iCal on Mac with iCloud.  I now have an exclamation point next to iCloud in the calendar along with a phantom Google calendar that is no longer shared.  The error message I get is:
The server responded with an error.
The request (CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation) for account “iCloud” failed.
Does anyone have a solution for this?  I've attempted signing in and out with different accounts to test, allocate and/or delete files from the Library > Calendar folder, Preferences folder and SyncServices, and also verified disk permissions.  I'm re-downloading ML now to try re-installing it.  I'm out of ideas.

    Hey there!
I apologize for my terminology because it probably wasn't accurate or that clear.
While using your existing Apple ID or iCloud account, open Calendar, then go to File > New Calendar > iCloud.  Give it a different name and color than your existing calendar for troubleshooting purposes(you can always delete the old one and rename it and change the colors later).  Once the new calendar is created, try creating a new event under it to make sure that it syncs across all of your devices.  In my scenario, doing this revealed that the new calendar synced correctly while the old one continued to show an error icon.
As far as migrating the calendars, I think there are two options.  Luckily for me I didn't have too many events so I went into each event and edited them at the bottom where it indicates which calendar you want to associate the event with.  The other method that I was going to try, but wasn't sure if a corrupted event/setting would carry over to the new calendar if I did, was to export my old calendar to my desktop, then import it back into my new calendar.  Theoretically, this should move all of those previously entered events under your new calendar without having to click into each event like I did.  Because I've never tried it, I can't speak to whether or not the original error would return.  *However, if your Mac Calendar is empty due to syncing issues, the export method won't be of much help as it only exports what is currently visible in that calendar.  But if your calendar currently contains all the events you'd like to keep, but it just can't sync anymore, then exporting and importing might work.
If you decide to try the export/import method, it's pretty straightforward.  After you create the new calendar, click on the old one and go to File > Export.  Save the file to your desktop, then go to File > Import.  Choose the file you just saved and select the destination as the NEW calendar you just created.  Again, theoretically, it should work.
    Good luck!

  • ICloud iCal sync Issue: Only iPad has correct nfo

Of the four places (desktop, browser, iPhone, iPad) where my iCal is viewable I only have the proper info on the iPad.  I have toggled the iCal On/Off in the preferences pane of both MBP and iPhone to no good outcome. How do I get the iPad's correct info to populate across the other devices.  This annoying developement is recent and inexplicable, I have had no major system / software issues, all other aspects of iCloud are working properly.  I have most recent software on all iOS devices and 10.7.4 on the MBP.  Used to be there was a prompt asking how you wanted MobileMe to merge info... is it just me or was MobileMe more granular (like being able to reset sync history) and conceptually more understandable?  Anyway I'd greatly appreciate any leads, I've come up empty on this forum and the other mac forums.

Fixed it. In case anybody else has this issue or simular. uncheck the calendar option in the icloud prefs, then check it back on. A little to simple.

  • TS3999 iCloud/iCal question?

I started using iCloud on my Mac, iPhone, & iPad. iCal on Mac and iPad use iCloud only & info is outdated & incorrect. iPhone uses "from my mac" & has most updated/correct info. How can I sync all 3 devices to use this correct cal? Thanks in advance!

Is it possible that the "Delete events 30 days after they have passed" advanced preference got turned on in iCal somehow?

  • ICloud, iCal & GoogleCal

Since iCloud resp. 10.7.2, Apple seems to not allow 3rd party software to sync to CalDAV calendars on iCal.
    Huge problem, because
    a) I want to push/sync to/from my iPhone through iCloud, as it's easy, but
    b) I must keep in sync with other users/businesses who simply have no interest in syncing to iCloud.
It's a major hassle and highly unprofessional from Apple to make things that could be so easy so difficult for users and developers the like.
I request iCal CalDAV calendars to be opened for 3rd party syncing. Please like this entry if you think the same.
Plus, Apple, please start moderating these forums, it's always been unprofessional and is even more so now, as I, not being within the 90 days guarantee anymore, seemingly have to pay to report this issue through the official support channels.

CalDAV calendars are not stored in iCal. They reside on a CalDAV server and are displayed in iCal. This is the way all CalDAV calendars work and is nothing new with 10.7.2. You can use a third-party CalDAV client (such as BusyCal or Fantastical) with iCloud calendars.
Apple do moderate these forums - always have done. However, they do not reply here as this is a USER-TO-USER support forum.

I have a very similar issue.
    Problem:
I cannot receive iCal invitations on my iPhone 4GS from other icloud users. I just receive an email with an .ics file, but not a nice red icon on my calendar in iOS.
I also cannot send an invitation to any other icloud user. (eg my wife)

Hardware issue (tested) Its just my account that is not working.
    Possible issue:
AppleID error - My Apple ID seems to be corrupt. (whatever that means)
I believe strongly that this an issue at Apple. something with their mobileMe/iCloud sync.
    Status:

They just let me do some tests that i already conducted before.

  • Subscribing to my iCloud iCal on employer's laptop

I have an iCloud account, I've successfully moved my personal calender from "on my mac" to the cloud and can see it on both my iMac and my iPhone.  Now I would like to subscribe to my personal iCal calender to see it on my employer's MacBookPro(os10.6.8).  This laptop belongs to my employer but is in my possession 24/7/365.  Is it possible to see my personal home calender from the iCloud on this laptop's iCal?  How do I do that?

Easy: You can browse to iCloud.com and login, all iCloud modules can be accessed that way.
Not so easy: would be to upgrade your employers laptop from 10.6.8 to a newer OS X (current version is 10.9.1) and use iCloud as you do on your iMac.
Good but not cheap: Soho Organizer will allow the use of iCloud on 10.6.8

This shouldn't be all that difficult...but it is. I have a calendar I created in iCloud named "Family" and it's on my Mac iCal as well as my iPhone.  I've shared it with my wife so she can go to my iCloud.com and add/edit events, but I want the calendar to show up on her iPhone and her Mac iCal as well.  This is the only calendar we use and we both want it on all our Apple devices.  Any ideas?  Thanks.
