ICloud/iPhoto Journals/browser|device anomaly

Re iCloud and iPhoto Journals:
Created a Journal; both iPhone and iPad  devices were able to view the attendant images. However, on two desktop Mac computers and in browsers Google Chrome and Apple Safari only generic outline layout of the images were viewable, not the images themselves; interestingly, Mozilla Firefox did display the Apple website correctly. As to the PC side, Microsoft Explorer couldn't view this page at all.
Again, on my older model computers, neither Chrome nor Safari could view this 'journal' iCloud-related page properly, while Firefox could. And nothing on the PC side was able to.
I am very interested to hear contrary reports, and perhaps suggestions as to why this is happening.

I think I understand your question!
To save it on another device, simply publish it to iCloud.
At the top of your finished Journal, tap the curved arrow and select "iCloud".  Next, turn on "Publish to iCloud".  The program will upload the images for a few moments, and the journal should be available on your other devices in iPhoto under Journals.

  • ICloud iPhoto journals vs Shared Photo stream

In iPhoto (for iOs Only) you can create photo journals and publish them on iCloud. This is very similar to shared photo streams. However Journals give you quite a few layout options which lack for photo stream. On the other hand shared photo stream are available also on iPhoto and Aperture for OsX. Am I missing something or these two feature should be merged ?

No but there is an edit button which you select and then tap multiple photos.

  • How to view videos in iCloud published iPhoto Journal using web browser?

If I publish an iPhoto Journal containing videos to iCloud and then attempt to view the journal from a web browser e.g. Safari, I see a single image corresponding to each video, but when I select one of them, I get a backwards, play/pause and forwards buttons, but those only control treating the images as a slideshow. I don't see any buttons that correspond to playing the contents of each video. Do I have the incorrect format for the videos (they are .mp4 files created using Handbrake from the original .MOV files which is what my camera creates)?
Here's the URL of the published iPhoto Journal.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

To add, when I do try to Play videos in IPhoto'08, QuicktimePlayer7 opens full screen but will not play content .

  • How to view iPhoto journal in iCloud

Has anyone figured out how to identify the URL to view the "Home Page" in iCloud for journals created by iOS iPhoto?

    I quote:
Select a Journal and tap > iCloud.
Tap to turn on "Publish to iCloud".
To list your Journal on a home page, tap to turn on "Add to Home Page".Note:  If you add a Journal to your home page, visitors to the Journal can also see your home page and any other Journals you’ve added there.
To email a link of your published Journal or home page, tap "Tell a Friend".
To view your published Journal or home page in your device’s web browser, select a Journal and tap > iCloud > View in Safari.
To delete your Journal web page from iCloud, tap and tap to turn off Publish to iCloud. This removes only your Journal web page; your Journal is still on your device.

  • IPhoto journals on iCloud not working

I created a journal on my iPhone and I published it on iCloud, no problem at all.
Then I took my iPad and inside iPhoto I can see the journal cover correctly, however, when I try to open it, it shows only a grey background for a second (with the spinning wheel sign) and just disappears. There's no way to see my shared journal.
I tried the opposite operation (creating the journal on iPad and try to see it on my iPhone) but it's the same.
I have iOS 5.1 on both devices and iTunes 10.6, what should I do?

I have the exact same problem. I picked up my New iPad this week and wanted to sync my journals. But on the iPad I can see the journals cover, but only get the grey background and spinning wheel when opening.
I've tried to rename jounals, delete all journals, create a new journal with one picture, log in/out of iCloud and restarted borh devices (iPhone 4S and the new iPad).
Is iCloud unstable at the moment, or is this common? BTW, my camera roll syncs just fine.

  • I can no longer publish iPhoto Journals to iCloud

I have succesfully published and shared many iPhoto Journals to iCloud over the last few months. This was my main reason for purchasing the App.
It no longer works, I just get a spinning wheel and the perpetual indication that the journal is uploading. I have checked my iCloud storage space and have over 4GB of space so that's not the problem. I keep the iPad and Apps up to date. I have also tried deleting iPhoto from the iPad and starting over.
Any ideas or is this a known bug that requires an Apple update in the future?
    Thanks!

I have since received AppleCare's advice:
Backup then restore iPad as new.
This worked, albeit a rather frustrating and unelegant solution.

If you are getting emails from these forums then you probably accidentally clicked on one of the links on the forums page where all the questions are listed e.g. at the top right of each forum's page there is text box with Actions and Notifications in :
So far you've posted in the iTunes Store forum :

And the Using iPad forum :

If on either of those forums that box says 'stop email notifications' instead of 'receive' then click on it and it should stop that forum sending emails to you.

  • Lost photos in the iPhoto journals of iCloud

I uploaded a journals to icloud a year ago.
I don't know why when I open the share link now, all the photos can't be displayed on the web page, only remain my text.
    Is it iCloud's server problem?
How can I get back? becoz i have delete the journal in iPhoto of my iPad.

  • JavaScript error in IE8 with shared iPhoto Journals

I like iPhoto for iOS a lot: soo easy to build and design photo journals.
BUT: when I publish iPhoto Journals in iCloud and share the link to with others, they tell me they cannot see anything else than the headline and the background pattern... no pictures.
In Safari on iOS devices I have no issues to see the Journal. Same for Windows PCs with Google Chrome browser.
But when I use Internet Explorer 8 browser, the Journal stops loading after the background image is shown.
And the small javascript error indicator tells that IE8 stopped loading/rendering due to JavaScript issues within the JS-code of the page.
As I have no influence on JavaScript of the shared Journals, I would urgently like Apple to test and fix the issue.
Also in iOS Safari with enabled Debug Console the JavaScript errors are specified...
    Thank you
    Dirk

You are talking to other users here and not Apple. If you haven't already done so I would report this problem directly to Apple using the iPhoto for iOS feedback page here:

  • Getting iTunes sharing error when trying to share iPhoto journals?

I am trying to get information from my iPad onto my macair. I have about 12 iPhoto journals on the iPad I am trying to export to the mac as html files.
I successfully did 3, but now I am getting an iTunes sharing error, it says ''there is not enough space left on this device to share all of the selected items''.
I know the iPad is full and I am trying to move all the files to free up space.  My first step was to move the journals then I plan to move all the underlying photos and albums from my recent overseas trip, mostly stored in iPhoto and camera roll.
I have the iPad connected via usb.  I would have thought this was a straight data transfer?  Or is it using iCloud in some way as I know that is at capacity also.
Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

I received this email from Apple and this corrected the problem for me...  I only had to reset the iTunes cache
    1) Open iTunes
    2) At the top menu, click File > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac)
    3) In the Preferences menu, click the Advanced tab
    4) In the Advanced menu, you should see a button that says "Reset Cache". Please click this button.

  • Will iPhoto journals created on iPhone 5 be also accessible on my Mac iPhoto?

I have just returned from a trip where I created iPhoto journals on my iPhone 5.
(I have been storing in iCloud as well).
I expected that I can access the journals from my Mac on my return but I'm not sure how do do this? Can any clever person help me with this?
    Thank you!

iPhoto on your Mac cannot create Journals - you can sync the photos from your iPhone to iPhoto on your mac; you can share your "My Photo Stream" and your "Shared Photo Streams" as albums to your mac.
But if you want to view your Journals as journals like on your iPhone publish your journals to your homepage (iPhoto for iOS (iPad): Share your journal as a webpage) and invite yourself to view them. Then you can browse the journals on your mac by viewing the homepage.

  • Advice required using iPhoto/Journal

I am making a simple project of selected days using iPhoto Journals.  Some days have a series of photos and some days have photos plus a short (1m 50s) video clip made with iMovie).  Other days I have made a short 'movie' slideshow of photos backed with some theme music.
All these work perfectly on iPhoto.  My problem comes when I upload them to iCloud as often not all the movie clip or slideshow uploads.   When I pick up the link for the 'day' or try to view it on Safari, I have the shortened version of the slideshow or movie.   For example I get 5 or 7 seconds of the movie only when there should be 1min 50secs.  This seems to be an intermittant problem and I'm not sure how to overcome it.  Video clips uploaded direct from my camera to iPhoto work fine.
I was wondering whether anyone has any ideas of how to overcome this problem.

Welcome to the APple user dioscussion forums
I'm a new mac user and just finished moving all my pictures over using Finder. I then imported them to the iphoto library. I understand how iphoto works in general but i have a few questions.
    1) is it worth keeping the original picture files around (organized in a very PC way) on my HD after importing to iphoto, or is this totally redundant
Assuming that you have left the default preference setting to copy items to the iPhoto Library checked (also the highly recommended setting) there is no reason to keep the originals once they are imported to the iPhoto library -- BUT it is always important to BACK UP
    2) I have third party software for working with RAW, will i be able to export the RAW photo, make the changes and then re-import, does this make sense?
you can set the third party software as the external editor of iPhoto - edit the photos and save (not save as) to return the resulting edited JPEG to iPhoto to be saved as the modified version
    3) Is the best way to back up my pictures by keeping a copy of the iphoto library on an external hard drive or does TM do a good job
Personal choice - TM does a good job - I personally prefer having a bootable clone of my entire system updated daily on an external drive ready to go - other prefer TM
I will add TM later but to protect from my errors - I see the cline as being better protection from hardware failures

  • Iphoto journals from iPad to mac via itunes

Where do iphoto journals go to when they are uploaded to itunes from the ipad?
I know journals created on the ipad have to stay on the ipad if you want to edit them.  I just want to save them on my mac as a historical record.  I was advised about saving them as web journals
'you can save your Journal as a webpage to your Mac and then continue to maintain it using a web editor:  See:  export your web journal to iTunes'
but when I did this I couldn't find them in itunes.  Where do they go when they are exported?
I am hoping using this option I can still view them later.
If I delete the originals from the ipad and unpublish from icloud, if I create the new 'web journals' will I be able to then save those new web journals to the icloud so that others can see them?
I need to save space on the ipad!
    Thanks
    Veronica

Isn't the error message displayed by iTunes?  Can you check your Mac to see if there are actually duplicate files?
I'd recommend searching for an answer in the Apple Support Communities.
    Community: iTunes for Mac
Please do let us know if the problem has started since the new update to Adobe Reader (version 11.3.0 or 11.3.1).  Thank you.

  • Problems Accessing iPhoto Journals through Facebook iOS apps

Anyone else having troubles accessing published iPhoto Journals through iOS Facebook apps (on both iPad and iPhone)? Clicking a link to a Journal while within the Facebook app redirects you to Apple's iPhoto information page instead of the published journal. If you open up mobile Safari and click on the same link from the Facebook mobile page, it will bring up the Journal just fine. Not sure if this is an Apple/iCloud issue or a Facebook app issue.

I see the same thing. Since the link works in Safari mobile, Safari on Mac OS X and Firefox it would seem to be a Facebook app problem. Since the journals are pretty new, Facebook probably needs to update their app so it handles the URL correctly.

  • Iphoto journal

My iphoto journal created in my ipad takes forever to upload. It is showing uploading status for way too long. What could be the reason ?
    Thanks.

Could be a crummy Internet connection.  Alternatively, the iCloud servers may be under heavy load.  There has been a big heat wave in North Carolina for the last couple days, and it may have affected Apples servers there.
