ICloud is a liar

I needed my screen repaired, but in Japan, they just replace it with a new phone.  So I sat at the iphone store and selected each and every one of my photos, one by one, and then selected the icloud icon.  My phone froze for a minute or so after each batch, and even asked me to edit some videos to fit their limit.  It also warned me that my storage space was getting low, so I am pretty darn sure that it was uploading the pictures and videos.
I was given my shiney new phone, and my icloud storage shows that I have full capacity available, and my pictures are nowhere to be found.  Did I lose everything??
Please help if you can
---Also---
I have reset my phone and used icloud to restore my data, but it only goes back to my new phone, not my old data.
(I didn't have it streaming then, but I REALLY think that it was uploaded to the cloud)

Did you add them to a shared stream?  If so, assuming you are signed into your iCloud account, you will find it inside the Photos app on your phone in ths Shared section.

Make sure you aren't trying to restore your iCloud backup using iTunes, you restore an iCloud backup using wifi.  To restore an iCloud backup, you go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger while you are restoring the backup.

  • Why does iCloud not like Ed Sheeran and why is iTunes a liar?

So like everyone on here I'm sure, you've downloaded iOS 7. I had some difficulty but have it on my phone now and even through my cracked screen it's beautiful. BUT
Before I updated my iPhone, i installed the latest version of iTunes on my Macbook Pro. My first problem is after both devices were updated, my iTunes is saying it cannot connect to my iPhone because it doesn't have the latest version. I've quit and restarted iTunes and have restarted my macbook a couple of times but I keep getting that error message.
    So that's my first problem.
The other problem is friggin iCloud on my iPhone! Most of my purchased music downloaded on there no problem. I didn't mind when it came to most of my music because i haven't listened to most of it. But it won't download Ed Sheeran's album which I listen to quite often lately. Soooo this is most definitely a problem.
I really hope someone can help me on here because I am NOT paying $19 for tech support. Thanks!!!

It is not Mac to Mac.
Why not look up iCloud support, it was never offered as anything outside iOS 5 supported devices.
Maybe if you would stop reading into things what isn't there.

  • Purchase icloud storage for devices in different countries

    Hi,
Just to relieve my system pressure. Was going to post a question. But I need to let out my grunts:
My experience with Apple is kinda written in blood. But for now I've got to live with it.
Well I'm a Globetrotter, so is my family. And Apple is not designed to have international support.
Accidental Damage: Don't buy that 'accidental damage' if you move around the globe. Isn't valid outside your region of purchase.
A good insurance or purchase through American Express is the secret to get a broken iPhone replaced.
AE replaced an broken iPhone and send me a replacement within 48 hours. Thats what I call service.
Purchase international models: Ask for it or double check what model you get. If you don't have an international model they (Apple Store) refuse to service it outside your region. Yes Apple and International Support is a joke. Only in the US the Apple Stores are great and understand we don't only stay, live and work in 1 country.
China service: Never, never service it in China. Mine got serviced (battery exchange) at an authorized service point for free.
Checked at the Apple Store in Shanghai, back home still had problems....Local Apple Store checked the phone....warranty voided.
6 months old iPhone slowly died in the month after. The suckers in China reinstalled something inside upside down and never registered it in the repair log.
Few months later back in China with the phone...No sir we didn't do it, we always register any repair.... Liars.
    Microphone:
Now I've got an EU iPhone in China with the microphone very soft. Including 'Accidental Damage', Apple China refuse to support it. It was bought in Amsterdam. A firmware update fixed the problem partially thanks to US support.
But it's annoying my kid has to use a headset for six months until he's back home and get it serviced here.
And I don't want to buy him a Chinese iPhone, cause then he doesn't get service when he's back home.
Good, finally out of my system. And remember the US Apple employees have always been the positive exemption in the last 10 years or so.
So after the long story here comes my cross border question:
I want to extend the iCloud storage from Europe for my family.
Using different App-Stores was already a crime. Thanks again for the US support to help switching stores.
1 account is switched to the Chinese Appstore
1 account is switched to the US Appstore
    Question:
Is it possible to pay in EU for iCloud accounts valid in China (RMB) and in the US (USD)
As in the end they will end up back in the EU.
What happens if you extend the storage in 1 country and then move to another country with a different currency and extend it again?

To the best of my knowledge, purchased storage stays with Apple id it is purchased to. To the best of my knowledge, it is unlike itunes store, and is not obligated to comply with local laws/regulations for downloads.
I wish sometimes that people like you could create tips on do's and don'ts internationally, since we are all a bit shortsighted when it comes to Non our country situation. Unfortunately that tip here will die in the dark.
BTW, I think your switching store may backfire for you, but I am sure you were informed of that on the phone.
    Question:
Is it possible to pay in EU for iCloud accounts valid in China (RMB) and in the US (USD)
They do not care( they will charge in acceptable units and card will take care of exchange rate), as long as card is accepted by corresponding store ( it is if it is on your file, and if not on file -you will find out as soon as you try to put it on it )
As in the end they will end up back in the EU.
What happens if you extend the storage in 1 country and then move to another country with a different currency and extend it again?
I think I already answered that one.

  • Can a family member use my iCloud storage for photos?

Hope I'm not being obtuse, but the answer to this isn't clear to me from the various "help" menus.
The situation is complicated by my living 50 miles from my elderly father.
I need about 50 GB for my photos, but have to pay for 200, of course.
So, is there a way for my Dad, who is a member of my iCloud/App/Whatever family to move HIS photo library from HIS computer to MY iCloud account without having to purchase more iCloud space for his personal account? (His photo library also - barely - exceeds the limit of the next increment of storage available so that i'll have to buy him 200GB if there isn't a way to share the storage from my iC account.
Hope this question is understandable - I don't know how else to frame it.
    Thank you for all responses.

Duh! Nevermind. I think I definitely WAS being obtuse about how to share photos.

  • How can I create a new iCloud account for a familiy member having a new iDevice and reuse one of my aliases for it

    Hi there,
I moved into iCloud from the very beginning and started with one iCloud account for me and my family, making use of email aliases for family members. Now the number of personal iDevices grows and I want to create a new and separate iCloud Account for my son. The pity is, that I reserved his full name already as alias address on my initial iCloud account. If I now delete this alias, can I create a new account with the former alias as new primary email address?
Or is there at least any transfer procedure supported for aliases between different accounts?
    Thanks for your help, lauterbachj

Couldn't agree more... the folks who are getting penalized for this are the early adopters of .Mac/iCloud dating from the days when the only way to implement a "family" account was to use aliases. Now all my kids' / my wife's name aliases sit in my account, unable to move. I guess the good news is that if I delete them nobody else will get them, but this seems a pretty poor consolation.
Would it really be so difficult to implement a "move this alias to another iCloud account" option that requires the "sender" and "receiver" to exchange some sort of code to implement the transation in order to prevent fraud?

  • How can I Migrate/Split itunes/icloud account for a large family now that they have family sharing

Ok, now that Apple has finally come out with family sharing I need to get things sorted out and I think it is going to be a mess. I have 6 family members (my spouse and 4 children) all sharing/using one itunes account. For parental reasons this made perfect sense. Now with the the advent of family sharing and such we have alot of sorting and migrating to do and I am very unsure how to go about it. Here is what we have.
    Myself - I have a 64GB iPad 3 and a 64GB iPhone 5
    Spouse - 64GB iPhone 5
    Children - x4 16GB iPhone 5C (pink, blue, green, and a yellow)
We have had one itunes account now for several years, we used to have x4 16GB iphone 4's and a 16GB iPod touch 4 so we needed it to be shared at the time. We all have different Game Center ID's and Facetime/iMessages are all setup to the phone numbers (aside from mine which also uses the itunes e-mail). We currently have 1 upgraded icloud account with 200GB of storage on it (love the new tiers). So here are the questions.
    1) How do I go about using and isolating all the devices so they can all use the iCloud storage? Right now if I try and setup backups by device under the what to backup there is no simple "Full Backup" option, they have all the categories separated. I cannot backup my daughters contacts without forcing a merging of them and so on. Same thing with Documents and Data. Would I need to setup a different iCloud account for each device now?
    2) iTunes Music/App purchases. Now that they have a family sharing function I am assuming it would be a good time to separate all the devices (aside from my personal iPad/iPhone). If I understand correctly we need to setup a new itunes account for each and link them with family sharing, does this then allow us to disperse/move items from a singular to the multiple account (at least a one time option to move around) or would it simply be shared off the original account? My daughter for example will be 18 next summer and as such no longer under our care. How do we move her items to her account? She has a lot of purchased Music. Now keep in mind I am talking about an account for someone who was 12 when she had her first device and as such needed to be under her parents.
I just want to state that repurchasing things is NOT an option, and to be frank,  according to Canadian laws pertaining to *licensing* we actually own the product if we paid for it and have the right to transfer the ownership thereof. This issue went through the courts regarding used copies of OEM editions of Microsoft Windows several years ago and they closed the legal *license* vs ownership separation.

Go to appleid.apple.com to manage the ID, sign in and select to the Name, ID and Email Addresses section, then change the birth date on the bottom right.  At the present time you may not be able to enter the correct birth date, but others have had success changing the year to 2000, or the date to 1/1/2001, both of which will have child ID status.

  • What happens on iCloud (ex. contacts) when multiple family members use the same Apple ID?

What happens on iCloud when multiple family members use the same Apple ID?  For example if we all choose to use iCloud for contacts, are they all merged together?  We use the same Apple ID so we can use find my iPhone to keep track of the whole family.

Of course if you are both connected to the same iCloud account you have the same contacts - what did you expect?. The contacts live on the server and are read from there by the devices; so as you've both managed to sync your contacts up to iCloud they are now inextricably mixed. You can only delete your contacts by deleting individual ones, and doing that will delete them from your phone as well.
You can only unravel this by
    1. In the iCloud contacts page at http://icloud.com, select all the contacts, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
    2. Sign out of System Preferences>iCloud
    3. Create a new Apple ID and open a new iCloud account with it for your own use.
    4. Import the vCard back into the iCloud contacts page.
    5. Go to http://icloud.com and sign in with the original ID. This is now his ID. Work through the contacts individually deleting the ones you don't want him to have. When done sign out and advise him to change his password.
    6. Go to the new iCloud account and delete his contacts individually.
Of course if you have also been syncing calendars and using the same email address there are problems with doing this.

  • ICloud with multiple family members sharing one iTunes account?

How will iCloud work for the case where multiple family members share an iTunes account but each has his/her own iPhone/iPad/PC?
Will iCloud replicate content based on email address, unique Apple ID, iTunes account, or??  If iTunes, we could have trouble as three of us share our iTunes account (started when our daughter was young and continued for simplicity).

Keep one Apple ID for iTunes purchases (apps, music, etc.) for all family members on the iTunes Store and use different Apple IDs for each iCloud user. That worked for me.

  • Cannot send email from icloud on web.

I use icloud in Safari to manage my email.  Since yesterday each time I attempt to send an email, I receive the following:
"Cannot send message.  This message cannot be sent at this time."
I am receiving emails, just cannot send.
I've tried both Safari and Firefox.  I've tried restarting my computer.
I tried sending from both my @me and my @icloud addresses.
Lastly, I am able to send from my iphone 5.  So this appears to be isolated to the web version of icloud.
    Thank you!

I have been having the same problems for the last two days now.  It won't let me send, but it will let me save it to my drafts folder.  I even tried opening the e-mail form my iPhone 5 and it won't let me send it there either.  The last two times i ended up copying the contents from my failed e-mail on my phone and pasting that into a new e-mail and that works.  I normally use the icloud web app to reply to e-mails when i'm at work (using win 7) and it is very frustrating.

  • Cannot send email from mail after moving to iCloud

I have just moved to iCloud and now I cannot send email but can still receive email

    Hi Judy,
    Problem solved.
Go into Mail/Acounts and delete you iCloud account.
Now add a new account and type in your details for MobileMe/iCloud.
It should now work. O noticed the default server name is different.
    Hope this helps.
    Yours,

  • Cannot send email from icloud account from mac

cannot send email from icloud account from mac running 10.8.2

The SMTP server you are using with Wi-Fi would be the outgoing server of your internet service provider... this is likely why that's working.
SMTP servers specific to a ISP would not work on the 3G network. You would probably need another SMTP server. One from your cell provider?

  • Icloud

    Hello!
I have installed the HP AIO Remote app on my iPhone and iPad (both iOS8).
I understand the app supports syncing to Apple iCloud, however I cannot figure out how to do this.
I add a file to the Files/Documents folder in the app but it does not appear in my iCloud drive on my other Mac devices.
Also, I add a file to my iCloud Drive in Finder, and it does not appear in the Files/Documents folder in my AIO Remote app.
In settings, I have turned on "Sync Documents" under Share Settings.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi @fspadaccini
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you would like to know how to transfer files using the HP All-in-One Printer Remote app.
Your best resource with the steps to set this up is to use the Help section within the HP AiO App.
Please open up the HP All-in-One Printer Remote app.
Please tap on ‘Help’ in the lower left corner of the app.
Please scroll down to the “Transfer Files Wirelessly” section.
Please tap on ‘Set up a mobile device for file sharing’. It has the steps, as well as what needs to be turned on in your mobile device.
Please let me know how it goes.

  • When i login it says my apple id is valid but its not an icloud id

when I try to login i get a message telling me my apple id is valid but its not an icloud id .I dont have any apple mobile priducts so i have no idea what to do.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You are getting this message because you are trying to create an iCloud account on a PC by signing with your Apple ID.  You can only sign into an existing account on a PC.  You first have to create iCloud account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a Mac running OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  After creating your account on one of these devices you will then be able to sign into the account using this ID on your PC.

  • Start up programs icloud doesn't play by the rules

I intend this to be a formal complaint. I am running windows 7 64-bit on my PC, and have repeatedly removed the iCloud program from the list of assigned startup programs. Every few restarts (so every 1-2 times that I restart or turn on my computer) it appears again, running at startup, using up resources. I value the control I have over which programs open when I start my computer- by managing the programs and limiting the number which automatically run to only those which I find essential (like sound driver software, video display driver software, wireless management software, and antivirus) I am able to dramatically reduce the time it takes for my computer to be ready for use after pushing the on/off button.
iCloud, as a singular exception within this system, does not play by the rules. I suspect that it is constantly checking for updates and upon updating or simply upon auto-running to perform this check, it resets or resestablishes information in the computer's registry, bypassing my GUI established setting and re-assigning itself as a startup program. For this reason I am now uninstalling iCloud from my computer.
I do not know if this was an intentional tactic by Apple to make their brand even more ubiquitous than it already is, or simply an oversight/something ignored as unimportant by the developers. Either way, I find it manipulative or at the very least, a poor business practice. Thanks for reading.

Thank you for this information. I am going to get rid of my  i Phone5c because of this policy of Apple!  Maybe they need sued to stop this policy!

  • Pages downloaded, but I still can't open iCloud pages from iPad. Says that I need a new version of Pages on my Mac

For my Mac Pro, after I downloaded the new Mavericks OS, I downloaded the new pages. However, I still can't open iCloud pages from iPad. Says that I need a new version of Pages on my Mac.
    Please help.

It appears that you are launching the old version, probably using an icon in your Dock. That icon is an alias & is not updated. You will need to go to your Applications folder & find the new Pages 5 icon & double-click it. Once it is launched, you can right-click on the icon & choose Options > keep in Dock from the contextual menu.
