ICloud is a thief!!

I had 2 "Note" programs on my Iphone.  I consolidated #1 into #2, then erased #1.  Knowing that #2 is saved all is well.  THEN, and only then, based on IClouds insistance that I "Update" my IPhone, I did so, and ICloud erased all the changes I made to #2 "Note" program!!!  A LOT OF INFORMATION GONE!!!!  Why would ICloud work in reverse, I assumed ICloud takes what is "On my Phone" and update to the Cloud, ....didn't happen.   Now I have 'deleted' ICloud from my phone and afraid to use the Cloud.  I can't trust it to maintain my data!!

Yeah use a good Passcode and use the Activation Lock

  • HT4995 How to find iphone 4s, that was stolen?

How to find iphone 4s, that was stolen? Is it real to see location of it?

You can see its location if all of the following are true:
    - You enabled Find my iPhone on the phone before it disappeared
    - You set up an iCloud account
    - The thief did not turn the phone off, remove the SIM, restore the phone or wrap it in aluminum foil
    - The phone has cellular data coverage
If you enabled Find my iPhone just log in to iCloud and click the Find my iPhone icon.

  • HT1267 my iphone is stolen how do i track it

hi my iphone is stolen how do i track it i have the imei

The IMEI is no help. If you enabled "Find my iPhone" in settings before it was stolen you may be able to track it using iCloud, assuming the thief did not turn off the phone, remove the SIM, or restore the phone as new.
If you did not enable Find my iPhone you are out of luck.

  • Need to locate stolen iPhone 4

My iPhone 4 was stolen yesterday.the location services were turned off and the battery had nearly died off.
Is there any chance of locating it via iCloud once the thief connects to the net ?
    I have the imei number : 0124*****23409
Would appreciate advice on how I can possibly track it
It was stolen by a Chilean tourist who came to my gallery and distracted me by asking for a glass of water

    You probably cannot.
If you set up find my iphone on the iphone and it is on and the thief has not restored it, then you may be able to track using icloud.
    Otherwise you cannot.
Report it to the police and change your passwords, and alert you carrier.

  • I unfortunately just got my IPhone 4s stolen.I thought I had the find my iPhone enabled but I didn't because I cannot locate the phone when I sign in ICloud. How can I erase all data on the phone so the thief can't access my personal information.

I unfortunately just got my IPhone 4s stolen.I thought I had the find my iPhone enabled but I didn't because I cannot locate the phone when I sign in ICloud.I have a password on the phone but i'm not sure if I turned on the option where the phone resets if you incorrectly put the password more than ten time. I immediately called my phone company (Verizon) and reported the phone stolen. So I know whoever took the phone cannot place calls or use the phone. But can they still access my data on the phone if they manage to unlock the phone?  If so how can I erase all data on the phone so the thief can't access my personal information? is there any other way other than Find my IPhone to wipe off the data on the phone? I really don't want my personal information such as pictures, text messages, notes and social networks profile available to a stranger!!? Help please!!!

        Hello thewrongway,
I'm sorry to hear about your phone!  I understand the need for an active device. You are able to activate an old device and process an insurance claim for your iPhone 4s within 60days from the incident date.  Keep in mind if the old phone is not a smartphone and you currently have unlimited data that feature will fall off.  If you have a tier data plan no changes will be made.  Please let me know if you have any additional questions.  Thank you.

  • IPhone locked to a stranger's icloud account- please help I am not a thief

I had bought iPhone 5 from AT&T the day it was released. After using it for a year and half, I decided to gift it to my dad. I completely wiped the phone to it's factory settings and shipped it to my dad. After my dad received the phone, he took it to a local store to get a new screen protector and a case. After he returned back home, he tried to use the phone but surprisingly the phone was in a lost mode with a message showing it is currently linked to an Apple ID d…[email protected]. Initially he thought the apple id that was showing on the phone belonged to me and asked me to remove it from the device. However, the problem was the apple id didn’t belong to me. I tried to contact the the email address and the phone number that was showing on the screen but they turned out to be bogus. My dad went back to the store but the owner of the store denied doing anything like that. I did some research on Google and came across this discussion where a person is also having the exact same “locked to a stranger’s apple id” issue. At this point, I am not sure if it was the store owner who locked my device or it is a bug in the iCloud system of which Apple is not aware of? I called Apple Support but the rep was kind of rude and just dismissed the case. Then I went to the Apple store with the proof of purchase and the original box but was turned back to Apple Support. The second rep whom I spoke with was professional and sounded helpful but it has been a week and haven't heard back from him yet.
I guess Apple is finding difficulty trying to decide who the true owner of the phone is? Me who have the proof of purchase or the stranger who has provided bogus email address and phone number? Looks like Apple is not willing to help me at all. Is filing a case at small claim court the only option left for me?

I respect your opinion but I don’t agree with it. In the real world, you don't have to involve the police if you simply loose your keys or if it gets stolen. There is nothing a police can do because the car is never stolen and is just sitting at the mall's parking lot all the time. Remember, only the keys were stolen. In my phone's case, the phone was never stolen however I do agree that it was in a vulnerable position when I did the factory reset and removed my icloud account from it. If a device is in such a position then anybody who has the physical access to the device can lock the device with their icloud account. And this is exactly what happend to my phone and this is exactly what I have been trying to explain to Apple Support. I understand they cannot just trust me and unlock the phone for me, but I expect them to tell me what's the next step for me to take. What document or proof do they need from me to show that I am the true owner? I can try and get the police involved even though the device is never stolen, but I first need to know which city police should I get involved- is it the Dallas Police, my home town police or the stranger’s home town police? The email address and the phone number shown on the locked screen are totally bogus and they don’t exist at all. I don’t even know where this stranger lives. Apple Support is simply ignoring me presuming that I am the thief and not trying to resolve the issue at all.

  • Is it possible for iphone 4s-io7- to show up offline in icloud list of devices even if thief erased iphone(found pssrd) or turned off fmi?

Very curious since its still showing offline in icloud list of devices. Would remote wipe work when the iphone is connected to intunes for restore or dfu? Answers appreciated.

No, it means you have no information about your phone.
If you enabled Find my iPhone that also enabled Activation Lock. Even if the thief guessed your passcode they still could not disable Find my iPhone without knowing your Apple ID and password. The thief also only gets a limited number of tries to guess your passcode. If you had enabled "erase after 10 failed attempts" then the limit is 10. If you had not then after 10 or so the thief would have to wait before trying more, an the wait would get progressively longer with each failed attempt. So unless you have a really poor choice of passcodes (1111, 1234, etc) your content is reasonably safe.

  • I did not know about iCloud until after my iPad2 was stolen but I have the serial number so is there any way Apple/iCoud can help trace it when the thief logs into Apple's website /store etc? Thanks

I did not know about iCloud until after my iPad2 was stolen but I know the serial number so is there any hope the thief can be tracked when he or she logs in to the Apple store etc? thanks

iOS devices cannnot be tracked or located with just the serial number. Unless you shared your Apple ID and password with anyone, then your account cannot be accessed at the iTunes Store.

  • TS4006 My Apple iPod Touch 4th Generation was stolen if the thief signed out of my iCloud account on the device will it go away on the web map on my computer and keep me from locking it remotely?

My Apple iPod Touch 4th Generation was stolen if the thief signed out of my iCloud account on the device will it go away on the web map on my computer and keep me from locking it remotely? I was asking my grandmother who works in apple tech support at at&t but she didnt know. so im hoping somebody will come by and say yes to my question because my iPod touch is still appearing in my iCloud.com account.

Yes. If it was signed out from iCloud, it will disappear from the Devices list in Find my iPhone.

  • What if a thief unchecks the Find My Mac box in iCloud? Doesn't that make it useless?

Maybe I'm totally missing this, but if a thief grabs my macbook and quickly unchecks the Find My Mac box in the iCloud settings, doesn't that render it useless? I wasn't able to find a way to put a security setting on that section of preferences.

Requiring a passcode to turn off wouldn't be much use. Every electronic device needs a hardware reset function in case the software crashes badly.
So, even if you could prevent the power off in software (by requiring a passcode), you'd only need to perform a hardware reset to bypass it.

  • My macbook pro has been stolen and i had icloud and find my mac installed. If the thief was to wipe my harddrive and use internet recovery, will my find my mac still work?

Hey guys, so I recently had my macbook pro stolen. I had my find my mac turned on and i was wondering if i could still track my laptop if the thief wiped my hard drive and the recovery partition, but if they reinstalled the mountain lion osx from the internet recovery would that erase the find my mac feature? Thank you guys for all the help. Just doing what i can to try and retrieve my laptop. Thanks

Yes, if the wiped the drive Find My Mac would no longer work. The can't reinstall Mountain Lion without your Apple ID or an Apple ID of their own.

  • I know the iCloud account from my iPad thief. How I can report him?

Someone stole my house and among multiple objects, have taken my iPad. I did not blocked it in order to locate and, indeed, have been connected.
They have also tried to change the Apple ID email and, as they have not, they have set the email as an alternative of their own iCloud account !! So Apple can help unmask the thief?

Here's what Apple Support has about this subject. Apple has set up the procedures for you to take care of things like this yourself, but Apple will not actively get involved in tracking down your stolen device.
