ICloud is being a nightmare

So this is an issue! Last week my fiancé was logged out of iCloud on her iPhone. She thought nothing of it and went to put her password back in. After a few failed attempts she got suspicious since her password has been the same for the pat 8 years (AKA she was hacked). She went to do the recovery email password reset option and thought it would be sent to her gmail address. After noticing she wasn't getting any password reset emails she went to do the 2 question verification. However, she created this account 8 years ago!!!! The questions were, "Who is your childhood best friend?" (in the 8t grade you have 40 best friends.... good luck), "Who was your least favorite teacher?" (all of them? Also, did I write Mrs, Ms, or Miss?), "Who was your first teacher?" (I don't know?! God?!). What makes it worse is that you have to get 2 out of the 3 questions right! After trying this 4 times and getting locked out for EIGHT HOURS all 4 times we reverted to Apple Support who we thought would be able to help. Well Apple surely doesn't care because they ended up hanging up 3 times and were basically told "tough luck". We spoke to 9 different people and spent a total of 8 hours on the phone with support to get a password reset so we can get all of our emails back. We were told "the security is in the customers hand and there is nothing we can do." However, I have receipts from iTunes with a Name, Email address, Home Address, Phone Number, and last 4 digits of the credit card, but that wasn't prove enough... Really?!?!
I guess my Question is, is there any way around this? Is there some God like figure at Apple that we should contact to release this account back to the proper owner?! This is so frustrating that as lifetime Apple owners we have decided to move to Android if this isn't fixed because at least someone will be more sympathetic and will help us through a conundrum like this.

Here is the fix:
1. Shut down Mail.  Next, deselect "iCloud Mail" in the iCloud preferences pane in System Preferences FIRST.  If not, it will automatically pre-populate the wrong p9X.mail.me.com server names again overwriting all your work.
2. Now restart Mail and go to preferences.  If "iCloud" mail is still showing, select it and click on the "-" at the bottom to remove it.
3. Now follow the instructions here: http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html (disregard that this is for Snow Leopard, it DOES work on Lion) paying attention to the use of the "option" key when needed to avoid Mail automatically "creating" the account and closing out the preferences window.
4. Ensure the correct server names of "imap.mail.me.com and smtp.mail.me.com" are still there and close Mail preferences and now select "get mail".  It may prompt one last time for your iCloud password, enter it and you are done.
Good Luck.

  • Apparently, my company email that I have on my ipad prevents me from manually backing up to icloud. Does this mean that icloud is being blocked entirely from my ipad?

If my company email on my ipad blocks me from manually backing up to icloud, does this mean that icloud is being blocked from my ipad completely?

I'm not sure if they can completely block iCloud if you have your own Apple ID. I assume that they just don't want their data backed up to Apple's cloud.
But the more important point in this whole discussion is would the company be honked off at you for doing something on the iPad that they do not approve of.

  • Is there a way I can tell if my iCloud is being used on more than one iphone?

i have photos on my phone that I don't want anyone to see is there a way I can tell if my iCloud is being used on another iPhone, I have a feeling my brothers phone is still logged in but I cannot check as I do not live with him,

Changing your password would work just in case.

  • Please help! i have broken my iphone, screens is totally smashed and black, photos are not on my icloud on pc for some reason, how do i get them onto my icloud without being able to use the phone? despratly need to acsess these photos on my pc.

please help, i have smashed my iphone 4 and the screen is black, but phone is still turned on and ringing. i had set it up icloud on my phone and pc before hand but not sure if i did it correctly as no photos are showing up on my pc, is there anyway i can get the photos from my phone to icloud via the pc, not being able to use the phone atall? or would i need to go on setting on the phone? please help i really need the photos of my children

Don't try to use iCloud for this.  Instead, import them to your computer using your usb cable as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  That will import photos and videos from your camera roll.  You might also want to back it up before repairing or replacing it.  You can do this by connecting it to your computer, opening iTunes, then going to File>Devices>Back Up; and to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  This backup can later be restored to your repaired or replaced phone to recover your data.

  • Can a device still backup to iCloud after being disabled?

Ok so my phone is disabled.
I'm about to erase the phone through icloud.com, and it showing as online.
Now I know it's not connected to cellular data because I don't have data for the time being. So it must be connected to wifi still.
So I'm wondering if anyone has tried to see if a device will still back up to iCloud in this state.
The device hasn't backed up in months because I did not have storage.  I can purchase icloud storage from my other device.
It's worth a shot but as long as the device is "locked", connected to wifi and plugged into power, and I add storage, it would seem I can still get it to back up before erasing it right?
Has anyone ever tried this before or given it any thought?

  • I can't download any more on my ipad due to my icloud storage being full.  The ipad came with the icloud free storage but now it seems that i have to pay for more storage on icloud.  Do i have to?  What if i dont want icloud?

The ipad is my son's so he doesn't really need the icloud as he only uses his ipad to play apps.  The ipad seems to have a lot of unused capacity but it won't let him download any more apps without paying for additional icloud storage.  Do we have to use icloud or can we just use the ipad without icloud and keep downloading apps until the ipad capacity is full?

Should be able to. I dont' use iCloud and I have no issue downloading apps.
you may need to be patient though, from what some have said, it may be that the app store is a bit swamped and busy with all the new iPad owners.

  • Where are my videos in ICloud after being backed up in ICloud?

I have done a backup on my Iphone 4s with all my apps, music, pics and videos.  Where in Icloud can I find my pics and videos?  In Itunes the apps and music are there but I just can't find my pics and videos.  Not sure if I have to connect Iphone to the computer with wire and then upload?
    Thanks for any help.

You cannot find your pics and videos in iCloud. You have backed up your iPhone to iCloud, and in iCloud is a big backup file. You can find your backup and you can restore it to your iPhone, but you cannot find individual files withing the backup.
You can restore your iPhone from the backup.
"Here’s a quick list of what exactly is stored in an iPhone Backup:
Various settings from the Settings app data, including Mail and Calendar account settings (but not the actual Mail messages and Calendar events).
    Paired Bluetooth devices.
Safari bookmarks and Safari AutoFill data.
SMS and MMS messages, Notes items, voice memos, and photos and video from the Camera Roll. The one exception is that videos greater than 2 GB are not backed up.
Preferences and data for third-party apps (such as game high scores), but not the apps themselves.
Passwords for Mail and Wi-Fi accounts (from the iPhone’s Keychain file). These passwords will restore only to the same iPhone. If you upgrade to a new device, for example, you must re-enter these passwords on the new device. You may also have to reset your Voicemail password.
A backup does not store photos synced via iTunes nor any iPod music or video."

  • I want to change my iCloud from being primary

I want to change my primary email to my alternative email and make my Gmail the primary

Unfortunately, you can't merge two Apple IDs into one.
Read this link, it explains things in detail (for a different situation, but the details may help you) ...

  • Why is my 55GB iCloud storage being reduced to 5GB?

I have also recieved an email saying that on 30/09/2012 my storage will be reduced to 5GB. I want to continue to pay for the maximum storage but the email does not explain why this will be reduced, and does not give an option to renew for another year.

You got the extra storage because you were a MobileMe user who had time left on the account when MobileMe was shut down.  That storage terminates on Sept. 30 and you'll be back down to 5GB.  I'm not sure about the mac, but if you have an iOS device, go to Settings>icloud>Storage & Backup>Change Storage Plan.  There you can buy more space.  (Also check out the Downgrade Options page, that provides a default of what to do when the current plan ends next week.)  Otherwise, search about on the mac or go to icloud.com with a browser to see if you can find the place to change plans.  (My guess - after logging in, click you name in upper right of web page and look at the menu options.)

  • ICloud email being rejected by recipient servers

HELP!!!  I recently began using a new iCloud email address and have run across a problem when sending emails to some but not all recipients.  So far emails sent to a comcast and a craigslist address get bounced by the receiving server.  This problem is occuring on all three of my devices: macbook pro (Mavericks), iPhone (iOS7), iPad (iOS7) and when using the iCloud web site.
The two errors I have received are:
    Recipient:  Comcast
Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:
    Recipient address: [email protected]
Reason: Rejection greeting returned by server.
Diagnostic code: smtp;554 imta04.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net comcast 17.164.101.34 Comcast requires that all mail servers must have a PTR record with a valid Reverse DNS entry. Currently your mail server does not fill that requirement. For more information, refer to: ht

    Remote system: dns;mxi3p.craigslist.org (TCP|17.164.101.34|57640|208.82.236.82|25)
I have spent hours trying to solve this one and have come up empty.  There is one work around that only works on the macbook that involves using a different outgoing smtp server (I used gmail).  However this isn't an option on the iOS devices or on the web.
Any help solving this one would be most appreciated.

Try contacting iCloud support.  This sounds like a mail server configuration issue.

  • Why are only my iCloud songs being shown on iTunes

I went onto my iTunes today to find out that in my library I only had 25 songs. All which said they needed to be downloaded from iCloud (I believe, as I couldn't play them without pressing the download button). I had over 750 songs on my iTunes.
Why has this happened? I have lost so much music. Am I somehow in the wrong library or something?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

AVG is the most likely culprit. They have promised a patch, but you'll still need to repair your library yourself.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Whatever AV you use I would recommend excluding the iTunes folder from any real time AV scanning process, however it would seem that AVG isn't currently obeying such exceptions.

  • Is iCloud Offline/being updated?

    Good Afternoon Everyone,
I've been reading that many folks are having issues logging into iCloud right now, but I have not found a thread that posts a solution.
For me personally, I have not been able to get my email from the cloud for two days now.  My home Mac Running Snow Leopard, My iPhone and iPad, and my MBP running Lion are all affected.  It appears to be on the server end.  It is requesting my password from time to time to reestablish a connection but that is not working either.  If the server destination has changed it's supposed to update automatically and it is not happening.  Does anyone know what, if anything, Apple is doing to fix this situation?
    Thanks,
    Brian

I have had an Apple since 1979 and even owned a computer school using all Apples for 20 years. Apple was always there for us. Never had a problem with Apple products. I'd blame the hackers and competetion and the sick people who are out to destroy  instead of building things.

  • Is there a way to turn on icloud without being near the device

My ipod was recently stolen. I don't have icloud turned on so I have no way to trace it. Is there a way I can trace it without turning it on or is there a way to turn icloud on from a computer?

You would have needed to enable 'Find My iPod' on your iPod Touch before it was lost in order to be able to locate it. Failing that, you cannot do so. (It would also have to be on, not wiped, and able to connect to a network - any competent thief will have wiped it.)

BEST BUY NOT STANDING BY THEIR EXCHANGE/RETURN POLICY..
WHen I first attempted to exchange, I was well under BEST BUY return policy of 30 days...but wouldn't you know they finally responded to me stating they would not be able to offer me an exchange because NOW the return term time had NOW expired....
SO they waited until my return period had expired to reply and tell me they couldn't and wouldn't exchange it
because my return/exchange period had expired...
Well then that's clearly illegal isn't it? Contact the TN Attorney General's office.
