ICloud, iWeb and MobileMe

I'm now on MobileMe. When I move to iCloud, will I instantly lose the ability to access iWeb and my iWebsites? I have a lot of them!

Firstly, your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? iCloud requires Lion 10.7.2. If you have that, please amend your signature to prevent confusion. If you don't have Lion you may want to consider upgrading if your Mac meets the specifications.
If you migrate to iCloud your iDisk, website hosting and Gallery will be unaffected and can be accessed exactly as before (the migration process may sign you out in System Preferences>MobileMe and you will need to sign back in).
However MobileMe will be terminated and the contents of your iDisk, including your websites, erased at the end of June. iWeb will work with other hosting services - please see this page:
http://rfwilmut.net.migrate2
If you cannot upgrade to Lion you can still migrate from MobileMe, but only your email will work and you will have to set that up manually: calendar, contacts and bookmarks syncing will not work on Snow Leopard. Please see this page:

  • IWeb and MobileMe Gallery

I am trying to upload pictures from the MobileMe Gallery.  I have albums published but when I move the MobileMe widget to the web page I am creating it reads "No albums or movies". Please help.

I've jumpstarted the MMe widget with the following 2 fixes before:
    Try this:
    quit iWeb
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
    launch iWeb and try again.
Ahother method that worked one time was:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
HOWEVER, a way to embed your MMe gallery and not worry about fixes is to go online and get the URL of your MMe gallery and plug it into the following code in an HTML snippet:
    <script src="http://gallery.mac.com/g/flash/photowidget_iefix.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    writeObj("http://gallery.me.com/MobileMeName/XXXXXX", 226, 199);
    </script>
Thanks to Wyodor for the code.

  • IWeb and MobileMe communication error! How to fix?

During work with iWeb, after I published site on MobileMe, I lost connections with my MM Gallery - widget window says "no movies/albums". Anybody can help?

That happens frequently.  One method I have used to bring it back is to close iWeb and
1 - delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
3 - go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
4 - login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
5 - login with your correct username and password.
6 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Video on iWeb and MobileMe

I currently have a fishing website under a domain name, hosted by a service. Like most, the hosting service has size and bandwidth limitations based on how much one pays and they also have an adversion to streaming video.
A MobileMe account with my video hosted there would take care of the problem.
Normally if I create a link to a file, the file gets downloaded. I would prefer that the video be played within a video player window on the currently loaded page. I do not want to move the entire site to MobileMe just to solve this problem.
The question: Can I get iWeb to play video directly when the video file is not on the same server or not even in the same subnet?

    Yes — see Chapter 4 & 5 here.

  • Migrating to iWeb and MobileMe

I'm a complete newbie to Mac, but I already have a website and domain. However, the software provider that I used to create the site has gone bust. Is it possible to migrate my domain from my current host to MobileMe? If so, how do I do it?
    Thanks very much,
    Paul

Paul ~ Welcome to the discussions. As MobileMe doesn't host domain names, the answer is no. But you could publish your current site "as is" to MobileMe:
MobileMe: How to publish a custom website
...and then point your Domain name to it:
_Setting up MobileMe to use a personal domain name_
If you prefer not to publish your current site to MobileMe as a "custom website", bear in mind that iWeb cannot import sites, so you would have to build your current site in iWeb anew — by dragging in text and media, etc.

  • IWeb and MobileMe

Finally decided to call Apple last night, I mean thats what AppleCare is for right? Anyways after being passed up the line, I was finally told that the problems would be fixed sometime today. The quote was that the techs would need another 24-36 hours to finish the migration from .mac to mobileme. We'll see, I'm not holding my breath....

I am so furious with apple right now, I would leap at the opportunity to go back to my good old toshiba pc. And you know what? I wouldn't be near as upset if the mac folks were talking. I mean, just say something on your home page apple, say something for gods sake. Saying nothing is just making everyone so angry at you. Even the apple store employees don't have a clue. If you would just let us know you are working on it and tell us what we are seeing is your problem and not ours we would wait more patiently i think. But you have thumbed your nose at your bread and butter and all I can say is I hope you go bankrupt, the sooner the better. Yea, i would miss my mac book, but I would feel so good that you got what you deserved.
People, drop iweb at the very least, and vote with your pocketbooks. Buy nothing at an apple store that you can find elsewhere in a store or on line. and for those who are willing, follow me back to a PC and Blogger. There is nothing more rude than being ignored and you, my friends, are being ignored.
And I wouldn't feel this way if i could go to the apple homepage and find SOMETHING from mac about the problems we are all dealing with and wondering about and for some, losing business money by the second.
Kissing you good bye, you deserve to go under for not talking apple

  • ICloud iCal and MobileMe.

    hi
i had an apple id much before i got myslef a mobileme account.
well mobileme synched up everything and all was dandy.
    then came icloud.
so i wanted to keep my apple id and thus i did exactly that - i created a new me.com email address as i could not use my mobileme account to link to the apple id.
now the issue i got it. with ical  the calender still is synching with old mobileme account. and on my iphone and ipad i have removed refrences to mobileme account as i have used a mail forward to the new me.com account.
i just realised that the calender entries are not showng up pn my iphone or ipad. tried tinkering with ical on the mac.
backedup the data. removed the old mobileme account and restored the data.
but the data comes back with the same refrence point of mobileme still being there.
    its driving me nuts.
any advise on how i can simply move my calender entries from mobileme account to icloud account.
    it would be fantastic.
    many thanks
    junz
Edit : another user has exactly the same issue, i suppose the issue faced by us is better explained here

  • Domain Name Registry in iWeb and MobileMe

I want to publish a website using MobileMe, and want to use a domain that I have determined is unused. Will MobileMe automatically register that domain when I initially publish it, or do I need to register it first with a third-party domain registry?

Have a look at this page for details.....

  • Anyone using 1and1? Disappointed in iWeb and MobileMe

I designed a website for my professional services in iWeb but then learned about its limitations here in the Apple discussions. I'm thinking of using 1and1 and their templates. I want to produce brochure ware about my services with an interactive contact us page (iWeb doesn't have and I'd need to add html code/tweak -- seems like form generation ought to be standard) and to have a blog. Fairly simple -- not selling anything online -- although eventually it'll be nice to have a forum or to have blog commenting capability. I'm also hoping that the web host has some decently designed templates.
Has anyone used 1and1 as a webhost? Are you using a Mac friendly web host? What your experiences? I've seen Mac friendly web hosting sites. Any recommendations and words of wisdom are welcomed about what to look for and look-out for when using such services.

What's the point of coming to an iWeb discussion group and asking for information on template based hosting? The whole reason for using iWeb is to allow you the freedom to design as you wish, without having to deal with bland design and restrictive layout. Form generation is standard. iWeb doesn't do it.
I work with several sites that are using a perl script in a cgi-bin directory to handle custom contact forms. I do the actual form in Dreamweaver (there are many other programs that can do this), and paste the code for the form into an HTML widget on a "Contact" page.
After setting up the site for a Mac user with iWeb 09, I provide them with the iWeb site file and tell them to have some fun. Just leave the code alone for the contact form itself. You can change everything else on the site including the Contact Page, as long as you don't mess with the contact form code.
I use Cyberduck to upload the perl script to the cgi-bin directory on a standard linux based hosting site like seanic.net and the user gets to use iWeb to make all of the future updates and new pages when they want.
Dealing with tech support on a hosting site, that doesn't really know how iWeb (or many other site building programs work), will drive you nuts. You may do better to find someone to assist you with your initial domain setup and original site pages so that you can have fun with the design instead of dealing with all of the other issues.

  • Cannot publish iWeb to MobileMe after renewal of subscription

Since the renewal date of my MobileMe subscription on December 26, 2010, I have not been able to publish updates to my iWeb site [www.averroespress.com] to MobileMe. A popup message appears asking me to sign in to MobileMe. When I do, the MobileMe Preferences box appears showing me logged in to MobileMe while the iWeb continues as unpublishable. Is this tied to my subscription renewal or is iWeb and MobileMe acting up?
BTW, the subscription payment has not been charged to my Visa. Who should I contact?

I'm having the same exact problem. My renewal date was 12/27/10, my account is active. Spent 3 hours on tech support chat with no solution. Not only can I not publish to Mobileme, I need to know how to change a faulty domain address that shows up on my mobileme account under idisc/sites/iweb/iweb pages, then this message when you click on the page:
http://www.sbcyouthministries.org/Site/Welcome.html This url is not correct. The correct address is www.oneeighysbc.com, as shows in my account settings under personal domain. How do I change this?
I can not publish my iweb site to my mobileme account, only a folder on my mac then to the web. Will this affect syncing from icalendar on my mac to the google calendar on my iwebsite? Does it affect one click web publishing on iweb?

  • IWeb and Roman Cart ??

Anyone out there used Roman Cart? Does it work with iWeb, any problems, any benefits. Would welcome any feedback.

Well, iWeb and MobileMe are not working for me yet. I tried to publish a few days ago now and I got the box come up that said please log into your .Mac account when I already was. Have just tried again this morning and what I get now is the servers are busy, please try again later.
I had exactly this problem, but then it went away by itself. Just lucky, but my luck is holding today too.
So, at the moment, I cannot publish at all to MobileMe. It is just very lucky for me that I do not have to rely on being able to publish my site to MobileMe for my business - when I knew that all this was a problem, I decided to publish to a folder and upload directly to my web space having fixed Google Maps and it works fine. Glad I did really in the current climate!!
That's a clever workaround if you don't need/want comments support for a blog. The publishing process from iWeb is slightly different than simply writing to your iDisk, and by uploading directly you take a different path.
BTW regarding the suitability of MobileMe as a business solution, any MobileMe member might want to read how [Apple describes the service|http://www.apple.com/legal/mobileme/en/terms.html#description]. Particularly the part around *not intended to be used for commercial business purposes*.

The other thing they don't tell you is that Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac, and I am considering uninstalling it for that reason - do I get my money back?!

You stated; "Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac"
    That is not true.
Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta so it is not capable of executing PowerPC code. If you have MS Office 2004 that is coded in PowerPC code and will not run in Mountain Lion. What you need to do is upgrade to an Intel version of Office.

  • IWeb and iCloud vs MobileMe

IWeb says to use MobileMe to publish.  I use iCloud and MobileMe is inactive.  What do I do?

iCloud and MobileMe are 2 different accounts in the System preferences on your computer.
Check if you are signed in at MMe also.
Unless you signed up for iCloud only and not MMe.
If MMe is not available for new users, you cannot use it and have to find another host.
Finding a webhost is discussed extensively in this forum, so you may want to search for it.

  • Will I still me able to keep my blogs and websites with iWeb after Mobileme is discontinued?

My wife and I use iWeb via Mobileme for our websites and blogs. Mobileme is being discontinued for iCloud.  Can anyone reassure me that I can keep my iWeb websites?  I feel iWeb was a good thing that almost got better but has been neglected in the last version of iLife so for the first time didn't upgrade.  I am anxious that Apple will just let it slip away.  Perhaps not?

I don't have any insider information, but I would have to guess that Apple would keep a web hosting option to its chosen successor to MobileMe.  iCould is clearly a Hosted Exchange Server alternative and web hosting would seem to be needed for many small businesses who are using this service as an alternative to web hosting. It also helps push their iLife product line.  If you kill webhosting, iWeb becomes a weaker product.  That said, I would keep a backup.
I think that as iCloud gets nearer to release date, we will see more options get released.  I'm sure that Apple will be willing to sell more storage space, that web hosting will be available, etc.  My gut is that probably won't charge for the hosting, but will draw down from your data pool.  It just seems like a cleaner way and will actually get more people to take the jump.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a Sharepoint type service emerge as well.  Only time will tell, but Apple's philosophy is to make all their pieces fit together and work better than than anyone else's.  A web hosting component seems to make sense.

  • I had a MobileMe account before... after upgrading to iOS 5, should I keep my account info under iCloud (settings) AND under mail, contacts and calendars (in Settings as well) or only keep the info under the new iCloud setting section?

That's not the correct port. It should be 993 for incoming.
If you signed into iCloud from the System Preferences, it should automatically create the iCloud account for you in Mail. Sounds like it is an account you already had set up for MMe in Mail.
Open Mail preferences, open the Accounts tab, disable that account in the advanced pane.
Open Sys Prefs, open the iCloud tab, and sign out of iCloud. Then sign back in and see if a new iCloud account is automatically created.
