ICloud Keychain Sharing

Can you share your icloud keychain passwords with other Apple accounts? This would be helpful for sharing passwords with my wife's phone and laptop.

I'm also seeing this problem on my macbook pro running OSX Mavericks.  It is very annoying.  Does anyone have a solution?

  • 2 iPhones each with there own Apple ID, can we share the same iCloud Keychain, how?

Do we need to each use the same Apple ID in order to share the keychain?

Not quite.  The account you have in Settings>iCloud (and also in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars) is your primary account.  You will need to share this primary account to sync the same keychain to both devices as iCloud keychain does not sync with secondary accounts.  To implement this one of you would do the following:
Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll
Go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Delete from My iPhone and provide the password when prompted.  The account and data would only be removed from the phone, not from iCloud.
Sign back in with the other person's iCloud ID to share this as their primary account.
Turn off any data they do not wish to have on their phone from this shared account, such as the other person's contacts.
Add their original account back as a secondary account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and signing in with their orignal iCloud ID.
Turn on Contacts syncing in the secondary account to sync back their contacts to their phone.  Secondary accounts, while more limited than primary accounts, can also sync Mail, Reminders, Calendars and Notes so all of this data could be synced back from the original account and turned off in the primary account if you want to keep these separate too.
Only the primary account will support iCloud bookmarks, photo stream, documents & data, iCloud backup and Find My iPhone and iCloud Keychain so you will be sharing all these services.  Your backups, for example, would both have to share the same 5GB of storage in the shared primary account.
I'm not sure if you feel that all these trade-offs are worth it to share the same keychain but at the present time that's what would be required to do so.

    My main concerns are:
-If I use iTunes on my main computer, will it then be available to Apple TV?
-If I use Apple TV to download will it be available to my Main computer?
-Can the Apple TV use a media server for storage over LAN (using NTFS Samab or otherwise)?
Basically iTunes feeds AppleTv with media either syncing (copying to it) or streaming live.
Media must be compatible with AppleTV.
AppleTV requires a proper iTunes instance running - it cannot access a NAS directly.
If you store media in a folder on a NAS and it's part of the computer iTunes library (just stored on the NAS vs internal/external drive), then when running iTunes makes this content available to AppleTV.
    Data will travel:
NAS > network > iTunes > network to AppleTV
As the path is potentially slower than internal/external attached drive > iTunes > network > AppleTV, it may or may not work robustly for streaming.
If AppleTv is set to sync (it can also stream in this mode), when you purchase direct on AppleTV, the media should sync back to where the itunes library is stored (via iTunes) to keep things in sync and to allow you to backup the media.
You cannot drag/drop media to/from AppleTv across the network, nor can it directly access storage itself - iTunes is an essential cog in the wheel.
The majority of commercial 'in-built iTunes media servers' will not work directly with AppleTV as it has to be 'paired' with iTunes by entering a numerical code in iTunes and does not simply see 'shared libraries'.

  • I am trying to set up iCloud keychain, but it keeps sending the verification code to my land line, even tho I have gone into my apple account and changed to my mobile phone

I am trying to set up Icloud keychain, but it keeps sending the verification code to my land line (which I guess I entered back when I first got my MacBook).  I have gone into my apple account and changed the # to my mobile phone, but it continued to send it to the land line.  Probably is something simple, but I am not a techy!!

    Hi,
As regardss to the iChat and iChat Sharing categorisation you have used.
In iChat 6 (lion) and Messages (Mountain Lion) the apps login to AIM and to Me.com
The Login to Me.com allows AIM to verify the password to the iCloud issued names (@me.com and @iCloud.com)
This "Dual" login also prevents the newer iCloud issued name from using this site
(it has extra Privacy settings that iChat can't access for your AIM and Aim valid Accounts)
Ignoring the @mac.com and MobileMe entries in the Add Account Screen in iChat and using the AIM one does not get around this issue.
AIM and @mac.com names still work in older versions of iChat.
The short answer is that iCloud issued Apple IDs do not work in iChat 5 or Earlier.

  • Share iCloud KeyChain & Bookmarks?

Hey gang... I have a question as it relates to iCloud and more specifically, icloud Keychain.
Up until now, the way my wife and I have things setup is we have one family icloud account which we use for all our iTunes and Apple Store purchases and then we each have our own separate icloud account for our personal emails, calendars etc.
Would it be a good idea to use the Family iCloud account as both of our main accounts on iOS devices so we can share/sync bookmarks and iCloud Keychain and then our separate personal icloud account would be added as a second account.
The downside to this approach is since the iOS 7 upgrade, Apple only allows the primary icloud account on the iOS device to have documents/data, bookmarks and keychain.  Secondary accounts do not have these options.  This will result in us certainly going over the free GB storage provided by iCloud since we back our devices to the cloud.
Any suggestions/recommendations?  We share approximately 80-90% of our website logins to most message boards, financial sites etc so it would make sense to have a shared iCloud Keychain that is always in sync and up to date.
    Thanks
    Marco

Yep - I just ran into this for iCloud Keychain.  Like you, I've set up for my wife and I a shared iCloud account that we use for Contacts and Calendar so we always have the same data on our iPhones and Macbooks.
We've also used a shared LastPass account for a few years.  I just got a 5s with the fingerprint reader and thought that was worth trying to switch to iCloud Keychain.  However, I quickly ran into this dumb limitation of Apple not allowing this for a non-primary iCloud account.  This totally makes the feature useless for us - like you - and like many other families.
iCloud in general is just not designed with sharing/families in mind, which is very sad.  This hurts their customers in many areas including iBooks, NewsStand, Pages/Numbers/Keynote with docs stored in iCloud.  Do they really expect a family to buy multiple copies of the same book?  To have to email documents to each other to share (forget about collaborative editing)?  Even setting up shared calendar and contacts that I did took a lot of work and would be beyond the ability of a large percentage of home users.
I don't suppose anyone here has any connection to Apple developers who could give some sort of response to this issue?  I guess I could go to one of my local Apple Stores and talk to a "Genious" about this.  I'm sure it would be an exercise in futility like I've had on several previous occasions when asking about iOS and/or OSX features.  It always starts with some confusion in trying to get them to understand what I'm asking.  That's usually followed by comments from them to the effect of "why would anyone want to do that".  And, finally, if I can convince them that it's actually something really useful, followed by comments to the effect of "It just doesn't do that. Thanks for coming in!".
    Maybe I won't bother

  • ICloud keychain issues

    Hi,
I am having issues with my icloud keychain not being up to date on my imac. It is synced fine across my macbook pro, ipad, mac mini and iphone. However my imac is missing lots of entries. If I make a change on any of my other devices it syncs across. If I make a change on my imac it syncs across to my other devices. But all my entries in keychain from last year just do not appear on my imac.
I have tried turning keychain on, off, deleting the files, signing out of my apple id and back in but no luck.
Wondering if anyone had any ideas at all?
    Thanks,

Very good background info. You say "problem is that the keychains won't sync across devices" & "issues" (?same thing?) - please describe, in detail, each an every one and the steps taken to get your 'experience' - add screenshots if pertinent (*NO personal identifying info*)
You seem to have identified the upgrade to Yosemite on two Macs as the 'event(s)' that immediately preceded the behavior(s). Was it 'sudden'? Which event immediately preceded that?
It may be tedious, but we also need to know exactly what you have tried when you say "...all the troubleshooting on the support page including..." - every device and in what order. List links to the "support pages" to make it easier for all to follow.
When you say "... calls to engineering ..." do you mean Apple Support or some other level - be specific about your support communication timeline and personnel - and their specific efforts as far as you can tell us.
The two things that stand out right now are your several Apple domains for AppleIDs with the introduction of Yosemite as a trigger point. You list several, so does this mean you have these several active AppleIDs that you are trying to manage across 4 devices?
In all honesty, if Apple Insiders are unable to resolve your issues, the best you may hope for from us is a way to workaround them.
One crazy idea that pops into my head is for Apple to treat your old AppleIDs as deceased person(s) and make them help you to transfer ownership to the HEIR of the Estate as would a Probate Court - crazy, I know. My reasoning is that it is a common Mac troubleshooting tactic to create a New User - much more difficult when syncing (sharing?) is involved.
It has been my experience that, if you have discovered a flaw of some kind in OS(es) and/or iCloud - and it is specific to your situation - we may not see any improvement (if at all) until Version Update(s) are issued - always without much fanfare. For example, this is the current Release Notes document  for iOS 8.1.2

  • Yosemite iCloud keychain code problems

I have two computers(MBP, MacPro), iPhone and iPad.  Yosemite on MBP, Mavericks on the Mac Pro.
I thought I had keychain sharing set up on all devices.
I start up message on MBP - and it hangs - spinning wheel forever.  I start looking around - my iPhone isn't sharing keychain anymore.  Neither is my MBP - I try to turn it on - asks for security code, two different ones - and either I don't remember code I set up or something is screwed.  Now it says I need to contact support to verify my identity and dumps me to a generic support web site.   http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/keychain/
Also - when I have it use another device to approve - only the MacPro gets the request - but it doesn't seem to work.  I do get the SMS on my phone - but I still seem to be missing the iCloud security code - which I can't seem to change ANYWHERE!
I'm doing this from the non-admin user account on my MBP.  I also tried from the admin account - and faired no better.

I figured out the message/facetime problem.  I had one of the MBPs that did not have the serial number written to firmware. Message and FaceTime would never complete a login.  I downloaded the blank board serializer, burned a CD and booted it - entering the serial number I found under the battery and they started working.

  • I don't want passwords to sync on iCloud keychain for all devices

    Hi, hopefully someone can help
I bought an iPad for my Mum a few years ago. She's an elderly lady and doesn't know a lot about computers so the iPad was great! I set up her account (Apple ID etc) under my email so that I could log in and change updates etc when needed (and I'd remember my details!).
I've just purchased my first Apple product, the MacBook Pro (which I love btw). Because I'm new to Apple I'm still learning about iCloud/iCloud keychain. I registered my Mac Pro with my original Apple iD (the same one as my Mum's iPad). Now I realise it would have been better to register it with a new account as I don't want passwords/photos/apps etc. syncing from both devices.
I'm not sure how to get around this now? Definitely a rookie mistake, but like I said, I'm still learning!
    Thanks

Registering your Mac with a shared ID won't cause it to sync any data from an iCloud account.  Only signing into the same iCloud account in System Preferences>iCloud would do that.  You can leave your registration as it is now.  Just sign into iCloud with a different Apple ID in System Preferences>iCloud and your keychain and other iCloud data will be separate from your mum's.

  • Keychain versus iCloud Keychain

I am looking for an explanation of the difference between my local keychain and iCloud keychain.  And since iCloud is secured with a complex pass phrase, isn't it inherently safer than my local keychain?

Your local keychain is as secure as your keychain password. By default, the keychain password is the same as your login password. You can change it, but you'll have to unlock it separately when you log in.
Your local keychain is stored on your Mac and is only available to you while logged into your account on your Mac.
The iCloud keychain is stored on Apple's servers and is shared among all of your devices.

  • How can I use iCloud-keychain if i can not find my country in the country code list?

How can I use iCloud-keychain if i can not find my country in the country code list?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your country code does not appear in the list…
Go to System Preferences > iCloud > Keychain and enter your Apple ID password (Settings > iCloud > Keychain, from a mobile device)
Select the ‘Create Different Code’ option. (Mobile devices only)
Select the advanced option and choose whether to create a random code or no code, selecting the later allows syncing across devices but not with Apple’s servers.

  • Iphone 6 icloud photo sharing not working

Today I got an iphone 6, did all the updates, and tried to use the icloud photo sharing.  I can create a stream, add photos, and invite people to view; however, when other people accept the invitation nothing shows up except "No Items" despite me sharing 50+ photos.  Also, when the other person adds photos to the stream I don't see anything on my end.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi there matmkirk,

  • How do I access icloud keychain?

I know the password was kept in the icloud keychain?
On my Mac I start up the utility keychain. Put in enough letters too narrow the search, pick the correct password/user name. Authorise viewing the password in plain text. And read the result.
How do I do this with icloud?  I have a couple of websites where I can't authorize it anything.

    Hi Everret.
Aside from keychain, you can access your iCloud keychain on your iOS devices.
All you need to do is go to your Settings > Safari > Password > Autofill > Saved Passwords (you will need to enter your device passcode)
and then you can now view all the saved password from your iOS device.
    Hope it helps

  • How do I stop iCloud from sharing with other devices on my apple i.d?

My kids and I all share the one Apple i.d as they are young. I have just upgraded my iphone (to iphone 4) and I'm setting up iCloud for the first time. I have absolutely no idea how to use it.
I use my Calendar a lot, for all my appointments etc.
How do I prevent iCloud from sharing my Calendar, photos, messages, emails and everything else with my kids iphone and ipad? Some things are best kept private!
I have gone into settings, iCloud and tunred mail, calendar, contacts, photos and nearly everything to OFF. Will tha take care of the problem? Will iCloud still work on my phone then?

Yes, that should work. But let me ask one question, why do you set up your iCloud on your kids devices? If you share your Apple ID for store purchases (Apps, Music, Movies etc.) then just set it up in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Your kids do not need your iCloud account on their devices to get access to your media.

  • IOS 8 - iCloud Keychain with Multiple Login Accounts for a Site

I use iCloud Keychain to store multiple login accounts for a single website.
When using Safari on a Mac, the last login account I used for that site is prepopulated in yellow fields. If I want to change the login account, I clear the field with the login ID and I see a dropdown of all of the login accounts available for that site.
When using Safari on iOS 7, the last login account I used is prepopulated (just like with the Mac), but if I want to use a different login account, I need to enter enough characters in the login ID field for Safari to know which login account I want to use and then it autofills using that account.
Now, with iOS 8, all I get is the last login account I used. I can't figure out how to autofill any of my other login accounts for that site.
I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Mike

    Mike:
Did you ever find a solution for this? I just noticed the same behavior.

  • ICloud family sharing and iTunes Match

    Apple,
I have setup iCloud family sharing accounts for my household as it is definitely a more convenient way to 'approve' of apps for my kids' devices. Unfortunately, I discovered that Apple has not included the ability to share iTunes Match content to family users. This creates a problem as the kids don't have separate computers and I don't intend to create separate iTunes libraries for them on the same computer where I would end up having duplicate libraries. Even if I accept that issue I would have to subscribe to match for 4 people in my house to the tune of $99.96 a year. This is NOT feasible and so now I find my self evaluating the benefit/future need for even my iTunes Match subscription. At this point, I am moving all of my music that was "matched" to my NAS and will have everyone access it using an iOS app. The thing is that this doesn't fit the, "it just works" commitment that Apple offered to it's users. It may be that you are limited by the labels/RIAA and they will not allow you to pass the matched content through family sharing but you are making a compelling case for my to just drop my Match subscription even though I have subscribed to it since you first offered it. My subscription is up for renewal in January 2015 so let's see if you fix this issue by then.

    Hi,
You are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user forum. Suggest you provide feedback to Apple https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
