ICloud kills Mac Mail?

I moved my Mac Mail account to iCloud Just before Apple retired MobileMe. The confirmation message I received from Apple says I will be able to continue to use Mail on devices not compatible with iCloud. However, as of 7/1/12, my iMac running Leopard 10.5.8 no longer receives email to my Mac Mail inbox. In order to see my inbox, I have to log on to the Mail feature at iColud.com. Is there some setting the needs to be tweaked in my iMac Mail Preferences to make Mail work again on my Mac? Or have I misunderstood Apple's communication about non-compatible devices?

Hello, the problem is the servers have changed, you can Make Mail work even in 10.3.9
MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT - DO NOT TRY TO ALTER YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    •    SSL Required: Yes
    •    Port: 993
    •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    •    Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    •    SSL Required: Yes
    •    Port: 587
    •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    •    Password: Your iCloud password

Mac Mail: Editing a new email kills Mac Mail

Since yesterday, randomly, many times when I open a new email to edit, the window for the new email opens but it dies immediately and kills the whole Mac Mail. Any thoughts?

It sounds like you are unable to create a new email message because Mail makes the entire computer shutdown or become unresponsive. I would start by performing a Safe Boot and testing the issue there:
To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), follow these steps.
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without holding any keys during startup.

If that works then restart and test the issue again. If the issue persists try removing any log in items you have to see if something is interfering with Mail and test the issue again:

HT4847 I am using OS 10.4.11 and since being asked to submit to the iCloud my .mac mail account has barely functioned. What must I do to regain functionality?

First question: did you migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud before 1 August? If so, then you can access your iCloud email (though no other facilities) on Tiger by following these instructions:

If you did not migrate you can reactivate the address (though not its previous contents) but you cannot do this on Tiger: you would need access to a Lion Mac or an iOS5/6 device.

ICloud and .mac mail

Good day Apple Community
I had to convert to iCloud to keep my .mac mail account.
My question is, do people continue sending mail to my .mac
account, or will they have to now use .me?
I got a rather confusing message stating that I could keep my
mail account at [email protected]
Just looking on some clarification so I know if I have to send out a
mass email notification.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sending the email to my .mac home account, as well as my 'mobile me' remote

Why do I show both the iCloud and .mac mail accounts on my phone

I have an icloud account and both the .mac and icloud mail account show up on my iphone. Is this necessary? If I disable mail on the icloud page of my phone, will the mail be accessable in icloud but not show as a seperate account on my phone?

You can't merge the backups, you'll have to delete the backup of your old phone. If it says it's currently in use when you try, that will normally clear up on its own but may take 3-5 days to do so. Give it a few days and try deleting the old backup again.
In the meantime, you can create a manual backup of your new phone on your computer by connecting it to your computer, opening iTunes, clicking on the name of your phone in iTuens, going to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and clicking Back Up Now. Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases. Then you'll be safe until you can start backup up to iCloud again.

ICloud to Mac mail

Can I get Mac's mail app to read my iCloud mailbox like it did with my Mobile Me account? If so, what settings, and if not, oh well, at least I can say, "I don't know about the e-mail, it must be lost in the iCloud."

What system are you using - please always post this as it can make quite a difference to the answer.
Lion - it should be set up automatically when you sign in and check the Mail checkbox.

Since icloud change mac mail not working on computers but fine on iphone?

Since the icloud conversion recently, my mac email on both my macbook and powermac are neither working. My mac email is functioning fine on my iphone? What's the deal???

That would be an iCloud server issue. Not much you can do to troubleshoot that. Simply wait till Apple's engineers get it resolved, which is usually fairly quick!

E-mail filtering in iCloud mail is amateurish and nearly useless. No booleans. No nested rules. Can anyone suggest how I can get these things in iCloud or Mac Mail?

I need some real sophisticated filtering and I can't figure out how to do this with Mail on the iPad. No booleans, (and, not, etc.) no redirects. This is nearly useless in a real world setting

I'm afraid that whether or not there are any plans about this, Apple don't tell us. If they do decide to increase the facilities we will only know when they implement it. (And by the Terms of Us of these Discussions we are not allowed to speculate.)

Mac mail no longer works with iCloud

Since installing icloud, my mac mail is no longer working.

You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:

Mac mail won't delete or organize messages once downloaded from icloud.

I am having issues with icloud and mac mail where once my mail downloads I can't delete messages or organinze them on my mac. I have to go to icloud to delete messages. If I delete them on my mac they just reappear again later. If I put them in my organizing folders in my mail then they get moved back to my inbox later. How do I get this fixed?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.

Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. ClickOK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Mac mail version 4.5(1084/1085) can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8(Build 10K549)

At some stage today I did an update which has killed Mac Mail.
I have read the forums, performed a combo update 10.6.8 with no result, I still get the error

I have booted off an older clone and mail was fine. I may have to go for a fresh install of the system but it annoys me to have to do that. It's gotta be something simple!

Make sure Mail is selected in System Preferences > iCloud
Launch Mac Mail. From that menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Account Information tab then the Accounts tab.
Make sure iCloud is selected from the Outoing Mail Sever (SMTP)
And the correct User Name and Password are typed in under: Incoming Mail Server

How to stop ios mail deleting icloud email from mac mail?

This is driving me insane.
I have an icloud email address set up on my iphone and mac mail.
I want to leave emails on my phone 'on the server'. Read them when i'm out, delete them... come home and have them all come through on mail where i'll deal with them.
Right now if I delete them on my phone, they're deleted on mac mail also.
I have all my regular email addresses set up to do this. Except the one icloud address I want to move everything to!!!

It sounds like your iPhone does whatever your iPad does with regard to joining or forgetting a Wi-Fi network. From what you are describing it seems to me that iCloud Keychain is enabled, as this is a function of that feature. The only way to stop what you are seeing from happening is to disable iCloud keychain on one of the devices:

My Mac Mail send stopped working during a large number of mail sends yesterday.Could that be an issue? If so, what to do?
Message further reads - The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server smtp.mail.me.com.
I deleted the account and set it up again, but still can't get the mail out. Same messages
If I go on to iCloud, mail send is working fine.
Can anyone see anything wrong or suggest what to do?
I've deleted the user name below for the screenshot.

There is no user name entered in your SMTP (advanced) preferences.

I cannot send mail from 1 of my iCloud accounts using mac mail- smtp problem

Slightly strange problem today with smtp server. For some reason timing out on po4 on one of my accounts. Another account uses po2 and is working fine. If I log in to icloud I can send messages so problem appears to be in configuration of mac mail. I have not changed anything, I can receive mail. When trying to change smtp I cannot edit the smtp box or if i do it reverts to what it was previously. Any suggestions ?
