Icloud login on my old computer

Hi  - I sold my old 17" MBP well over a year ago.  I wiped the hard drive (Securely - the one that takes hours) and reinstalled OSX from an internet download direct from Apple.
Today I was using 'find my iphone' when a device called 'John Smith's Macbook Pro' appeared on my list of devices.  its never done this before.  It was showing a location hundreds of miles from me and I assume its the MBP I had sold.  I sent it a message and got a reply from the guy that bought it from me stating he was installing OSX 10.9 and the computer has locked.  He has asked me if I had a pin for the device which I assume he needs to unlock the computer or he stated he would have to go to an Apple store and prove ownership in order to get it set up again.
I think the guy is genuine and it is a valued request but why would it have shown up on my devices after I had wiped the hard drive.  Could he have access to my iCloud account?

No, it does not mean that he had access to your account, but it means that you were signed in to your iCloud account when you wiped it one year ago and that you did not sign out of iCloud before you wiped it. It is just a security mechanism of iCloud (Find My iPhone, Find My Mac) which help you to find your device even if it gets stolen and somebody wipe your device.

  • How do I disable my iCloud account from an old computer I sold?

I recently sold my iMac, and thought I removed everything, but Safari is still syncing my bookmarks.  When the new owner adds a bookmark to my old computer, it shows up on my own computer here.  I clearly did not completely get iCloud off the old computer.

Did you ever resolve this? I'm in a similar boat, and it's driving me crazy. Thanks for any help.

  • HT4759 the iCloud Login shows my old email address as my login and asks for an old p/w which I don't remember.

How do I update iCloud on my iPhone to show my new login and p/w?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep.

I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting the new computer, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep. I want to use my iCloud password on both computers consistently. How can I fix this?

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:
iCloud- Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

  • If icloud is not on my computer will that affect login into icloud through my iphone 4s

the SIGN IN TO ICLOUD DIALOG BOX reappears after I enter my password. Additionally, icloud is not downloaded on to my computer. Why isn't icloud accepting my password ? How do I resolve this issue?

Original Question:  if icloud is not on my computer will that affect
login into icloud through my iphone 4s
On my iphone, a dialog box appears asking for user login to icloud-- ENTER
USER   "password".  After  I attempt to
login  in to i-cloud the dialog box re-appears asking for AGAIN user
password login and  will not remove from  main screen.
( Please continue reading and thank you for your response.) I received a response ques. asking, Are you trying to login to i-cloud? Yes, I was trying to login to         i-cloud in order to remove the dialog box which will not remove after each time, I entered the correct  i-cloud LOGIN USER "PASSWORD" requesting to be entered.
My first thought was (my iphone does not have wifi connection) to connect to
wifi because the user login is not connecting  permitting login to be
accepted.  I selected cancel to bypass the dialog box asking for user
Login password to icloud  in order to remove it from the home
screen.    I attempt to go to wifi settings. The dialog
box will re- appear preventing from SELECTING wifi settings because
the dialog box does not give enough time to remove itself from main
screen in order to  change wifi settings in which to allow wifi.
Additionally, my thought it is the correct Login password being enter
because when online at the icoud login page asking for username and password,
both are accepted and allow access.
Also, one thought to the issue, after opening iTunes it has stated that my
icloud session has expired. My intentions at this moment are
not to purchase a subscription to icloud at this time. Although i
would like to access the account later on, if there wouldn't
be conditional problems with iclouds at a later point in time, then there
would not be any concerns deleting the icloud account in order to remove the
icloud dialog box.  However, i would consider deleting acct as a last
    step.

    ===================
SO AFTER ATTEMPTING TO TROUBLESHOOT THE I -CLOUD  ISSUE ON THE PHONE
    1. THE PHONE SHOULD BE ACTIVE AND HAVE WIFI SERVICE.
2.THE ICLOUD DIALOG BOX ASKING FOR ICLOUD USER LOGIN PASSWORD HAS TWO SELECTIONS. SHOWING "OK" BUTTON FOR ENTERING PASSWORD AND "CANCEL."   WIFI IS NEEDED TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.YOU MUST BE QUICK TO BYPASS THE DIALOG BOX AND ATTEMPT TO SELECT THE WIFI CONNECTION IN ORDER TO PROCEED TO RESOLVE I-CLOUD ISSUE WITH DIALOG BOX RE-APPEARING.
ADDITIONALLY, I SELECTED TO DELETE THE ACCOUNT. JUST BEFORE I CHANGED SETTINGS AND CONNECTED WITH WIFI.
I AM NOT SURE IF THE CHANGES WENT THROUGH.
ADDITIONALLY , ON MY IPHONE 4S, I WENT TO SETTINGS MENU AND SAW THAT MY DATA WAS NOT ON!!
    I TURNED IT ON
ICLOUD ON MY IPHONE ASKED TO LOGIN WITH USERNAME ACCOUNT AND USERNAME PASSWORD. AND THEN ASKED IF I WANTED TO MERGE ACCOUNT INFORNMATION.
I MYSELF, UNSURE OF THE OUTCOMES CHOSE NIETHER. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY RESPONSE UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE OF MERGING OR NOT MERGING ICLOUD ACCOUNT AND WAS IT A RESULT OF DELETEING THE OLD ICLOUD ACCOUNT.
THE DIALOG BOX REMOVED ITSELF FROM THE MAIN SCREEN AND FROM MY UNDERSTAND ACCEPTED THE USERNAME PASSWORD WHEN I LOGGED IN AND UPDATED THE FILE,  AS A RESULT FROM THE START, WAS CHANGED DUE TO FORGETTIG THE OLD PASSWORD.
AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING MYSELF, I LEARNED THAT YOU NEED WIFI   IN ORDER FOR THE CONNECTION TO GO THROUGH IN WHICH IS NEED FOR THE DEVICE TO COMMUNICATE. AND YOUR DATA ON YOUR PHONE SETTING SHOULD BE ON IN ORDER TO ALLOW WIFI CONNECTION TO BE ENABLED.
IF MY UNDERSTANDING IS CORRECT, THOSE CHANGES SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED IN WHICH TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE OF THE DIALOG BOX FROM RE-APPEARING ON THE MAIN SCREEN.
I WISH THERE WAS MORE HELP INVOLVED IN RESOLVING  THESE TECHNICAL ISSUES. I AM SERVING IN THE MILITARY OVERSEAS AND AS CALLED FOR TECHNICAL HELP, I WAS USING A PHONE CARD WITH A LIMITED AMOUNT OF MINUTES. I have a new computer and I want to use the "MasterPassword" again. How do I import all of the saved website passwords/logins from my old FireFox computer?

    A couple of methods.
The first is to copy 2 files, key3,db and signons.sqlite from the profile folder of the old computer t the profile folder of the new computer. For details of how to find the profile folder see the [[profiles]] article.
The second method is to install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848/ Password Exporter] add-on on both computers and use that to export/import the passwords.

  • Changed my Apple ID email, but ICloud does not recognize my new login, only my old one (which is now non-existent) HELP!

Changed my Apple ID email, but ICloud does not recognize my new login, only my old one (which is now non-existent) and requires the password to do anything. Everytime I go onto the ICloud  page it shows my old email and requires the password, but I can't exactly type in a password because that won't work. I can't find a way to change my email or delete ICloud.

If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

  • My IPad shows my old iTunes login for ICloud. I cannot remember the old password - is there a way I can retrieve it or reset ICloud login without it ?

I updated my ITunes ID and password, but my IPad2 keeps prompting me to backup on ICloud with the former ID/password.  Support says to delete the current ICloud account, but I am prompted for the former password to do this. I cannot remember the former password nor find a way to retrieve it. How do I either change the ICloud login ID prompt or retrieve the former ID password ?

    Hello alljnii,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPad 2.  I recommend resetting the password for your old Apple ID to resolve this issue.
You can reset a forgotten Apple ID or iCloud password by going to the following link:
    Apple - iForgot
    https://iforgot.apple.com
If you have a rescue email setup for your Apple ID, the reset password email will be sent there and not your Apple ID email address:
When you provide a rescue email address, all future security emails, such as password resets from iForgot, will be sent to the address provided.

For the past two weeks, every time I start up my computer I'm asked for an iCloud login. I've never used iCloud and I'm not likely to. How do I get this login to stop automatically showing up? I'm using an iMac G5 with OS 10.9.4.

One more quick thing first. Hold the SHIFT key this time as you startup and see if that gets you any further (this is called 'Safe Mode' by the way). I'm not too confident that this will work in your case but it's worth a try. If it boots up, go into Disk Utility and repair permissions.
If it doesn't, you're going to have to do an Archive & Install which will install a fresh copy of the OS over the top BUT keep all your users, files and apps in place.

  • How to transfer icloud data from old computer to new computer

how to transfer icloud data from old computer to new computer

The iCloud data will be on the new computer as soon as you download the iCloud control panel and sign into iCloud with your iCloud ID. What you see in iCloud is stored in iCloud, so it really doesn't matter what computer you are on. Once that computer is signed onto iCloud and the iCloud options are selected, you have full access to all of that information, and much of it is pushed back to your computer.
If you are referring to the data in an iCloud backup created by an iOS device, then that is not something that would be on a computer at all.
Does that answer your question? If not, post back with more info about what you are looking to find out.

I can not sync my old computer itunes library to my ipod or to icloud. I have the latest version of itunes, yet the button where you click for itunes match is not there. Any thoughts or suggestions?

When you say you have the latest version, what is the specific version?  I only ask because I hear people say that all the time and they have no clue what version they have or what the latest version is.
What happens when trying to sync the device with iTunes?
What specific device and what version of iOS?
iCloud alone is not syncing of music... what exactly are you trying to accomplish with iCloud?  Have you signed up for iTunes Match?  If not... there is no syncing of media via iCloud.

You need iOS 5 to create and use iCloud on the iPod.  For a computer, you need OSX 10.7 or Vista or later.
