ICloud mail address setup issue

I have a @mac.com Apple ID with @me.com iCloud mail address. When setting up iCloud on my iPhone 4, the email address always defaults to ****@mac.com, when infact I need the email address to be @me.com. The @mac.com address is not actually an email, just the ID. The @me.com address was just setup after the release of iCloud, and is associated with the @mac.com ID. If I go to iCloud.com, I can sign in with either the @mac or the @me.com and both bring me to the same Apple ID @mac.com....man this is long winded..
So, how can I use iCloud with my iPhone if it defaults to a non-existant address and won't let me change it? Anyone else had this issue?

Ooops... Found this

  • ICloud mail address as primary

    Hello.
I noticed that new iCloud users could create Apple ID with iCloud mail address as primary. Just when they buy new Mac/iDevice and starting iCloud, they get @icloud.com address and @me.com address and thats it. They could use them as Apple ID login and need nothing else.
I use Apple services for a long time, so my Apple ID was created before iCloud introducing. And I have to use third-party email addres (google, yahoo, etc) as my Apple ID. Even since my iCloud was merged with my Apple ID and I'm able to login both with third-party email and iCloud email - I still have to use third-party email as primary and I cant change it to iCloud mail (system says that primary email cant be from Apple domain). Why? Why new users could do this and I can not? I dont need third-party email, I dont want to worry about its security (because its a key to all my iCloud services), I want to use just and only Apple service with Apple domain and iCloud address. Why I couldnt do this? Of course I can create new Apple ID (since new users dont have to use third-party address), but I have much apps purchaised from my current Apple ID.

Ideally, you should purchase your own domain name and setup an e-mail address there. Then, if you want, you can forward that to your @icloud.com account.
You can, of course, use an @icloud.com account like any other e-mail address. But, like any other e-mail address, you don't own it. It is owned by "iCloud.com" - Apple. If Apple decided to change plans, or start charging, you have to do as you're told because Apple owns your e-mail address. The same would be true for any e-mail address that you don't own.
Just get your own domain and forward your e-mail to whomever has the best services for your needs.

  • HT201342 how can i change my icloud mail address. thanks

how can i change my icloud mail address.
    thanks

You can't change the name of your @me.com or @icloud.com address, but you can set up an alias with a different name that will still deliver email to your iCloud inbox.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • Can I change my .me alias to my main iCloud mail address?

I don't like my .me address which I've set up a year ago (with mobileme) and always use my .me alias.
I would like to alter my .me alias mail address to my main iCloud mail address and/or Apple ID.
When I try to change it in the Apple ID settings it doesn't work.
I was trying to set up a completely new iCloud account but because I already moved from mobileme, the function to set up a new account (therefore to get a new mail address) doesn't even appear.
What can I do? It's very tedious to manually switch the mail account, I am sending emails from, on my iOS devices manually all the time.

You change the name of your ID at https://appleid.apple.com.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40.

  • Can I link my icloud mail address to another Apple ID?

I have an Apple ID with a related email address. I would like to delete the Apple ID but not lose the mail address, could anyone tell me How to keep the email address (an Icloud.com address) but link it to another Apple ID? Thanks.

It will delete the email account.  If you want to keep the iCloud email account, you can go to Settings>iCloud and turn off everything but Mail.  If you are changing iCloud accounts, you can add it back the existing email account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud, signing in with the current account ID and turning Mail on.  (Mail in a secondary account like this will be fetch rather than push email.)

  • How do I get on line stores to recognize my iCloud mail address

when I use my icloud mail for on line shopping or when it's needed for something , there sites do not recognize my email and I can't finish the form .

Yet, I've changed my AppleID in iTunes from the original/initial account to the new and can download music, movies, etc. through iTunes.
So why is this popup window for Updates, which is from the iTunes store, still referencing the old email address?

  • Does someone else have my iCloud Mail address?

I'm either being scammed or someone else has been issued my iCloud email address.
Just started getting lots of "Facebook" titled emails sent to my iCloud address. They are in the name of a different user, though, not me.
How can I contact Apple if this is a duplicate email issued by them in error? How can I tell if it's bogus?

Thanks, but, your link took me here, http://www.apple.com/support/contact/, and the "get started button" didn't work.
Is there another way to access the kb information?
Edit: Actually took me here, https://getsupport.apple.com/Issues.do, and I get the spinning gear.

  • TS4002 Changing iCloud mail address

Please help me to change from a mistyped email address,  [email protected] to [email protected]
It seems a permanent email address in icloud preference and it won't let me change.
I've tried to change in www.icloud.com, iPad/iCloud setting, and iTune. All didn't do it.
Perhaps if I change my apple ID, I may be able to change this email address...
Is this only way ?? It's not making a sense it won't let me change a simple icloud email change
    for this much hassle.
Thank you for your advise in advance !!

Once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @me.com or @icloud.com address to go with it you can't change the address (short of creating an entirely new account).
However, all is not lost. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.
You should however be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account, move it to another account, or reactivate it if you delete it.

  • Icloud mail address question?

So I've tried to research the answer to this, but cannot get a straight answer.
So my Apple ID is [email protected] and My Icloud account is [email protected] (both are the same) but my icloud email address to send and receive emails at is [email protected] (this was the same as an old email used as my apple id at the time that icloud was created)
Is there anyway that I can change the YYY@icloud email address or if not remove that email address linked to my icloud account log in email [email protected] by creating a new icloud account with new @icloud email?
    I hope someone can help.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi labaker_05,
iCloud accounts using email addresses ending in iCloud.com cannot be changed. See this article -
    Change your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621
You can change your Apple ID to any address, except an address used by another Apple ID. You can change the address of any Apple ID, except an Apple ID that ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com.
Your [email protected] email address is actually an Apple ID (and iCloud account) that is separate from  the Apple ID and iCloud account using [email protected]
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L

  • Mail server setup issues

    Hi.
I am in trouble setting up a basic mail server. I just spent the last 10 or so hours, in one more try to set it, and yet no results.
Please, give some help as i am becoming sort of desperated with it
This time, i followed this guide since the beginning.
    What I've done:
    - Created a user vmail, with home directory set on /var/mail/vmail/
    - Had a LAMP server already working.
    - Created two databases: postfix_db and roundcube_db, owned by postfix_user and roundcube_user respectively.
    - Since it is for personal use and i don't use "old/odd clients like Outlook"  i skipped smtps. And made the following files:
My postfix main.cf(every commented line removed):

    - From what i can see, postfixadmin used and populated its database, but not roundcube.
    - I can open postfixadmin and log in with no apparent errors (not that i know what to do with it instead of roundcube, but at least works...)
    - Whenever i open roundcube it begins to output errors everywhere about db connection (I was only able after changing its .htaccess to Allow from all, is it a bad idea?)
DB Error in /usr/share/webapps/roundcubemail/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_db.php (416): [1146] Table 'roundcube_db.session' doesn't exist (SQL Query: SELECT vars, ip, changed FROM session WHERE sess_id = 'pq5ofv7ja0gh2sunsg38jmd3g1')

Thats all i know. Whats wrong? (i already tried to set db logins with no pw at all, but still with the same problems)
How far am i to be able to send/receive one email? Please, tell me i am close...
Mail servers could be so much more linear to set up
Thanks for your help. Time to get some sleep!

The roundcube db schema needs to setup manually. See /usr/share/webapps/roundcube/INSTALL
    Also, from your /etc/webapps/postfixadmin/config.inc.php:
    $CONF['domain_path'] = 'NO';
    $CONF['domain_in_mailbox'] = 'YES';
    $CONF['maildir_name_hook'] = 'NO';
    ..which results in /var/mail/vmail/[email protected]
    From your dovecot.conf
    mail_home = /var/mail/vmail/%d/%u
    ...which results in /var/mail/vmail/domain.com/user
    That doesn't fit together.

  • ICloud, Mail, Safari, Aperture Issues

Since upgrading to Mavericks I've had issues with Mail, Safari, and Aperture failing to quit.
Also, in System Preferences, iCloud fails to load.
I have re-installed Mavericks, performed a repair permissions, and the only thing that gets me going again (until the next fail) is to force quit the applications and re-start.
Sure would appreciate some guidance here.
    Thanks, in advance.

I'll try that next time one of those applications hangs.
I did find the icloudhelper in Activity Monitor and force quit it, then did a restart.  It was back running after the restart, of course.
I'm hoping someone will help here with a permanent fix.
    Thanks for your post.

  • Manage e-mail addresses - password issue

    Dear Community!
I have got a following issue, I hope you can give me any solutions:
I just logged in to my skype account to change the primary email address, but when I tried to save it it asked for my password, and it would not like to accept it. However, some minutes before it was all right for logging in, and in parallel, I used it for logging in to onedrive, too. I use my Microsoft Account to sign in to skype, as I am an old Messenger user, keeping that account to sign in. What should I do for arranging my emails? (Caps Lock and Num Lock are off, so it should not affect the password.)
I am waiting for a helpful answer.

  • Outlook mail account setup issues

I just bought a surface pro3 and installed office 365. When I go to open Outlook and create an account it gives me the following error.
"The connection to Microsoft Exchange is currently unavailable. Outlook must be connected or online to complete this action".
I have installed the same account on a pro 2 with no issues.  What is causing the problem?

    Hi,
This problem can be that we need to specify the domain we want to connect to and we don't have a field to do that in the settings dialogs forms available in setting up accounts in Outlook 2013.
Please try the following steps to solve this issue:
Close Outlook if it is running
From control panels - select the User Accounts and Family Safety item, then the Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2013) item and then the Email Accounts option.
Select the Email tab and click ‘New...’ button to create a new email account
Choose the standard Email account option in the following form. (Not the 'Manual' option')
Enter your Exchange account details - no alterations necessary here. Just your standard details.
As the account verification proceeds you are prompted to again enter your username and password details. In this form, instead of using the top option with your username already populated, click the lower 'Other user' option and enter your domain\username
details. (Note domain and username are separated by a backslash (\) character This changes the domain. Enter your password as usual.
I was prompted to do this twice - same each time. Enter domain\username in the username field and usual password
    Account is then created.
Open Outlook to complete the process and synchronies data with Exchange.
Hope this will be helpful for you.
    Best Regards.

  • Mail app setup issues... incoming server can't be set

Upgraded to Lion last evening and the OSX Mail app hasn't been able to download mail from my me.com account since.
The alert icon is displayed and the message states: "Alert: There may be a problem with the mail server or network.  Verify the account settings for the account or try again.  Failed to connect to iCloud server".
When I go to Mail Preferences and check out the account settings, the incoming server is set to "mail.example.com", not "mail.me.com" like it is on other Macs I have.  That field is greyed out and I can't change the server to the correct name.
Anyone have a suggestion for me?
    Thanks,
    Johnny

I'm sorry, but glad to hear I'm not the only one with the problem.
I'm still using iCloud on the web to get my mail with no other help coming from anywhere.

  • Odd Mail Server Setup Issues

So after purchasing my new Xserve which i will be using as my company's primary mail server.
i own a domain hosted by my ISP, and I have a static IP. I have also purchased a sonicwall pro 2040 firewall and have opened up the ports needed for the mail service smtp, pop, imap and web for webmail.
I have already configured the MX and A settings with my ISP DNS server.
i will be using an example.com as my domain.
    My current settings are,
    Computer Name : mail.example.com
In Computer Services under Mail i have the following things checked off.
General (the list below i have checked off)
    -> Enable Pop
    -> Enable SMTP
    -> Allow incoming mail
    domain :example.com
    hostname : mail.example.com
Relay (the list below i have checked off)
-> Accept SMTP relays only from these hosts and networks
    127.0.0.1/32
    my static ip
my mail server local lan address
-> Use these junk mail rejection servers
    zen.spamhaus.org
Filters (the list below i have checked off)
-> Scan email for Junk @ 5 junk score
-> Scan email for virus and delete
-> update the junk mail and virus 1 time a day
    Quotas
-> Refuse incoming mail larger the 25MB
    Advanced
Not sure what i should do here, my staff will be accessing email from all over north america and ideas i have played around a bit but nothing makes me able to set a mail client up to my server.
Hosting -> local host and my domain.
In my log files for mail access its also says empty option value on line 15 of the config file.
    Anyone have any ideas.

You might also want to harden OSX.4 Tiger server against spam. I wrote an article which details implementing greylisting, blackholes, backscatter filtering, checking the sending mail server, recipient and email content. This supplements the anti-virus and spam checks already included in OSX Server to significantly reduce spam received and load on the mail server.
