ICloud Mail Alias Disappearing

For the 3rd time I had all my alias wiped out and I can't create them again. As was using an alias as my primary mail, what should I do? Forget iCloud mail and go back to Gmail?

I'm afraid not. Once created, an alias remains tied forever to the account which created it: you cannot move it to another account, turn it into a full account, or reinstate it once you've deleted it.

  • My icloud mail is disappearing

My Icloud mail keeps disappearing from my Mac, Iphone, Ipad and Pod. Please what can I do?

Check in the Archive folder to see if they are missing or if they were just moved from the Inbox.
Do you have Time Machine backup? If yes, you can recover but in the mean time, you might want to forward your messages to another account as backup. You can setup a Gmail or Outlook.com account if you don't have a second account.
    Forward all messages automatically
              1.          In iCloud Mail, choose Preferences from the Action pop-up menu  in the sidebar.
              2.          In the General pane, select “Forward my email to,” then type the forwarding address in the text field.
              3.          If you don’t want to store a copy of each forwarded message in iCloud, select “Delete messages after forwarding.”
Keep in mind that storing copies of forwarded messages decreases your available iCloud storage space.
              4.          Click Done.

  • I can't delete an iCloud Mail-Alias.

I've created an Mail-Alias on icloud.com and can't delete this Alias on icloud.com although there is a button which should delete it. There is always a failure message which tells me that the Alias can't be deleted because there is a "Server Problem". After this message Mail crashes and I need to reload it.

    All,
I have just spoken to Apple Support using my Apple Care Express Lane service...
I too had the crashing issue when trying to delete a "capitalized" alias.
The lovely gentleman on the phone simply reset my iCloud Web Mail preferences from his side. This changed all my aliases to lower case, allowing me to delete them as I saw fit.
It seems to be a discrepancy with the iCloud Web Mail preferences pane and the back-end preferences file... The file stores ALL iCloud mail addresses in lower case, meaning when the Web Mail app sends a delete request for a capitalized alias, it fails - it must be case sensitive.
So, if you can get a request in to Apple Support (maybe via the Genius Desk) ask them to reset your iCloud Web Mail preferences.
    I hope this helps.
And hopefully the Apple Techs will fix the preferences link!

  • Configure an iCloud mail alias on an non iOS device

    hello,
I was given a non-iOS device, the one that compete with the iPhone, and in its default mail client I successfully set up my iCloud mail as IMAP, but I want use one of my aliases to send mail from, is it possible?

To clarify, I have an iPhone as a personal device, the other device is for work purposes, but would like to configure my iCloud mail to have options.

  • ICloud Mail: Alias cannot be saved

When I logged in on iCloud.com (also on my iPod Touch) my mail aliases have been disappeared! And that happens now that I wanted to switch to iCloud as mail service. Then I tried to create a new one, doesn't matter what I fill in, what label color I choose or what description I give, It just doesn't let me create an alias, the message I get is, and I try to quote: 'Your alias cannot be saved!'. That's it! I wish I could create an alias because I use my alias as, some kind, of my primary address.
I tried it in the web app, as well as in my iPod Touch, they've just vanished, gone.
To be clear: I am no mobileme user, nor have my account been transferred (mobileme -> iCloud).
Can anybody help me or does anybody has the same problem? Please let me know in this discussion topic so we can collect all these issues.

The .me alias i replaced now with the @icloud.com.
So al the .me adressess i had (and did not use) are now @icloud.com
But if i e-mail to my e-mail adres (or alias) @icloud.com the message is rejected.
Seems that there is some development, i'll wait a little longer. The error now is:
Reason: Remote SMTP server has rejected address
Diagnostic code: smtp;550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias:  *****@icloud.com
    Remote system: dns;p01-asmtpout.me.com (TCP|17.172.204.247|41851|17.172.193.192|25)

  • Help! iCloud Mail aliases disappeared!

The 3 Mail aliases I had since a long time associated with my iCloud (before Mobile Me, still before .Mac) account have suddenly disappeared.
When someone tries to send me an email to one of my aliases, it is bounced with the following message: "5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias".
On my iCloud account in Account Preferences in Mail on my iMac, the aliases are still there. But when I try to send a message with one of them, it can't be sent with the following message: "From address is not one of your addresses".
I can however still send and receive messages with/to the main email address of my iCloud account.
The same happens on my iMac, on my iPhone and with iCloud on Safari.
When I go to Account Preferences in iCloud.com on Safari, it shows "0 of 3 aliases in use". When I try to add back my aliases, it shows "Alias unavailable".
This is a big problem for me: people send me email to my aliases all the time, instead of to my main email address.

    Problem resolved.

  • ICloud mail has disappeared

I appear to have accidentally deleted my entire iCloud mailbox - although am unable to find any of the emails in my archive or trash. I was using Mail.app on OS X Lion and was sending an email containing a couple of attachments that didn't end up sending. When I next checked my inbox all my emails had gone. My iPad and iPhone are also displaying 0 emails and the same occurs when I log on to iCloud via the browser. Is there a way of getting the emails back?

Hi Elliot have you actually solved this problem? Accidentially the same thing happened here.
Every Mac or iOS device I turn on ... syncs and gone is the mail. Is there any hidden undelete feature in iCloud?
The only other way I could think of is to actually retrieve the inbox from mail.app from a time machine backup i.e. or another back up. But I do wonder, if it is possible to easily exchange the inbox folder and hope that it syncs with the IMAP server.

So I basically won't run into any trouble? I
There should be no issues. Its designed to work like that.  You don't change Apple IDs just because you get a new device.

Is there any chance that the phones can fall out of sync?
Unlikely. But nothing is impossible.   Though I don;t see how that would happen. As long as both are signed into the Same Apple ID / iCloud Account they will be N'Sync. (Bad Joke)

If I get a message or buy an app or take a photo on the iPhone 5, how do I get those things onto the iPhone 6?
If you buy an App, you have 2 ways to get it to the iPhone6: If Automatic Downloads is enabled in Settings->iTunes & App Store, it will automatically download to the iPhone 6 when you buy it on the 5 and vice versa if you buy it on the 6, it will download to the 5.
Alternatively, you can simply go to the App Store App->Updates->Purchased and look for the App there and download it. Purchased Apps will not require payment again. i.e They'll be free to download to the iPhone 6 once purchased.
SMS Messages will sync over using Continuity as long as they are on the same Wifi network. Otherwise, restoring the iPhone 5 backup to the iPhone 6 will transfer all messages received up until the backup was made onto the iPhone 6.
Images, can be transferred either through Photo Stream
My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support
Or any Cloud service you want such as Dropbox, or One Drive.

Also, something i forgot to ask initially: Should I update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8 first or does that not matter?
If you want the Continuity features as explained above you need to update the iPhone 5 to iOS 8. Otherwise its not all that important.

  • TS4002 Can't create any alias in iCloud mail, see message "Cannot save alias.

Can't create any alias in iCloud mail, see message "Cannot save alias. This alias cannot be saved at this time". I tried different variations at different dates (I thought this is temporary issue) but this not helped me. Perhaps some of you have resolved this issue and can tell me how I can do it?

Do you see in account settings two email addresses - with "@me.com" and "@icloud.com"? Or only "@me.com"? In second case just wait - your account will be updated in some time. I've waiting from summer and my account was updated in one day as soon as I've start this discussion   When your account will be updated - you will see in preferences two addresses, with "@me.com" and with "@icloud.com".

  • ICloud mail on iPad, iPhone, and iMac - it disappears

I've seen a lot of people asking about this, but no solutions that suit my version of the issue.
I have an iPad 2, iPhone 4s, and an iMac that's 1 year old, exactly. All are set up for iCloud mail, and I'm using Entourage as the mail client on the iMac. I don't expect anyone here to debug Entourage for me, but I did follow the instructions on apple.com for setting up iCloud on a mail client like Entourage, as IMAP, etc.
What happens is, I get emails on the phone and the iPad, but I don't 100% trust that I'm getting them all. But, if I pull the IMAP mail in Entourage, the email shows up and then some of it (not all of it) disappears. The phone, the ipad, and Entourage all end up in sync, but missing the same emails for no reason. There is no setting on the phone or ipad to 'move' or 'copy' emails after they are read. And I don't have any rules or settings in Entourage to do anything like that, either. I assume this has something to do with IMAP mail-handling that is unfamiliar to me, but I'm not sure what it would be. There is no setting anywhere to say, 'just leave the mail where it is', or 'move the mail somewhere else'.
On the iPad, i can't even check webmail for iCloud, because it won't do anything but show me a page withe 'setup, install find my iphone, or install find my friends' as options. No login, no logout, no option to view mail or docs or anything else.
All of this seems like it can't be normal or intended behavior. I really don't trust iCloud email anymore, and maybe the only answer is to not use Entourage. But I use that to pull gmail, yahoo, aol, and other POP mail accounts, so having to open 'Mail' just to read my mac.com mail seems like an unnecessary nuisance.
    Any ideas?

So, I've noticed that in Entourage, the messages don't 'disappear'. They are moved to the normal Inbox and deleted from the new Inbox that was created when I set up the new IMAP account. If I set preferences to only *mark* the messages rather than 'delete' them, then they stay in the IMAP Inbox with red 'x' marks next to them, and they show up in the normal Inbox, marked as 'read'.
However, once that happens, and I don't know why it happens, then the messages are deleted from the iPad and iPhone immediately, and they're not moved anywhere else; just deleted from those devices.
Again, the iPad won't let me view webmail, but at least I know what's happening in Entourage.

  • All my mail have disappeared From my mac and my iOS devices. Seemingly from the iCloud server as well. How can I recover them?

All my mail have disappeared from my mac and my iOS devices. Seemingly from the iCloud server as well. How can I recover them?

Well, you can't since the emails are stored on icloud's mail server.  Try this test, using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and check the mail page.  If they are gone, then they are really gone.
Now, I thought I could go into a Time Machine backup and view old emails from a day ago.  Unfortunately, Time Machine doesn't seem to save icloud based email, since regardless of the past date I go to, only the current emails show up, not older ones.  My conclusion is that I wouldn 't be able to recover them from a TM backup.
What had you been doing on the mac or device that causes emails to be deleted?  (I hope you don't have a family member or friend using the same icloud account - they may have deleted all emails by mistake.)

  • Can I change my .me alias to my main iCloud mail address?

I don't like my .me address which I've set up a year ago (with mobileme) and always use my .me alias.
I would like to alter my .me alias mail address to my main iCloud mail address and/or Apple ID.
When I try to change it in the Apple ID settings it doesn't work.
I was trying to set up a completely new iCloud account but because I already moved from mobileme, the function to set up a new account (therefore to get a new mail address) doesn't even appear.
What can I do? It's very tedious to manually switch the mail account, I am sending emails from, on my iOS devices manually all the time.

You change the name of your ID at https://appleid.apple.com.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40.

  • After short period of time my messages are disappearing from my Icloud mail account. Why does it happen? Can I restore them back?

I can't understand my Icloud mail behavior. All messages I sent are stored in sent box as usual whereas messages I receive are disappearing after short period of time (no more then 2 weeks). Why does it happen?Do I have any chance to restore them?

Unfotunately I'm not eligable for MAC support over the phone and have to take it in to the Genius Bar. Hmmmpf.

  • ICloud Mail Disappears!

I've been having this issue for quite a while now.
Twice I've spoke to Apple and twice they've managed to retrieve my lost mail.
Sometimes when I receive iCloud Mail, I will go to my Inbox, see the new message but before I can select it, it disappears!
Also, if I do open the message, it will disappear before I've read it.
They don't appear in my Deleted, Trash, Junk or any other mailbox on any of my iDevices or Mac, or even iCloud.com.
These emails are random and not from a specific person or site.
I really am thinking about going back to GMail as it's happening too frequently and I can't risk not receiving import email.
Has anyone else encountered the same problem as when I've spoke to Apple they find it strange and not something they're aware of?

This is happening to me, too. Mail on iOS 7 is being received properly, but not on Mavericks. Any ideas?

  • E-mail alias drop-down menu in Mail missing?

Ordinarily when I create a new e-mail in Mail, the new e-mail window has a drop-down menu from which I can pick an e-mail alias.  It's disappeared for some reason.  How do I restore it?
I don't know if it's connected, but at the moment, I seem to be unable to send a message from Mail.  I checked the connection, and it said it's fine, but the message won't send.  Was able to send using iCloud.com, though.

That only appears if you have multiple smtp servers. If you are not able to send emails, I would guess one of your smtp servers is not on line.  Check the Connection Doctor to see if there is a problem.
