ICloud mail as primary address?

Hi, I was thinking to switch from Gmail to iCloud email as my primary address. Any suggestion? What about privacy and spam filter?
Thanks

Ideally, you should purchase your own domain name and setup an e-mail address there. Then, if you want, you can forward that to your @icloud.com account.
You can, of course, use an @icloud.com account like any other e-mail address. But, like any other e-mail address, you don't own it. It is owned by "iCloud.com" - Apple. If Apple decided to change plans, or start charging, you have to do as you're told because Apple owns your e-mail address. The same would be true for any e-mail address that you don't own.
Just get your own domain and forward your e-mail to whomever has the best services for your needs.

  • ICloud mail address as primary

    Hello.
I noticed that new iCloud users could create Apple ID with iCloud mail address as primary. Just when they buy new Mac/iDevice and starting iCloud, they get @icloud.com address and @me.com address and thats it. They could use them as Apple ID login and need nothing else.
I use Apple services for a long time, so my Apple ID was created before iCloud introducing. And I have to use third-party email addres (google, yahoo, etc) as my Apple ID. Even since my iCloud was merged with my Apple ID and I'm able to login both with third-party email and iCloud email - I still have to use third-party email as primary and I cant change it to iCloud mail (system says that primary email cant be from Apple domain). Why? Why new users could do this and I can not? I dont need third-party email, I dont want to worry about its security (because its a key to all my iCloud services), I want to use just and only Apple service with Apple domain and iCloud address. Why I couldnt do this? Of course I can create new Apple ID (since new users dont have to use third-party address), but I have much apps purchaised from my current Apple ID.

  • Remove @me and use @icloud as primary address?

I have an @ me account that is Apple ID and Primary email address. I have recieved the @icloud email but cannot find a way to get rid of the @me. In my apple ID management I see no option of removing the @me. Is this possible? I don't want to use the @me anymore.

I was wondering why all of a sudden I could choose to send emails from @icloud.com as well as @me.com. That appeared out of nowhere in my iPhone's mail app. I read people are mentioning a mail they woudl have received about this thing happening..? I didn't see any.
Anyways, as Google is your friend... I found this popping up in my search wizzardry:
If you go to to the iCloud Mail prefs on the web interface:
    https://www.icloud.com/#mail/prefs-addresses
in the composing tab, you will see a setting called "Send From".
There you can choose which default address to use.
@icloud.com was the setting, (which I never visited before). I left it at that, as I assume it is the whole point.
below it is a setting "choose which address you would like to be able to send from"
There you can choose be able to send from both @me.com and @icloud.com (set as default), and you can choose to not send from the non-default address above it...
    Bottom line:
you can always get email on both @me.com and @icloud.com
    +
you can choose from which one to send as default, and if you want to be able to send from both...
It would be cool to have Apple send a auto reply to people using the one you don't use, so you have only in- and outgoing traffic trough one of them...
    Does this solve the issue..?

  • How to use different mail address  in icloud mail

    Hi,
I'm facing a dilemma : switch from Gmail to iCloud
I would like to gather my cloud account and i'm quite satisfied of apple icloud, but there still is a last barrier to me :
    multi-mail accounts !
I didn't find any solution in order to be able to send mails from iCloud with an alias as @gmail.com, @live.com or any other mails.
I totally can forward all my mails to my icloud address (im already doing it with Gmail) but i NEED to be able to answer my mails with the correct alias (for work as much as for private life) just as i currently do with google mail service linking my alias smtp's.
This is the last thing that makes the swap from Google to iCloud impossible for me, but maybe there is a solution ....
    Thanks,

You cannot send emails via iCloud from non-iCloud email addresses. There is no solution to that using the iCloud service.
There are some convoluted workarounds that involve setting up multiple email accounts with different outgoing mail servers, but they do not allow you to send non-iCloud Mail via iCloud.

  • HT201342 how can i change my icloud mail address. thanks

how can i change my icloud mail address.
    thanks

You can't change the name of your @me.com or @icloud.com address, but you can set up an alias with a different name that will still deliver email to your iCloud inbox.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • ICloud mail not delivering mail from specific address

I'm having a recurring issue with iCloud mail. Email alerts from my home alarm company are being intercepted on Apple's server side, and are not being delivered to me. I called Apple Support more than a week ago to report this problem, and the representative added the email address to a "white list." This fixed the problem.... for about a week. Now iCloud is up to its old tricks, killing these emails before they get to me. Sounds like an overzealous junk mail algorithm on Apple's server side is mis-identifying this email address as a spam.
And the email is NOT being classified as junk by my computer. It never reaches my computer--it's not in any junk or trash folder on my side.

I use the term "Desktop" to indicate my iMac and my Macbook - the email is actually in my Mailbox on my Macbook. I move it from my Inbox to a folder on icloud. Then it syncs and the email is back in my Inbox.
Sorry my use of the word  "desktop" comes from 25 years managing Windows desktop computers.......

  • ICloud mail is down again...mine allows mail to open, then when trying to address an email I get a beach ball and it stays until I quit mail.  Anyone experiencing this and what is apple doing about this?

I like many have been experiencing mail problems since I migrated to iCloud.  Was working fine for a bit, then I now either get crashes or a revolving beachball when I attempt to type an email address.  Have tried quitting and rebooting...you name it.  What is Apple saying or doing to fix the problem.  Been like this all weekend.

iCloud mail is down again...mine allows mail to open, then when trying to address an email I get a beach ball and it stays until I quit mail.
That doesn't necessarily mean the mail is down in iCloud.
You can always check iCloud system status here.
If you are using Safari to access iCloud.com, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.
Now go the menu bar again and click Safari / Reset Safari.
Select the top 5 boxes then click Reset.
Quit then relaunch Safari, go to iCloud.com
    Try Mail.

  • I cannot setup my icloud mail on device; it says my icloud email address is already used, but its mine

I already had a me.com email address from Apple.  They notified me that I have the same address at icloud.com.  However, when I go to see it up on my iPhone 4, it is rejected saying that my icloud.com address is already in use.  So how can I set up my phone and then my icloud web mail account.  It won't work unless I have icloud mail set up on my iPhone.   Thanks.   - Samuel

Hi Eric, Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately that didn't work in the past or present.  There is some back story and things are not straightforward because of increased complexity in the computing world, my lack of understanding and time to be aware for a year or two and a laptop that turned out to be a lemon: bought two macbook laptops in 2007/8 (one had to have a new harddrive months after it was bought) along with mac.com addresses for me and my children.  I didn't use mine but they used theirs. I continued to use hotmail which a patient person at apple - through some complex manouvering - was able to get it read in apple mail and calendar (but which may have turned out to create some of the problems).  Then there was mobile me and me.com, a failed attempt to sync computers, and a lack of awareness on my part that the computing world had become more complex and remembering passwords, usernames, accounts, etc. was important and keeping the mobile me addresses sorted.  Somewhere in this soup, something became tangled.  I don't know what.  My iphone and apple id is hotmail right now - not icloud or me.com. I just bought a new macbook pro for myself only and iphone because it was time but also hoping to untangle the mess.  Thought it would be easy to sync the two up through icloud!  Any thoughts?  Or am I condemned to find a new email name for icloud?

  • How do I get on line stores to recognize my iCloud mail address

when I use my icloud mail for on line shopping or when it's needed for something , there sites do not recognize my email and I can't finish the form .

Yet, I've changed my AppleID in iTunes from the original/initial account to the new and can download music, movies, etc. through iTunes.
So why is this popup window for Updates, which is from the iTunes store, still referencing the old email address?

  • How to change icloud email to be main apple id primary address?

I have an apple id with a gmail address and since icloud came out I made an icloud email with the @me.com suffix which I prefer to use as my main email primary address and get rid of the gmail address being associated in my apple id. So how do I make my @me.com email to be the primary address and drop the gmail email??? I tried to change it at appleid.apple.com and it tells me my @me.com address already is a apple id. Is there a way?

I have the same problem. There isn't anything serious, but I am a bit angry for it :-)

  • ICloud mail address setup issue

I have a @mac.com Apple ID with @me.com iCloud mail address. When setting up iCloud on my iPhone 4, the email address always defaults to ****@mac.com, when infact I need the email address to be @me.com. The @mac.com address is not actually an email, just the ID. The @me.com address was just setup after the release of iCloud, and is associated with the @mac.com ID. If I go to iCloud.com, I can sign in with either the @mac or the @me.com and both bring me to the same Apple ID @mac.com....man this is long winded..
So, how can I use iCloud with my iPhone if it defaults to a non-existant address and won't let me change it? Anyone else had this issue?

  • Can I change my .me alias to my main iCloud mail address?

I don't like my .me address which I've set up a year ago (with mobileme) and always use my .me alias.
I would like to alter my .me alias mail address to my main iCloud mail address and/or Apple ID.
When I try to change it in the Apple ID settings it doesn't work.
I was trying to set up a completely new iCloud account but because I already moved from mobileme, the function to set up a new account (therefore to get a new mail address) doesn't even appear.
What can I do? It's very tedious to manually switch the mail account, I am sending emails from, on my iOS devices manually all the time.

You change the name of your ID at https://appleid.apple.com.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HE40.

  • Icloud mail address question?

So I've tried to research the answer to this, but cannot get a straight answer.
So my Apple ID is [email protected] and My Icloud account is [email protected] (both are the same) but my icloud email address to send and receive emails at is [email protected] (this was the same as an old email used as my apple id at the time that icloud was created)
Is there anyway that I can change the YYY@icloud email address or if not remove that email address linked to my icloud account log in email [email protected] by creating a new icloud account with new @icloud email?
    I hope someone can help.
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi labaker_05,
iCloud accounts using email addresses ending in iCloud.com cannot be changed. See this article -
    Change your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621
You can change your Apple ID to any address, except an address used by another Apple ID. You can change the address of any Apple ID, except an Apple ID that ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com.
Your [email protected] email address is actually an Apple ID (and iCloud account) that is separate from  the Apple ID and iCloud account using [email protected]
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L
