ICloud & Mail,Contacts,& Calendars Preference Panels?

I have both an iCloud Preference Panel and a Preference Panel named Mail, Contacts, & Calendars.
Shouldn't the Mail, Contacts, & Calendars Preference Panel (which has checkboxes for Mail and Notes) have been replaced by the iCloud Preference Panel?
Could this duplication be why I can't get the Mail checkbox to stay checked in the iCloud Preference Panel?
Thanks...

They are different. Mail, Contacts and Calendars are for other accounts (Gmail, Hotmail...)

• Cannot Connect to Google Calendar in Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences

I recently obtained a new Mac and am playing with Mountain Lion for the first time. I'm trying to add my Google Apps (custom domain, not @gmail.com) account to the Mail, Contacts & Calendars control panel. I was able to add Mail, Messages, and Notes without any issues, but it's refusing to connect to Calendars & Reminders. When I attempting connecting, it gives me an error...
A secure connection couldn't be established.
Click “Continue” to continue creating the account. You can edit the account later in Calendar preferences if necessary.
So I click "Continue" to... well, continue. Eventually, I've given this error:
There was a problem setting up the account.
Calendar couldn't discover the account settings for the CalDAV server “google.com”.
Just out of curiousity, I went into the Calendar app to directly add my Google account. Doing so also gives me an error:
Server with Secure Communication Unavailable
Your calendar account isn't on a server that can receive your calendar securely.
If a server isn't secure, others may be able to view your calendar information. To continue searching for your account on servers that may not be secure, and then set up the account if it's found, click Continue.
So I go ahead and click Continue. After waiting some more, I finally get the error...
No CalDAV servers were found for "google.com".
This message appears on the Account Settings sheet where you can add a CalDAV account. If I manually type in the Server Address here (https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user//www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user), Calendar claims it still cannot connect to a secure connection. This time, clicking Continue does add the account. (I'm assuming through a non-secure conncetion.) If I try to edit the Account Settings, it takes me to the Mail, Contacts, and Calendars control panel where Calendars & Reminders for my Google account is now selected.
I can only assume this is a weird bug with Mountain Lion, but needless to say, this is far from the "it just works" mentality I've been use to.
This was not an issue with iCal on Snow Leopard, which is what I'm coming from.

I was having similar issues and thought I would put down what solved my problem.
In "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" I didn't choose "Gmail" I used "Add Oter Account…" as previously mentiond.
Then I chose "Add a CalDav account"
Under User Name: I entered my entire gmail address
Under Password: I entered a new "Application Password" key as generated by Googles two step verification process.
Under Server Address: I tried to use just "google.com" and "www.google.com" neither of these worked - only errors. So I used the address as listed on Google Calender when clicking on settings for my main calendar. There is a link that will give you your calendars private address. I shortened it to:
www.google.com/calendar/ical/your_gmail_address_goes_here
Then it worked immediately!

• Mountain Lion: can't open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane

Hi guys,
I downloaded Mountain Lion this morning and am loving it. But I'm having a problem that so far I can't find anything about here or elsewhere on the web: I cannot open the Mail, Contacts & Calendars preference pane in System Preferences. Instead I get 1 of 2 error messages. The first says simply that it couldn't load this preference pane (see attached pic), while the second says it cannot open it because this service is not available on Intel-based Macs.
The weirdest thing is that I WAS able to open this pane at least once right after downloading ML. I know that it looks the same as this setting in the Settings iOS app, and I even unchecked some of the options for my gmail and exchange email accounts (chose not to sync notes, calendars, etc. with all those accounts since I just use iCloud now).
I've tried restarting System Preferences, and my computer, multiple times... no luck. Any ideas?!?
THANKS!
P.S.- I've got a mid-2009 MBP that meets the specifications for ML.

Unfortunately my above message does NOT solve my original Mail, Contacts and Calendars problem, which continues. Here's a pic of the other message I routinely received (below)...
Is anyone else having this problem???

• Issue installing iCloud Mail/Contacts/Calendar

Hi,
I recently purchased a new Computer. I tried to set up iCloud Mail, Contacts & Calendar, using the iCloud Control Panel 3.1 for Windows. When I attempt to configure those Services in Outlook 2013, the iCloud Control Panel gives me an Error.
I know that it is working with the iCloud Control Panel 2.1, so a Download Link would solve my issue.
Error message: "Outlook does not have a default profile configured"
Equipment:
Microsoft Outlook 2013
Windows 8.1
iCloud Control Panel 3.1 for Windows
Thanks for any help in advance.

This explains how to view your Outlook profile(s), and if you have more than one profile, how to set one as your default: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/turn-on-or-off-profile-prompt-HA1 01821056.aspx.
At any rate, 2.1.3 and 3.1 are the only iCloud control panels available from Apple at this point.

• You can't open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac.

I updated my Mac to Mavericks and after that, I can't open the Mail, Contacts and Calendar preferences.
Every time I try, I get the following message:
"You can’t open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac."
I tried this workaround from the Mountain Lion thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21303574#21303574) but it didn't worked.
Further I deleted all files in the Library Preferences folder, but it didn't helped also.
Can anyone help me please?

Hi Michael,
I had the same problem. And I found a fix.
I noticed that on a different system running Mavericks without any problems, the preference pane isn't called 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' anymore, it's now called 'Internet accounts'. The fact that it's still called by the old name on your system, means it somehow wasn't replaced while updating to Mavericks.
So the cure is pretty easy:
On a different Mavericks system, go to /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ and copy the file InternetAccounts.prefPane. Take it to the system you're trying to fix, and paste the prefPane file in the same directory. Reboot, and it should all work fine. At least it did in my case.
Cheers
Niels

• In system preferences iCloud, mail contacts calendar crash

In system preferences icloud and mail, contacts, calendars crash, so I can't alter them.
Mail seems to freeze and only way to restart is force quit and then it is fine till I think it updates with iCloud again and then won't shut down again unless force quit.

Hi lynne168,
If System Preferences or Mail are quitting unexpectedly, there are a few ways to isolate and resolve the issue.
First, I'd recommend booting your computer into safe mode:
Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
If the applications are working normally in safe mode, this usually means OS X is fine, and the issue is caused by conflicting software in your user account.
Next, see if your computer behaves normally in a new user accoun:
OS X Mountain Lion: Create a new user account
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468
If the issue persists in safe mode and a new user, I would recommend reinstalling OS X:
OS X Mountain Lion: Reinstall OS X
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10763
Best Regards,
Jeremy

• ICloud Mail, Contacts, Calendar & Tasks setup error

I am trying to install iCloud on my PC (Windows 7 64 bit) and the installation seems to complete fine but after I restart and login and try to setup Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Tasks I get an error pop up on the screen saying the iCloud Control Panel Installation did not set up properly and that I need to repair it. When I click on reports it shows this error:
The iCloud Control Panel did not install properly. To repair it, you need to go to Programs and Features, select iCloud from the program list and click Change. When prompted, click on Repair. Open Programs and Features…
Error: 0x80004005: DataProviderRegistered
Error: 0x80004005: ZebraMapiCopySession::CanCreateZebraStore: CreateMessageService failed
Can someone please help me set this up successfully as I have been trying everything for a whole day now including repairing Outlook. There is no evidence that iCloud has been setup in Outlook before but it has previously so I know it can work together (I removed it some time ago when PhotoStream stopped updating).
Any help would be fantastic, thank you!

This drove me nuts for a week. I tried everything, uninstalling and reinstalling both Outlook and iCloud Control Panel multiple times. But today I finally fixed it and everything is syncing perfectly again! You need to shut down your PC and restart in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING (so repeatedly hit F8 when it is booting up and select that option). Once the PC has started in this mode, open up the iCloud control panel, select the Mail, Contacts Calendars and Tasks check box, click Apply, and hopefully it should work (as it did for me)! Good luck!

• "A secure connection couldn't be established" from Mail, Contacts & Calendars

While trying to sync with my Google Calendar account via the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" preference pain, I am receiving the error message "A secure connection couldn't be established." The dialog windows goes on to offer that it can continue to try creating the account anyways. I instruct it to do so, however after processing for a while, this too fails. The final error message is "There was a problem setting up the account. iCal couldn't discover the account settings for the CalDAV server "google.com". My Google mail account syncs without problem.
I expect "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" to be compatible with Google Calendar. Am I missing something?

I played with this some more today and have worked around it for now. I launched iCal and went to add a new account there. I first tried leaving the account type as automatic and entered my Gmail account and password. That attempt failed. I next tried specifying an account type of Google, and that also failed. I finally gave in and set it explictly to CalDAV. I entered the settings for CalDAV as described by Google at http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=99358#ical and it connected fine and works. Now, what makes this interesting is that both iCal and "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" view the account I added this way as a Google/Gmail account, not as a manually added CalDAV account to 'some server.'

• Error enabling "Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks with Outlook" in iCloud 3.0 Control Panel

Unable to enable option “Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks with Outlook” under iCloud 3.0 Control Panel.
Get following error when clicking checkbox to enable it under iCloud 3.0 Control Panel.
"Setup can't continue because Outlook isn't configured to have a default profile. Check your Outlook settings and try again."
Have tried the following:
Uninstalled / reinstalled iCloud 3.0 control panel
Removed all mail accounts from Outlook 2013 except MS account
Confirmed Outlook was chosen for “Always uses this profile” under Control Panel – Mail (MicroSoft Outlook 2013) – show profiles
Still get the same error when trying to enable the option under iCloud 3.0 Control Panel
PC is running Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
Outlook 2013 was just installed on the PC as part of new Office 2013 installation

Two more things:
First, sorry for the bad spelling, grammar, and all of that. English isn't my first language and I'm so frustrated at this point I'm not paying any attention to it. Sorry!
Second, after trying to repair again the icloud 3.0 through the Control Panel of Windows, guess what? It made Offce to crash again! Now I will have to install it again.
=(

• Mail, Contacts, Calendar not available on iCloud Control Panel on my Win 7 PC for Outlook sync

I have loaded iCloud Control Panel 4.0 on my PC (Win 7 64)
The iCloud Drive, photos & Bookmarks is available to be switched on/off but Mail, Contacts, Calendar etc not available. Instead just a message on top that says you can access Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Reminders at iCloud.com.
How do I setup iCloud so that the Calendar & Contacts on my OUTLOOK 2010 are synced with my iPhone &iPad?

Hey RuiEVG,
Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines troubleshooting information for using iCloud contacts on a Windows PC. It may be that your version of Outlook is not supported:
Get help using iCloud Contacts

Check the system requirements
Make sure that your PC meets the iCloud system requirements.

• Sys Pref panel "Mail Contacts Calendar" freezes

Sys Pref panel "Mail Contacts Calendar" completely freezes just by trying to open it. And I've discovered that If I remove my gmail account (from the mail.app) It works again. I've made 2 clean installs of Mountain lion and the problem stays.
If it helps I have set up icloud, twitter, facebook, gmail and my gmail adress is the same that I use for icloud as apple id.
Has anybody any idea.
Thanks.

This was happening to me too. I deleted the MobileMeAccount.plist file in my user's Library/Preferences folder and the Preferences window now loads and responds to input properly.

• Ios 5.0 crash on preferences mail, contacts, calendar

I hava a Iphone4 and have upgraded to IOS 5.0. Since then when selecting prefereces>Mail,Contacts, Calendars the Preferences Screen crashes. Result: I cant change email preferences anymore... any Ideas what to do?

this worked for me: (thanks to @fortbailey!)
(1) If your iPad/phone is syncing contacts with iCloud, turn it off. In Settings on your iPad/phone, Mail,Contacts,Calendars, Accounts, iCloud, turn off Contacts.
(2) sync your iPad/phone to iTunes.
(3) now select the ‘Info’ tab in iTunes for your iPad/iPhone. Ensure that ‘Sync Address Book Contacts’ is ticked. (You can revert to syncing with iCloud later, after this process is complete.)
(4) scroll to the very bottom section of the Info tab. Where it says ‘Replace information on this iPad/iPhone’, select ‘Contacts’.
(5) Sync again.
Now check Calendars on iPad/iPhone, this process ‘fixes’ the information of birth dates and they should now appear correctly.

• MacBookAir: system preferences internet & wireless does not show mail, contacts & calendars

I'm trying to figure out how to NOT store my mail on the iCloud server. I was directed to first go to ""system preferences," then "internet and wireless," and then "mail, contacts, calendars," except I don't have a folder for "mail, contacts, and calendars." Why wouldn't it show up?
I'm on Macbook Air, OS 10.6.8

Thanks, it was linked in iPhoto. After removing it from iPhoto I still got the same message when trying to delete the account from Mail. After rebooting, I was able to remove the account from Mail.

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here, so I've asked the hosts to remove your email address, postal addresses and phone numbers from your post.
I'm not entirely sure what you are saying, but if those apps are crashing then have you tried toggling them 'off' and 'on' via Settings > iCloud ? And if that doesn't fix it then try closing them via the iPad's taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
You could also try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If it's a different problem ... ?
