ICloud Mail has stopped working

Had to do a PRAM reset on my iMac today because of slow restarting from sleep etc. Now getting error message in Mail that it's "unable to open iCloud" because "Mail was unable to open this mailbox on the server “p02-imap.mail.me.com”.  The server returned the error: Server hosting this mailbox is not available."
Nothing to say whether this is permanent or temporary, and I don't know whether the issue might be related to the PRAM reset. The message is only against the Sent and Trash boxes. The account can still send, and forward mail.
Any idea whether this will resolve itself, or what I can do to get rid of the warning triangle against Sent and Trash for iCloud mail?
Thanks.
Tom

  • ICloud Mail has stopped working (iPhone, website, and desktop)

Starting from yesterday, 1 Dec 2011, my iCloud mail no longer works. At first I thought it was a new update to the desktop SMTP and IMAP settings to my software (I use Postbox 3.0, which is based on Thunderbird), but upon further investigation, I see that mail no longer works on the iPhone or on the iCloud.com website. Mail just doesn't work.
I suspect this has something to do with the fact that I have a legacy account ending with @mac.com. I've posted before about my inability to drop the @mac.com from my Apple ID, but that's another story.
It's incredibly frustrating not to have access to this email account. The Calendar and Contacts are still active and accessible, but email is kaput. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Ok, after chatting with an Apple support rep (as in using a chat room and typing back and forth like a bunch of teenage girls) I was able to fix the mail issue.
In the end, all we did was reset the password. Can you believe that?!
Try to change your password first on your own terms, and if that doesn't work, look for the link for a hard reset, perhaps under "Forgot My Password". Unfortunatley, I don't have the links handy. I'm really frustrated and I just wanna go home (after 3 hours).
Let me know if this is helpful for you.

Since installing Mavericks on my iMac my outgoing talktalk mail has stopped working. Incoming talktalk mail works fine as does iCloud outgoing and incoming. I have checked settings and these all appear ok. My MacbookAir without Mavericks continues to work fine with the same talktalk router etc used with the iMac.
Has anybody else had this ?

Someone at work had the same issue when they upgraded to 10.4.7 and after trying for a while when they went back to OS10.4.6 the mail started working again. I dont want to go back to OS 10.4.6

    Hi Adnan,
The Mac OS X 10.4.7 Update introduced connection issues as a result of (according to the documentation) "Mail now supports connecting to mail servers through a SOCKS proxy". If that's the problem, you must go to System Preferences > Network and disable the SOCKS Proxy in the network configuration used to connect to the Internet, if it's enabled.

  • E mail has stopped working, how do I get e mail again

My e mail has stopped working, how do I get it working again

Well, the most obvious possibility is that the email server is down. Or that they changed the server address. You should check with your ISP. After that review the email settings. Have you upgraded the phone recently?
Does this occur on both cellular data and WiFi? On WiFi, does it work on your home network (assuming you have one)? What about other WiFi networks?

  • HT204053 I can log onto my iCloud account, however my mail has stopped working. can anyone help

Today my email stopped working on my ipad, so i tried loggin into my icloud account to view my emails.
I can login into the icloud however my email has stopped working and all have vanished !!!
    Can anyone help

Same problem. I can see the itunes store so not a problem with windows firewall. The account is active on my iphone so i know i am not locked out. I can connect the PC to my iphone so i know itunes is working ok. It is just logging into itunes on this pc which doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is that the email address I use for my apple id has been offline for a while and is working again now, I'm wondering whether this has been the case for others who are having this issue?

  • HELP Mail has stopped working

On my G3 Tower, my mail account has stopped working. It says it can't communicate with the host. But, I haven't changed anything about my wireless network and my browsers are working just fine. I also have a G4 laptop and all is fine with the mail function. I've tried taking the .mail file out of the preferences file and copying it to my desktop. It gives the same error. Any ideas how to fix this??
    Thanks

  • IPad 1 iCloud backup has stopped working

I have an iPhone 4S and an iPad 1 both of which backup to iCloud. All has been working well for a while now. A few days ago (30th November in fact) the iPad automatci backup failed to complete (There was a problem completing the backup. Please try again later.). The iPhone 4S is still backing up fine. I tried a mahnual backup on the iPad - same result. Then I tried truning off iCloud backup on the iPad, deleting the backup in Icloud, re-enabling it on the ipad and doing a manual backup (i.e. a new full backup). Same error; backup runs for several minutes (progress bar is over 75% complete) and then stops with this message.
This is clearly not a connectivity issue (my WiFi and Intetrnet conneciton are fine and I can backup my iPhone 4S with no problem) but something related to iCloud and/or the device.
Any suggestions for resolving this? For now I am having to backup to my PC but I would really like to get iCloud backup working again on my iPad.
    Chris

    Chris...
Try "resetting" a device when you have problems with a backup.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
And even though you don't think it's a connectivity issue, a connection can still time out with Wi-Fi during a backup.
This may also help. Tap Settings > General > Network > Reset Network Settings

  • Outgoing mail has stopped working on iMac.

My outgoing mail has suddenly stopped working on my iMac. It works on my laptop and phone. Says "Cannot send message using server smpt.comcast.net
The server response was: Authentication required.
I hadn't changed anything in preferences, so I hesitate to do so now.
    Help please!!

Well you still have not stated what you did.
I would recommend re-inputting all of your account preferences as I advised in your other post in this thread:

  • ICal and Mail has Stopped Working

I updated to Mountain Lion a couple of days ago and now several things have stopped working:
    1) iTunes lost all my music - managed to fix that one eventually.
    2) iCal has lost all my reminders - this is a pain and I want them back.
    3) Mail no longer works - I am not receiving or sending any emails from any of my 6 email accounts - they all worked perfectly before the upgrade.
Is there a generic fix, or do I need to start crying?

In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Calendars
The calendar data is in the folder that opens.

  • Icloud mail suddenly stopped working

I can no longer get any emails from icloud - everythime I try to update, I get a 'cannot get mail, connection to the server failed' message on both my iPhone & iPad. Anyone any ideas as to why?

i too also have this problem. i never had problems with it until today. then all of a sudden icloud email doesn't work on any of my ios devices. 2 iphones and an ipad.
i can send from the devices just fine and get the email on my gmail and any other account i send it to except to itself. so it appears only incoming mail is having a problem. i have tried resetting all settings, reset network settings, normal shut off, hard reset, changed my password to my appleID. nothing seemed to have worked. the only thing i haven't tried is to wipe the device to factory. i just don't think that would help considering the problem is happening on all my devices and seems to have occurred at the same time.
email works fine when logging in through icloud.com so it doesn't appear to be an account issue. also checked the cloud system status website and all it says is "all services are online".
any help out there? gmail and exchange have no issues.

  • Mail has stopped working properly

Ever since the upgrade, my Mail will not work properly. It doesn't always show messages, but when it does it doesn't always show recent ones. I've just had to send a very important email but it is not showing in Sent Mail or Drafts, and I have no idea whether it has gone or not. And this email simply has to go.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.
