ICloud mail showing as unread on iPad

This is just odd.
I am using a single iCloud mail account (using the default IMAP) protocols.
That mail account is accessed by two Macs, an iPhone and an iPad.
Most of my mail is read pretty quickly, usually on the Mac.
I understand that the unread badge on iOS mail might not reflect the fact that mail has been read. When I open the mail app, it should sync.
But when I go to the iPad and open Mail - there are usually 5 or 6 mails, which despite being read on the Mac - are showing-up with a blue bullet, and behaving as unread.
If I look at Mail in the iCloud web interface, those same mails are correctly showing as read.
So right at this moment....
My Mac tells me there is one unread message (in Junk) - this is correct
My iPhone says there are two unread messages. One recent (same as Mac) plus one from yesterday about 30 emails down.
My iPad tells me there are four unread messages. One recent (same as Mac) plus a cluster of three from earlier today.
If I pull-to-refresh on either iDevice no change is made to the read status.
If I delete the iCloud account and rejoin - then the read status matches.
Why isn't iOS mail syncing read status for some messages?

I am replying to my own post just to add some more information.
In summary the iPad shows mails that have been read on other devices as unread.
Even with Mail app running.
The problem does not happen on an old iPod Touch running iOS6. That device stays perfectly in sync with iCloud mail - and the unread status is always the same.
The problem is only visible on the iPad Air and the Phone 5 - both iOS 7.0.4
There are no connection issues.
Most of my mail is addressed to the old .mac address. Can't see this as relevant.

iPad only show last 50,100,200 emails depending upon settings. I had this some time ago when the 17 (for example) emails were "dropped" off the list of emails on the iPad. At the botton of the list of emails there should be a "show more" type option, press this to loand the previous batch of emails to see if the unread emails are in there.
Also watch out for threading emails. It could be you need to open a thread to see the email. Also an option you can disable (I did!)

Mail showing one unread message when all messages are marked as read

Wondering if anyone else was having any weird issues with their iCloud and unread count in the Mail app on their mac running lion? I can't seem to get rid of a phantom unread message. My iCloud account is fairly new so I don't have that many messages to go through so I know there is not an unread message any where. Any help would be appreciated

I have had the same issue with my Microsoft exchange email after upgrading to Lion. It's a bit annoying. My iPad, Android Phone, and viewing it using a browser all show 0 unread, but Mail shows 3 unread. I have tried deleting the account, rebuilding, and pawing through settings looking for something I missed. Nothing. I actually had the same problem with my MobileMe email with Snow Leopard but I eventually permanently removed the account as other problems arose and just used it in my browser.

ICloud mail not syncing changes on iPad

My iCloud @me.com emails are not syncing on iPad.
If I move/read/delete an email on iCloud.com or on my iPhone/Mac it syncs across each device. However on the iPad the deleted/moved messages still appear in my inbox and display as unread etc. To clarify I am not talking about the badge icon as I know this doesn't update automatically, I am referring to the emails themselves. I have tried disabling iCloud mail and restarting my iPad but when I re-enable iCloud mail the deleted/moved messages still appear in my inbox. Any ideas?

Unfortunately that's how iCloud is designed
Mail will update Mac to Mac and iPhone,iPad,Ipod to Mac
But it will not update Mac to iPhone, iPad, and iPod

So you can read a mail on you Mac and it will update the status to another Mac but will not update the status on a iPhone,iPad or iPod
but if you read a mail on your iphone,iPad od iPod it will update the status on your mac
Silly but there it is 1000's of us have been complaining about it for years but Apple will not change it

I routinely delete sent mail. Last week my iPhone 5s shows 429 unread emails in my sent folder, but there aren't any. How can I fix this problem?

Read mail showing as unread on itouch.

Mail on itouch shows as unread even though I have read it on laptop. There are over 5,000 e-mails all showing as unread. Too many to delete on itouch. How can I set it so that they show as read as they do on laptop/mail client?

It depends upon the type of account (IMAP/Exchange or POP3). If it in IMAP/Exchange account they will be synchronized among devices. I you have a POP3 account they are not synchronized and there is nothing yu can do except use webmail.

I understand the marketing behind encourage synchronizing accounts upon initial attempt to access the iCloud site from an iOS device. However, the issue I am having is when I want to use my SO's iPad "ruhl quick lyke" to access my e-mail and instead of opening iCloud.com and getting asked for my e-mail, I am asked to register iCloud on my device. All I want is a login screen. I do not want to sync my mail to his device, and I'm guessing he must not want to sync his apple ID as he has yet to do it. So my question is 1) is there a way for me to bypass the iPad_welcome site and login without syncing, and 2) if he choses to sync if I will be able to access my icloud from his device. Sent mail showing as unread

Recently, my sent mail is showing up in my Sent folder as unread. I've tried rebuilding my Sent mailbox but that hasn't worked. Other than that, Mail is working fine. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix this problem?
I'm looking for solutions, not "I have the same problem! Man, Apple really needs to fix this!" I'm not looking to commiserate with anyone.

In the implementation of Mail 3.x, the Attachments folder in this location is normal, although not seen in Mail 2.x -- it is likely not involved in your issue.
Now that we have identified that you are using an IMAP style account, please check Mail Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors and report the selections made regarding Sent messages?
Do you use this MobileMe account on more than one computer or device, btw.

Deleted Account's mail shows as unread in dock icon

*Short version...* I deleted an account and now my dock icon reads 403 unread messages. Problem is I can't find them to get rid of them.
*Long version...* Got my old computer from last job before they closed the doors permanently. I simply disabled the work email account since then and all the old emails (that were not put into "On My Mac" folders for reference") eventually got deleted since I had the preferences set to delete after a month.
Now I decide to delete the account entirely. I do so, and now the dock icon reads 403 unread messages. I play with the "Dock unread count" preference in Mail. The # disappears when it is set to "None" or "Inbox Only". So, the offending mail must be in some hidden mailbox.
So, in playing around, I recreated the deleted account using as much of the old data I can remember. The original server for the mail is long gone, so no new mail is being checked. It didn't show up the old messages, but when I disable the recreated account, the 403 unread message counter goes away (like it has been the last few months). When I enable it, the # reappears. So, it looks like I partially got control of the old account, but the messages are still hidden somewhere.
Using Mail 3.6 on OS 10.5.7. Any advice?? How can I reset the counter or find the mail?

thanks Golden, that's what I found I needed to do. None of the sidebar indicators (that there were unread messages in that particular folder) were working. But if you opened a subfolder and looked thru, you could find some unread. The funny thing was that these messages appeared only when I enabled or deleted that old account, and they were all over the place (Sent, Deleted, junk, and On-My-Mac folders) and in all of my other accounts (I have 5 others). But all fixed now. thanks.

Hello, I know that Mail in Mavericks has a lot of problems, but i still haven't read about this one. I returned home and saw 3 unread emails, when opened, i've noticed that i've already read them earlier today using Gmail on my android phone. So i opened Gmail webmail and they were marked there as read as well. Even after checking for new mail manually, they were unread in my Mail.app. I had to open these emails to mark them as read.
Have anyone of you experienced the same behavior?

Found my solution:
Try this... "you could create a smart mailbox to filter unread emails, go to mail menu, mailbox>create smart mailbox, and choose the unread email rule. then look in the smart mailbox to see which emails show up."

ICloud Mail shows me someone else's inbox...???

just activated iCloud and Mail is showing me somebody else's inbox...my notes are mine and when i go to send a message, it shows that the message is from me...everything that is coming in is this other person's mail on my Mac...my iPhone is fine...it shows my me.com inbox and not this other persons...what do I need to do to remedy this?

IOS 7.1 update - Icloud Mail appears broken on iPad Air

Since installing the iOS7.1 update I have been unable to get icloud mail to work on my iPad Air.
Its not an iCloud problem (i don't think) because on my two macs i can access my icloud via both the web browser and email apps. I can send and receive emails on all these variants.
However, all i see on the iPad is the message "cannot get Mail. connection to server failed"
I tried all of Apples troubleshooting suggestions, and nothing worked. I have deleted the icloud account and re-installed it (twice) and all that happens now is all the previous emails have vanished from my iPad, and whenever i try to open Icloud email i get asked for my password and my Inbox remains blank....and periodically i get asked for the pssword again, and again, and again....
Weirdly, i can still send emails without problems, and a copy remains in the outbox too.
What is really p!$$!ng me off is this iPad has worked perfectly since i bought it, whilst my wifes identical device has been plagued with crashing problems since we bought them a day after launch.
Now i cannot access my email, and i'm no longer eligible for tech support...even though the ipad is just over 4 months old and this is a problem that appears to have been created by Apple.
Any suggestions?

add a new mail account, but instead of picking the built-in iCloud option, i had to choose other and then enter the IMAP details manually.
Once that was entered, i went into the iCloud settings and switched Mail off. Then back in the email settings i renamed the account description to iCloud.
thats three hours of time i could have done without wasting!
