ICloud manual backup ios 8

How do you manually backup iPhone to iCloud in iOS8?  I see instructions on how to do it for older iOS on the apple support site.
I have pasted the old iOS instructions below.

I was wondering the same thing & finally found the answer. If you Go to Settings > iCloud, there is now an entry on the list of clickable items called 'Backup.' It's below the toggles for what you can include in backups. The default is 'on.' If you click on the Backup bar, you'll see the most recent backup info & the option to 'Backup Now,.' It looks the same as before, it's just in a different location - instead of having the Manage Storage & Backup Now in the same place.

  • Icloud manual backup

Hello. I am on ios 8.1.3 and I can not figure out how to do a manual backup. I go to settings --> icloud--> Storage--> Manage Storage. I can not find the "Backup Now" button anywhere. Did they get rid of this?? It says my last backup was yesterday but I wanted to do one today because I plan on going to get the iphone 6 today so I wanted a completely up to date backup for when I restore from it on the new phone. Help please? Thanks!

It should be near the bottom of the list in Settings > iCloud (just above Find My iPhone and Keychain).

  • No iCloud auto backup since iOS 6 update

I have three iPhone 5's, an iPad 2, & two iPod Touches.  None of the iPhones perform an auto backup when plugged in. Two are setup for iCloud backups & one is setup for iTunes backup.  Even after a Genius appointment, still no auto backup.  With the iCloud backups, I can backup manually successfully, so it's not an issue with corrupt data.  With the iTunes backup, the "sync now" button is missing, so I can't even do manual backups.
After updating an iPod Touch that was auto backing up successfully on iOS 5.1.1, it's now not backing up automatically with iOS 6.  Again, I can backup manually just fine.
When is Apple going to fix this issue?  It works in iOS 5.x, but is broke w/ iOS 6.  I see lots of posts about not being able to sync/backup, but I can backup manually.  I wish I could revert my iPod back to 5.1.1 & downgrade my iPhones.
I've tried deleting my iCloud backups, turning off iCloud backups, & re-enabling the iCloud auto backup, but the only successful backup are the ones I perform manually.  Any other suggestions?  Anyone else seeing this issue?

No, I'm on Time Warner Cable.
This issue is strictly an iOS 6 issue and not related to your ISP.  I have the same issue with all of my iOS 6 devices that are setup to auto sync/backup to iTunes instead of iCloud which only uses your wi-fi network and not your ISP's connection to the Internet.  The backup to iTunes, however, is even more messed up than the backup to iCloud.  With iCloud, it at least has the button  for backing up now where as the iTunes Wi-Fi backup doesn't have the button and appears to not be enabled.
I had a Genius appointment and the (not) Genius tried to tell me that I hadn't even set it up right.  I walked him though the setup with my Mac/iTunes and he gave me his approval that I'd done it correctly.  Still no backup from the device.  So he claimed it was iTunes so we removed it and re-installed it with no success.  Then he tried to tell me it was an issue with my Mac and that I needed to completely re-install OS X.  I told him he was an idiot and demonstrated how my iOS 5.1.1. devices backup perfectly and automatically via iTunes and couldn't be an issue with my Mac, OS X 10.7.4, iTunes, or my iPod Touches (3rd & 4th generations) and iPad 2, so the issue HAS to be with iOS 6.
I saw an article saying that Apple is planning an iOS 6.0.1 release in a few weeks, and iOS 6.1 after the holidays.  There was no mention of iCloud/iTunes backups being included.

  • How do I manually backup to both my pc & icloud via itunes?

When I plug my phone in and open itunes, there's a backup section with both icloud and my computer listed.
I want to be able to make a manual backup in both places (you can't be too careful! :-).
I can freely checked either my computer or icloud, and then click the sync button, but I must be missing something else.
What are the relevant Settings that must be selected on the phone?
Does the phone have to be on/active?
What do I need to do in itunes to back up first to one place and then to the other place?
I'm not getting prompted to enter my icloud login/pw--is that a clue to what's not working...

Well, t'uh! (insert apple rant here)
Maybe someone will come by later and explain that bit to us. At least for now, I can mostly do what I want, although it's rather awkward and kludgy.
Thanks for the info, both of you, I appreciate it.
(still grumbling about the apple universe under my breath ;-)

The phone will automatically re-appear when it connects to the Internet. However, don't get your hopes up, as thieves know this & will make sure your phone never re-connects so you can locate it.

  • Does manual backup to icloud occur over 3G cellular connection?

Does manual backup to icloud occur over 3G cellular connection?

Oh, duh...my bad.  It says that photostream syncs when it gets back to your wifi.  So it does not use 3G to upload new pictures.  Thx for the direction to the answer?
I am surprised that this info isn't more prominent in the ICloud support documents...
    Thx again,

  • How to manually backup iPad to iTunes now that iCloud is working?i

Now that iCloud is backing up my iPad finally, I would still like to do a manual backup to iTunes. Can someone provied the details of how to do this correctly? I assume I still have to tether it to my iMac. I'm confused because It looks like it is still backing up to iTunes as it did before but I seems some people using right click on iTunes Icon and so on, so need to get the correct procedure. Thanks

You cannot backup to iCloud and to the computer at the same time if that is what you are asking - in other words if you are looking for a way to always have "backup to iCloud" enabled and "Backup to this computer" enabled - both at the same time - you can't do it.
There is no way to set it up so the whenever you backup - you backup to iCloud and the computer at the same time - simultaneously that is. Does that answer your question?
I thought the OP was asking how to switch between the cloud and the computer for backups but maybe I am wrong.

  • If I backup to icloud can I still manually backup too?

say I just want icloud to backup sms, contacts, bookmarks.
but my apps will probs go over the 5gb so I want to manually backup those?
    how does that work?

your apps do not count against the 5GB. Neither does Photostream or your purchased books, music etc.
What counts against the 5GB is the devices cameraroll , the OS backup  and the documents from icloud-enabled apps. For example I use 300MB out of the 5GB, and that's from a 8GB iPod with hundreds of pictures and 2GB worth of apps  on it.
You can backup the iOS5 device to icloud and still make every now and then a backup to your local machine :
Connect the iDevice to iTunes, locate the iDevice in iTunes' sidebar - now use the right mousebutton , click the Device's name and then pops up "back up". This creates a local backup, regardless if you have set all to backup to iCloud. This way you are double backed up .

  • Making an iPhone 4S manual backup to a MacBook Pro does not work in iTunes?

    Hello.
I am helping a client's iPhone 4S (iOS 5) to back up his data to his 13.3" MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.8.2 with updates including the latest iTunes v11 without iCloud). We told iTunes not to automatically synchronize when connected. We did tell it to manual back ups from iPhone to MacBook Pro, but we only saw it back up iPhone's apps. Calendar, Contacts, etc. do not get updated on MacBook Pro's software. We don't want to synchronize. We just want to overwrite iPhone's data to the computer. Did we miss something or is there a bug in this manual backup? My client only updates his data on his iPhone and not the computer.
    Thank you in advance.

    randers4 wrote:
Backing up will not update the calendar, contacts, etc. on his MacBook Pro; only syncing does that (and it's bi-directional).  Backing up only creates a device backup that can later be used to restore from if necessary.  He can confirm that the backup was successfully created by going to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and checking the Backups list.
Or am I misunderstanding your question?
We do see iTunes' device and ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ showing the backups. We thought manual backups did COMPLETE backups including calendar, contacts, etc. That's disappointing. The problem is synchronizing is that it likes to make duplicates which is quite annoying. We would prefer iTunes overwrite iPhone 4S' datas to computer. He nevers updates/add data on the computer.

  • Manual Backup vs Sync Backup

    Hi,
Just a little question, I've had to do a manual backup recently and it took quite a very long time to complete. I've noticed that the backup that occurs before syncing the iPhone (4S ios 8.1 in my case) with Itunes (last version) doesn't take that long, and I would like to know why.
    - Does it just update the last 'sync' backup with new files ?
    - Is it as reliable as a manual backup ?
    - does it takes the same size in my computer ?
    Thanks,
    Matt.
    iPhone 4S, iOS 8.1.2

Look under Edit > Preferences > Devices. There is normally only one backup for each device. If/when you restore a backup to a device the current version of it is used for the restore, the backup set is archived with the date of the restore, and a new rolling backup for that device is created. Whether you refresh the backup manually or via the first sync of the day, the overall size of the backup won't vary much unless you have added lots of new data to the device that would be included. Note that if your device normally backs up to iCloud then it is only backed up to your computer if you instigate a backup manually.

  • Manual backup problem to Mac with iPhone 5

    Hello,
I've been trying to do a manual backup of my iPhone 5 to my Mac, but I keep getting an error message. I had even erased the phone and started over (to clear memory as well) but even that didn't help. I have the latest iOS installed (6.1.4). Can anyone help with this? It backs up to iCloud fine, but not to iTunes (also the latest version, 11.0.5). Thanks!
    Paul

  • Manual backup does not backup/restore photos or music.

According to HT4946, performing a manual backup of an iOS device (in this case, an iPhone 4S) to a computer should backup basically all settings, all apps, and all user data, including photos and such. This has not been my experience. Background: I work for a mid-size company and support executives that use iPhones. When their devices break, we need to backup their device and then restore the backup to a new device. Even though these are "work phones", they also contain the users' personal photos, music, etc.
Today I went through this process for one of our employees. The power button on his iPhone 4S (64GB running iOS 7.1.2) had broken, so we were going to move him to a new device. I backed up the entire phone to my Mac (Mavericks with iTunes 12.0.1.26) and used the encryption option to make sure passwords were also moved to the new device. The backup completed successfully, so then I plugged in the replacement device (also a 64GB iPhone 4S running 7.1.2) to perform the restore. After the restore finished, all of the apps were there, email worked, contacts were restored, etc., but none of the photos or music had been restored to the device. None. The broken iPhone had about 20GB free, so about ~40 GB of data on it. The backup in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup is only <11 GB in size.
Apple's own support documents say that photos are backed up during this process:
    What iTunes backs up
Photos (photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken) and Saved Photos (in devices without a camera).
So, why are the photos not being backed up and/or restored during this process, when they clearly should be?

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.  Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • When I try to manually backup my ipad2, I receive an error message stating "There was a problem completing the backup.  Please try again later" ... and this happens each time I try to back up.  Grateful for suggestions ...

When I try to manually backup my ipad2, I receive an error message stating "There was a problem completing the backup.  Please try again later" ... and this happens each time I try to back up.  Grateful for suggestions ...

Seems to be a common enough problem. I've deleted the partial failed backup from iCloud, restoring all 5Gb of storage. Then started a manual backup. After about 20 minutes I get the same error message. I have repeated this several times. According to my iTunes on my laptop I managed one backup to iCloud from there but it is pointless if u can neither backup to or restore from iCloud via my iPhone 4. I had hoped ios 5.0.1 would solve this glitch but ....
So much for "it just works".
I have yet to see any suggested fix that works for me. Any other suggestions?

  • ICloud auto backup working for anyone ?

I charged my iPad last night with wifi on and locked via wall plug ,  My iPad still said last backup was yesterday morning...... anyone else finding this is the case for them?

According to this article >  iOS: How to back up
iCloud automatically backs up the most important data on your iOS 5 device. After you have enabled Backup on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in Settings > iCloud > Backup & Storage, it will run on a daily basis as long as your device is:
Connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi
    Connected to a power source
    Screen locked
You can also back up manually whenever your device is connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi by choosing Back Up Now from Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
Try resetting your iPad then wait and see if it does a backup.
Hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
