ICloud Match and ?false? duplicates

I've just finished a week-long session getting my iTunes library into Match. I've got a small number of tracks that are marked as iCloud duplicates which do not have any siblings (i.e., there are no other copies in my library... iTunes "show duplicate items" doesn't list these particular tracks). Is there a way to show which files iClound Match thinks are copies of one another (so I can at least check their folder location and metadata)?
I've also got the 'usual' incorrect duplicates where a live version of a song is considered a duplicate of the studio recording. Don't know how that works (when both the metadata and file length are different)...but whatever.

Hi Jim,
I've sorted my library by song title, no joy there. Also by by artist and by time. Nothing comes close to being a possible duplicate (in my mind, to my ears).
My library is old... goes back to Dec '06. It's been trough many transistions: OS and iTunes versions, as well as Macs. A few of those did not go smoothly. In order to subscribe to Match I chopped my library by more than half (~13.4K currently). More than once I've found tracks in the wrong folders (albums identified by iTunes as being one artist located in another artist's folder, though I've always let iTunes 'organize' my music). These aren't the Eric Clapton vs. Cream vs. Blind Faith vs. Derek and the Dominos vs. compliation type cross matches; these are Metalica found in Miles Davis screw ups. In the recent file reduction I found duplicates (iTunes 'show duplicate items') that didn't exist when iTunes 'show in finder' was selected. In other words (IMHO), database issues.
Right now, If I do an iTunes 'show duplicate items' on my library I have, for instance, Nirvana 'All Apologies'  from In Utero paired with the same song from MTV Unplugged. Different file size and time and still listed as a duplicate. If I check Match status on Marilyn Manson 'Better of Two Evils,' it's listed as a duplicate, but iTunes 'show duplicate items' doesn't list it. I would like to find out if there is indeed a file somewhere mislabeled and misplaced that is in reality a second copy of 'Better...'

  • I recently purchased Icloud match and am having a variety of issues. I have a PC and first off, several of my playlists have completely disappeared. Currently, the only songs from my playlists that appear on my Iphone 4 are songs purchased from Itunes.

Most of the music in my library is downloaded from prerecorded cd's to an external drive. In many instances, only certain songs from the same album will sync. I tried to convert the files to apple supported files when I see slashes and exclaimation points. The seemed to be converting and syncing to Icloud, but then they would be back to where they started the next time I turned on my computer. It appears that as much as 3/4 of the music I want to send to Icloud/match is unable to sync. What's even more frustrating is that I can no longer sync directly from computer to my phone, several of my playlists I had to recreate, and most of the music in these playlists will no longer play on my comuter. Help!

    Hi Bill of NJ,
If you are only seeing part of your content on your new computer with Home Sharing (for example, new purchases automatically downloaded with Automatic Transfer), you may need to manually transfer the remaining files via Home Sharing. You may find the following article helpful:

  • I purchased icloud match and have a Dell computer. I have not turned on icloud match yet beccause I've read that doing so will mean I'll lose all the music in my itunes library on my computer. Is this true? If so, how can I avoid it. I use Windows.

I purchased icloud match, but have not yet turned it on so all my music is shown as "waiting." I read that if I turn it on, my itunes music library will disappear and I DO NOT want that to happen! So, my question is, will my music library remain as is if I turn on the icloud match or do I have to save it someplace and then reinstall it after turning on icloud match?

Backup your music library, that is the only way to ensure it does not go missing through theft, damage, operator error, machine breaks, upgrades go wrong, operator goes wrong .........

  • ICloud match and Bluetooth issues

When I connect to the Bluetooth in my car, I can't see or play the songs that I obtained from cd's (which were on my computer).  Why can't I play all the songs? I can play them if the ipad is not connected to Bluetooth??

    Sorry, it's actually in Mavericks

  • HT204053 Need help getting my music from iCloud match to my new macbook

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro.     I'm finally leaving Wintel behind.  Yay!
Anyway, on my soon-to-be history PC, through my iTunes app on the PC, I paid the 29.95 to join iCloud Match, and it spent a few hours syncining all my itunes songs up to iCloud, including a few hours it spent uploading CD-sourced music on my PC that it couldn't match up automatically.    So far so good.
But now, I'm on my new Macbook pro, which came pre-loaded with iTunes, I'm trying to figure out how to assoicate my new MacBook Pro with the library my PC created in iCloud.      Ultimately, I just want to get rid of my PC, and have my new Mac be the device that houses my iTunes librarry, and to which I can attach my iPod from now on to sync with.
What's my next step?    Do I have to pay another 29 bucks via my MacBook to make it a valid device on the iCloud Match account?   Or is there a way I can just log into the new icloud account from my MacBook, to download the library?    I don't mind paying the 29 bucks again if that's what's necessary.  That's not the issue.    I just want to start using my Mac as the "conduit to iTunes for my iPod", in the way that my PC used to be, so I can finally dump that PC.
    Any suggestions??

Here's an update:   I decided to go through the new Mac, and try to at least Authorize it into my iTunes account throught the itunes app on the MacBook, to see what happened.    Well, I got a message on the Mac that I have exceeded the limit of 5 computers that could be associated with my itunes library.
Most of these are old computers I've long since thrown away.    So, I want to disable them.   But Apple only gives the option, to "Deauthorize All".    Which thereafter, I assume I can just enable the new Mac.    But here's my worry:
When I "deauthorize all" will that have any effect on the integrity of the library I have sitting in iCloud??  By deauthorizing all computers, and then just re-enabling one (my new Mac), is there ANY way in this process that all the songs I've purchased through itunes AND all the songs I've CD-imported on my old computer that were all uploaded to iCloud ---- that nothing will be lost or erased???

  • My iTunes is creating duplicates of playlists and hanging up. running latest version of lion, and iTunes using match and iCloud. please help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.  deleted all library files and is doing same thing.

I am runing lion and latest version of itunes.  I have match on, home sharing on and using icloud.  my itunes started hanging up and required me to force quit.  then upon restart of itunes and restart of computer itunes would take upwards of 15 minutes to open and was using >90% of CPU and would be lagging in response if responding at all one of the playlists I had created on my ipad had over a hundred copies of the same playlist.  after repeated restarts I uninstaled itunes and reinstalled.  this didnt rectify the problem.  I assumed library file had somehow become corrupt so I deleted library files, reimported all my music and synced with genius and match.  and let the computer go over night. when I woke in morning all my music was back but I had all the extra playlists again and itunes is hogging all the cpu and was minimally responsive and hanging up after each click.
I thought this might be a virus or something but installed ESET cypersecurity did a complet scan with no threats found.  I am at a total loss and do not know where to go from here.  I hope one of you can assist.  Thanks!

I had this exact issue.  Spent over an hour on the phone with apple support, they couldn't resolve.  Here is what I ended up doing, that worked.
    1.  Turned iTunes match off on all my iOS devices
    2.  Deleted the offending playlists from the iOS device they originated on
    3.  Started iTunes, let it run (literally) for an hour before it became responsive.  First thing I did, before clicking anywere else was disable iTunes match.  If I clicked anywhere, it would clock for another hour.
    4.  Let iTunes run overnight, by morning it had cleaned out the repeating play lists.  This got my Mac/iTunes back to an operable state.
    5.  Restore iPhones from backup in iTunes.
What was causing my issue was a single playlist that was created on an iPhone, then suddenly showed up with several thousand duplicates on my other iPhone.  The culprit playlist did not, for some reason, duplicate itself on my two iPads.  Apple support seemed to think it was because the problem iPhone tried to sync the playlist to iCloud over and over again unsuccessfully, then it finally went through and populated the thousands of blank/failed playlists which then tried to propigate to iTunes and my other iOS devices.  Seems like a reasonable theory.
I have not yet re-enabled iTunes match.  So, no idea what will happen if I decide to go back down that rabbit hole.

  • Why did icloud or match make a duplicates of every song in my library? how do I stop this?

really struggling with itunes since I signed on to "match" and "Icloud" All of a sudden I have dupes of every song on my windows laptop, one with a cloud with slash throug it, and one without. Now my laptop seems to have twice the memory takne up andtwice the number of songs in intunes, and my normaly "almost full" ipod is maxed out of memory, and can't sync anymore becaouse of all the duplicate songs. What happened????? How do I fix this how do I stop it from happening again? why did I ever sign up and pay for Itunes Match or Icloud. Nothing but problems since I did this.

Sometimes things have inconsistent labeling.  Check your Recently Added playlist.

  • Matched and purchased songs, should I delete the duplicate?

I clicked on show duplicates in Itunes and lots of duplicates but one says Matched (iCloud Status) and one says Purchased.  Should I delete one of the duplicates? and if so which one?

Be very careful here. My experience has been mixed regarding this. Sometimes the "Matched" version is better than the "Purchased" version, or vice versa. There may be a "Clean" version of the same song, or an "Album" cut verses "Radio Plug" version. Match has a nasty habit of replacing songs with "Clean", or "Rerecorded" versions. I had 5 minute version of a song, matched with a 4 minute version on iTunes Match. It showed as a 5 minute song, but went silent at 4 minutes, playing 1 minute of silence. And this was from a song I purchased on iTunes. Listen to both versions carefully, before deleting one. Better yet, make a backup of both files.

  • Icloud-match has overloaded my library with duplicates

my library was overloaded ... too many tunes & videos sucking up memory... so i looked at icloud as a potential blessing but it has become a curse .. on home sharing with my family we have multiple ghost copies of each tune .. as many as we have devices 2-10 copies, each a dead link in the library ... help! i am about to cancel icloud & match & rescue my music from my back up hard drive then never again try to use any cloud storage that does not have a safety feature for filtering uploads to eliminate duplicates or ghost duplicates ...
but first has anyone else encountered similar problems & found solutions within the itunes framework?
    thanks
    jb

It's too bad that things have not gotten better on iTunes Match.  I cancelled my subscription last year, after running into similar issues.  iTunes eats your music and sometimes doesn't give it back.  I agree, it's one of the worst products they have right now.  If you want a system that works well with keeping your music safe and uploaded, Google Play, is quite good, and even has an iOS app.  Good alternative and also auto-uploads your iTunes music purchases whenever you purchase new music.
    Just an idea.....

  • Used iTunes match and states 2400 songs matched, yet no icloud matching

Used iTunes match and states 2400 songs matched, yet no icloud logos next to my songes except a few indicating duplicates and no songs match to my iphone. Help. I've tried re-matching, turning icloud off/on. no luck. No songs now on iphone. Any suggestestion.

If you right-click on the header bar above your music and select "iCloud Status" it'll show you exactly what their status is and if they've been matched, uploaded or are still waiting to be processed and/or uploaded.
You may need to quit iTunes and relaunch it to kick-start the process again if Match says it's done but your libraries show differently.

  • I subscribed to iTunes Match and would like to sync my music on multiples devices that have different Apple IDs within the same iCloud family.

I subscribed to iTunes Match and would like to sync my music on multiples devices that have different Apple IDs within the same iCloud family.
Can someone indicate the way to proceed?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can't use family sharing or multiple Apple IDs with iTunes match.
ITunes match is only attached to Apple id that you used to subscribe.

  • Using 2 different icloud accounts, but share match and photos from one account

My wife and I have an our own Macs and iPhones. I would like to have the photo stream and match from one account shared on both but use backup, contacts, calendar, ect. seperately
The way I currently have it setup it somewhat works except we both backup to the same account and the Maps program uses my account (which is where the backup and photo stream comes from)
    Does anyone have a suggestion?

You can create a shared primary account and each add individual secondary iCloud accounts to your devices to sync mail, contacts, calendars, reminders and notes.  However, only the primary account can be used for iCloud Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Documents and Data, iCloud Backup and Find My iDevice.  Also, mail in the secondary account is fetch rather than push.  Perhaps that's your current setup.  If you want to share the same photo stream, that's how you'll have to set things up.
An alternative of course would be to maintain separate iCloud accounts and manually add photos to a shared stream on your devices and invite each other as subscribers.

  • Recently got a new iPod 4th gen; I had previously backed up to iCloud and subscribed to iTunes Match, and then wound up syncing the new iPod to my MacBook Pro; all iCloud tunes were downloaded to Mac but won't all sync to the iPod - any suggestions?

Recently got a new iPod Touch 4th gen; I had previously backed up to iCloud and subscribed to iTunes Match, and then wound up syncing the new iPod to my MacBook Pro; all iCloud tunes were downloaded to Mac but won't all sync to the iPod after multiple attempts, despite all songs showing properly on the Mac and multiple syncs occurring after all songs were properly reflected on the Mac.  I updated iTunes Match from the iTunes Store menu as well pre-sync.
I should mention that I had previously had the library on a Dell (which is still running) and shared it on my home network.  While all iTunes purchases now show in the Dell, the Mac is the device I use for all syncs.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the iCloud physical sync failure - some songs were legacy, some were purchased via the PC, some on the old iPod.
The Mac shows all the songs correctly and none show iCloud status -all have been downloaded, but the downloaded songs that were previously showing up as iCloud based aren't syncing to the iPod.
Is there any way to force all music being seen by my iPod as iCloud to download to so I can listen to them offline?  Is there a way to force the sync from iTunes?

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.
