can I set up a 2nd email address on iCloud using the same apple I'd for a 4s iPhone?

You can create up to 3 alias @icloud.com email addresses for that purpose.  They will all receive email in your existing iCloud inbox and they can be deactivated or deleted if they attract too much spam.  This article explains how to create an alias address: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • Apple lossless quality over time

I have noticed my apple lossless files have been loosing quality over time. How can this be? This has to be impossible since it's a lossless format. My question is - Could this happen if there is a bug in the itunes software? Or perhaps I have a virus or something. I would like for apple to look into it and see if its true or not.

If the tracks are in Apple Lossless format it means they will not be protected by DRM and as such you can therefore test playing them in an alternate program like VLC.
I doubt it is your issue, but relatively recently Apple added a new feature to allowing syncing Apple Lossless tracks to an iPod, iPhone, or iPad and during sync for them to be downscaled to 128kbit AAC format. The originals in Apple Lossless would still be kept on your computer but this allows using lower quality and smaller versions on your iPod (etc.) device which has less space than your computer.
While your computer might be in a quiet room with good powerful speakers, your iPod (etc.) is going to be used on the go with little headphones and as such can stand using lower quality versions of the music.
Ideally, Apple would let you choose 256kbit AAC for this but they don't.

  • Kbs and apple lossless

Is Apple Lossless the best format to  import your music onto  your library.  How many Kbs would equal Apple Lossless. I can re import my CD's if lossless is going to improve the sound quality.  Most of my music was imported around 300 Kbs  and I don't want to waste my time if the sound quality is not much different.
I listen via airplay on an expensive speaker
Any advice is warmly welcome re these formats.
    Thanks

    Fred,
Apple Lossless does not use a fixed bitrate.  It uses an adaptive algorithm that uses more or fewer bits depending on the sonic complexity of each portion of the music.  On average, a file encoded with Apple Lossless will be around 700 to 1000 kbps.
Because it is lossless, it provides equivalent audio to the CD the file was ripped from.  Whether it is sufficiently better is a very subjective decision.  If you still have the original CDs, rip some tracks in Apple Lossless, and see if they sound better to you than your MP3 or AAC files.  Try tracks of a few different musical styles, and use your usual audio equipment and your usual listening conditions.
If it sounds better to you, then you can proceed to re-rip your collection.  Given that you have a good quality speaker system, you may well enjoy the better audio.

  • What does Match do to Apple Lossless and AIFF?

I have all my music imported as Apple Lossless.  Will I lose quality if I use Match?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Yes, that it what I said :-)
Itunes temporarily converts the file to 256 in order to upload it to Icloud but leaves the ALAC file on your computer HD.
When you play back from your computer where the original file is stored you play the ALAC file.
If you download the file to another Idevice from Icloud you will of course have a 256 file, which should be quite adequate for on the go listening.
EG, When I stream to my hi end home stereo useing squeezebox server through Itunes on my Imac it streams full ALAC files, not 256 files. And I am talking about files  which were uploaded to Icloud, NOT matched.
I was very careful to verify this before uploading more than a few files.
    I don't want 256 streaming to a 70,000.00 system :-)

  • Ripping CDs via Apple Lossless

In anticipation of the launch of iTunes Match, I started ripping my CDs in Apple Lossless format. I ripped two CDs but then I notice that those tracks were not available on my Windows Media Player as well as for Amazon cloud drive. I then converted the files to AAC via iTunes, which made them compatible with Amazon (haven't tested the WMP yet). However, all the tracks were duplicated in iTunes. Is there any way to avoid this, basically have both Apple Lossless and AAC files in my machine, but not duplicate my iTunes albums? Thanks!

It is perfectly possible to get WMP 12 in WIndows 7 to accept Apple Lossless files, to play them, and even to read the embedded metadata including the embedded album artwork. I cannot comment about Amazon's cloud, however even Apple's own iCloud only supports AAC format in that via iTunes Match (when turned on by Apple) it will provide only 256kbit AAC even if your own iTunes copy is in something else like Apple lossless.
To get WMP 12 and Windows 7 to accept Apple Lossless you need to do the following
Install a directshow filter so WMP can play Apple lossless, there is only one such directshow filter available, it was written by Milenko Mitrovic and is based on a solution devised by myself. The easiest way to install this is as part of a codec pack for Windows 7, as this pack will also do the hard work of disabling the built-in AAC codec which otherwise would interfere, the directshow filter can play both AAC and Apple Lossless. This pack can be downloaded from here http://shark007.net/win7codecs.html
You now also need to install a plugin for WMP 12. While Apple Lossless uses exactly the same file extension, exactly the same file format, exactly the same metadata format as AAC which WMP 12 already understands, Microsoft deliberately chose to make life difficult and put Apple Lossless files in the other section instead of the music section. This plugin written by Tim De Baets tricks WMP 12 in to handling Apple Lossless just like AAC and therefore put them in the music section, see http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=75123&view=findpost&p=76 7947
I have my entire iTunes library in Apple Lossless and shared with WMP. Via WMP it even works in Microsoft Media Center.
If your syncing your iTunes library to an iPod, iPhone, or iPad, you can set iTunes to automatically convert to AAC format when copying to your iPod (or similar) device. Your iTunes library will be unaffected and just keep a single Apple Lossless version.
If you do want to have both AAC and Apple Lossless versions but not have both listed, you can create a second separate iTunes library by holding down the Shift key when you launch iTunes.

  • How to backup multiple iphones with different iCloud accounts but same apple id?

I would like to back up 3 idevices each with different icloud accounts to itunes. But they use the same apple id so that itune purchases can be installed on each device (2 iphones and 1 ipad).
All I want to do is create a backup in case the phones need to be restored. I also want to back up before downloading iOS 8.
The Macbook Pro that I will back up to has one user and one itunes library.
Is this possible without mixing up address books and contacts etc? Appreciate if some one could direct me to detail step-by-step instructions if they exist or please tell me how I can do this.
    Thanks.

With Family Sharing they don't need to have the same Apple ID anymore.
But backups to iTunes are kept separate among multiple devices; Apple ID and iCloud isn't involved at all. Just make sure the devices do not have the same name.

You can't setup an iCloud account using a PC. You need a Mac, or an IOS device. You can sign into iCloud on your PC once you open an account.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Go to the 'Go' menu in the Finder and hold down the option key to reveal the Library. Then navigate to library > preferences > system configuration and drag the 'Networkinterfaces.plist' file to the trash and restart for mac. Now try again.

  • How do I change icloud email when my apple ID has been updated to new email? Because of the update on apple ID, when I try to delete icloud account I have to put in the password, and it says username or password is invalid (because no longer apple ID).

How do I change icloud email when my apple ID has been updated to new email? When I try to delete icloud account (in settings-icloud-delete account) I have to put in the password for the apple ID of my old email address, which is no longer my apple ID, and it says username or password is invalid (I'm guessing because that is no longer my apple ID).

You will wait for the rest of your life. You need to fix it; no one else will. To turn off "Find my iPhone" and its associated Activation Lock you need the Apple ID and password that were used to turn it on. If you know the Apple ID you can contact Apple Account Security and have them reset the password (after you prove you are the rightful owner of that Apple ID). see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.
If you don't know the Apple ID the phone is permanently unusable.

  • Can't Import Songs To iTunes Using Apple Lossless Encoder

I have about 4,000 songs in FLAC format (which is a lossless format) on my external hard drive. I want to import them into iTunes using the Apple Lossless Encoder. I called Apple support and asked them how to do this, and they told me to go under "Preferences" in iTunes and chose to import using Apple Lossless Encoder.
I did this using Preferences>General>Import Settings, and then went to File>Add Folder to Library, however, it still imported my songs as AAC Audio Files. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

iTunes cannot read nor import FLAC files - not without third-party plugins, anyway, and I don't know of any that will allow iTunes to convert a FLAC file to another format - so I'm a bit confused as to the procedure you're following. If all you're doing is using the Add to Library command and choosing the FLAC files, it's quite possible that iTunes is misinterpreting the format and adding what is in reality an invalid link with erroneous format information.
If you have some sort of third-party plugin for FLAC for iTunes, please post that information and perhaps someone here can determine whether iTunes can do a conversion successfully.

How to I get music I purchased before the iCloud was created to show up on my new authorized iPhone?  Right now I can only see the Apps I recently purchased on the actual phone but older music I purchased on my CPU using the same Apple ID doesn't appear.

Does any music show in the Purchased tab on the iTunes store app on your phone ? Music can't be re-downloaded in all countries, and even where it can be it will only appear whilst it remains in the store. Do you have your purchases on your computer and/or on a backup of your puchases so that you can sync them to your phone ?
