ICloud not usable as general storage device?

I was a big fan of iDisk, then it changed to iCloud. Without reading much about it, I thought when they said it was changing, it would be for the better, and like an idiot I just paid the $100 and went with it. I actually NEED to use it to transfer some files into the cloud so I can access them from work and home occasionally, and now if I understand right, I can't just do that? The files are anything from Access database files to Excel, Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc. Please advise. You can't tell me all of these file types can be created in iWork and maintain their native file formats without corruption at some point. I would give anything to see that nice little blue cloud icon on my desktop where I can drag and drop and not have to worry about all this, and now, I feel jipped, or pretty stupid b/c I can't find this answer anywhere. Please help.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, iCloud does not offer equivalents to Mobile Me’s iDisk, Gallery or Web Hosting services. You will need to find a third party solution to replace these services. You might consider DropBox, SugarSync, MediaFire or any other service that offers online storage. (not all these alternatives offer all the services previously provided by iDisk)

  • NOT ON ITUNES ONLY STORAGE DEVICE

My ipod will not go on itunes. only comes up on my computer as a storage device. I troubleshooted for two days following all directions nothing worked. I have three other idops and just got this on ebay brand new from japan. did not know that this was coming from there. Hope it is not broke.

    Two things to know:
    1. Any instructions that tell you to enable "Audiobooks" in the Preferences > General section are a couple releases old. Apple changed "Audiobooks" to just "Books" when they launced the iBooks Bookstore. Just make sure Books is checked, and both your eBooks and your audiobooks will appear in the Books source list.
    2. You probably need to turn on sync'ing for your audiobooks. Connect your device (here, the iPhone 4), select it in the DEVICES section of the iTunes sidebar, then select the Books tab in the sync configuration area. You'll have to scroll down to the Audiobooks section, because eBooks and audiobooks have separate sync settings.

  • PCI USB Card Does NOT Work With Mass Storage Devices

I have a StarTech PCI card with 6 USB 2.0 ports that I inserted in my 500 MHz (overclocked) B&W Power Mac G3. It works great for any USB device EXCEPT for any hard drive or DVD/CD-RW drive. I checked the system.log file for errors. Nothing shows up in System Profiler or Disk Utility, obviously. Here's what it consistently says:
Dec 16 23:33:28 Geoff-Myers-Power-Mac-G3 kernel[0]: USBF: 674.997 [0xf9c000] The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep retrying. (Port 6 of hub @ location: 0x62000000)
    Dec 16 23:33:33 Geoff-Myers-Power-Mac-G3 kernel[0]: USBF: 679.977 [0xf9c000] The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device.
I'm running the latest version of Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.3. What is wrong? StarTech doesn't have a driver, but nothing should be necessary. Is there a 3rd party USB Mass Storage Device driver that might work better than the Apple generic driver? PLEASE HELP ME! I cannot live with USB 1.1.

Some users have reported problems with certain brand cards and their controller chipsets, so trying a different card may resolve the problem. Keyspan and Macally are often mentioned as being more "Mac-friendly" than some other lessser-known brands or generic cards. Does the card have a mini-power port to supplement the power requirements? With USB 2.0, each port is on a separate bus, so a card with six ports should have one. To minimize the overall draw on the available power, I prefer to install USB cards with as few ports as are needed.

  • Ipod does not appear as a storage device in My Computer Folder

    Hello all!
I am new at this. I am switching computers and learned that I can use my Ipod as a storage device to transfer all of my music into the new computer. I have the directions but am stuck at the point where I need to copy the itunes folder in My Music to the Ipod (which should show in the My Computer folder but it does not. Any ideas? Is there an easier way to do this? Thank you!

    Hi! Thanks!
Yes I do have disk mode enabled. Anyway, I circumvented the problem when I used a transfer cable to copy files and settings from my old computer to a new one. My itunes library was transferred to the new computer. The only problem now is that all of my non-itunes music was copied twice in the new itunes music library in the new computer. Don't understand why.

  • Internal Flash Not Mounting as Mass Storage Device

I just switched from a Storm to a Tour.  In Mass Storage Device Mode, the Storm would mount as two drives -- Blackberry1 for device memory and Blackberry2 for the SD card.  The Tour only mounts Blackberry2.  Anybody know why the difference or if this can be corrected?  Thanks.

I used to see that same thing on the tour, but now I can not.  I want to see my SYSTEM MEMORY IN WINDOWS EXPLORER!!!!  PLEASE HELP!!!
    I have a verizon tour 9630.

  • 9100 Internal Flash Not Seen as Mass Storage Device

BB 9100 (OS5) when connected USB to laptop does not show the internal memory "Blackberry1" drive. Only the media card shows as "Blackberry User Tools" drive.
Tried on both WIN7 and WIN XP platforms and get same results.
Sync with DTM 6 works fine. USB BB Smartphone driver is 4.1.0.4.
My Bold 9000 (OS5) and Torch 9800 (OS6) show both the internal memory and the media card as drives on the same laptop as trying with the 9100.
Is the "Blackberry User Tools" drive the equivalent of what I'm used to seeing as two separate drives on the Bold and/or Torch?
Is this unique to the Pearl? Anyone else?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Then, yes, that's part of the 256MB of device memory.  That's the same memory used for the OS.  I don't recommend using that for any storage of media or documents.  Make sure most everything gets saved to the media card.  Otherwise you will fill up your device memory and eventually the OS will delete call logs, emails, texts, etc.
Your 9000 (as well as some other devices) has an extra memory location that works like a built-in media card.  That's different than the 256MB of device memory on your 9100.

  • ICloud Not Syncing Properly on One Device

So I have an iPad, iPhone, iMac, and Macbook Pro.
I use iCloud syncing for one program, Notability and for whatever reason, things do not get synced to the Macbook Pro. In order to retrieve all the documents in the cloud, I have to uncheck 'iCloud Drive' in System Preferences and then recheck it. (Also of note is that the reading list in Safari does not sync properly, but contacts does). This only happens with the Macbook Pro. I have tried signing in and out of iCloud but it occurs again. I am using the same e-mail address with all devices. Anybody have any clue what could be the issue?

It's important to realise that there is only one copy of your Contacts and Calendars, it lives at iCloud.com and your devices (all of them) get the same thing. If your calendars are gone from iCloud.com you're going to need a backup copy.
? Do the calendars exist on any device? Do you backup your Mac?
On each device verify the iCloud calendar and contacts are set as the default (if you do not have any accounts other than iCloud this does not apply)
iTunes likewise has one Library, the iTunes library, quite separate from any iCloud connection. Again, you should keep a backup of it. You can download all tunes purchased from iTunes whenever you want, if you use iTunes Match you can download all the music in your iTunes library regardless of how it got there.
In iTunes, ensure that 'Show Music in the Cloud' is checked. (View Menu)

  • How do I download a movie to my phone?  when I click 'rent' through itunes, I get a message that there is not enough available local storage, but I can manage my local device storage usage in 'Settings'.  I have activated icloud, but this has not helped.

How do I download a movie to my iphone 3G?  When I click 'rent' in itunes, I get a message that there is not enough available local storage, but I can manage storage on my device in 'Settings'.  I have activated icloud, but don't know how to change my storage so that I can rent and watch the movie on my phone.  thanks for any help you can give.

I always do my Rentals with the itunes program on the computer.
Make rental from itunes store. It will show in movies under library, DO NOT click to play it. Plug in the device to the computer. Click the name of the device on left. Click on movies. There is an  option to copy to the device. Sync. obviously you still need space on ipad to put rental but you can have it take computers hard drive space until you need it.

Try turning off the Camera Roll option in Settings>iCloud>Backup & Storage>Manage Storage>Your device. Then turn it back on again.

  • My Ipod Touch 4G  is showing up as a storage device in my computer but not on Itunes.

So I have a Ipod touch 4g. It is showing up as a storage device when I connect it, but not in Itunes or any other third party program. My IPod has connected to this computer before on this version of ITunes and worked fine. Now, it's just not. I really need help. I have tried everything, reseting my Ipod, the services with right clicking computer and clicking manage, reinstalling Itunes (2 times) and restarting, nothing works. I have read tons of other peoples discussions and nothing worked. I have checked for viruses and uninstalled all Third party programs I have, nothing seemed to work. I really need help.

In the /dev/ folder on the device shows up, not the partitions. When I try to open it with cfdisk I get "FATAL ERROR: Cannot open disk drive". I am pretty sure it iss neither a hardware problem with my laptop or my usb devices, as they both work on my dual-booted Ubuntu. My usb ports in general seem to be functioning, I can still charge a phone through them and use my built in USB webcam.
I am not sure where exactly this issue lies, it started after I upgraded to 3.0.7 (among other updates) from the normal repositories, but still persisted after I downgraded to 3.0.6.
My attempts at Googling have so far revealed mainly hardware errors, which don't seem to fit with the devices working on another OS on the same pc.
    Thanks.

  • Am I correct, if I presume that Photo stream IS the iCloud storage device for photos?

Is Photo-stream the iCloud storage device for photos?

Photo Stream is a photo sync service between your computers and devices. That's not designed as a storage service, because photos uploaded to Photo Stream are deleted 30 days after adding them to it. If you want to see more limitations, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4858?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • Trying to update apps on iphone and getting error message, there is not enough available local storage to download these items. you can manage your local device storage usage in settings

trying to update apps on iphone and getting error message, there is not enough available local storage to download these items. you can manage your local device storage usage in settings. What am I to do?

The storage you purchased is in the cloud, and doesn't do anything with your pad.  Your problem is simply that you have too much content on your pad.   Go to settings, general, usage, and it will show you how much space you have avaliable on your pad.  If you let the screen sit for a while, all the apps will be displayed, and you can see how much stuff you have associated with each.
You have to no option but to delete some of the content on your pad.  Videos, comics, pitcures and some music files use a lot of space.   The cloud allows you to leave stuff there, so you can get it when you need it.

  • HT1766 why does my IPHONE 5  say cant back up to Icloud not enough storage. How do I make more storage without spending more money

Why does my IPHONE5 say cant back up to Icloud not enough storage. Whats that mean? How do I get more storage without spending more money?

With iCloud you get 5GB of storage for free and you have to pay an annual fee for more
Settings > iCloud > Storage and Backup > Change Storage Plan
If you don't want to pay and still want to backup to iCloud you will need to delete data off the device until your under 5GB
To check if you're under 5GB go Settings > Geneal > Usage
    Hop that helps
