  • IMac Intel first generation finds no wireless signal

I recently had Apple replace the hard drive in my 2 year old Intel based iMac. I then restored all my lost data (since it was a new hard drive) using Time Machine. Everything works great, but my computer no longer recognizes ANY wireless signals. My work laptop and my iPhone find both my wireless router and a number of my neighbors'.
Airport is turned on and everything looks to be the way it should be in terms of system settings.
Is it possible they forgot to reconnect the antenna to my wireless card when they replaced the hard drive? (I have no knowledge of what the interior of my iMac looks like so I don't know if they are located close together.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Unfortunately it was a blinding flash of the obvious that fixed my issue...
Simply rebooting the iMac brought it back to life.
    Duh.
I assumed that since Apple usually forces reboots after updates if they are required that this didn't require one, apparently it did.

  • Any chance of iMac G5 first generation repair program be active again?

Any possibility that the iMac G5 first generation repair program will be active again?
I had no idea about this program since I was away overseas for few years and by the time
I return in 2009 and used my iMac G5 again, it started to have problems with display and then later the power supply I think?
Now I have just left the iMac G5 alone and let it sit on my desk like a display only and unable to use it thinking to fix it will be way too expensive.
Then today decided to check online to see if there are other solutions other than throwing it away as a garbage,
I found there was actually an extended program and I missed it!!
Because of this encounter I disliked using apple and reluctant to buy any more of apple products due to many limitations and this
extremly expensive iMac G5 I bought in 2005 and barely used it.
Hopfully there are other solutions to this old iMac G5 I have that I cannot use any more along with the expensive Final Cut Pro ver 4.5
studio suite I bought that only works with it.

There is no chance the repair extension progrm will be renewed, but call Customer Support and explain the situation. You might get lucky and find someone who's having a very good day --  or not -- who will OK the repairs. Be polite; don't start by ranting about how you won't buy any more Macs.
But I wouldn't bet the ranch on it. The program ended three years ago, in the fall of '08, I believe. If you had reported the problem in '09 when it started, you might have had a much better chance.
Perhaps one needed to have registered the computer -- I don't know --- but I don't believe any of the affected owners, registered or not, were notified by Apple of the program. You can try making the point that you were never notified of the program's existence and therefore had no way of taking advantage of it.
The iMac G5 is by now a "vintage" Mac, and I don't even think the Apple Stores will work on it. Maybe an AASP will, but the parts they get for it from Apple, if any are still availble, may be very dicey, anyway.
There are a few places that may still work on these for far less than Apple or an AASP.

  • My IMAC G5 First Generation WONT SLEEP by itself

I have more than a year with this amazing machine. About a month ago it only will sleep manually, even when my external HD is off, no printer conected and IDISK not sync. Any help ? I search in the forums but most common trouble seems to be the opposite. Tks in advanced.

    iLee,
What you described is for the later iMac models, not the Rev A, which Carlos said he has---and that process you just mentioned is not for resetting the PRAM, but the SMU.
Here is how to reset the PRAM from Apple's support pages:
This document explains how to reset the parameter random access memory (PRAM) and nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) on Macintosh computers.
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    1) Shut down the computer.
    2) Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3) Turn on the computer.
    4) Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5) Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6) Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.

  • Imac G5 first generation Harddisk

    Hello,
I need to replace the harddisk as it is crashed. The orginal HD was 200GB but I would like to upgrade this does anyone know what the maximum is that the Imac can handle and what type of HD needs to go in ?
    Thanks
    Robert

You can put in as large a drive as you like, providing that it is a 3.5" SATA drive. I have heard of people putting in 750GB rives and having no problems.Good places to get drives are macsales.com or newegg.com.

  • Boot up iMac Intel. Kernal Panic can't boot up computer??

I'm fixing my friend iMac Intel first generation Dual Core 32 bit.
Not the lastest one. Since I know more of him with macs.
My friend trip off the power cord of his imac by accident one morning and when
he put the cord back in to the imac to power up.
Is stuck on the loading screen apple logo with a kernal panic and can't get no where.
In the background there is text like in the terminal with saying Apple CPU Power Management Debugger.
How do I resolve this problem

    Hi Frank
Reset the SMC exactly as described in the article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
It could be that the cord or surge protector was damaged, try using a different power cord and a different surge protector.

  • How can i update my old 2006 iMac Intel core 2 duo running 10.6.8 to OSX Lion so that I can sync using iCloud with my newer devices?  Mountain Lion is not an option for my older model and Lion is no longer available at App store.

Call Apple's online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775. For Lion you'll get a redemptions code via e-mail and need to DL from the Mac Apple Store (requires SL 10.6.6+).

I have an old (first generation) iMac that I still use sometimes for the applications that are on it. I was using it yesterday and unfortunately had a power cut. I went to turn it on today, and nothing at all happens. It's as though no power is getting to it. I've checked the obvious things, changed the fuse, tried different cables, poked paperclips in reset holes, but nothing doing. I wonder if there is anyone who knows what might be wrong. I was hoping to get some of its content transferred soon, but I'm guessing that can't be done if it can't be started up. Many thanks, if you can help

    Hello,
    >It's as though no power is getting to it.
Would it be correct to assume that no sounds at all can be heard? Also, no lights, not even green or amber at the power button?
    >unfortunately had a power cut.
Was it possibly a power cut in connection with a thunderstorm? Any other evidence of higher than normal voltages (light bulbs, et cetera)? Has the line voltage been checked (measured with an appropriate voltmeter/multimeter)?
If necessary, it would be possible to remove the hard drive, and then connect it to an external IDE/ATA to USB adapter (example below). That way you could gain access to files on the hard disk from another computer.

  • ICloud available to use with IMac (Intel)?

My bellsouth.net email was hacked and I want to set up a new email account.  I set up an ICloud account through my IPhone 4S.  Can I set up and use ICloud for my IMac OS X Version 10.6.8?  All updates on the Mac appear current.

To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • Generation 4 iPod Connection to new iMac intel core 2 duo

Okay, first of all heres all my technical information:
-new iMac Intel Core 2 Duo
-Gen 4 iPod, non color diplay
    -running iTunes 7.0.2
-sadly, no iPod power brick(although i think i need it to solve the problem)
Okay, now to the problem, I tried to connect the iPod to my new iMac, and it worked after leaving it alone for 15 minutes. It is formated to windows and i wanted the music to stay on it, so i disconnected it. Afterward i just thought, screw it, and connected it hoping to restore it, but it never showed up in iTunes or the finder. I thought this was odd, then i looked at the iPod and it displayed a image of a iPod power brick going into an outlet. i havent been able to get to the apple store and thought there must be an easier way to do this, so i went to get the old install disc for my iPod that came with it. Hoping this would finally work, i tried to run the package installer for the iPod to install the drivers, and it displayed(after it evaluated my comp) "Cannot be installed on this computer, missing Mac OSX Networking Update" I've looked all over the Downloads area of the Apple site and havent been able to find it. Can someone please help me!?!

I have the new 24" flat screen imac and a new IPOD video. I was using the ipod on an old mac with 10.4 and it was working ok with a few sync issues. But when I tried it with the new mac I get very bad results. Itunes hangs and I need to do a hard power reset. Then the ipod once hung up and I had to do a restore on my old mac. Still have not successfully used the ipod with the new mac.
    my system is the following
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM61.0093.B01
    SMC Version: 1.10f2
    Serial Number: W86380PXWSG
    any ideas?

  • My problem is that my iCal won't sync from my first-generation iPad to my computer, and the computer sends events multiple times back to the iPad... which is now full of duplicate events. I'm NOT on iCloud.

I'm just an old lady who doesn't know a lot about this stuff, but I do love my iPad and miss my portable calendar! My problem is that my iCal won't sync from my (first-generation, cheaper of the two models) iPad to my computer, and the computer sends events multiple times back to the iPad... which is now full of duplicate events. I'm NOT on iCloud. I've had this problem for nearly a year now. My Really Really Smart son couldn't fix it for me.

Can take some time.... how much time?
There's no simple answer to that. My calendar goes back to 2004 and is moderately busy; it took around an hour. It's possible that you've hit a slow period on the server - it happens.
In order for it to work, your calendars should show on the MobileMe site, they should be listed under your MobileMe login name in the calendar list in iCal (calendars listed under 'On My Mac' will not sync) and your MM account details have to be entered in iCal Preferences>Accounts (this should have happened by itself).
If it's not working please see the page I linked to.
