Icloud password loop when declining an ask to buy purchase using family sharing
My daughter asked to buy an app using family sharing. I received the notification on my phone and when I hit decline, it asks for my icloud password. When entered, it asks continuously and will not finalize declining the purchase. Same process on my wife's phone. We were able to approve a purchase, just not decline one.
Help please.
I am using a 4s, my daughter and wife both have 5cs. All running iOS8 with family sharing set up.
Thank you Ms. SJ!!!!
I was having this problem with my youngest daughters account. Your post about establishing the payment history apart from family sharing made a lot of sense. My oldest daughter has had an account for some time that she had been adding iTunes gift cards to, so her account was "established" before it was added to our family sharing group. I had no trouble approving her purchases.
I had set up an account for my youngest daughter a long time ago, but used it only for email and iMessage on her iPod. My ID was used for purchases on the device. After Family sharing was launched and she got an iPad for Christmas, I decided to set up her ID as the primary account on her new iPad and added her to family sharing.
The first problem I ran into with Family Sharing was enabling the "Ask to Buy" function because since I set up accounts for my daughters a long time ago they were both showing as adults. I learned from another post that the fix for this was to change their birthdates to January 1, 2001. I did this and it has them listed as Age 14 on their family sharing profiles - fine.
I then ran into the same problem with Ask to Buy that David Wilkie described above. My fix was a little different from yours and less intensive.
Removed my youngest daughter from family sharing
Purchased an app using her account alone (with an iTunes gift card attached) to establish a purchase history.
I then re-added her to our family sharing group.
I had her purchase a song using "Ask to Buy" and it worked as expected.
Thanks for going through the legwork with support to find this fix and share it. I hope my experience can be helpful as well.

Ask to buy functionality with family sharing.
I have set up all the family devices with the kids iTunes accounts, as well as my wife and I having our accounts. All are linked in family sharing. The children have their accounts set up for ask to buy.
The problem, they are not presented with the popup to select ask to buy, they are presented with the iTunes login as though they are me.
I can not seem to find any other reports of this or what possible steps to make to correct it.
Thank you
DaveMy guess is that they are not legged in under their own Apple ID, but instead as yours. In my case we had to sign out on the kid's phone, where we were signed as [email protected], and sign back into the itunes store as [email protected]

Hi, I forgot my icloud password and my ipodtouch keeps asking me for my icloud password. When I enter my apple ID password, it will not accept it. I have been trying to find where I can reset my icloud password with no success. Please can someone help?
You reset the iClould password the same way you reset the Apple ID for the email address/account
How do I change or recover a forgotten Apple ID Password?
If you've forgotten your Apple ID Password or want to change it, go to My Apple ID and follow the instructions. SeeChanging your Apple ID password if you'd like more information. -
I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting the new computer, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep. I want to use my iCloud password on both computers consistently. How can I fix this?
The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:
iCloud- Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
3. Click the "First Aid" tab
4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
5. Close the Preferences window
6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
7. Enter your username and password
8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
"New Keychain"
7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

I saw another thread on the matter but thought I would post because the circumstances are different. Here is how it happened.
I have had an Apple Store account for years and until recently our family has only had our one Mac and my iPhone 4. Thus any purchases we have made on the Apple App Store were made only with this account.
We recently purchased two iPhone 5S's--one for my wife and one for my daughter. Neither had Apple IDs so first we set up my wife's iPhone and created an Apple ID for her. Next we used the Family Sharing feature to set up an account for our "under age 13" daughter.
Because I am still waiting for my iPhone 6 Plus to arrive, and because the iPhone 4 cannot upgrade to iOS 8, and because my Apple ID is the only account with any apps that have been purchased in prior years, I set up my wife as the Family Organizer but when I set up her account, I chose the option to "share purchases from a different account" and entered the information for my Apple ID.
My daughter is able to view my prior purchases on her iPhone, but when my wife tries to view my prior purchases, she receives the message "This iTunes account is set up to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than <her Apple ID>."
I hope Apple is reading this. I would be more than willing to help them on this one as this feature is one of the main reasons I put our family on iPhones.I had this problem. I finally figured it out yesterday. Try this:
On the device that is having trouble seeing purchases, go to Settings>iCloud>Family Sharing> Then tap on the user of the device you are on. Under "Family Purchases" make sure it has the AppleID of the person for that device. Mine originally had my husbands AppleID in there (he is the Organizer), but I changed it to mine. That doesn't make it so that the purchases are under me. The purchases remained under my husband, but my ID had to be in this spot for it to work.
After that, I closed settings, then I went to Settings>iTunes and App Store> click on the AppleID and Sign Out, even if it has the right AppleID in there. Then Sign In again using the AppleID of the person on that device. Again-- even if it has the right ID in there to start, still sign out and back in.
See if they show up. If they don't show up still, try doing a restart (hold down power button and home button until it restarts).
They should show up by then, but if they don't, at that point, try to go into iCloud and Sign Out and back in.
I think the key is having the right ID in "Family Purchases". I hope this works for you. -
HT201058 How much iCloud data do you get using Family Sharing?
If I add both of my daughters to my Family Sharing, how much iCloud storage do we get between the 3 of us?
Is it worth joining ID's, if we only have 5GB to share between us, considering we are all using over 4GB each now.I would also like to know how I can merge a Apple ID with another ID?
I set up my daughters ID's about 3 years ago, but I had to add 10 years to their Date Of Birth, else I could not get them ID's. Now when I have added my daughter to my Family Sharing, it states she is an adult, and it will not let my change her DOB. Apple says I have to setup a child ID within Family Sharing.
So, can I change a Adult ID to a Child ID, or merge a Adult ID to a new Child ID? -
"this itunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account"
I set up an iCloud family. Until now, everyone had their own iCloud account, and we had a separate iTunes ID (not an iCloud e-mail address) that all of our purchases were made under.
So, I set up that Apple ID as the master account and added everyone's personal iCloud accounts as members.
Then, I went into iTunes prefs and logged in as my iCloud account.
When I go to the App store and go to Purchased, it says:
"this itunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account than <my iTunes Apple ID>." Then there is a Learn More link that takes me to my iCloud and shows my family group with the same Apple ID as the organizer.
Does anyone have any idea what happened to cause it to think that I am not in the same family group?
Thanks.Update...I now notice:
Going to: App Store>Updates>Purchases:
1) The message “This iTunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account other than <her iCloud ID>...” Is now showing up on my iPhone and can no longer see any of my purchases or hers.
2) The same message above is now showing on my iPad mini (it didn’t before). But, I can still see both hers and my purchases on my iPad mini.
3) The message "This iTunes account is set up to use family sharing with a different iCloud account other than <my iCloud ID>…” still showing on her iPhone and she still can’t see her or my purchases.
iTunes Family Sharing still works fine.
Note: If I Go to Settings>iTunes & App Store then log out of my Apple ID, then go to App Store>Updates>Purchases and log into my Apple ID from there, My purchases show up (not hers). I then toggle between Updates and Purchases and the message pops up and unable to see any purchases, again. Same thing happens when I do it to her phone except her purchases show up (not mine).
I emailed this update to Apple...waiting for a reply. -
When using Family Sharing, it appears that all family members have the ability to lock and erase all devices that are linked to the family account. This does not seem very secure. For example, I wouldn't want my disgruntled family member to arbitrarily lock or erase devices, remotely.
If you're using iTunes Match you might want to post this question over in the iTunes match forum:https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_match. They may be able to help you over there.

My itunes account information is correct. However, when I try to make a purchase using my ipod touch, the old account name shows up. How do I correct this?
Launch iTunes on your computer.
From the menu bar click Store / View My Account
Click the Edit button next to: Edit Payment Information
You can edit your billing information there. -

Making purchases
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer. As the family organizer, any receipts generated by the transaction will be sent to you. Learn more about how iTunes Store purchases are billed.

After installing three software updates simultaneously (Safari 7.1.3, RemoteDesktop Client 3.8.2, v. 1.1, and Security Update 2015-001) my MacBook Pro always requests the iCloud password on startup. Clicking "Cancel" allows me to work normally, but actually entering the password sends me into a a "password request loop", which I can always end by hitting "Cancel", so I am still always able to work. It's annoying, but not disastrous. I see a few people here =have the same problem, but it doesn't seem to be common. Anyone know what's up with that? My instinct tells me to reinstall 10.9.5 using the combo updater, but that would leave me with the same software updates to install as the combo updater has not been refreshed since September 2014.
Things I have tried with no success:
1) Resetting the Keychain to a new blank login keychain.
2) Disabling third-party login items
3) Switching off syncing of "Back To My Mac" and "Find My Mac" in iCloud preferencesI have had a similar problem with iCloud, iMessage & Face Time since installing 2 step verification. It started with my Apple id being refused for logging into Face Time, but then I was asked to log in to iCloud and my password was refused for that. I then had to change my Apple id and next time I was asked to log in to iCloud my Apple id was accepted a s a genuine Apple id but was not a valid iCloud account! I was subsequently forced several times into setting app-specific password for Face Time, iCloud and iMessage. However, I was being asked for my Apple id to log in to those apps (which was refused) , not the app-specific password!. After going round in circles repeatedly re-setting passwords I eventually switched off 2 step verification and it all stopped. I would like to have 2-step verification for my security, but I am not prepared to have all that hassle again.
