Icloud password problem

forgot my apple id password and reset it via email.  I now need to restore my ipad.  When I go to do this it asks me to turn off "find my ipad" in icloud.  When I go to do this it asks me for my icloud password.  I put in my new password and it will not accept it.  I cannot remember the old password.  What can I do to turn off the "find my ipad" facility withot having the password?

Hey benholly,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you are not able to sign into iCloud.com. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • Ever since i forgot my apple id password and changed to a new one, I am continually being asked to enter my iCloud password. It then says that this mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with "my username". nothing I do in in preferences helps.

You have to sign out completely in System Preference>iCloud (click 'Sign out') on a Mac, or Settings>iCloud on an iOS device (click 'Delete account' - this will not delete the account from the server). Then sign in with the new password.
Your iCloud data will disappear from your Mac or device when you sign out but will reappear when you sign back in.

  • I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep.

I have a password problem. After importing data and settings from one MacBook Pro to a new one, I have to put my iCloud password in when re-starting the new computer, but the password from the old computer in when waking the computer from sleep. I want to use my iCloud password on both computers consistently. How can I fix this?

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:
iCloud- Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID, verify the changes, enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone".
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, verify it once again, delete the iCloud account from your device and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • ICloud email account password problems

After initial password and login problems my iCloud email account now works fine in most cases.
When I create an email account on a mobile phone however...
Sadly my company phone is a Windows Mobile Device, and it finds all the right info, I add the username and password correctly, but a 'wrong password' message displays after it tries to synchronise mail. Any ideas anyone?

I have to verify my iCloud password every day through forgot.com using the memorable questions. I updated my phone to the latest IOS and I am using Mavericks on the Mac - other than that nothing has changed. • Icloud and gmail password problem

I can't log into icloud or any of the programs on my mac with icloud password or gmail password.
    Can anybody help me, please?

I am new to 1Phone.  Last night my phone was working fine with my Gmail account last night, but, today I am getting a password error.  I have logged in using my computer to veerify the password and it works fine.  I logged in using Safari and it worked fine there also.  I cant figure this out.  I am not tech saavy and I don't understand the "two step authentication" stuff.  Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I have updated my iPhone4 to the new iOS5.

  • ICloud Password reset Problem

I reset the iCloud password from my computer. My iPad showed that it was unable to access the account from the lock screen. Pressing either of the two choices, "ignore" or "settings" had no result and the iPad remained locked. How do I get past this to open the iPad and get to settings in order to change the password on the device?

  • ICloud password and backup problem

    iPad Air
    8.2 iOS
Repeatedly asking for iCloud password. No pattern, just constantly.
I can verify the password by logging into iCloud itself, so I know the password is valid.
Also unable to run a backup.
If I sign out of iCloud (like it has been suggested elsewhere in this support group), delete at all prompts and sign back in -- that only means it deletes what is on the iPad itself, and iCloud will repopulate with all the deleted info (like photos) once I sign back in -- correct? Hitting delete is sort of scary, right?

Okay. signed out of iCloud. fixed the constant request for password, but now back up doesn't work because I suddenly need more room. It was fine 2 days ago before this all started and I haven't added anything to make it too large. What the heck?

  • Problem logging into my iMac after changing iCloud password

I changed my iCloud password and now can't login with the new password on my iMac but it's working on my MacBook Pro.  I'm using the iCloud password option instead of a local password.  How do I get the iMac to see that it's changed?  I can still log in with my old iCloud password.  I've rebooted and I've signed out and back into iCloud but it still isn't picking up the password change.
    Thank you

So, being the impatient tech guy I am I figured it out.
    1) Sign out of iCloud in System Preferences
    2) When prompted create a local password
    3) Log back into iCloud with the correct password
    4) Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups and select your user account
    5) Click Change Password
    6) Select the option to use your iCloud password
    7) Enter your current local password and your current iCloud password
    Done!
It's now working correctly for me.  I'm still not sure why it never automatically synced but I'm not going to go digging that one up.

  • IOs 8.1 Mail app keeps asking for iCloud password

Since the update to iOs 8.1 i have a problem with my mailbox.
Every time i want to create a new mail, it asks me for my iCloud password.
This happens on my iPhone (6) and iPad (Air) while im in my iCloud inbox, Gmail inbox, or just the general overview.
Whenever i press the create new mail icon it will ask for my iCloud password.
    - When i give the iCloud password (correct one) it wont ask for it again in the next 15 mins
    - When i dont give the iCloud password (cancel) i can just send mails but it will ask for the password whenever i create a new mail.
    What i did:
    - Remove iCloud account > reboot > Add iCloud account > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove Keychain  > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove iCloud photo's > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove iCloud mail > still asks for the iCloud password.
    - Remove iCloud > solves the problem but i dont want to remove iCloud
    - Disabled all iCloud options, (mail, contacts, etc) > didnt solve the problem
    - Disabled 2 step verification > didnt solve the problem
Everytime i want to create a new mail, u see the phone/pad use the "syncing icon" 3x 5 seconds, maybe a link here?
Anyone else with any ideas that i can try?

That's interesting that it didn't start to happen after a while on your work iPad. I just tried my iPad this evening and I'm getting the same iCloud password popup message when I try to create a new mail or enable "Contacts Only' in Airdrop.
I still think it's a problem with our iCloud accounts. Some flag in the system isn't set or something for some reason. I don't even have mail switched on in my iCloud account so there is no valid reason why Mail.app would try and authenticate to iCloud just because we create a new email.
Signing out of iCloud fixes the issue for me (not that it's a valid long term solution) so that points the finger directly at a setting on my server side iCloud account I think.
