ICloud Photos  shows different counts in different devices

Hi,
I am using iCloud Photos on the following devices:
1. iPhone 5
2. iPad
3. Apple TV
4. PC
The issue is I see  1 and 2  aboveshows a count of 587 while 3 and 4 shows a count of 283 onlly.
How are these counts being calculated and is it normal to be different across my devices?
My understanding was that since photos are in a, so-called "cloud", the counts should ideally be the same as all these four devices look up to the cloud to get the photos.
Can some please advise if I need to do any step to sync up the countd across all my devices?
Thanks in advance,
Ray

That's perfectly normal.
Photo stream on each device will only start adding photos from when photo stream is enabled, it will then only keep them in the cloud for 30 days. If you enable photo stream on a device later than on another any photos added to the first device that are over 30 days old won't be added to the second device.

  • Will my iCloud photos fill up my new iOS device too?

Hi. I'm new to this so I hope I make my question clear. I have had an iPod touch 5th generation since Christmas 2012. Since then, I have been sent requests to join many photo streams from my family and friends. Because of this, my iCloud is now extremely close to full, meaning that soon I won't be able to receive any more photos. Today, I am getting an iPad mini, due to my iPod being no longer sufficient for my needs. I want my iPad to be created with my same Apple ID, and have access to my app/song/book purchases. Firstly - can I do this and choose what copies over, or will the contents of my iPod and iPad have to be exactly the same? I want the option to copy my purchases over if I want. (My iPod is full so I don't want to copy everything and fill up my iPad immediately, too (they are both the same amount of storage). Secondly - if I sign into my new iPad with the same Apple ID that I used for my iPod, will the contents of iCloud have to copy over too? My ideal for this situation is to have the choice to copy content from my iPod across, and not be in the situation of "it's all or nothing". I hope this makes sense and would really appreciate some quick responses. Thanks for reading.

  • Photos show in a different order/sequence when viewed on my Centro than on my desktop???

Hello, I know this may sound trivial but it is driving me nuts!  My photos show up in a different sequence when I view them on my handheld (Centro smartphone) than they do on my Palm Desktop Media platform.  I cannot figure out why they do not match up.  I have HotSync-ed a million times.  I sorted all of my photos via the desktop media software so that they are in chronological order.  Then I HotSync and view the albums on my phone (Centro) and none of them are in the order they are supposed to be in.  (If this helps at all... All of the photos are stored on my microSDHD card, not directly on my phone's memory - too many for that.) Any ideas why the HotSync is not correlating them to the order they are in on my desktop?  Am I going to have to manually sort them on my phone also, even though I already did this on the desktop software??  Please tell me there is an easier way - I have LOTS of pictures.  LOL! Thank you!!  ~ Kimmy

12:13am ***  OH NO!!  I am totally going to cry right now. I was trying to get the stupid thing to sync correctly.  So, I deleted the picture albums off my phone.  I left them on my desktop, since they were organized as they should be.  I did a hotsync and it erased the photos from the desktop and didn't put them on my phone. So, basically I lost a million pictures.  I double checked my settings and everything is set to "syncronize" - SO WOULDN'T THAT MEAN IT WOULD SYNCRONIZE BOTH????  Not let the phone override the desktop??  I am beyond upset.  If anyone can lend some help I cannot tell you how grateful I would be.  :*(

Hi..  Syncronize means that hotsync looks at both palm desktop and the device and looks for any changes and moves those changes to the opposite side to make them identical.  Thus it saw you deleted all pics on the device and sees it as you no longer need any of the pictures which were deleted thus it makes the palm desktop match the device by deleting them.  If you had set the media conduits to desktop over writes handheld it would have done what you wanted.  Hope you can find them..

If deleting a photo from any device deletes it from the iCloud Photo Library, "library" may not be the right word to describe its function. Surprised nobody else has commented on this. Am I the only one who got this wrong?
Your iCloud Photo Library is in iCloud, and the main purpose is to sync and update it across all your devices. Any change you do, including deleting, will sync across all devices syncing with iCloud Photo Library.
If you want to save space on your mobile devices use the "Optimize Storage" option. Then you will store only optimized thumbnails on your devices and keep the full resolution versions in iCloud.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/photos/
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before

  • Does iCloud Photo Library syncronise ALBUMS across devices?

It is not clear whether the iCloud Photo Library synchronises ALBUMS across iOS devices. NOT just photos - the Photo Stream does that but I have several dozen albums on one iPad and I want the to be recreated on another iOS devices automatically.
Can anyone actually answer this question? It seems simple enough.
Here is what I want to happen after configuring the system:-
The existing albums on iPad A appear on iPad B automatically.
Changes to an album on either A or B are reflected on the other device.
A new album created on either device appears on the other device.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks
    ELKAY

Ok. At last I have it. And as far as I can tell my problem can't be solved automatically
As far as I can tel. most existing Albums (which aren't in the iCloud) don't get re-created or synchronised. All albums on your iPad will be deleted (although oddly for me, there are three out of 70 that seem to have been kept).
Turning on iCloud Photo Library turns it on for all devices that have the same Apple ID, and that are  on a compatible version of the iOS. Any new album that is created on any device that is part of the iCloud photo library will be synced to other devices.
My approach has been to disconnect one of my iPads from the network which has all my albums and I will work through one album at a time recreating it and adding the selected photos to the album.
Much remains unclear (such as what happens to edits made on a iPad) and for a company whose story is all about ease of use, this has been a very opaque and nerve-racking experience - strating with the hair-raising message when you turn it on about deleting photos from iTunes. Before getting into the iCloud 'dream' I backed up all my photos from all devices to DropBox and from there to a USD drive.
The Photo-stream is another problem - no proper explanation of anything from the vendor - who knows where the images actually reside, and when they will disappear!
My next move is to look at Picasa as an alternative to this half-baked Apple vision.

  • Deleting Photos from Device with iCloud Photo Library

How do I delete photos locally from my device when I'm using iCloud photo library? Whether I'm deleting from the Photos tab or Albums > All Photos, I see the same "this photo will be deleted from iCloud photo library on all devices" message. How can I delete the photo from my device, but keep it in the iCloud photo library? Currently, my photos tab and all photos album are exactly the same... whats the difference between these features? Thanks!

iCloud Photo Library is currently only for iOS devices, but it disables syncing with the Mac. It is simply not yet ready.
iCloud Photo Library is still a beta version. (See: iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ) The Mac part has not yet been released, but will be available early next year. We do not know yet, what the Mac part of iCloud Photo Library will be like. The Photos.app for Mac will be able to upload to iCloud Photo Library.  If you simply wait till early next year, it will be the easiest transit. Then you will be able to migrate iPhoto Libraries and Aperture Libraries to Photos and store the photos in iCloud.
Right now, if you enable iCloud Photo Library Beta on your mobile devices, the usual ways to upload photos from your Mac will be disabled. It will no longer deposable to sync photos with iTunes, and you cannot upload using My Photo Stream.
To upload photos from the Mac to iCloud Photo Library, mail the photos, put them in your DropBox, or use the uploader on the beta.cloud page (in the photos beta app):  https://beta.icloud.com

  • ICloud Photo Library won't sync all photos

I've enabled iCloud Photo Library on my Macs & iOS devices... and have noticed that all my photos are not being sync'ed to iCloud... and the ones in iCloud are not being sync'ed to all my devices. (I'm running Mac OS X 10.10.3 on the Macs and iOS 8.3 on the iPad/iPhone.)
In my master Library on my iMac, I have 20,233 Photos and 344 Videos. According to the Photos app, all have been uploaded to iCloud.
However, according to iCloud - only about half of those photos are uploaded.
(I have plenty of storage on iCloud... I have paid for 200GB and am only using about 40GB.)
On my Macbook - I started the Photos app with an empty photo library, and then turned on iCloud Photo Library. On that computer, it reports a different number of photos - 9,923 photos. And, it too is supposedly "updated completely"
When I browse the Photos on an iOS device, it's about the same as the MacBook - but not exactly.
Anyone have any ideas here? I would expect all the photos from the iMac to show up on all devices.
Is there a log file somewhere I can examine to understand what is being uploaded and what isn't?
    Thanks!

I managed to fix the problem articulated above. I think only photos that are copied into your Photos Library can be synced via iCloud. And, the approximately ~10,000 photos missing from iCloud were not in my Library.
On the iMac Photos Library, I selected all the photos (Cmd-A) and choose File->Consolidate from the menu... and this popup emerges:
I clicked "Copy" which apparently copies all the original images from my Pictures folder into the iCloud Library itself. Once this was done ... it uploaded missing files. Now - on all my devices I see the exact same number of photos and videos.

  • How to delete "iCloud Photos" album?

I have an album on my iphone called "iCloud photos", which is different than the photostreaming album. I tried everything to delete that "iCloud Photos" album from my iPhone but I can't. Any suggestions?

This album may have synced to your iPad from your computer. Try connecting your device to iTunes on your computer, clicking on the Photos tab, and check to see if a folder named “iCloud Photos” is being synced to your device.
If so, you can uncheck this folder and re-sync to eliminate it.

  • IPhone photos app crashing consistently with large iCloud photo library beta - how can I completely remove?

Hi - I turned on the iCloud photo library beta on my phone weeks ago.  Worked fine with no issues.  Then the Yosemite OS X beta 10.10.3 was released with the new Photos app.  Once i loaded that new app, it converted my Aperture library and began to upload around 75,000 photos.
My iPhone almost immediately became sluggish (I assumed because it was downloading the pictures) and then eventually started crashing every time I go into the app (after a few seconds).  I assumed it was because it showed 75,000 images in my Cameral Roll/Moments so I turned of the iCloud photo library beta.  It prompted to be certain I was ok with deleting the images, which I said OK to.  But it still shows 75,000 images in the camera roll and anything I tried to do with any photo has become completely unusable (generally just crashing each time).
Did I miss a step in the process?
    Is this just me?
I'm trying to backup my iPhone but it keeps erroring out with the message "iTunes could not back up the iPhone "name" because the iPhone disconnected".  Otherwise I would just recreate .  Please help

It can free up some storage but it doesn't work like Dropbox. See the following quotes from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
I personally don't use iCloud Photo Library as it is still beta. Additionally, I have a Mac computer and there is not yet a Mac Photos app that is compatible.
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
To turn on Optimize [device] Storage on your device, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select Optimize [device] Storage. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.
How does iCloud delete photos and videos from iCloud Photo Library?
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album. Photos are backed up on our servers for up to 30 days after they're deleted from the Photos app. If you need to recover these photos during that time, contact Apple Support.

  • HT6378 How to upload iPhoto library into iCloud Photo library?

    Hi,
I am having a MBP mid 2012 w/ Yosemite along w/ iPhone and iPad, all running 8.1. After having upgraded all devices to latest version, I wonder how do you get now the Mac iPhoto library into iCloud Photo library? iCloud Photo Library setting has been enabled on all devices.
On the iCloud, All Photos folder just shows a fraction of what's on my Mac iPhoto library, probably the most recent pictures I have taken and there's no sign of any automatic uploading as suggested by all Apple Ads...
    Thanks
    S

After having upgraded all devices to latest version, I wonder how do you get now the Mac iPhoto library into iCloud Photo library? iCloud Photo Library setting has been enabled on all devices.
iPhoto on your Mac is not supposed to work with iCloud Photo Library. The new "Photos" app for the mac will be able to do it. The release of this app  has been announced for "Early next year".
For now, only your mobile devices can upload to iCloud Photo Library.  So you have to upload your photos to the mobile devices to get them into iCloud Photo Library Beta.
That is not easy, because you cannot upload from your iPhoto library to your iOS 8 devices using iTunes with  iCloud Photo Library Beta enabled on the device. It will disable syncing photos with iTunes. As long as you are using  iCloud Photo Library Beta, mail the Photos to your devices or upload using Photo Stream.

You will need to contact the previous owner of the iPhone in order to change the Apple ID.

I have a related question. In order to same space on my iPhone is there a way to upload the photos to the iCloud and then delete them from my iPhone.

The way to keep the photos from downloading to your wife's phone would be for her to go to Settings > iCloud > Photos > and turn off iCloud Photo Library. If that isn't an option, the other option would be for her to have her own Apple ID ( and possibly explore the new family sharing options https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/ )
Regarding the "related question" see the quotes below from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album.
If you want to reduce the space used by photos on your phone, rather than deleting them see the following:

  • Share iCloud Photo Library between two iCloud Accounts

I'm hoping someone can think of a creative solution to a problem I've encountered after upgrading to the latest OS on our Apple devices. Here is our specific use case:
Prior to iOS 8/OS X Yosemite, this was my configuration
Each Device (iPhone, iPod, iPad, Mac) was configured as such:
Primary iCloud Account: shared family account - [email protected] iPhone, calendar, reminders, Photostream enabled
Secondary iCloud Account: individual unique account - [email protected], calendar, reminders, mail enabled
This allows each user to have their own content under their unique iCloud account that was a secondary account on each device, but still have access to all of the shared services setup under the common Primary iCloud account on each device.
Most importantly, Photostream allowed EVERY photo on EVERY device to be automatically shared with every other device.
    Post iOS 8/OS X Yosemite:
Apple has provided support for most of what was accomplished with the common shared iCloud account via Family Sharing, and iCloud Photo Gallery is a fantastic service.
BUT, due to Continuity and Hand-Off relying on the primary iCloud account, there is no way to share one iCloud Photo Gallery account across multiple users. The only way I've found to do that is to maintain a common primary iCloud account on each device that handles the iCloud Photo Gallery syncing, but then every device will respond to Hand-off and Continuity actions, which is obviously not ideal.
To recap, I want individual iCloud accounts on every device per user so that Handoff and Continuity work correctly, BUT I want one common iCloud Photo Gallery across all accounts so that every picture is shared with every device without having to manually add them to a shared album.
Am I missing something with the configuration, or is there a way to "trick" iCloud to work the way I want?

For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Is there a way to use iCloud Photo Library WITHOUT syncing?

The idea I had of iCloud Photo Library was that I could upload my pictures to it and access them from all my devices WITHOUT having to sync them.
At the end of every month, I move all the photos from my phone to my computer. It helps me save space and keep things tidy. With iCloud Library, I want to access all my photos, but it looks like I must sync them through iCloud, and then to save space in my phone, I have to select "optimise space for iPhone". Is there any way to use iCloud Photo Library as a mere cloud storage? I don't want to keep photos on my phone, neither full resolution or "optimised" ones. I want to put them on iCloud, and when I need them, then I want my phone to download them.
I realise I could use other cloud storage providers for this, but I have always liked Apple's integration with their own services, so if possible, I would like to use iCloud Photo Library without syncing to my devices. Just keep my stuff in iCloud, and when I tap it, download it.

    www.icloud.com.
Doesn't work well in IE8 (9 I would think is ok), but is fine in the current version of Chrome.
