ICloud/PhotoStream and iPhoto Events

I was surprised to find that Photo Stream via iCloud doesn't sync Events or Albums from iPhoto. With Mobile Me Gallery It was possible to publish individual Events and Albums.  Is there a way to configure Photo Stream to upload Events and Album?  The way it works now I have to regroup the photos on my iOS device?

If I do so, will I be able to see all my MacBook iPhoto progress (places, faces, events, etc) on the iPad app ?
just some notes in addition to Ralphs answer: Your iPad is very useful to browse and show off your photos, i.e. the Retina iPad. You can sync to the iPad via iTunes or using the Photo Stream or a shared Photo Stream.  But if you can browse and store all your photos on the iPad, will depend on the available storage on your iPad. Using iTunes you can sync events, albums, faces stacks, places stacks to your iPad. Not many metadata tags will transfer however.
See the iPhoto help on what iPhoto can actually do:

My photos are syncing from my iPhone to the iCloud PhotoStream and to our iPad, but they are no longer syncing to our home computer (Microsoft operating system, not Apple).   Why would this happen and how can I get it resolved?  I have since tried to remove and reinstall the iCloud application in my computer's control panel.  I have verified that I am using the latest Apple operating system and the latest iTunes.  I have reset my photo stream.  Not sure what else to try...   I was also having an issue with my calendar where it would sync from my computer to my iPhone but not vice versa.  Somehow in all the resetting that's resolved, but the photo issue is not.   Again - photos are going into the photostream, but not wirelessly being put into the file on my computer.

To change the iCloud ID on your device you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone when prompted, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.

  • Aperture and iPhoto Events

Just wondering if I do decide to switch to Aperture 3, how does it handle importing all my iPhoto events? Do they become "Projects" and behave the same way? I know the app just came out but any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

it freezes every time at the same place.
Suggests that there's a problem in the iPhoto Library at that place, no?
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • HT201386 iCloud photos and iPhoto on iMac

I want to use iCloud photos and sync my iMac iPhoto, with the albums etc. I tried creating an album on iPhone 6 which appears in iCloud photos but doesn't allow me to put photos into it.
Is it too soon as its only in beta
Any other ideas of how to get iPhoto albums into iCloud photo beta?

Hi Swandy.  I also had this problem.  I did two things which cured it - not sure if both are needed. Firstly, I created a new test file in Pages and saved it to my iCloud Drive. Then I quit all running programs and shut down my iMac.  Once I re-started, iCloud Drive was accessible through the Finder Sidebar and showed all my iCloud files. I was then able to move by dragging and delete files. If (like me) you get 'unable to move' messages just open the file and resolve by clicking which version you want to keep. Hope that helps. Peter.

  • Photostream and iphoto

I can't seem to get Iphoto hooked up, keeps asking me for a MobilMe account which I never activated.

1.) So if I use Photostream with iPhoto it will just make the last imported photos available through iCloud?
2.) Is there a way to use my iPad to access photos in iPhoto over my WiFi network?
    Thanks.

  • Photostream and iPhoto automatic download?

    Apple Pals:
I have iPhoto set up to download my photostream from my iPhone camera. It also duplicates the photos and puts them in an event. Good. Now, the question is, does anybody know if the photos are downloaded even if iPhoto is not run for months?

It will download if the Mac is running and connected to the internet. iPhoto doesn't need to be running.

  • Where did the iPhoto 10 iCloud Photostream come from and how do I get rid of it?

I just updated my MacBook Air to mavericks.  I have an iPad and iphone as well just updated to ios7.  My Mac updated iPhoto as well.  Now when I opened iPhoto I got my flickr and Facebook integrated folders in the left pane plus an iCloud photostream.
I didn't have that before and it has 287 pictures pulled from many devices but I didn't set that up.  I only had/have a private photostream with a particular name and about 10 pics in it.  this new one is just called iCloud photostream and it has 287 pics of which some I know I took with my iPad and others with my iphone.  I of course sync both devices with my Mac so this pics are in my iPhoto library as well.

  • I updated to OS X Mavericks and iPhoto 11 and my photos for the last 2 month disappeared.  I have a Mac Mini.

On 10/25/2013 OS X on my Mac mini was updated to Mavericks and iPhoto was updated to iPhoto 11.  Since then the photos in iPhoto from the last 2 months have disappeared.  Has anyone had a similar complaint?  Thank you.  harck.

Since then the photos in iPhoto from the last 2 months have disappeared.
Just a hunch - the "last two month" sounds like an photo stream sync problem.
How did you import the photos from the last two month? Were they in the Photo Stream? Then enable your Photo Stream again in the Sytem Preferences iCloud pane  and iPhoto Preferences iCloud tab. This option might have been disabled. If you did not download your recent photos automatically from from the stream, the photo stram must be disabled to show them.
Also, your "last import" event might be empty after the upgrade of the library. Try to sort your events differently, to bring the last event to the top of the list in "Events" view.

  • Photostream, iCloud Photo Sharing, iPhoto, my phone, and use cases all around

I have a fre pretty basic use case questions about Photostream.
I take a lot of pictures on my iPhone. They magically appear in iPhoto on my Mac. I'm told that by having the import feature in iPhoto turned on, those photos will stay in iPhoto on my iMac forever - or at least after I pass the 30 days/1,000 most recent photos limits.
So that leaves me to ask: what am I supposed to do with the photos on my phone? Just leave them there to eat up storage? Or delete them at some point? Delete all the photos on my phone after I import those that Photostream hadn't already captured? Is there any benefit to importing a duplicate photo if I have Photostream importing turned on? And are they truly, really duplicate photos? Are the iPhone photos in my Photostream duplicated on my phone until they fall out of Photostream? Are iPhone photos duplicated if they're in a shared stream?
I just don't know what I should do with the photos on my iPhone once they're on my iMac, and I'm not truly confident that they're on my iMac for good or that they're truly the same file as the original.

on the mac/iphoto, move photos in the Photo stream group into some other album.
foatbttpo1567,In iPhoto on a mac you need to download the photos to an event - not an album. An album would only reference them in the photo stream, but not store the photos in the iPhoto library. Turning on "Automatic Import", as Old Toad suggested, will do that and create monthly events.
I'm told that by having the import feature in iPhoto turned on, those photos will stay in iPhoto on my iMac forever - or at least after I pass the 30 days/1,000 most recent photos limits.
The 30 days/1000 photos limit applies to the temporary storage in iCloud - the time you have to grab them and to import them. Once they are in an event, you have them safe.
So that leaves me to ask: what am I supposed to do with the photos on my phone? Just leave them there to eat up storage? Or delete them at some point? Delete all the photos on my phone after I import those that Photostream hadn't already captured?
Photo Stream is a handy feature for transmitting photos, but don't rely on it for permanent storage. If you ever have to reset your iPhone or reinstall your Mac, or to reset the photo stream, your photos from the stream may be gone. Keep always a copy of your photos either in the Camera roll on your phone or in iPhoto events on your mac, and make sure that these copies are regularly backed up.
As for the "truly duplicates" - Photo stream will send optimized versions to the devices, but to a mac the full original version. You may want to read the FAQ:  iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ

  • ICloud & Photostream: Not downloading or creating events on iPhoto

I asked this question in the iPhoto community, and was sent over here.  So here is the problem:
Photostream is not downloading photos to my mac. In iPhoto 11 version 9.4.2 (the latest) on my mac, the photos appear in the left nav bar under Photostream.  But when I go to events, there is an event called "November" with no photos in it. Running OSX 10.7.5 on my mac.  My iPhone is running iOS 6.0.1.  All Photostream sharing options on all devices are ON, and the automatic import box is checked.
The first suggestion offered was that I do a search for Photostream in iPhoto and see if the latest photostream showed up.  It did not.  The second suggestion was to turn off photostream in iPhoto, log out of iCloud, log back in again, let the photostream download to my mac and see what happened.  I did all that with the same results, i.e., there is no November event.  The photos won't download.  Both my iphone and my mac are on the same wireless network and both are working fine except for this.  Here are screenshots of the problem:
This is a display of the "photostream" feed under the RECENT category in iPhoto.  Note the little wireless icon in the bottom left corner of each photo.
Below is a display in iPhoto of the Nov. 2012 Photo Stream.  As you can see, nada.  Why won't the Photo Stream download to iPhoto?  Thank you!

    Hello tallbubba
Check in System Preferences > iCloud to ensure that Photo Stream is turned on to start the import process of importing the photos.

Thanks for responding. When I open the email and click on Subscribe to this Photo Stream, this is the message I get:
To subscribe to Pamela Mccormack’s “Baltimore Zoo” photo stream on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac, open your invitation in the Mail app, and click the Subscribe button in the message.
To subscribe you need to be signed in to iCloud on:
an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6 or later, or
a Mac with OS X 10.8.2 or later and iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later

  • Using iPhoto, PhotoStream and iCloud

I have my own Apple ID and my husband has his own - he and I both have iPads, and iPhones and iCloud accounts = separately.  He had a bunch of photos on his camera which I took off and which I wanted to be in HIS  photostream = not mine.  So I created an iPhoto Library [on my computer] for him, I went into preferences and set it up so HIS apple id and icloud account was the only one listed and my own name or id is not involved at all.
Then I imported into the iPhoto [his] the photos and set the Photostream to include them...went away and now it looks like the photostream not only has HIS 400 photos but also my 3000 photos as well = from my photostream [I do NOT like Photostream but am trying to live with it] -
not sure why PS of my stuff ended up downloading to his PS -- any ideas or suggestions of why???  And how do I fix it???

iPhoto is linked to the iCloud account on your computer. I must assume that in order to use your iPhoto to add photos to his photo stream, you must have logged into his iCloud account on your computer. At which point any photos in photo stream in iPhoto on the computer became his photo stream and not yours.
If you wish to use iPhoto in conjunction with his photo stream, you need to create a second user account on the computer for him. In the second user account you need to log into his iCloud account and then photo stream within iPhoto will work with his photo stream on his iOS devices. Photo stream in iPhoto in your user account will continue to work with photo stream on your iOS devices.

  • IPhoto, iCloud Photos, QTKitServer-iPhoto and QTKitServer-Aperture all hanging

iMac mid-2011, 8 GB RAM, 1TB Internal Hard Drive, Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9, iPhoto 5, Aperture 3.5
My iPhoto library, iCloud photos and some Mac OS X Mavericks file called QTKitServer-iPhoto and QTKitServer-Aperture keep hanging and not responding. Tried repairing permissions and repairing iPhoto library multiple times. Tried re-downloading Mavericks and that did not fix it. Called Apple Support. They said they could not help me beyond what I had already tried (Apple Online Support has really gone downhill since the last time I called) and to go to my local Apple retail store to see a Genius.
After running hardware tests, the Genius told me that my iPhoto library was too large and that was what was causing iPhoto and iCloud photos to hang. Even though he acknowledged that the QTKitServer operating system file is not supposed to hang. The Genius put in an additional 8 Mb memory to see if adding more memory would help (apparantly iPhoto is supposed to give back some memory when you close it and it does not). So Apple is not flushing memory when an App is closed. Apple's apparent solution is to add more memory that you have to purchase. However, the same three files kept not responding even with the additional memory. So I passed on the additional memory until I get the iPhoto problem solved. He also said my external hard drive, a WD 2TB hard drive that I bought from the same Apple retail store two or three years ago, looked like it was failing because there were lots of disk I/O errors in the system log, even though the drive appears to work fine and disk utility reported no problems when I ran Verify Disk on the external WD drive two days ago. I do not use this drive hardly at all (I backup my iMac to my Time Capsule), exept to keep a backup copy of my iPhoto library and Documents folder, and it has lots of original pictures that are not in my existing iPhoto library. I copied my iPhoto library and Documents folder to it last night and they seemed to copy fine.
So if my iPhoto library is really too big, and that is what the issue is, my problem is that there is no apparent way to break up my existing iPhoto Library into multiple small iPhoto libraries, without losing all of my keywords, titles, photo edits, event names, album names, folders and projects etc. The last time I tried breaking up my iPhoto library into smaller iPhoto libraries, even though I told iPhoto to export  keywords and titles, it did not. And the Genius did not know if it would work now or not.
My question is to those of you who have large iPhoto libraries and are using Mac OS X Mavericks and iCloud Photos - how big are your iPhoto libraries? What is too big? Does anyone have an iPhoto library the size of mine that is working fine (who is also using Mac OS X Mavericks and iCloud)? When I talked to Apple online support, they said big iPhoto libraries are 100,000 photos and up. The Genius said anything over 1,000 is big. That's quite a spread. Currently I have 24,000 photos, most of which have been edited in some way or another, and about 1/2 of which have new titles, mulitple keywords assigned, faces and places assigned, etc., since I imported the original master photos. The Genius told me to duplicate my existing iPhoto library, create a new iPhoto library, import all of the folders in the iPhoto database except the Masters folder, and see if iPhoto still hung. If it did, he said it was all the data attached to the photos that is the problem, in which case I would need to create another new iPhoto library and import only the Masters file (images only). I think if I import only the Masters from my existing library, I will lose not only all of my keywords and titles, but also all of my photo edits, event names, album names, folder names, projects etc.
So I wasted an entire afternoon at the Apple retail store, only to buy a new external hard drive (that I may not even need), was told to buy more memory (that did not solve the problem - I passed on that), and I am no further ahead than I was when I went in. I need to know if there is any way that I can break up my iPhoto library into smaller libraries and retain all of the metadata and photo edits?
Finally, when I got home, I discovered that my husband with whom I had shared some of my photo streams, still had photos showing in shared photo streams that I had removed from iCloud two days ago. It removed them on my iMac - the place where those streams originated, but apparently left the thumbnails in the shared photo streams of everyone that I had shared the photos with. As soon as I clicked on an actual photo on my husband's iMac, the photo suddenly vanished and all the photo thumbnails in the stream did too. But the empty shared photo stream still remained on my husband's iMac and he had to physically say "Unsubscribe" to get it to go away. So something is not working right with iCloud photos, which is no doubt why iCloud photos is one of the files that keeps not responding.
Then, when I set up my iMac again this evening, and looked at iCloud on my iMac, all of my photo streams (not just the four that I had removed two days ago) were gone! And when I went into Aperture, the photo streams were all there, but with zero photos in them. Now last night when I boxed up my iMac to take to Apple, those photo streams were all there and they all had photos in them. So where did they go? And why, when you are the originator of a photo stream, and you tell iCloud to remove the photo stream, it says that it does but it leaves remnants of it with the other people you have shared it with? It seems to me that iPhoto, iCloud, and the fact that Apple is not flushing memory when an app closes is the problem with my iMac, not the size of my iPhoto library, or my external hard drive, or the fact that 8Gb of memory is apparently no longer enough memory for decent response with Mavericks (which I thought was designed to help solve some of the memory issues that OS X has).
I need help and help is apparently nowhere to be found at Apple.
Is there anyone out there who can help me?

If you're using iPhoto 5 as you say then, yes, 24k photos is heading close to the Limit of 25k. iPhoto 6 is good for 250,000 images, iPhoto 11 is good for 1,000,000.
I'm going to guess that's a typo and that you have iPhoto 9.5.
I've simply never heard of "too many photos" causing the problem you describe. You don't need more memory. You don't need to break up the Library. "Flushing Memory" is a non-isssue. One of the big improvements in 10.9 is in memory management.
There are a couple of ways to break up a Library while preserving everything. It's dead easy with Aperture - export projects as Library - you can do it with iPhoto simply by duplicating the Library and deleting from the two libraries or use iPhoto Library Manager.
But, as I say, 24k is a small Library. My main library is more than twice the size of that.
Are Aperture and iPhoto using the same Library?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • How can I view my photos in "Events" like in iPhoto? How can I create events?  I have 55,000 photos and 1700 events so the only way I can possibly manage my photos is using events that are one slide in size.

I have 55,000 images organized into about 1700 events. The only reasonable way to view my library is using events in iPhoto where each event has one image That still leaves 1700 images to sort through but that is a lot easier than 55,000 images.  In the side bar is a folder with "iPhoto Events" but those views still show all of the slides.  How can I create events and view my photos as events as in iPhoto?  Events are critical for large libraries and has been my primary way to sort images.
    Thanks!

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.
