ICloud preference pane won't launch

The skinny:
MacBook Air (circa 2011) running OS X 10.7.5 – can not get iCloud preference pane to launch; results in endless spinning beach ball and eventual forced quit. Also notice that Mail preferences hangs (this, after trying to access the Accounts tab). Both System Pref. and Mail will launch and run after forced quit, but will again hang.
Everything seems to function o.k., but I notice that my iCal events are not syncing to iPhone, iPad, or other laptop (MacBook Pro running 10.8). Haven't changed settings on MacBook Air.
Any leads welcome!

One thought that I have is that you need to repair your "login Keychain" using the Keychain Access application (/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access).
If you don't know, the Mac "Keychain" is responsible for securely storing all sorts of credentials and passwords for you such as your iCloud login, Mail accounts, and WiFi passwords to name a few.  It does this behind the scenes on your behalf so that you don't need to reenter your passwords ever time you open Mail for example.  If, for some reason your login keychain becomes corrupted, then connections and logins to all sorts of things stop working.
Apple provides an easy way to check your keychain for corruption and repair it if necessary.  It's called Keychain First Aid.  Try this:
Open "Applications "> "Utilities" > "Keychain Access"
Click the "Keychain Access" menu > "Keychain First Aid"
Type in your password
Select the "Repair" toggle option
Click the "Start" button
When it's done, note the result.  If it ends with:  "No problems found ... Verification completed" then it didn't find any problems.  If is says otherwise, then post back here.  If is says that it repaired anything, then try the preference panes again and see if there is any improvement.

How do I resolve this. My software is up to date 10,9,1
    Thanks Bruce

    I have a limilar problem.
I suspect it started after the recent notification from Apple that they are enabled 2 steps verification (i recently received this email from Apple "Two-step verification for Apple ID now requires app-specific passwords".)
I am unable to check either iCloud or Internet Accounts.
My Notes Application will crash unexpectedly too, I assume because of the same problem with iCloud.
    Help.
    I need my notes back.

  • Preferences error Could not load iCloud preference pane.

    Hello
    I have 3 problem.
Could not load Internet Accounts preference pane.
Could not load iCloud preference pane.
I also can't open the Mail application.
I already tried to log in as guest user, I can open everything in guest user. So guest user have no problem.
I also tried to log in in safe mode, nothing was working. So I guess I have problem with the admin user.
I also reinstall the operating system and nothing change.
    Please any help?
    Thank you.
    Hind.

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • "Could not load iCloud preference pane." after changing password

I am running a Mac Pro (Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite version 10.10.1.
I recently had to change my iTunes (& etc.) password on my iPhone, and since then every so often throughout the day this computer pops up a window saying "this Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem..." and says to open iCloud preferences to fix the problem. When I click on "iCloud Preferences" in the window or go to the system preferences to update the password, I get "Could not load iCloud preference pane." - If I go to the iternet accounts panel and click on iCloud, it wants me to log in, and when I do (with the new password) it says I'm already signed in and "this account already exists". (As an aside, none of the stuff seamlessly connecting the computer and iPhone has worked at all since I upgraded to Yosemite.)
Quite frankly, this is my work computer and I don't care if it's signed in to iCloud at all or if it talks to my phone, as long as my Adobe software works, but getting a popup window throughout the day (usually when I'm right in the middle of something finicky in Photoshop...) is rather annoying! Due to all the issues I'm having, I haven't even attempted to upgrade my laptop to Yosemite yet.
Any suggestions? Either to get everything working correctly, or to get rid of these pop-ups throughout the day? The thing I like about Macs is that they usually just work and stay out of the way, so these issues are perturbing.

    Same problem here.
Yesterday I deleted com.apple.systempreferences from User / Library and it seemed to solve the problem.
However today the problem is back and deleting that file no longer solves it.
This affects iCloud and Internet Accounts preference panes.

This is a shot in the dark, but try this:
log-in to your iCloud account with your Apple ID
    change your password
ensure your billing information is up-to-date
attempt to re-enable your Keychain (again)

  • ICloud Mail couldn't be disabled from the iCloud Preference Pane.

I want to disable iCloud Mail, but, from my system preferences I get this error message:
" iCloud Mail couldn’t be disabled from the iCloud Preference Pane. Open Mail and remove your iCloud account from Mail preferences."
When I open Mail preferences, there is no account for iCloud.
I was going to try to set one up and delete it, but while it set up, I still can't see it so I can't delete it.
    Please advise.

  • ICloud preferences pane crashes.

Color this "futile" but I cannot find a solution for this.  My iCloud Preferences pane crashes. I'm using 10.7.4, running my system preferences in 32-bit mode, deleted all the files/folders that match the search "icloud" in my Library folder, have no accounts in my Mail, Contacts and Calendars, and MobileMe has been blanked.  Oops: update!  Once I set preferences to run in 32-bit mode, I now see a drop-down "Could Not Load iCloud Preferences Pane". Anyone tried anything new?

    Andy,
I have the same problem and I think its because I have set it up the that my home folder resides on the server and is mapped to my laptop, which is the way I want to keep it. I'm having the same trouble with the internet accounts preferences also.
Did you make any progress resolving it?
    Geoff.

  • Could not load iCloud preference pane and could not load internet accounts preference pane

after a recent not so succesful time machine restore, and after turning internal hard drive and ssd on my macbook pro late 2008 into a fusion drive, I get these error messages in the system preference : could not load iCloud preference pane and could not load internet accounts preference pane. I noted that Mail, Calendar, notes etc all sync to my various device, but on my mac, I can't access the accounts feature. Can anyone help me resolve this issue ? I searched all over the net with no success...
    cheers !

iMac (Processor 3.2GHz, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3, 3TB HD) Running Mavericks (10.9.4), I have the exact same problem. Local Apple Store unable to help. Turned to my AppleCare Program. They say their techs have never come across this issue this was what was done:
Have downloaded & new copy of OS X  = same issue.
Deleted OS X Reinstalled OS X on blank drive - restored all my data from backup = now have no MS Office, no Adobe Photoshop Elements, no iWeb, no Parallels, no VMWare, no iPhoto in fact, nothing of "my" machine. (but problem is still there)
Advised to do an "Internet Restore" from good Backup (over 24 hours to complete); when complete, machine restarts = a circle with a cross diagonally through it and the spinning wheel. (It goes no further no matter how many times you reboot)
Now on my own, booted using "Command + R" to start in Recovery mode. Changed all permissions in Disk Utility. Rebooted. = my machine is back - all data intact and all programs there & working BUT problem persists.
I have now turned to Communities. Followed everything people said worked for them but in my case, after a reboot, I still cannot load iCloud OR Internet Accounts Preferences panes!!
If I add a calendar item on my iMac it will not sync with either my iPad or iPhone. If I add a calendar item on either my iPhone or my iPad that item will sync with the other device but will not sync to my iMac. The same is true for Contacts as well. Extremely annoying to have to type it in all the time. This is Apple for heavens sake and therefore it should work!!

  • System Preference Pane won't start! No ICAL sync or ICloud

    Hello Apple Community,
I've got a huge problem! I recogniced that my Ical didn' sync anymore with my Googlemail Calender. So I looked into my System Preferences and tried to access Internet Accounts or ICloud. In both cases I got an error message with error in the System Preferences : the System Preferences "Internetaccounts" could not be loaded. Same with Icloud. I tried to reinstall Maverics two times. Second Time after erasing the two Preference Panes and erases the caches.
    Nothing worked!
Maybe there is someone with the same issue and knows how to solve this.
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regard

  • Some system preferences panes won't open

I just installed Mountain Lionon my iMac. When I try to open the System Preferences panes for Notifications; Security & Privacy; iCloud; Mail, Contacts & Calendars; and Desktop & Screen Saver though, I get the message
To use the “[Name of pane]” preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen.
Selecting OK causes the System Preferences to disappear and then come back, but that same error message is still there. How do I get rid of it so I can acess those panes? Thanks!

    Yep:
    Go to Applications folder
    Select System Preferences
    Enter Command I
Under General, deslect Open in 32-bit mode
Then try to acess what you were trying to earlier.
    Good luck!

  • ICloud Preference Pane, All iCloud Apps Crashing or Not Syncing

    Hey, everyone,
I have a Mid 2010 17" MBP with OS X 10.9.2 installed. In the last month or so, I have had consistent problems with many of my iCloud-related services.
    Symptoms:
    Notes crashes upon opening.
    Reminders does not sync.
Calendars says "Updating" for a long time before failing to sync.
Aperture crashes when trying to access photos in iCloud (Photo Stream, etc.).
    Contacts do not sync.
    Messages do not sync.
iCloud and Internet Accounts preference panes do not open, stays on "Loading iCloud..." and System Preferences becomes unresponsive (other preference panes work fine.)
Activity Monitor shows com.preferences.icloud.remoteservice is the culprit.
Here are the solutions that I have tried so far:
Restarting (fixes for a little while, but always breaks again)
    Disabling Keychain
    Deleting iCloud cache files
Searching for corrupted or partially downloaded iCloud files (in ~/Library/)
Resetting iCloud files through iCloud.com (fixes the problem for a little while, but always breaks again)
Reinstalling the OS and restoring from Time Machine
I also have an iPhone 5s and an iPad 2 that are syncing to my iCloud account.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Yep me too. Mail starts using a crazy amount of resources (hits 90% processor usage) now.
Also scrolling through anything in Mail is now very laggy. I run Mail in full screen mode and even bringing the menu bar into view takes a few seconds to happen.
I've also noticed that when iCloud prefs finally open and you try to turn Mail off or on, Mail itself freezes up.
Obviously something got messed up big time in the 10.7.2 and Mail 5.1 updates.

  • System preferences panes won't open in M.L.

I just installed Mountain Lion on two machines, apparently with success. With a MBP, and only in one account, I can't open selected panels in system preferences panes: notifications, desktop and screensaver, security and privacy, date and time, dictation and speech, time machine, and startup disk. This issue is specific to my account. I've another account on this same machine and the preferences panes open and work. I've already done the permissions repair, used Disk Utility in Recovery mode, repaired the hard drive disk, and reinstalled Mountain Lion, all to no effect. On my iMac, all works well. Does anyone have an idea of what to do next?

Right click on the System Preferences app in your Applications Folder. Select "get info" and make sure the 32 bit check box is NOT checked.
