ICloud prompts for @icloud address

OK. Newbie question ...
I cannot sync notes ... it is saying 'choose an iCloud email address' ...
and then has a drop down list with some dodgy looking suggestions ... non of which do I recognise.
I am using Mavericks ... and am in system preferences for iCloud ... an dit has allowed me to sync contacts, calendars and reminders without an iCloud email.
Is there an iCloud email that came with my iMac?
Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
iCloud comes with its own IMAP email service which gives you your own [email protected] address. You don't have to use this service and don't need to choose an email address if you don't use it.
However notes is part of the IMAP email service so you would have to create an [email protected] address in order to enable this service, however you still don't need to use it if you don't want.
All you need to do is create an address.

iCloud has my old Apple ID and is prompting for a password, but I want to put in the new id, I can't because it is grey and there is no edit option.  I'm prompted for a password to an account that doesn't exist.  Anyone know what I can do to fix this or why this is happening.?  I had no issue putting in my new Apple ID everywhere else, I could sign out of the old and inactive account and then sign back in using my new and proper one.  However, after the update to 7.3 it did a whole welcome to yr iPad and a set up thing and it went to set up iCloud and had my old Apple ID in grey where I can't change or edit it, it wants the password, when I put in the old password, it say yr Apple ID is incorrect but yet it won't let me change it??????? Anyone???

Sign out and back into your apple id from Settings>iTunes and App stores>(Your apple ID)>Sign Out and then sign in again with the new address. Close app store from running in the background (or restart the phone if your unsure how to do this). If when trying to update any apps they are still asking for the old apple ID, delete and re-install those apps.

  • Passwords prompted for random eMails upon iCloud back up? Bizarre.

My iPhone was stolen several weeks ago and I considered it long gone.  However, yesterday I received a call from someone who saw my name in the "Lost my iPhone" feature with my contact information.  The guy claimed he bought it from craigslist and didn't know it was stolen until he got home and that's when he contacted me.  I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my problem but I thought I should mention it.
Awesome! I got my iPhone 6 64GB back, which I am grateful for.  HOWEVER, I tried backing up my last iCloud (WiFi) backup and immediately after entering my iCloud account and password information I am prompted to enter a password for a random email/iCloud account.  I forgot exactly what the prompt asks for, I cannot replicate the issue for you guys (you'll see why).  It was something about apps purchased the with these accounts and I have to enter the password to recover the content.  Below the prompt there is a "Skip" button and I clicked this.  Immediately after that email another icloud account is prompted and again I clicked skip.  This happened another dozen times and I gave up. Some of the emails appeared randomly generated while others seemed legit and one name appeared multiple time in different variations. The bizarre part is when I was prompted for a password for the email "[email protected]" and I then considered these were just randomly selected/generated emails. So I instead reverted to an older iTunes backup on my desktop which worked just fine but was missing a lot of my newer content.
The next day (Today) I decided to try again and after several skips I called Apple support when the FBI prompt appeared.  The support agent had no idea what was going on, as usual, not competent and just following his flow chart while I try to solve the problem my self.  While he was "finding the solution" I kept hitting the skip button and after 40 emails my iPhone finally restored and I hung up on the guy.
Cool, I solved the problem. BUT while my iPhone was restoring, downloading all of the apps, my battery started to drain.  It was taking unusually long and when I tried to view my pictures they were all white.  It usually takes about 20 minutes to restore everything. My iPhone 6 soon died and I plugged it into the outlet.  When it turned back on with 4% I started reviewing all all of my snapchats and missed instagram notifications and it died again.  I thought this was strange but considered it was because it was downloading all of my content, even though this never happened before. When it turned back on with a decent charge I started using it, it died again.  This happened 4 times.  I eventually switched lightning cables but this wasn't the problem.  The 5th or 6th time the device died and never turned back on. When I push the sleep/wake button a drained battery appears with 3 blinking red lines AND the blinking lightning cable.  I let it charge for an hour and tried powering it on but the same screen appears.  I unplugged it and attempted to hard reset it but it just powers off only to power on with the same screen.  I decided to let it die and try charging it again but it's been over an THREE HOURS and it still has NOT died. Normally if this was the case it would die in under 5 minutes of my continually powering it on. But instead the same drained battery screen appears.  Oh yeah, I updated it to the latest operating system when I restored the iTunes back up.
    What is the problem???

    Hello Richard,
it sounds like you have a lot of space being taken up in your Sent folder but are unable to successfully delete them from your iOS device. You can also delete the emails from www.icloud.com as well, since deleting a huge number of emails can be difficult on an iPhone.
    iCloud: Delete email
    Delete messages
Select one or more messages, then do any of the following:
Click the Move to Trash button in the toolbar.
If you don’t see the Move to Trash button in the toolbar, choose Preferences from the Action pop-up menu , click General, then turn off “Show Archive icon in the toolbar.”
Press the Delete or Backspace key.
Drag messages to the Trash in the sidebar.
To select several adjacent messages, click the first one, then Shift-click the last one. To select multiple nonadjacent messages, Command-click them on a Mac or Control-click them on a Windows computer.
    Erase messages immediately and permanently
You can have iCloud Mail permanently and immediately erase messages when you delete them, instead of storing them in the Trash for 30 days.
Choose Preferences from the Action pop-up menu  in the sidebar.
In the General pane, deselect “Move deleted messages to,” then click Done.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Repeatedly Prompted for iCloud Password

I have an iPad mini with iOS 7.1.2 installed. It was new out of the box two weeks ago (warranty replacement for one that had a different problem). I didn't restore from any previous backup, but I did connect to my iCloud and iTunes accounts before re-downloading the apps I wanted and syncing with my iTunes library to add photos and other miscellany.
For the last several days I have been prompted two or three times a day to enter my iCloud password when I unlock the device. There is no discernible pattern, but so far I have not been prompted for it while using the device - only immediately upon unlocking. I have tried the following, based on suggestions in other forums: (1) delete and re-connect iCloud account; (2) delete iCloud account, power device off and on, re-connect iCloud account; (3) delete iCloud account; restore network settings; power device off and on; re-connect iCloud account. The problem persists. Today, for the first time, I received a notification while the device was locked alerting me that I needed to verify my iCloud password for iCloud backup.
The device otherwise operates normally, with one, one-time exception that I mention only in case it presents a pattern that I'm not experienced enough to see: yesterday, with cellular data off, I was connected to my home wifi and browsing with no problem. Without warning, the wifi connection dropped, or appeared to drop. I went into settings and verified that wifi was enabled, and that my home wifi network was selected. It was, and the settings panel showed a connection (but there was no wifi symbol in the status bar, and no actual connection). The wifi was working properly; both my phone and my laptop, within five feet of each other and the iPad, were experiencing no connectivity issues. Switching to airplane mode and back did not solve the problem, but powering off and on did, and it has not recurred.
I would appreciate any assistance. I have not yet made a Genius Bar appointment, as there is no guarantee that I could replicate the problem in-store (though I do have screencaps of some but not all of the prompts). Thanks very much.

  • I keep gettin sign in prompts for iCloud since I updated to Yosemite

I keep getting sign in prompts for iCloud since I updated to Yosemite.  I repeatedly get them for Face Time and iMessage also. Haven't found any way to stop them.  I click cancel on every one and then they show up again about 5 seconds later. I finally have been simply putting the window at the bottom of the screen.  What can I do to stop these password sign in request windows?

I'd love a solution to this, as well

Looking for bright ideas for moving address book from MacBookPro that can't be upgraded from OS 10.5.8 (big bummer!) to iCloud and iPad2

Have you tried exporting the contacts from address book on your mac to your desktop and importing them into the iCloud contact file using the import command from the menu when you select the gear icon.

  • How can I set up iCloud for my wife's computer and iPhone 4S when I previously set up an iCloud address for her and now can't use it in the iCloud set up?

I set up an iCloud address for my wife, evidently before running the iCloud set up and now I can't connect her to
an iCloud email address through the set up because it is already in use?

I did not articulate the problem properly.  I have the sign in for Birgit on Apple BUT I am unable to set up the
icloud.com email address for her because I had already established it before running the iCloud set up on her computer and now when I try to set up an iCloud email address for her through the iCloud application I can not do so because the email address is "already in use."  I have no idea how to meld the two.

Is there a way I can delete my primary @me email address so that I can receive emails only via my "reserved" @icloud address. eg. delete "msjones@me" and receive emails via "msjones@icloud" only. The reason being, I receive a fair bit of spam to my @me address. You can't delete the address, but you can set up a Rule to move messages to that address to the Trash or another folder. Go to http://icloud.com and go to the Mail page, click the cogwheel icon at top right and choose 'Rules'.
It's a bad idea to post your email address - it's an invitation to spam - even though in fact you haven't posted them in full; I've asked the hosts to remove them.

  • Keep my apple ID (gmail address)... CHANGE new icloud address?

I'm only starting a new discussion because everytime someone asks the same question I have, everyone starts providing answers to a DIFFERENT problem.
    The backstory:
I have a longstanding apple ID.  I like it; it has worked fine.  I have an iPhone 4S.  I was setting up iCloud on my son's iPhone 4S, when I noticed that "Notes" was an option for syncing with iCloud.  I thought:  that's nice, I'll turn that on for all of us, so our Notes can be saved to iCloud.
When I turned Notes on, a popup said that you could only sync Notes if you had a required icloud address, and it prompted me to create one.  I thought I was creating one for my son.  I added his name before the @icloud.com.
When I went to iCloud, it now says my apple ID is both my gmail address AND this icloud address I thought I was just creating for my son.  I want it gone, or changed.
    Here's what I have tried:
I went to "Manage my Apple ID" and removed the icloud address.  No dice.
I deleted iCloud from the devices and put it back on.  No go.
    I would like a simple: yes/no answer:
Is it possible to change ONLY the icloud address associated with my (gmail) apple ID?

No.  However, you could just not use it and create another more to your liking.

  • I want to use my .me email address not the new .iCloud address I've just been issued

I am now in the situation where I have different iCloud email address on my iOS devices. My iPhone has a .me address my iPad has the iCloud address and I can see no way to change either.
I would like to use the .me address to send emails as this is the one everyone knows. Please help

There isn't a phone number for iTunes Support.
If you mean that the address is your rescue email address then follow the steps half-way down this page for changing it http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312 :
Navigate to appleid.apple.com using your web browser.
    Click "Manage your account"
When prompted, sign in using your Apple ID and password.
    Click Password & Security
You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
After you've validated your identity by correctly answering your security questions, click Edit to the right of your rescue email address.
Once you've finished editing your rescue email address, click the Save button directly below the email field.
You can then try using it as your primary email address on your account (you may need to log out and back in after removing it as your rescue email address).

  • HT204053 change icloud address on iPhone

how do i change the icloud address on my 4s? the itunes has my address and the icloud has my wifes address.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if running iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.

  • Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him mine. Want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address.

Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him my 4s. We want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address on 4s iPhone. Also, when I tried to change iMessage I got a message that if I deleted my id (which seemed to be the only way to get my husband's I'd there), I would not be able to receive iMessages on any device.
Would someone kindly tell me how to set up th 4s for my husband so that we can keep our info separate? It would be most appreciated! Thanks!!

    Hey Fagen!
You will want to see the following article for guidance on achieving the result you wish to achieve:
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661
I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,
    Braden

  • I share an icloud address but want a second one

I have had a [email protected] address for many years that I shared with my wife and kids. She uses her calendar on it for syncing and we all keep our music on it in a common library.
Is it possible for me to get a separate iCloud address so that I have have my own calendar, contact and notes that I can sync to my iPhone and iPad while keeping my original one on the family computer that we keep our song library on?
I cannot figure out how to do it.

You can create/add new (secondary) iCloud accounts at settings > mail, contacts, calendars (or system preferences > mail, contacts & calendars on the Mac)

Is it possible to download iOS  5 from one iMac on two ipads and not get them totally wiped of apps and stuff. We have an iPad each and a communal email address and an iCloud address each. One iPad now is totally screwed up.

    Thank you for your reply.
I am somewhat new to iOS and OS having grown up with DOS and Windows. I am not familiar with IMAP and iCloud and I am not even sure which types of servers my various emails use.
The problem I would anticipate with iCloud is that (I assume) it would limit my access to data (including mail) on the iCloud to when I happen to be logged onto the internet. I also assume(?) that large files (photos etc.) would require some time to download whenever I wish to access them from whichever device I happen to be using (I hope I am wrong about this).
I have kept my devices to 500gb - 1TB for OS and 32gb - 128gb for iOS but since I have pretty slow WiFi (shared with DirecTV Whole Home and Netflix streaming) it is my impression that iCloud might be quite limited due to data transfer times.
Perhaps a factor would be that I have 2 DSL lines and my main DSL line is connected to two wireless routers (to also provide WiFi in a metal building that blocks WiFi and Cellular signals)
I may be totally wrong in my assumptions regarding iCloud. My mail is not so urgent that I need access to it instantly and I could wait until I had internet access or I can get it on my iPhone. My main concern with iCloud would be my data files (Word, Pages, Excel, Numbers etc.).
On the other hand, if I wanted to keep my 10,000 emails that would take up a lot of iCloud memory and I don't know how to measure how much storage it would take or how to move Hotmail or even iCloud mail to iCloud.
It may take me some time to figure this out.

  • I am changing ISPs and will be dropping two email addresses I use as AppleID's.  Can I keep them as AppleID's and use a rescue e-mail address from a new ISP?  What are the downsides if I have an iCloud address as an alias under one of those addresses?

I am about to change internet service providers and will be dropping two e-mail addresses that I use as Apple ID’s.  One is used solely for iTunes and the other is used for iCloud, mail, calendars, etc.  The second has two iCloud email address as aliases.  I will be going to a new ISP and will establish an e-mail address from that ISP as a backup in case the iCloud addresses are not available.
It has been suggested to me that I should continue to use the e-mail addresses from the old ISP as my Apple ID’s.  And that I use the e-mail address from the new ISP as a rescue e-mail address for those Apple ID’s to get any communications relating to the ID’s. That seems like a simple and straight-forward way of handling the change and would minimize the chance of complications from changing the Apple ID’s.  But, are there any downsides to handling the change in this way?  If so, what are they?

You can continue to use them as Apple ID's, change the rescue address (as you know)
You can use your iCloud address, but it won't be an alias, it's a full email address.
